Nix Murguia is a dark contemporary romance author. She resides in Boise, Idaho with her husband and three sons. As a young Chicana growing up in the 90s her grandfather introduced her to various movies that would help her connect with her culture and embrace her identity.
It was in the 1987 movie La Bamba that Nix realized the bad boy was much more attractive. The Bobs, the Miklos, and Chuchos. Her love for the anti-hero, morally grey alpha male bled into the books she read.
She uses her love for story telling and writing to create diverse characters that Latina women can relate to and love. Morally grey men that say “Mija.” And “Te quiero.” And the strong women who would be their only weakness.

Nix does it again, we love an author that gives our culture representation 🖤
This book had so many relatable moments between the women’s characters, real fears of not finding our purpose, and empowering ourselves, the banter we get from our culture and the family dynamics were so real😭

Thalia was trapped in a cage trying to find her purpose and seven years later that purpose comes back to haunt her.

I loved Punished but I have to say Thalia & Silas are my babies!!
The drama, tension, secrets and the chemistry between these two were 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨
The breadcrumbs left in Punished were nothing compared to the bombs dropped in Trapped.
I got telenova vibes from the suspense, the phrases and sayings and especially the tóxico himself. Mr. Silas Macias 😈

This one part in particular made me feel the words

“We’ve done nothing but fail her.”
We saw her strength and we took advantage of it. We over estimated how much she could take on. She was hurting and instead of asking her what was wrong we made her feel as if running away was her only option.

“Trapped” is a rollercoaster of a sequel in the Calavera Hotels series, diving into the wild world of Don Vicente Consuelo's grandkids! Meet Thalia, a no-nonsense leader who isn’t shy about packing heat while wrestling with her past choices. But wait—there’s a creepy clown-mask-wearing stalker lurking in the corners, making her life a real-life horror show!

Enter Silas Macias. 🥵 This guy leaves quite the impression on Thalia! Did he really go and kidnap her and fake her death? Oh yes, he did! But don’t worry—he also knows how to woo her with gifts that match her deliciously dark vibe, treating her like a five-star meal. Silas’s loyalty to his wife is a love story that could weather any storm!

I’M SO OBSESSED with Silas and Thalia, I’ll never get over this book😫

Thalia is this gun-wielding bad b!tch who can handle her own, and you better not get in her way either. She made some decisions in her life that ended up hurting her in the long run, and she’s still trying to seek peace. Little does she know, she has this stalker in a clown mask who her mind and body becomes obsessed with. Can we really blame her? NOPE, because Silas had me panting the entire time lol🤭

After all those years, the feelings were still strong and I loved how he was there in the shadows when she needed them. The spice was OFF THE CHAIN lol, do we still use that phrase?🤣

Rival families/Arranged marriage

What starts out as an arranged marriage to forge a dream alliance between two notorious families, quickly turns into a nightmare when every back is stabbed and no one seems trustworthy. As the dust settles our FMC is forced to emerge as the devil herself, while our mmc becomes nothing more than her ghost. But as time goes on the true enemies are revealed and everything that was set into motion long ago will finally come to end- or maybe a new beginning?

Ahhhhhh this book was so fun. It’s clever and funny and so spicy. I cried and laughed and blushed multiple times. A super fun read and part of an interconnected stand alone series.

C@rtel x arranged marriage x bad a$$ fmc x gothic vibes x touch her and 💀x 🔫 play. Por favor, Check those triggers 😏

OH LORDY!
Thalia and Silas are a match made in heaven. From page one I was HOOKED onto their story. Arranged marriages aren't my favorite but I love when they aren't what the MCs were expecting. Thalia's situation was gut wrenching and overwhelming I would've smoked a lot more weed to get through it, honestly.
Nix's writing is so captivating and expressive. You read one word and before you know it, you've read seventy-thousand (literally). I gasped, cried, and laughed throughout their story, making it an automatic 5-star read for me.
If Thalia and Silas were to ever get their own series, I'd devour it whole. In fact, I hope that if I manifest hard enough, Queen Nix will give Thalia and Silas another book, bonus scene, something, anything!!!

frustrating (contains spoilers)

The story was interesting, however there were too many gaps preventing it to make complete sense. The book kept alluding to what happened to Silas family but I still don’t know exactly what happened. How did Thalia’s dad set them up? How did Silas end up in prison? What exactly did Thalia do for the cartel for 7 years? As for Silas how did he rebuild? What do they both do now?

Thalia and Silas are both so scary and so hot and together they're phenomenal!

I loved seeing more of Thalia and her vulnerability. But I especially love that she never lost her edge.

Silas was not what I was expecting - he was even better!

The drama, the twists, the surprises, it all made for a fantastic story and I can't wait for the next book!

Usually, as a masc lesbian, I’m not particularly interested in books like this. However, this book included the cartel, sex, and violence. This book gripped me from start to finish—a book I recommend to all toxicas out there.

As someone who devoured "Punished", I was eagerly awaiting "Trapped", the next chapter in the intense Calavera Hotels series, and it did not disappoint. If you thought the drama and high-stakes tension in "Punished" were wild, "Trapped" takes it to a whole new level. The Consuelo family’s dark, cartel-fueled legacy looms large again, but this time, the focus shifts to another member of the family caught in the tangled web of betrayal, love, and vengeance.

After the whirlwind that was Adrian’s quest for revenge in "Punished", "Trapped" picks up with a new storyline that’s just as gripping and unpredictable. This time, we follow the journey of a woman who, like Mireya from the first book, is thrown into a world of arranged marriages, dangerous secrets, and a love that’s far more complicated than it appears. The emotional scars she bears, believing her husband to be dead, echo the kind of emotional trauma we saw in Adrian’s quest for revenge—but with an added layer of mystery and suspense. Just when you think she’s free from her past, a masked man steps into her life, throwing everything into chaos.

What I love about Nix Murguia’s writing is how she doesn’t just build tension around violence and suspense—though there’s plenty of that—but she also crafts deeply emotional, messy relationships that make you care about the characters, even when they’re doing things that are morally questionable. This balance of heart and grit is what made "Punished" so compelling and what makes "Trapped" a worthy follow-up. The stakes are incredibly high, and just like Adrian had to wrestle with whether to forgive or punish Mireya, the protagonist in "Trapped" faces similarly gut-wrenching decisions about trust and survival.

The appearance of the clown-masked man adds an extra layer of suspense that keeps you guessing, and I found myself flipping through the pages, desperate to know if he’s there to help or hurt her. Murguia knows how to weave a thriller, with just the right amount of dark romance, and fans of "Punished" will appreciate how "Trapped" keeps that same tense, dangerous atmosphere while exploring new emotional territory.

Overall, "Trapped" deepens the world of the Consuelo family with more twists, more danger, and more intense emotions. The family legacy may have been built on crime and power, but it’s the complex, flawed characters who keep me hooked. If you enjoyed the raw intensity of "Punished", you’re in for a wild ride with "Trapped". It’s dark, emotional, and just as addicting as the first book. Can’t wait to see where Murguia takes this series next!

Trapped is a cartel romance that draws you into the dark and perilous world of Thalia and Silas. It's twists and turns will surprise you. The drama and emotions will grab a hold of you. It's a compelling book packed with humor, heat and heart.

I was fascinated by Thalia since I read the first book. I wanted to know more about the bold, witchy and bad@ss woman who wore black. And I was not disappointed. Thalia was a force of nature. I loved her. I was drawn to her strength, her darkness, her k!nky side, her humor and her soft side. Silas's morally grey and OTT self was fun to read about. His sweetness and depravity was sexy.

The romance was dark and sexy. I enjoyed their spicy and depraved scenes. And I liked their banter. They made such a bad@ss couple. I rooted for their happiness and future together.

I loved Trapped. The story was exciting and entertaining. Thalia and Silas were fun and fascinating characters. I really enjoyed reading this book.

This was an ARC read and review. I'm grateful to the author and Unalive Promotions for the opportunity to read this book.

Thalia & Silas 💥💥
I loveeee anytime I get to read about Latin families & especially the cartel, because you know the story is about to be about a bunch of bad asses.
Thalia is queeeeen!! La bruja, she is the kinda female you don't want to mess with in the cartel. She will eat you up & spit you out, but before she came to be the force she is she experienced some traumatic events in her life.. one being set up in an arranged marriage by her horrible father. The day before her wedding she met a young man named Silas at the gym, they talked.. they worked out together & she assumed that would be the last time she ever saw him.
On her wedding day, the grooms mother asked Thalia if she'd like to meet her new to be husband ( this is rare because in the cartel & arranged marriages you don't see your husband to be until you're walking down the aisle )
So in comes Silas looking as sharp as ever & Thalia is momentarily speechless that the man she has to marry is the same man she wanted to see more of the previous night.
The two spend a wonderful night together she loses her virginity to her husband that night. She's actually happy with her arranged marriage, until her father plans the sickest plan to execute her new husband. Silas died the day after their wedding.. & Thalias father who was not just verbally abusive but physically as well to her also died shortly after.
7 years go by & Thalia becomes the bad ass women she is. Forever holding on to a love she remembers even as short as it was. Thalia holds a lot of secrets... but so does Silas... seeing how he's been hiding in the shadows for the last 7 years.. ALIVE.
This story takes you on a roller coaster but I was here for it. Hang on tight. Silas & Thalias love is unmatched.

Wow. I have no words for this book. I was captivated by it from the beginning. I felt every emotion and the twist that kept happening I was not expecting. The FMC is such a fucking badass I absolutely love her so much😩 She plays by her rules and doesn’t let anybody control her. She’s the life of the party in her family and the shit she would say had me laughing so hard 😭 She carries the weight of wanting to protect her family and do right by them and I feel that to the core. The MMC in this book was a bit unhinged but I love unhinged men 😭 He also had a filthy mouth had me giggling and kicking my feet. He wasn’t one to believe in letting her go and knew what he wanted and would obtain it anyway he can. Their relationship was so cute I love a push and pull dynamic. This man studied her to learn her interest and to also know her dark fantasies 🤭 Los dos son locos el Diablo y la diabla con un angelito.

This was a mafia romance that truly showed Mexican representation perfectly. Nix you did so fucking well with it. I loved that she was from Jalisco ( my family is from there ) the snippets of it showing through the book made me fall even more in love with it.

Please my loves this book is so good read it if you’re in a mafia mood with some unhinged MC’s 😉

*this is a dark romance please read trigger warnings. 18+.*

“If you ever try to run away from me again, I will kill you, then fuck your corpse, before I dig your grave right here."

💖 Silas & Thalia 💖

I may have thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the Calavera Hotel series, but this second installment? Absolutely phenomenal. 5/5 stars, zero critiques. Not only did I fall hard for the main couple, but all the side characters are just as endearing. The plot was fresh, engaging, and full of unexpected twists that kept me on edge the whole time. And let’s talk about the spice—off-the-charts hot. I savored every sizzling, tension-filled moment.

But really, I just can't help but love a fierce, badass FMC. Thalia radiated gothic cartel queen energy in every scene. Strong, fearless, and ready to take on anything unless someone she loves was at risk—in which we got to see some vulnerability, adding layers to her character. And Silas definitely book boyfriend material. Was he intense and dangerously possessive? Absolutely. Did he go so far as to gift her body parts of the man who touched her? Yeah, that happened. But he also said grace before eating that woman like a gourmet meal and he showered her with gifts perfectly tailored to her dark, moody aesthetic. Together, they were the ultimate emo/goth power couple. Violent, unhinged, yet somehow perfect for each other, I was completely obsessed with every moment of their twisted, wild relationship.

If you're into dark, twisted romances with morally grey characters, off-the-wall chemistry, and a plot that keeps you guessing, this book is a must-read. The Calavera Hotel series has seriously leveled up with this one, and I can’t wait to dive into Ariella's story next.

Trapped the second book in the Calavera Hotels Series follows Thalia the independent, strong, take not nonsense from anyone FMC. Thalia has had to make choices in her life and has secrets that she has had to keep in order to keep people she loves safe. Someone has figured out what she is hiding causing Thalia to be concerned but she refuses to show fear. Her family tries to keep her safe that is until the husband she thinks she lost when she was younger shows up. Silas refuses to let Thalia out of his sight or anyone near her despite what Thalia says. Thalia will have to deal with her past but telling Silas about the secret she has been keeping could be the next toughest thing she will ever have to do.

This book had me the moment I knew this was going to be Thalias story and I was not disappointed. Action, mystery, suspense, with so many twists and turns I devoured this book. Silas, Silas, Silas!!!! The spice, his mouth... FANTASTIC!!!!! The perfect match to Thalias feisty princess vibe.

This is one book you will want to read and if you have not read the first book of this series, I suggest that book as well. I do recommend reading all tropes and triggers.

Thank you, Nix Murguia, for the ARC and congratulations on another fantastic book! I can't wait to read Ariella's story. 🖤

Where do I start... Thalia is the definition of the Queen B. She is a strong and don't f-with me, Latina. I love when the author makes the FMC truly strong and independent, not a victim, and annoying.
Thalia had to go through heart ache that no woman would ever want and become a bad a$$ B. Silas, he is the definition of yes daddy.
Silas and Thalia's attraction for each other started before they even knew they were to be married through an arranged marriage. However, Thalia's father had alternative plans after the wedding.
Fast forward 7 years, and the years and heart aches created the Thalia that some grew to love, but most grew to fear.
Thalia being stalked by a masked man, not knowing when caught by him, will be her undoing. Silas obsession for his wife never faded, and their love was a true example that no matter what, true love will survive. Both Silas and Thalia united are dangerous, and when the threat of hurting the ones they love comes knocking, they prove how deadly they can be.
Secrets, threats, danger, f-around and find out, and obsession makes Trapped the must Dark Mafia read you need in your life. Dang Nix Murguia, you left me speechless and now waiting patiently for Ariella and Nero's story.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+++ and Silas can make you fall to your knees 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶++++.

Trapped
This second book of the Calavera Hotels Series was an exciting rollercoaster of emotions for me. I loved everything about it. The character growth of many characters from the first and this book was beautiful to read. The banter with Thalia and Silas was so much fun. Their energy and personalities are a mix of the Joker/Harley and Mr. & Mrs. Smith but darker. It was full of adrenaline and heart. The Spice level was three times higher than the first book in the series. I had to take breaks a few times to relax lol. So many twists and turns. Truth bombs everywhere. At times the characters were raw with their emotions and when they shared deep meaningful things I was so moved that I physically cried. Never has a book moved me so much. I have cried, laughed, gasped, was scared with anxiety, and was turned on by things that have never crossed my mind that could turn me on. lol By the end of the story I wanted more. I wished it never ended. Nix has a way of storytelling that gets you connecting with each character so much that you feel a part of that character's life. Like they are real or your friend. I felt like I was watching the story unfold in real-time right in front of me. Her stories have given me life and I can't wait for the rest of the series to be released.

I’m OBSESSED. This isn’t just spicy — it’s emotional, gritty, and unforgettable.

HOLY. FUCKING. SMOKE. 🔥
Silas? Dark Prince, emotionally wrecked and deliciously dangerous. Thalia? CHINGONA GODDESS. I worship every move she made — strong, fearless, fierce, and unapologetically badass. She owned every page like she was born for it. Their chemistry? Straight fire. The tension, the grit, the emotion, the twisted romance — Nix Murguia did not hold back!

This book devoured me. I didn’t just read Trapped, I lived it. I felt every scar, every whisper, every stare between Silas and Thalia. The story is gritty, raw, and absolutely unforgettable.

AND THAT WORLD? The Calavera Hotels universe is like nothing else — rich, dark, sexy, and so dangerously addictive. I’m obsessed with all the characters and the intricate ties between them. Every book just gets better and deeper.

💌 Dear Nix Murguia:
PLEASE — I am begging — DO NOT stop this series. I need more. I need all of it. Give me every twisted soul, every love story, every broken badass character in the Calavera world. This isn’t just a book — this is a whole damn obsession. Keep it going, por favor, because I’m hooked for life. 🙌🏽🖤

Like a defibrillator, this book gave me life. It cleared my skin, paid my taxes, and saved my cousin from a burning house.

All hyperbole aside, Nix wrote a fantastic book. Trapped follows Thalia and Silas, two souls bound for an eternity of love—but this love doesn't come easy. Two children of Don's bound in marriage but their lives take a turn for the worse when the families face a betrayal like no other...and baby, this is where it gets crazy. There are twists and turns and heavy secrets that could change their whole lives. Every scene with these two had me on the floor, whether it be saturated in tears, picking my jaw off the floor, or on my knees for two of the hottest characters I've read yet.

From the beautiful showcase of Chicano culture, family, and loyalty to the amazing character developments to storywriting was on point; even the side characters were multi-dimensional and cool asf. Nix did an amazing job balancing the alluring darkness of a cartel romance while presenting a beautiful, cosmic connection. 10 out of 10 recommend to everyone—I ask everyone to please heed triggers as this story grapples with heavy content and topics.

This one did not disappoint!!!

The story takes place in Houston where our FMC, Thalia, running the cartel with the Consuelo, who was forced into marriage and a secret from the marriage. Now years have passed, it seems it is now catching up to her. Our MMC, Silas, whose eyes set on Thalia is out for revenge and won’t stop until he collects what is due and possesses her.

The dark cartel romance vibes mixed with the spice, was everything and left me wanting more!

I couldn’t get enough for Thalia and Silas’s story, and was so invested in them till the very end. The plot twists definitely left me very surprised which I think was a great element to add.

This is definitely a must read, and I can’t wait to read more in the series.

Recommend reading, Punished, book 1 in the Calavera Hotel series and the trigger warnings as it pertains mature content in the story.

I have waited what feels like for this book, and holy smokes did Nix deliver!

This is book two in the Calavera Hotels series, and while it is technically a standalone, I 100% recommend for you to read book one, Punished, first.

Thalia comes from a very successful, hotel running, cartel. She is forced into in arranged marriage at 17 to Silas, so their families can make peace. Well, let's just say all doesn't go as planned after the wedding night, and Thalia spends 7 years believing Silas is gone for good. But is he?

Nix definitely delivers some twists and turns in this amazing, spicy, cartel romance. Just like Punished, its hot, it will have you questioning your morals maybe just a bit. I honestly cannot express how much I loved this book. Thank you to Nix for giving me the opportunity to share my love for your work❤️‍🔥

💍 Nix, I’m not sure what you put in this book but my oh my I couldn’t get enough.

💍 Thalia & Silas made me question everything! From their bickering and physical attraction to the love that was obviously still there…I loved it all. I loved the gothic style and the nod to Harley Quinn. Thalia is literally a badass and I absolutely love that woman. Silas? Ahhhh I’ll bow down for him any day. The ending was perfection. I can’t wait to read more of this series.

Nix, you know I adore you so much. From our crazy group chats to just you as a person, you are simply amazing. I can’t thank you enough for letting me be apart of this journey and I can’t wait to read more of your fabulous work!

This book hooked me immediately and I read it within 24 hours. There were definitely a roller coaster of emotions. I didn’t expect it to make me cry as much as I actually did, but it was also very hot.

I really loved Talia and Silas separately and together. They both went through some shit but didn’t let it deter them from getting what they want out of life. I really love how the story started from the beginning and then did a time jump, but gave us flashbacks throughout to that missing time. Talia grew up before she had to and became a very strong independent woman but she also knew when it was time to submit. If you know, you know. I love that she did not immediately give in to Silas but made him work for her love and trust. They were both hurt at different points in the book, understandably, but still forgave each other.

I love how possessive Silas was of his wife and how often he used the words, my wife. It took them both a while to realize they love each other, but you can tell that they did from the time they met. Now the spice in this book was very very hot. It was explicit and kinky, and every scene was different. I feel like half the book was spice and the other half was plot. This was the second book in a series so there were parts of the story that seemed like continuations, but I didn’t feel like I was missing anything crucial.

This is the second book in this impressive series, and can be read as a standalone, but I would advise reading “Punished” first.
This is Silas and Thalia’s journey.
Thalia entered into an arranged marriage with Silas for cartel alliances, but it was love at first sight. When tragedy strikes Thalia believes that Silas is dead, and she has been grieving for the past 7-years, but is he actually dead?
Be aware of the trigger warning due to the sensitive content!
This is a well written story which is an action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family, dynamics, arranged marriage, loss, grief, twists and turns, secrets, intrigue, suspense, drama, deceit, tension, revelations, palpable chemistry, morally grey, and love, which leads to an entertaining, unpredictable, and thrilling addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the story of Silas and Thalia. Talk about one bad butt female. She is a woman that you do not want to mess with. She can hold her own against anyone. However, she is a girl paying for some decisions she has made in life. While she is seeking some peace and solace she has a stalker that she knows nothing about. He wears a clown mask and soon has her pining for him. Make now mistake the world they are in is very dangerous and includes arranged marriages, secrets that are dangerous to even whisper, and love, well love is a very complicated thing adding all the other things one top of it. There are twist and turns in this book that might cause you to gasp out loud. This book is very dark so you will want to check your trigger warnings. I loved every second of it and could not put the book down. I was hooked on Silas and Thalia. You do not want to miss this book.

The tension, the drama, and of course the chemistry between these two characters was amazing! So many twists and turns through this book that had me shook!!
If you like spicy, dark, cartel books with a bad ass FMC and morally grey possessive MMC, this book is for you!!!!
Ugh I cannot wait for book three!!!!!

If you’re wanting to read this book, I highly suggest you read Punished first 😘

Nix does it again with this one! I am obsessed with this series and I cannot wait for more!! I love all the little twists, me quedé con la boca abierta every time!! And the action scenes had my heart racing, I just could not put this down.
Y obvio Silas is mi new novio, he is such a dream🫠 and HOLY SHIT that gun scene and blood play scene🥵💦

I love all the little reference too (𝗃𝗎𝗌𝗍 𝗅𝗂𝗄𝖾 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝗅𝖺𝗌𝗍 𝖻𝗈𝗈𝗄) of things I love: Selena Quintanilla, Harley Quinn, Little Mermaid, Thalia’s style everything black and goth🖤
Such a lovely beautiful ending to their family, made me so happy but the anniversary gift😳(𝗂𝖿𝗒𝗄𝗒) was just perfection😈👌🏽
