Diamonds in the Rough

Rate this book
Diamonds in the Rough is an opposites attract, single dad, insta-family romance featuring a rancher cowboy and a New York City manny looking for a summer job.

When Asher Allen heads west to become the nanny to a family in New Mexico for the summer, he’s expecting three kids who’ve lost their parents. He’s expecting to have to step in and save the day so their uncle, the cowboy who took them in, can get back to work on the family ranch. What he doesn’t expect is to fall so hard for New Mexico. And for his new boss.

Sebastian Martindale is about to give up and make a run for it when Ash arrives. His niece hates him, he never gets enough sleep, and he can’t juggle three small kids and the mountain of work that needs to get done. Despite his total exhaustion he’s skeptical when his mom hires a nanny, but once Ash shows up, Bastian isn’t sure how he’d managed without the man.

Together, Bastian and Ash have to navigate the children's grief, the first day of school, helping the kids understand they have a home right where they are, and falling for each other at the same time. Can they work it all out and polish up the diamonds in the rough they find?

JODI spent too many years in New York and San Francisco stage managing classical plays, edgy fringe work, and the occasional musical. She, therefore, is overdramatic, takes herself way too seriously, and has been known to randomly break out in song. Her men are imperfect but genuine, stubborn but likable, often kinky, and frequently their own worst enemies. They are characters you can’t help but fall in love with while they stumble along the path to their happily ever after.

For those looking to get on her good side, Jodi’s addictions include nonfat lattes, Malbec and tequila however you pour it. She’s also obsessed with Shakespeare and Broadway musicals. She can be found wearing sock monkey gloves while typing when it’s cold, and on the beach enjoying the sun and the ocean when it’s hot. When she’s not writing and/or vacuuming sand out of her laptop, Jodi mentors queer youth and will drop everything for live music. Jodi lives near New York City with her beautiful wife, and together they are mothers of dragons (cleverly disguised as children) and slaves to an enormous polydactyl cat.

- single 'dad' (uncle) + nanny
- cowboy
- opposites attract

After an accident takes the life of his estranged older brother and his wife, Bastian finds himself the guardian of his three niblings. Way in over his head, Bastian isn't sure how he's supposed to balance work and parenthood, especially with his niece who seems to hate his guts.

In swoops Asher, the live in nanny hired by his mother, who wrangles the children and Bastian with ease. As the pair grow closer and navigate the children's grief and all the hiccups that come along the way, Bastian and Ash find themselves falling for each other.

I'll be quite honest, I was more invested in the family as a whole than Bastian and Ash's romance. I didn't really feel a romantic connection between them, and felt like their relationship, once started, went from 0 to 100 reeeeaaalll fast. Other than that though, I thought their story was sweet, but definitely cared more about the kids and their new family dynamic than anything else.

This was so beautifully done. I love that it was a slow burn. After all the trauma the family had been through, Bastian and Ash were focused on those sweet babies first and foremost. Their pace fit the story and situations perfectly. I have to admit I got real hungry while reading this. I wish Anna could come and cook for me lol. I do hope we see more of this beautiful family because I do think they have more to show us.

Bastian is in over his head. He's the guardian to his older brother's children, three year old twins, Will and Walt and eight year old Samantha, after their parent's death in a car accident. The twins are terrors and he's sure his niece hates him. Asher is a professional nanny from New York city. His first sight of the family is a gorgeous Bastian chasing a naked twin while carrying the other. Ash takes charge, saving bath time.
A great start. Bastian and Ash dance around their attraction for a few chapters. When they come together, they have great chemistry. Nice and steamy. Bastian is a fierce defender of his kids, and it makes Ash fall harder for him. His support when Bastian flounders and doubts himself is genuine and sweet.
There's nothing comparable to a a BA Tortuga and Jodi Payne cowboy book. All the good feels. There's always children, dogs, horses and Tex-Mex food. There's off page parental death. And on page family grief. And most important, these found families all get their HEAs.
A quick read. Just a bit of angst. Lots of supporting characters, birth and found family. And lots of love.
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.

3.5 maybe. No angst to speak of, but a guy's mother hires a nanny to help him care for his dead brother's kids on his ranch. Asher's never been on a ranch but is an experienced nanny. Turns out of course Sebastian is a gay cowboy. My only thought was "how old is Asher?" It's never revealed but he worked for something like 12 years with his previous family so he's well into his 30s. Not that it's relevant. I appreciated that the kids weren't perfect little angels and that the older girl had issues given her parents died and she's swept up and moved to another state. So it was fine, but I'm not a huge fan of books with kids but as I noted, they were at least not perfect little humans, they were kids.

3.75/5 This is a sweet, low-angst story with a single cowboy finding his life turned upside down when he becomes the guardian for his two nephews and niece. Enter the nanny from New York, and there’s a lot of figuring out how to make this new life work. The only source of occasional angst is Sammy, as she navigates her way through the grief of losing her parents. She mostly felt a bit older than 8 to me (but I’m not great with kid ages, and she also had what seemed like realistic meltdowns, etc., periodically). Walt and Will were wild (lol), and I think they’ll have lots of fun on a ranch (and probably be solely responsible for Bastian and Ash’s grey hairs, but also be responsible for their excellent cardio health).

The romance happens pretty quick, but it seemed plausible to me in the pressure cooker of this ready-built family that they’re both living with and taking care of. (It’s Bastian’s Mom who hired Ash, not Bastian, so while this doesn’t totally eliminate a power imbalance, you really don’t see any evidence of that dynamic between Bastian and Ash.) Given the situation, I liked how much focus there was on the kids, with the romance happening mostly after hours and in quiet stolen moments.

I came into this book as a stand-alone, and I thought it held up very well on its own.

I received an ARC from GRR. This is my honest review.

Another fun East meets West story by the dynamic duo of Tortuga and Payne. The Manny strikes again! When Tio (uncle) gets custody, what's a man to do... but have his momma call for help!

Ash is the professional nanny who comes in to help Bastian with parenting his niece and nephews.
The children lost their parents and especially the oldest struggle hard. This part of the book is good, and you see Ash and Bastian navigating the ups and downs with how to deal with the grieving girl. The twins have it easier, and the fun and struggle with 3 year olds are well described.
The book is very sweet and an easy read. The relationship between the MCs is what I'd call a belated instalove - once they realize they are both gay is it full speed ahead. Their love story develops together with the development of molding a family together, so the book is relatively low spice, but that fits the book well.

Diamonds in the Rough by Jody Payne and BA Tortuga is the 3rd book in their On the Ranch series. It is the sweet story of a cowboy who gets in over his head when he suddenly inherits 3 young children and the manny from New Jersey who comes to help him out and as time goes on they fall in love. Sebastian Martindale is running his family’s ranch, the Diamond M Ranch, in New Mexico when he learns that his brother and wife, who he hasn’t had much contact with, have died in an accident. Without another thought he brings their 3 children, Samantha who is 8 and twins Will and Walt who are 3, to live with him. He is way out of his league, especially since Sammy is fighting him every step of the way because of her grief, and the twins are a big handful. He has just about come to the end of his rope when his mother steps in and hires a nanny. Asher Allen had just finished a long-term assignment with a family on the east coast and accepts the job because it is only for 3 months and he can use the time to decide what he wants to do next. He has no idea about what ranch life entails but he is willing to learn and help out these children. When he arrives, he finds chaos and immediately steps in to help. Bastian is grateful for the help as he has no idea what to do and he learns a lot about children and how to deal with them in positive ways from Ash. Will and Walt are too young to remember much about their parents but Sammy is really suffering. She misses everything about her old life and is scared about what is to come with starting school and not knowing anyone and she also has nightmares. She says she hates Tio Bastian but deep down he knows this is part of her grief and luckily Ash is there to help with it. As time goes on they set up a playroom for the kids, go to town to buy school supplies, eat out and get to know each other, and enjoy life on the ranch. Ash starts to learn everything that is involved and also starts to ride a horse. Along the way they both find out they like men and their close contact leads to a kiss and then lots more with some steamy love scenes. Ash is sad that his contract is only for 3 months but Bastian knows he really likes him and thinks it could lead to more so he wants to extend it. Ash is thrilled and as time goes on they fall in love and he finally feels he is part of the family and not just a nanny. I really enjoyed this story. I like how the children are an integral part in it as much as the love story between the two men. Ash is such a nice guy and knows what to do with the children so he is a big help in calming Bastian and showing him how to deal with them in positive ways. Bastian is a true cowboy and knows how to run the ranch and is at a big loss as to what to do with the kids, but he loves them deeply. He is also steadfast in his love for Ash. You really feel for what Sammy is going through and are happy when she makes progress and the twins are a hoot with their antics. The ranch hands and Bastian’s parents also play a big part in the story. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like stories with cowboys who get kids unexpectedly and don’t know how to deal with them until a manny shows up and loves them all.

This was a really sweet story about a cowboy, so out of his depth as the new guardian of his young niece and nephews after the death of their parents, and the new manny who saves his sanity and life. The first thing the new manny sees is a naked three year old racing across the balcony with a screaming man, another naked toddler in one arm, chasing madly after him. Thus sets up the adorable chaos of life with these two rambunctious twins keeping two grown men constantly on their toes, while also trying to help a devastated 8 year old girl who just wants her parents and home back. It is a poignant story, one with laughter, tears, frustrations, highs and lows, and always something going on. The twins bring smiles and laughter, Sammy the niece brings out sympathy and empathy, making me want to reach into the pages to give her a hug, and the attraction between Bastion and Ash helps to create a caring and comforting environment for the children while developing a bond to create a stable, lasting, loving family. It is a book that makes you feel good as you read, and I think whenever I hear children squealing “puppies, puppies”, I will think of the twins, Walt and Will.

I adore the characters these two authors create together, and this book doesn’t disappoint. Bastion and Ash together are just the type of people to be ideal to end up in this situation, wanting nothing more than to create a loving home where the children can thrive, and they are better together. Sammy finds the understanding and acceptance she needs as she processes her loss, with Ash as an insightful person to help Bastian and Sammy develop a bond, and the twins bring enough chaos in their wake to keep too much grief at bay. I would love to see more to know how those two little guys, especially, grow up in this loving environment, and to see where Sammy’s intelligence and drive takes her. This is an entertaining read, one I whole-heartedly recommend.

I received a copy of the book from the author and this is my voluntary review.

A sweet story of a cowboy needing a bit of help after gaining custody of his brother's three children. Sorta like Sound of Music, but less kids, there is no war, and it's MM.

The family aspect of this book I think would appeal to many, especially as Sebastian is just such a sweetheart dealing with the grief of his niece and nephews. He's simply at a loss until Ash comes along and helps be the grease that the grieving family needs.

This book felt very true to life in that the romance came second to taking care of the kids, however I did find their romance to be a bit unbelievable. The relationship moved incredibly fast for me, and although it was not insta-love, it felt like that since the two MCs were focused on the kids a lot and then out of no where, their talks turned into dating, serious relationship and more.

The spice was not frequent, but there were stolen moments as any adults with children can attest to, spending time together when the kids went to bed, or were in school.

This book although sweet and I love the plot, just didn't do it for me. I felt like their chemistry was a bit off, their conversations didn't flow, it was a bit choppy and jumping all over the place. It didn't feel like there was a smooth transition from one scene to another, even within the same chapter, and I found it hard to follow at time with the third person narrative. I had to keep checking who "He" was, but maybe it's just me who has trouble keeping track.

Sammy also seemed like she was 8 going on teenager, she spoke so succinctly... I suppose girls mature faster, but she was just a little too mature to be believable as an 8-year-old. I'd rather if she was like 12-13, then her antics would totally make much more sense.

Overall, I wanted more romance from their story, but all I got was them trying to work through Sammy and her relationship with Bastian.

Bastian is a dyed-in-the-wool cowboy living in New Mexico whose life has been turned upside down when he becomes the primary guardian of his eight-year-old niece, Sammy, and her twin toddler brothers, Walt and Will. It's a change that neither he nor Sammy asked for--and she won't let him forget it. Recognizing that Bastian is in dire need of help, his mother takes it upon herself to hire Ash, a nanny from New Jersey who is trying to determine what to do next after completing a long-term placement with another family. Ash not only helps Bastian keep his sanity and helps Sammy begin to heal from losing her parents, but he becomes a part of their newly formed family himself.

This was a fun read that really does work as a standalone; honestly, if I didn't know it was part of a series, I would never have suspected it. I think the authors did a really good job of showing the raw grief and pain that Sammy and Bastian were experiencing, while also providing a lot of light, fun moments in between (Walt and Will are adorable little tykes.) I do think that the romance component was rushed though, and it felt unnecessary for them to so quickly jump to being engaged rather than actually dating for a while. Perhaps that's my Grinchiness coming through because that always bugs me in romance books--It's okay to just date! :D

All-in-all, this was a fun and heartwarming read and I enjoyed it.

Another hit for me from BA Tortuga and Jodi Payne. This book does deal with grief as Bastian's brother and sister-in-law have passed away and left him with custody of his twin nephews and niece.
Asher is sent to the rescue, hired by Bastian's mum and couldn't come at a more needed time as one twin runs naked across the balcony of the ranch.....
It's an entertaining introduction to the family but there is clearly some strong emotions, especially between Bastian and his eight-year-old niece, Sammy, as they battle this huge change that has been forced upon them, along with the loss of their life from before and the grief of lost family. Asher is the perfect balance between the two, easily interacting with Sammy on her wavelength and getting Bastian to see that he's not at fault in this. Will and Walt are the breath of fresh air that the whole family need, throughout the good times and the bad, through potty training and puppy love.
The relationship that develops between Asher and Bastian is quite slow to begin with but once they acknowledge what there is between them, there is no going back and it seems like it's full steam ahead. That bit felt slightly rushed to me but didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story.
This series, along with BA's Cozy Cowboys, are comfort reads for me and an easy book to devour and to fall in love with the characters.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

A Manny, Asher and Cowboy, Bastian find their happiness ! New Mexico.
Asher, a Manny, blue eyes, kind and calm, has wavy blonde hair with lean muscles, and is from New Jersey.
Sebastian/Bastian, a cowboy runs the family ranch, and is Guardian of his brother's children, when the parents died. they are Samantha/Sammy, 8, and twins Walt and Will, 3.

Navigating kids grief is a tough task. They'll make a playroom in the huge house, plus the ranch has puppies, a foal, cows, sheep, Llamas and coyotes. The kids are learning Spanish, and his tour shows the beauty there, as he gets the rundown on the kids. Bastian is super brave, but at a loss over how to care for the kids, while running a huge ranch.

We get to see how Asher fits in, and the progress made wrangling in 3 children. Sammy has needs and has an upcoming struggle at a new school. Bastian's struggles are easier now with Asher's help. The men sit on the porch at night and watch the stars each night to relax. Their light banter helps, and Asher thinks he'll be staying longer.

Things are tough at the beginning, the men are patient and ask for other opinions and suggestions, and Sammy especially needs a therapist, but there is a wait list.

Once again our talented writers give us wonderful characters, kids included, and a red hot romance, too. The authors make us happy readers.

ENJOY !

Diamonds in the Rough centers on Sebastian Martindale, a cowboy who unexpectedly inherits his late brother's three children after a tragic accident. Struggling with the demands of raising Samantha, 8, and twins Will and Walt, 3, Sebastian finds himself overwhelmed. His mother steps in and hires Asher Allen, a nanny from New Jersey, to help out.

Asher, fresh from a long-term assignment, is new to ranch life but eager to assist. His presence brings much-needed support to Sebastian, who is out of his depth with the children. Asher helps Sebastian learn effective parenting strategies and builds a bond with the kids, especially with Samantha, who is grappling with grief and adjustment issues.

Asher and Sebastian grow closer, developing a romantic relationship. They navigate their feelings for each other while integrating Asher into the family. Despite the initial 3-month contract, Sebastian hopes to extend it, recognizing the deep connection they share. Their love story unfolds against the backdrop of ranch life, with moments of tenderness and steamy romance. The children play a central role in their journey, contributing to both the challenges and joys of their new family dynamic.

When a city boy is dropped on a ranch in the middle of New Mexico to be the nanny of two very active three-year-old twin boys and a very angry eight-year-old girl, it is a lot. Ash realizes quickly that Uncle Bastian needs his help because he wasn’t prepared to take custody of these kids and certainly didn’t know how to do much other than love them and he did that perfectly. Ash helps Bastian gain control over the household and finds that he is living with a gay, very hot, incredibly wonderful cowboy, and there is an attraction between them. There is only one solution for Ash and Bastian: to become a family.

OPINION: This book is the very definition of a feel-good low-angst story. ‘Watching’ these two men fall in love and build a family together makes you just want the very best for them. There is a love story in here, but so much more when it comes to the kids; I found myself holding my breath with each success, laughing with the twins, and praying that Samantha finds her way after the overwhelming loss she had suffered. Seeing them fall hard but put their family first and work their romance around that is heartwarming. Such a perfect book if you want to just feel good, and enjoy a lovely story about two men finding each other and building a forever family out of three.

Absolutely fantastic!

I loved this book! The story of Bastian and Ash is one of love, loss, chaos, puppies, twin boys and one moody girl and is an absolute pleasure to read! Bastian ends up with his niece, Sammy, and her twin brothers Will and Walt after the death of their parents. It’s hard for them all as grief weighs heavy and Ash is called in to help as the new nanny. Things are rough for Sammy as she tries to find her way and I love how Ash and Bastian are so loving and supportive with her. Doing whatever they can to make her new life a good one will be a struggle but it’s one they do with pride and I love how it all evolves. The twins are an absolute hoot and sometimes holy terrors but they add such wonderful joy to the story. Bastian and Ash will find they have a connection and feelings will grow until no one wants Ash to leave. Becoming part of the family will be his greatest joy and I love how their story ends!

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

I loved this story and couldn’t put it down. The authors paint a wonderful picture of life on the ranch, which made it very easy to visualise. I enjoyed the low angst day-to-day story, with its wonderful characters, yet realistic issues when raising children who have been through loss.

Bastian and Ash fit so well together. I loved how they communicated right from the beginning, and worked as a team to be there for the children, and each other. I liked that they have different strengths and backgrounds. Their friendship, and relationship felt very natural and organic.

I thought Samantha’s issues with her being older felt realistic, and I liked that it takes a while for her to adjust. The twins are cute, yet a handful, and I loved the family feel of the ranch with Wylie and Anna, and then Bastian’s parents. I also loved seeing Early again.

I found this a very satisfying feel-good read, which stayed with me long after I finished reading. Their HEA is sweet, and heart-warming.

'The hardest part of this job wasn’t going to be two wild twin boys like he’d thought. It was going to be Samantha.
And her tio.'

I absolutely loved this book. Bastian found himself in custody of his late brother's three children after they died. Between childcare and working on the ranch, he's completely overwhelmed and at the end of his rope. I loved how Asher was able to step in and take over to give Bastian a moment to breathe. This story was not just a romance, but a story about grief, healing, and family. The twins were cute and full of energy, Samantha was upset and rebellious, hurt over the loss of not only her parents, but her home and friends. She fought against Bastian on almost everything and he was losing patience. Ash fit in well with them, knew how to handle and speak to kids. I was impressed. I liked seeing Samantha grow over the course of the story. I loved how Bastian and Ash grew closer and bonded. They had good chemistry and it was a slow burn. A very beautiful, sweet story. 5 stars.

So this was a first time read for these authors for me. I really enjoyed the story throughout this book and the relationship between the kids and Ash. Overall it was a cute story, definitely felt very insta-love since they got into a relationship really fast and even professed their love and got engaged all within what I think is like 6 months of Ash showing up to nanny. I wasn’t overtly keen on the writing style and I didn’t feel a heaping amounts of chemistry between Ash and Bastian but besides that they were super cute and swoony together which I really enjoyed. I wish the authors had given us an epilogue or two of 1. Their wedding and 2. Maybe years down the line, like 10 years or so to tell us how the kids are doing and what they are up to; definitely would’ve loved to seen how Sammy was doing and what she had decided to do after high school. Overall I’d give this a 3.5 ⭐️ read with 2 🌶️ spice level.

Ash and Bastian were so sweet!

This was such a sweet, gentle story. Yes, there’s a little heartache as there would be when any kids suffer loss and struggle to cope with it. But the love and warmth that pours from Bastian and Ash counterbalances it so well. Those two adore the kids first and foremost and do everything they can to help them find a new and happy normal. One of my favourite parts of reading these books is that the relationship are organic and steady. It’s not instalove, but it is knowing when something has the potential to be truly special. It’s not perfect, easy sailing but it is making the best of what you have and finding a way to be happy and weather the tough times. Ash and Bastian were such a pleasure to read. They fell in love in a sweet and simple way, no fuss, no drama, just listening and caring and being open. Beautiful! I can’t wait for the next one!

Ash arrives in time to see a man chasing one naked baby while holding another. Samantha, 8 years old, answers the door, and so begins his new job as a nanny.

Bastian needs help managing Will and Walt, 2 year old twins, and helping Sammy through her anger and grief after losing their parents in a car accident. Asher takes things in stride, getting Sammy to help out, be more in control of things on her life, while freeing up Bastian to do his work running the ranch.

Ash is there to Bast as he ask grieves and worries about his niece and nephews, and as they talk they share more about themselves. They go out to talk about the kids, but also enjoy each other’s company, and their outings seem like dates.

Their feelings grow as they fulfill a need in each other and agree to be boyfriends. Bastian even tells his parents he loves Ash, a surprise Ash wasn’t expecting.

Cowboy and manny for the win!
This book was super cute and sweet. Sebastian, the exhausted and slightly overwhelmed who has just become guardian to his brother’s 3 kids (two terrible but adorable 3-years boys and a grieving 8-year-old girl), is in over his head, trying so hard to give the kids what they need while trying to keep up with his life and the ranch.
That’s where Asher, the manny, comes in: hired by Bastian’s mum, he has no experience of ranches, cowboys, or New Mexico, but lots of experience with kids.
The connection the two of them form is wonderful, and they become a team and a united front for the kids from the very beginning, even before becoming a couple.
The book is low-angst and high on the feelings, a real treat!

Rounded up to four stars because I really liked the couple. It was also a nice change that Ash isn’t from the country, which added some fun fish out of water scenes. I’m a fan of the unique charm of these authors books, I like their signature voice and character. For me, this was a lot of kid stuff, a lot is Samantha struggling over her parents death. Totally understandable, and I go in knowing kids are often a focus in these stories. It’s well written, but just not my favorite. The couple is excellent though, Ash and Bastian are super charming and lovely guys. I loved that they get together pretty easily, that was nice because it allowed for time for them to really be together on page. Very sweet family.

This grabs you. Ash, goes west to help a family with 3 children, whose parents died and their guardian is their Uncle, Sebastian. His Mother, hired Ash sight unseen. Sebastian, is over his head. He is made guardian of his niece, 8yo and his twin nephews, 3yo who are grieving the loss of their parents while he is grieving the loss of his Brother and Sister in Law. He is struggling with the children. Ash, steps in sympathetic, empathetic and wise. Their relationship gets closer when they realize they have being gay in common with caring for the kids. Ash, is a rock and Seb is amazing! The author, handles grief and how the family handle grief with sensitivity and honesty. Nice cover art! Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A sweet, no-angst romance. Any angst is from the 8 year old coping with the grief of losing both her parents.
The romance is gentle and there's no conflict between the MCs, the grandparents, or the younger children.

I got the impression that the romance developed gently over time but there were no real time markers to give a true reflection of the passage of time. Also things were discussed that I thought we'd be shown but weren't, and I felt those scenes should have been pivotal. Ash's first horse riding lesson. Telling Samantha about them being a couple. And the friends, who could have made a good external sounding board for both MCs with regard to the relationship, were forgotten quite early on.

Cute kids, yummy sounding food, gorgeous landscapes, and a sweet pairing.

I've read quite a few books by these two authors and I think this story is one of their best! It's a story of heartbreak and loss and a found family that puts itself back together with love.
The story starts out with a man who has taken on his sister and brother-in-law's children due to their untimely death. Having never been married or a father, Bastian has no clue how to handle an eight year old niece and three year old twins. So his mother hires a Nanny and in walks Asher. I love how the authors weave this story. They did a fantastic job. And as always I love B.A. Tortuga's scenes around the dinner table and the food!
I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.

If you are looking for a book with a very sweet story this is the book for you.

Asher is a nanny, who works in New York, but accepts a job contract in New Mexico, to take care of some children who have suffered the loss of their parents and who are in the care of their uncle Sebastian.

Sebastian is a cowboy, who sees his life altered because he has to take care of his nephews, Sammy, 8 years old, and Walt and Will, 3 years old twins. He is a bachelor who has never considered having children and is overwhelmed.

There is no drama in the romance, everything flows smoothly.

Love these authors works. Ash gets hired as a nanny to help 3 children who have lost their parents. When he gets to the ranch, he sees one of the younger boy running naked from his uncle as he didn’t want to take a bath. I must say I laughed so hard at that. He went inside and went upstairs to help. There he is greeted by Bastien who had the other boy in the bath. After his offer for help, he got them bathed. This the start of the story with Ash and Bastien getting closer, helping with the kids and trying to get the little girl to talk. Loved how they got together to their happy ever after. Cannot wait to read more.

This is another low-angst enjoyable book in the On the Ranch series. Asher arrives to take a temporary assignment as a nanny to three children who have recently lost both of their parents. They are now living with their bachelor uncle, Bastian, who is over his head, over-worked, and in desperate need of help. The kids are hurting, especially the oldest one, so Asher's work is cut out for him.

It takes a while, but Bastian and Asher slowly learn that each other is gay. Attraction and passion come as they learn that they are matched in a lot of ways and they both love the children. This is a story of a healing journey and a road to making a beautiful family that is resilient and strong.

Bastian, a true cowboy in New Mexico, suddenly finds himself as the primary guardian of his eight-year-old niece, Sammy, and her 3 year old twin brothers, Walt and Will. Neither he nor Sammy wanted this change, and she makes sure he knows it. Seeing Bastian's struggle, his mother hires Ash, a nanny from New Jersey, to help. Ash not only helps Bastian keep his sanity and aids Sammy in healing from the loss of her parents, but he also becomes a vital part of their new family.

This story, though part of a series, works perfectly as a standalone. The authors beautifully balance the raw grief and pain that Bastian and Sammy experience with light, fun moments—thanks in part to the adorable twins. Overall, it’s a heartwarming and enjoyable read.
