dnf @ 40% 💔 I feel bad and I was so excited to read this bc I love sports romance sm. but the writing felt AI generated and the insta love was CRAZY. kissing on page 10 is an immediate no from me. maybe if I would’ve kept going it might have gotten better but idk I really don’t see myself enjoying this one. 🙁
tbf I have not read enough of the book to judge it too harshly, so please don’t take my opinion too seriously <33 and if you loved it, im so happy for you 🫶🏼

3⭐ Genre ~ sports romance Setting ~ Kansas & Wisconsin Publication date ~ September 5, 2024 Publisher ~ Boldwood Books Est Page Count ~ 258 (19 chapters) Audio length ~ 8 hours 36 minutes Narrator ~ Kate Handford POV ~ dual 3rd Featuring ~ football, workplace romance, small town, some steamage
Ella (34) & Jake (36) grew up in the same small town in Kansas where everyone knew your business. Now almost 20 years later they’re living in a different state and still trying to get out of the shadow of their parents' mistakes, Ella more so than Jake.
Jake has been forced to retire from the NFL. The reasoning was pretty admirable once we learned what it was. He purchases a bar and turns it into a sports bar. It just so happens this was Ella’s favorite Friday night spot until there wasn’t a decent song on the jukebox.
Ella is a principal at a HS that’s on the cusp on being shut down. She’s also raising her 15 year old brother, Cameron, who seems to hate her and the world. Running out of options, she asks Jake to create a winning football team that’ll not only help keep the school open, but will hopefully get Cameron on track. Ella has a wonderful best friend and ‘Aunts’ that brought some fun to the story.
I liked that they knew each other back in the day, so they had some familiarity with each other, but then they really get to know each other more in the present. While I felt the chemistry between them something still felt off with them. I can’t exactly put my finger on it. Absolutely hated their first fight, which could have gone down a little better with some communication, however I can see why what was assumed was. Also, Ella is a bit of a hypocrite with some things that I didn’t care for.
Overall, it was a likable, quick read, but still felt on the longer side. I will surely check out more books from Amy in the future, though.
Side note ~ this originally came out in 2013 as Holding Out For a Hero and has been rewritten to give Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce vibes. The vibes were not really in my face, so I appreciated that. I wonder what else differs between the two versions.
Narration notes: I did not listen to this one, but am just giving the info above for reference.
It was a very quick read, but the writing felt off at times. I didn’t care a lot about the story and even though about dnfing, but then I realized that the book is either way almost over. It’s a sports romance with a teacher who tries to save the school. This part was cute, but the love story was too fast. I wished for more tension and build up instead of the spice.
The perfect small town, sports romance to devour 🏈🩷
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What to expect:
🏈 small town 🏈 disgraced NFL player 🏈 headteacher fighting to keep school open 🏈 he coaches the school football team
This was a fast paced, quick read, easy to read on a cosy afternoon at home! Loved the sparks between Ella and Jake. Recommend to anyone who loves small town, sports romance. Can’t wait to read more from Amy Andrews!!
A good sports novel - about a struggling high school and an ex nfl Super Bowl champ is roped in to help the school improve with a brand new football team. Jake is reunited with his small town love interest who is now the principal. I love the bond and chemistry between Ella and Jake and their close friends who feature throughout this book.
This romance was such an easy read! I loved the mix of characters and their growth on each of their relationships.
Jake & Ella grew up in the same small town with disgraced parents. Both Jake & Ella worked so hard to not be known for what their parents were. Jake ends up in the NFL & Ella becomes a math teacher. The two rekindle their friendship when Ella’s school is in trouble & close to shutting down when NFL star Jake decides to coach the football team.
Based on the title and Travis Kelce reference, I thought this was going to be similar to their story but it was WAY different, but I liked it!
🏈 Football player/Coach Romance 🏈 Small Town Romance 🏈 Friends to Lovers
3.5 stars rounded up. It's a kind of sports romance, but it's an ex athlete instead of a cutter athlete. The path of our fmc and Mc have been intertwined, and who are they to fight it. There is some smut but not over descriptive. The story was good but loved too slow for me.
I was provided with a free ebook copy of this via NetGalley for review purposes. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for this copy.
If you are looking for a short and sweet sports romance then I'd recommend 'Look What You Made Me Do' - this summer I've been a sucker for a sports romance and can't resist a swiftie book title. It was nice to read a story from the perspective of older protagonists who a history to bring to a whirlwind romance.
I found myself invested in the turn around of the school as well as the development of the characters and their romance. There isn't a lot of depth to this story and I didn't find anything particularly surprising but it didn't stop me from enjoy the charm. Plus there were parts where you could really feel the lust between Jake and Ella!
This was my first dive into Amy Andrews' work, and I finished it in about three hours! The chemistry between the two main characters was electric, and their journey through emotional hurdles was engaging and heartfelt. Though it took a little time for me to get fully immersed, once I did, I was hooked. Amy Andrews' writing is superb, transporting me right into the story alongside the characters. A truly enjoyable read!
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with an advanced copy of this book!
"It felt un-fucking unbelievable" the reporter laughed again "can i quote you?" . 3.2/⭐ 3/🌶️ #arc netgalley . A cute romantic story about 2 people who came from the same town and didn't feel at home their and now try to save the school ella works at by starting a football programme . What i loved: - character background The characters have very detailed and coherent backstories it is wonderful to see a story starting around 2 characters that are truly taught through
-character development I love how ella learnt how to live with her situation but also got help from jake with excepting it really well done
-Writing style: I put it in what i loved because it was an easy read story made sense not to difficult exactly what i needed Sometimes i was a bit like do you really need to describe it this way ? But it was not really bothering
-What i didn't love:
-After funeral sex So why do we have this first chapter i don't get it it feels like I needed sex that to me doesn't give much to the story
-the card reading For a math teacher this feels to me a bit out of character Also it's fortune telling i do not want them to tell me what happens next i want to read it
Ella Lucas escaped her bigoted small-town and her mother's less than squeaky-clean profession. She's Principal of Deluca High School, but things are looking bleak because student numbers are falling and the district wants to close the school. She's going to need a miracle. Two years ago she buried her mother and discovered she had a teenage half-brother, oh and she might have propositioned local bad boy Jake Prince.
Jake lived in the same small town, his Dad was a drinker and a gambler, so he knows exactly how Ella feels, he got out by virtue of playing football (American), but was booted out at the height of his career after a scandal. Co-incidentally, he's recently bought and refurbished Ella's favourite bar where she meets her friends after a hard day.
When Ella's friend recognises Jake he suggests they could get Jake to set up a football team at the school, if the team does well the district would find it difficult to close the school. At first Jake is reluctant, until he discovers that Ella is Principal of Deluca school where his friend Trish's daughter also attends - he knows she loves the school and he will do what he can to keep it open. After all, what else has he got to do with his time and his money? It doesn't hurt that Ella still has that smokin' schoolteacher look either.
If you love a small-town, opposites attract, plucky underdogs, romance then this is the one for you.
Sorry, I totally forgot to say I loved it.
I understand that this is a rewrite of an Australian rugby story first published a decade ago.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley.
This book was very fun! I flew through it, it’s a perfect light read. I really liked all the characters and loved the dynamic between them all and the found family aspect. I was invested in the football team and their attempts to save the school, as well as the budding relationship between Ella and Jake. This book does have some darker themes to be aware of but it handles them well. Overall a very enjoyable romance read!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Ella Lucas, the headteacher with a million responsibilities, and Jake Prince, the football star with a messy past, have a history that’s way too complicated to ignore. After his NFL drama, Jake’s back in town, and honestly, Ella has enough on her plate without him stirring the pot. But here’s the twist: they decide to team up to help each other out. Ella’s school is on the brink of closure, and Jake needs to fix his reputation.
As they tackle the football season together, the sparks fly, and you can’t help but root for them, even though Ella’s trying to keep it strictly business.
This book is surprisingly sweet but also hits you in the feels. Every character faces major hurdles, and the whole "judged for their parents' sins" theme really adds depth. By the end, my heart was full!
Thank you NetGalley, Boldwood Books, and Amy Andrews for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was a quick and easy read. Ella is a teacher who got thrown into being principal and Jake was a football player who returned home after retiring. When Jake becomes the coach for the football team at Ella’s school, their relationship develops as they are spending time together. I enjoyed the chemistry between Jake and Ella, but the ending seemed too rushed. After everything else comes to light (trigger warning about SA and slur shaming) the ending is wrapped up too quickly.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for honest review.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood books for the arc of this for my honest review.
This story is based around Ella and Jake, 2 people from a small gossiping town where they were constantly judged on their parents' lifestyles.
They run into each other years down the line when she's the head of a school on the brink of closure, and he is a retired NFL star. Working together to try and save the school leads to more than expected.
It was a nice, easy read, and I would recommend to anyone looking for a smaller story to read.
This was all over the place while nothing was actually happening. I swear it felt like I only actually read two scenes, not almost a quarter of the book. I still have no substantive information about either character and what's worse is I don't care.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
I was so excited for this book, I love Taylor Swift, so the title alone drew me in. I love sports romance so I was very excited for it.
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was as hard to get through. I’m not a fan of books written in the third person, the writing style was also not for me.
This was *interesting* to say the least! I picked this up because of the Taylor Swift of it all - I’m a shameless Swiftie let’s be real here however this is a 2013 release that has presumably been extensively edited and molded to somewhat reflect the Taylor/Travis relationship
I’m very curious what the original version of this book was - and insanely curious if Jake was a NFL player and, if so, what his shirt number was.
This was a cute romance, it isn’t hugely related to Taylor Swift bar the title, the fact Jake wears the number 87 short and some small references here and there and it’s clearly to get the Swifties to pick up this novel!
It was fun, not the best novel I’ve ever read, but fun enough and I do need more NFL based romances in my life.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.
High school headteacher Ella Lucas is having a bad year. Her school is at risk of being closed by the district, she's raising her 15 year old brother, Cameron, who blames her for his crappy childhood, and she needs help. Living in the shadow of her mother's past, she faces scorn from every turn, especially in a town where everyone is in everyone else's business. So when NFL star Jake Prince returns home with a reputation just as bad, Ella decides he could be the hero she needs, and if they can form a winning football team for the school, then it can't be closed. But they forgot to factor in their feelings, especially after the night they spent together two years ago.
Well, this book was phenomenal! I read it on my last day on holiday this summer, in one sitting - I just couldn't put it down. Ella and Jake had a hot and steamy night two years ago, but never discussed it since. Ella is now trying to reclaim her reputation, and is doing everything she can for her brother, and her school, but it's hard. Jake might be her only hope, and though he's against the coaching to begin with, he recognises himself in a lot of the boys, and wants to help them achieve their best, like the help he had from his own coach.
The chemistry between the pair was some of the most intense I've ever read. They were perfect for each other, but had their individual flaws, which were explored in the plot. There was a fight between them that I hated - miscommunication which could've been solved by a simple conversation - but the way they made up and became stronger for it was definitely worth it. I also loved that Jake fell first, and he fell hard! Such a great book, I'll definitely be on the lookout for more from Amy in the future!
This….was a really tough read. Not very well written, I’m SO sorry but both the FMC & MMC were kinda unbearable? Also…the absolutely blatant misogyny????? Like..ok ur mom is a s*x worker…and you literally hate her so much that you had to leave town…ok girl. Also the fact that in her mum’s letter or whatever she admitted to having s*x with underaged boys from the school????? HUH?????!!??
It was not spicy at all, it felt weird that she propositioned him right away like literally the first page??? What?? Idk it was just weird. It felt like it was written by chat GBT

'Ella Lucas loved him. And he loved her right back.'
Not me cheering at the end.
Look What You Made Me Do by Amy Andrews is a sports romance that focuses on Ella and Jake, two outcasts from their hometown who find common ground in an unlikely place. Ella is the headteacher at the local high school, who is focusing on keeping her school open. Jake is the person she's trying to forget after an unforgettable night together two years prior. The only issue? He might be the key to getting the football team to the playoffs and save the school from closure. After his less than favourable exit from professional football, all Jake wants is a quiet life running the local bar, but he can't quite turn his back on the chance to redeem himself, and he definitely can't turn his back on Ella.
I have some mixed emotions on this book, and I want to get the bad stuff out of the way so that I can focus on more of the really good things about this book.
The biggest issue I had with this book is one that in all honesty, nearly made me DNF. It's to do with Tony Winchester. I won't get into spoilers, but he is a despicable man with zero redeeming qualities. But there was a whole paragraph starting with 'It was shame really...objectively, he was still an impressive looking man.' It was unnecessary and in my opinion was inappropriate. After what he does, there is no saying its a shame because I think he's attractive. It got me wound up enough that I was left feeling a bit uncomfortable.
The other thing that I didn't like was the use of the phrase 'AF'. I could've understood if it was teens talking to each other, but it was just the narrator ending sentences by saying 'awkward AF'. It was very jarring and it took me out of the story every time I read it. I don't know why it was in the last 20ish percent of the book when it wasn't used at all throughout most of the book, but it was an odd choice. It didn't really work in any aspect of the book but when it was used in a moment that was actually quite sweet and heartfelt moment for Ella, I genuinely rolled my eyes. It just didn't work for me.
Okay now on to the things I really enjoyed about this book.
The chemistry between Ella and Jake was unmatched. by having a bit of a backstory between the two of them at the start of the book meant that the more instant attraction for me didn't feel like it was coming out of nowhere. They worked so well as a couple both when they were romantically linked and when they were trying to keep things purely professional. I wasn't as keen that when they had the argument it came out of Ella not being willing to hear Jake out, but because her backstory was so well fleshed out, it made sense with who she is as a character and instead of being frustrated that there was no communication, I could understand why it was happening. Jake took me a little longer to like, but that's because his backstory is with held until towards the end of the book, which worked in terms of impact, but with the amount of hinting at his past, I would have personally preferred it to have been laid out early, however I still thought he was a great character. to the point when Ella does the one thing he asks her not to do, I was frustrated on his behalf, and shouting 'No! Why!' at my kindle.
The whole idea of the football team, which hadn't even been formed at the start of the book, needing to get to the playoffs to save the school gave the whole book a bit of an early 2000s, rom com type vibe that I really enjoyed. Whilst it took me a little bit of time to get into the book, once I got into it, I ended up reading most of the book in one sitting. I like that it was evenly split between saving the school, and the story between Ella and Jake, there was never a point where I felt like one was getting prioritised over the other, which kept me turning the pages.
For anyone like me that picked up the book because there were multiple references to Taylor Swift, the references in the book are a lot more subtle, and honestly I prefer it that way. It didn't feel like the book was trying too hard to be about Taylor Swift.
I really enjoyed the almost strangers-to-lovers, found family, underdog aspects of the book, they worked really well, and they really made this book so good. Mostly I just wish that most of the more heavy topics had been handled better. Sometimes it felt a little like they were there for shock value, and had they been handled better with appropriate content warnings, I would have thought the book was better. I think the book is 3/3.5 stars for me. I mostly enjoyed it.
ARC provided by Boldwood Books through NetGalley, thank you for the opportunity to read this early copy, all thoughts are my own.
TW: slut-shaming, discussions of SA of a background character
So. I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, I kind of enjoyed the story between Jake and Ella. The push and pull, bickering, banter and chemistry. It was all there. Plus all the Taylor Swift references (that were WAY more subtle than the description would have you believe, I promise - like the fact that Jake, the football player, wears number 87). But, the heavy topics this book tried to tackle blindsided me. I wasn't ready for any of it.
The main character is slut-shamed throughout the entirety of the book, either because someone learns about her mother (more of that later), or because people from her past judge her. Her mother was a hooker and everyone assumed that Ella was the same. So they slut-shamed her, called her names, turned her life into hell, even now, 19 years after graduating high school. They all judged her. All except the MMC, of course.
And then there was a minor character (MMC's best friend) being almost raped by her then-boyfriend when they were younger. Again, there was no trigger/content warnings, nothing. It was all out of left field, for the shock value I guess? To make the stakes even higher? I'm not sure. And I'm not sure if the blade attitude of this girl "what happened, happened I put it in the past now and I don't care if the media goes after my daughter if i reveal it" was the way to go.
Aaaand Ella's mother. She's dead now, but the way they handled that... I guess the author tried to be woke and show that sex workers are just people blah blah blah but they way she did that was just inconsiderate imo. Because that character left a letter to her daughter. In which she told her that she was good at what she did and that she enjoyed it. Because that's what her daughter wanted to hear, right? But that's not all. That character tried to justify it that she only spread live and what can be more pure than that?
You, lady, (the character and the author I guess for trying to justify it in that way), are delusional. You weren't "spreading love". You had sex with both married men AND school boys for money. There was nothing noble about this. Stop trying to turn it into something it wasn't. You. Had. Sex. For. Money. With. Married. Men. And. School. Boys. Your. Daughter's. Classmates. For. Money. You didn't "spread love". You spread something, but it sure as hell wasn't love. And you didn't care that your children were judged and BULLIED by the entire town for your actions! You admitted you liked pretty things and having sex. That was enough. The whole "spreading love" was bullshit and you know it.
Aaaand now I'm angry.
The ending was rushed. The author tried to wrap it all up in a neat little bow but it felt forced and rushed. I'm glad that the characters ended up together but for a romance there was too much horniness and less... Well, romance. Sure, they were attracted to one another. But in love? I don't buy it.
Also, the book made it seem like the MCs were strangers who only met 2 years prior, spent the night together, and now we're thrown together by life. That's not true. They both grew up in the same small town, went to the same school (he was 2 years older than her), somehow he ended up at her prom and they kissed, and two years prior they simply slept together. After knowing each other since they were kids. So it wasn't really strangers to lovers the book description tried to sell.
Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood books for the copy of the book. This is my honest review.

This review is being posted as part of the Look What You Made Me Do blog tour hosted by Rachel’s Random Resources.
Look What You Made Me Do is the latest romance novel from author Amy Andrews. This is a quick and steamy read, perfect for fans of a good sports romance.
This is a second-chance romance of sorts as Ella and Jake knew each other from High School and had previously had a one night stand, so fans of that trope will particularly enjoy this book. The couple had electric chemistry and the spicy scenes were incredibly well written. Three words: pool table scene. I was OBSESSED.
In addition to the romance, this book has a whole lot of heart. Ella is a school headteacher trying to save her school from closure. Her school is in a small town serving disadvantaged students and to see the growth we see in the students on the football team in particular, going from students with poor attendance and grades to standout members of the school community, was really heartwarming.
Ella was a fantastic protagonist who felt very real and relatable. Her passion for improving outcomes for her school community was admirable. I also found the storyline with Ella’s late mum to be really interesting, as was the portrayal of Ella’s complicated grief journey following her passing. Also with his own baggage, Jake was a brilliant MMC. He was a gentleman, even in the bedroom, and became a brilliant role model for the young football players he was mentoring. His backstory was really interesting and had depth to it I wasn’t expecting to see within a romcom novel, which was a really nice addition.
Look What You Made Me Do also has a wonderful cast of supporting characters. Ella’s brother Cameron was one of my favourites, particularly due to his character development over the course of the book as he finds direction in life through his newfound passion for football and gradually starts to repair his relationship with his sister. Seeing him find a much-needed male role model in Jake was really nice too. There’s also a lovely found family element to the story with Ella and her best friend Rosie finding a home and a family with Rosie’s eccentric great aunts Daisy and Iris (who, side note, were brilliant characters in themselves).
Overall, Look What You Made Me Do is a fantastic steamy romance which fans of a good sports romance will devour as quickly as I did. Although this was my first time reading anything from Amy Andrews, her writing style hooked me quickly and I can’t wait to read more from her.
*I received a copy of this book in eBook format via NetGalley in return for this review. All reviews published are completely honest and my own, and are in no way influenced by the gifting opportunity. Thank you to NetGalley, Amy Andrews, Boldwood Books and Rachel’s Random Resources.
A small town with lots of drama forces two of its own out and they find their way back, but this time she is a principal and he is retired from the NFL making him free to coach the new high school team. While they weren't exactly friends as kids, they never lacked chemistry and it is still intact with even more sparks. Jake and Ella have tried to run as far from their past, but it continues to follow them wherever they go. Together, they can accept and move on from their parent's shadows and find love and the family they knew they deserved.
Ella grew up in a small town where her mother was scorned for her line of work. Growing up, Ella felt that shame, and yet she was strong enough to keep going with her kind and compassionate heart. But it made her work harder to prove herself worthy of love and acceptance. After the death of her mother years later, she wanted to shed her good girl image, so on the day of her mother's funeral she walks right up to the town bad boy and propositions him in front of everyone. Jake tries to be a gentleman and put up a fight but they give in and leave with a memorable with the best one-night stand.
Two years later, they are reconnected in Inverbero. She is the new principal of a failing high school and has about one school year to turn it around or it faces closing. Jake is retired from the NFL and a new bar owner, and he adds the role of head coach of the newly formed football team to his plate. They still have great chemistry and Ella wants to keep things strictly professional but it's hard for either of them to forget their memorable night together.
It's really beautiful to see these two damaged souls find peace and love with one another. For most of their childhood, they had to live in the shadows of their parents and were judged by the entire community, but they never judged each other. It's hard to see that those past traumas carried into the life of Ella's brother Cam, but it was sweet to see how Jake was the male role model Cameron deserved. But don't say anything about his woman because he will set you straight. It was so fulfilling to see them get the happy ever after that they worked so hard for. Amy Andrews is one of my go-to romance authors and she kicked the game-winning field goal with Look What You Made Me Do!
I will start with two very important information. 1. It is not a Taylor Swift- Travis Kelce fanfic. In fact, it has no relation to Tayvis. 2. Don't be fooled by the cute cover. It is spicy.
I love a good sports romance. What I love even more is retired misunderstood NFL star getting a second chance at glory and redemption through helping an underdog school team! Add a strict principal and their complex history with passion and heartache..you have an amazing read! Look What You Made Me Do by Amy Andrews is a mix of everything. Some good old enemies to lovers tension. Some tragic past. A lot of emotional luggage. Two completely opposite kind of persons.
When Ella Lucas had an impulsive one night stand with their wretched small town's hero, ex NFL star Jake Prince..she didn't think she will meet him again and will have to ask for his help to coach her school's new football team and help her to save the public school. Ella has worked so hard to make an identity away from her past. From her dead mother's infamous life. But every little set back brings back the shame and guilt and anger. She is the nerd, the perfect teacher, the strict principal with perfect morals..but the past still cast a shadow.
Jake Prince also has a dark past but his career helped to remove the stain. He never wanted to go back to football considering the circumstances those forced him to retire. But Ella convinced him. And I love to root for underdogs. A bunch of kids turned their school around and I cheered for them through it all. It was so hopeful and heartwarming! Now Ella tried to hate Jake. His c0cky attitude. His panty melting charm. His dark side that matches her own. They are from different sides but they fit each other perfectly with their pain and angst. The secondary characters were absolutely entertaining and I wanted to spend some more time with them! The plot was fast with plenty of twists and turns and I was glued to the page.
