I am not okay.
If you're looking for a dark romance book that's going to throw you down a rabbit hole filled with twists and turns, I think you might have found the book for you. It's slowburn, forced proximity, and fake marriage with some crime and mystery in there.
My heart rate was peaked the entire time, and I read it in the space of a two day adrenaline fueled blur.
The storyline was different and intriguing and definitely had me in a choke hold. Usually, I can predict the general plot of a book, but I had no idea what was going to happen with this one, and the ending had my stomach plunging to the floor.
Do be warned theres some darker themes and some scenes that may have you questioning whether you are mentally okay, but it is 100% worth the read. I really wasn't sure I liked zain at first, but by the end, i'd developed a soft spot for him, even though he has some less than desirable qualities.
I'm not sure what to expect from the next book or what I even want to happen, but I will definitely be coming along for the ride. This author is new to me, but I'm glad I've discovered them, and I'm sure you will be too.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning! This book is filled with mystery. I couldn’t decide if I had sympathy, anger, frustration, or curiosity for the MMC lol He kept me guessing. Deep down I think he has an amazing heart and I can’t wait to see him let some of his guard down. As for the FMC she makes some interesting choices throughout the book I enjoyed her attitude. I was excited to see her finally stand her ground and put the MMC in his place and watch their relationship grow.

THE AUDACITY OF THAT ENDINGGGGGGGG!!! *screams into pillow*
Look.. this is slow burn of slow burns BUT the story is so captivating and engaging that I never noticed or minded the low spice. I was sucked in from start to finish
My heart feels for Zain and I can’t imagine what he went through and how it changed him as a person. But all is not what it seems!
This is suspense packed, revenge filled, angst and tension with plot twists and eventual heat. Loved every second of it.
I cannot wait until book 2!

This book is tense and gripping. It has a different vibe to L.Ann's previous series but still with her expected gritty darkness. I devoured every page to find the answers to the book's mysteries (this is book 1 with a cliffhanger- answers just pose more questions- be warned ⚠️).
Zain has spent 14 years in prison for the violent murder of her best friends. The key witness in his trial is Ashley, younger sister of one of the victims. Zain is released and is seeking retribution and vengeance for the 14 years he is lost. Ashley is soon caught in his web. Zain has a plan and we're all just along for the ride.
This is a thoroughly gripping thriller of a book. It is slow burn on the romance side of things. Although their hate energy is delicious. And you just know these two are going to be burning up the pages when they get over their need to be combative.
If you love a growly, dominant man with a plan (who has been locked up for 14 years with a lot of pent-up sexual energy) and a firey no nonsense FMC caught up in a web of revenge, then give Ruthless Intent a read.

Buckle up beautiful people because you're about to lose your sanity. Now I love me a juicy cliffhanger but WHY!! I can't wait, I need to know what happens
I'm not sure I have words for what I've just read but that's good right, it's the whole grail when reading a book, to read something that leaves you utterly speechless, well this is one of those .. I also think I maybe slightly unhinged because Zain is *chef's kiss
Ashley as far as heroines go is up there. She has a vulnerability that I love but also this feisty and sassy side that comes out when she's pushed

OMG this book is unlike anything else I’ve read! I don’t know how to put into words how I’m feeling right now! lol
I was hooked from the start and was left guessing throughout the book, I was on the edge of my seat at the end there.
This follows Zain, whose life was turned upside down after he was arrested for murder and sentenced to life behind bars, all because of one witness testimony.
14 years later new evidence has come to light and Zain is a free man. But he has vengeance on his mind and is determined to make the girl who ruined his life pay. But there’s also the question of who is guilty!??
Ashley was only 13 when she witnessed the murder, so when she hears that Zain has been released she’s know’s he’s going to be looking for her. But she doesn’t realise just how much he’s going to mess with her.
I really can’t say more than that without giving away plot but go read this book!!

With an ending like this I’m not sure when I’ll recover!! This book was just what I needed to stimulate my mind. As we are introduced to each character, the author gives us just enough to make us want more. We are immersed in a world of murder, false imprisonment and paying for your mistakes. I each new revolution on who killed Jason and Louisa will have you trying to piece together who knew what, who covered for someone else and who did it.
The author gave us anger and fear with a dash of spice. The push and pull between Ashely and Zain had me on the edge of my seat waiting to see if they would give in to the spark between them. Once again the author has given us a story you will be completely immersed in and left with a feeling of sadness when the book ends because you’ll be begging for more.

I have so many questions!
I'm not sure how to describe this book. I was like a crack head needing another fix while reading this book.
At 24% I couldn't stop thinking about it. I had so many thoughts and opinions.
This book is labeled as a psychological romance. I've never read anything like this but damn do I need more.
L. Ann is amazing at sucking you into a story that you don't even notice your children need to eat or your husband needs attention lol 😆
I love Zain Ryder even if I don't agree with his interesting choices lol
I love the little spit fire that is Ashley! Just wait until you find out her nickname! 😏 I still stand by calling L Ann the Queen of nicknames.
This is a slow burn so be ready to scream at your Kindle and swoon when u do finally get a little something.... Well maybe not so little lol 😆

I’ve been waiting patiently for L.Ann’s next release and I was so happy when an early copy of Ruthless Intent landed on my kindle.
Ruthless Intent is a book I didn’t realise I needed.
It’s slow burn with a thriller type mystery that will keep you guessing, keep you reading and keep you invested in this story. Zain was a character with rage and pain. Ashley was full of fire. This made for an amazing interaction between the two. The plot moved along at a good pace my interest peaked at every turn of the page. Ultimately I got to the end screaming at my kindle wtf 😬 Yes there is cliffhanger ( book two is not far behind I hope 🤞) please write quickly L. Ann I’m in need of answers.

Wow, Wow, Wow incredible. If your looking for a book that is going to keep you up all night because you simply can't put it down, because you just keep turning those pages wanting to know more, then this is the book for you.
It is full of twists and turns and also keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering whats going to happen next between Zain and Ashley.
It ends with a cliffhanger so I'm now desperate to read the next installment it can't come soon enough, I loved this one .

What happens when the guy you sent to prison for murder gets out suddenly? Ashley is about to find out. She’s torn between thinking he wouldn’t blame a kids testimony and the true fear it won’t matter. This is an action packed, sometimes hard to swallow ride. It isn’t for the faint of heart. There are trigger warnings that should be taken seriously. If you like a dark juicy story then I recommend you step up, prepare your fanciest swan dive and dive on in! There is a cliffhanger and now I am dying for book two already!

I have to admit, reading the blurb, I was a little scared about what I'd find. Well, I couldn't put it down. It's horrific, frustrating, tension filled, sexual and "No The #### Way" moments. Definitely not for the faint of heart, or straight-laced romance readers. BUT, I WANT MORE!

To say I was excited when I learned L. Ann was releasing a new book is a complete understatement. I’ve enjoyed reading all of her series and love that they are all different from the others.
This story grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go. I got ticked off when exhaustion caused me to stop reading the night I started and I was only through 28% of the story. I woke up early the next day so I could read before work, then cursed when I had to leave my house. I highlighted and made notes as I read and YES, there were quite a few WTFs notated. I MAY have sent screenshots of several of my notes to the author regarding my theories. LOL
Zain Ryder was sentenced to two life sentences for the murder of his best friend and his girlfriend. After being imprisoned for 14 years, he is released. His arrest was based on the testimony of his best friend’s younger sister. Zain has been planning his revenge for what she did to him, and now that he’s out, he’s ready to set his plan in motion.
Ashley Trumont moved away from the town where the murders occurred, made a life for herself in New York, and has stayed away. Then she sees the news of Zain’s release and is compelled to return to her childhood home to see her mother. She doesn’t expect to see Zain, but that doesn’t stop it from happening.
I kept turning page after page, inhaling the words, and forming theories as new information came available.
Who did it?
Is it who I think it is?
Is that a red herring?
Zain has his plan and starts carrying it out immediately upon his release, but he’s also dealing with life outside of the routine of prison life as he’s known it for 14 years. Is he the monster he wants Ashley to believe he is or is it just an act to carry out his plan?
Ashley doesn’t know what to believe about Zain. Will he carry out his threats? Will he fully control her life for the next fourteen months? She’s learning more about him minute by minute. Is he the monster he seems to be?
I don’t know the answers to any of those questions!
I NEED to know the answers to ALL of those questions.
For readers who want to know, this is a REALLY slow burn. In all honesty, I was so caught up in the story that I didn’t realize that aspect until the burn started. That’s one of the top things I loved about this book…the plot had me so caught up in it. Another was Ashley. At first, I thought she would be scared and easy for Zain to control, but she surprised him, and me, with the way she stood up to him time after time. She may be scared, but she doesn’t let that fear dictate her actions. She lives up to the nickname he calls her. It goes without saying that Zain is another aspect I loved.
I don’t know how I’ll handle waiting for book two after the cliffhanger at the end of this one. That just created even more questions and theories in my mind. I think Lee Ann needs to lock herself away so no outside distractions can get in the way of her writing the second book in this duet.

I don’t think I have ever finished a book so fast!! L’s story will destroy you, nothing else will matter while you are read this dark and twisted tale. Need the rest of the story asap!!!

One day!! That’s all it took to read because I could not put it down! This is more than a romance novel. It’s a suspenseful, psychological romance that will keep you guessing until the very end. I felt like a detective, trying to uncover who was truly at fault. By the end, I guarantee you’ll get whiplash from the unexpected twists!

Well, this book certainly had me engrossed. It’s not your typical romance. It actually has an amazing plot that just sucks you in from the start. From the very first sentence all the way to the end had me at the edge of my seat. It was more like a psychological thriller to me, with a ton of suspense and mystery. There was more plot than spice, which I don’t mind because I need to have a good story to go along w/ the characters. This is a slow, slow burn, but once you get to it, it BURNS.
Zain wants revenge for being sent to prison based on a testimony made by one of the victim’s, half sister, Ashley. Ashley was just a child at the time, but 14 years have passed when he is released. The book starts in the present and we get to see flashbacks from the time he was convicted. It’s a roller coaster ride from there and I did not want to put this book down. Even when I completed it, I couldn’t get it out of my head. When I thought I knew whodunit, I was mistaken…so, I’m still trying to figure that out.

Wow what have I just read! This was a book I could not put down and I finished this in one sitting. The writing is just so good, I couldn’t put my kindle down.
I’m still trying to get my head around the story and I need book 2! I have so many questions and want the answers now! This book really captivated me right from the start. I loved Zain and Ashley, their connection felt so genuine, I loved the hate they initially felt towards one another.
I could understand Zain’s reasons for what he was doing and I need to now understand what happened 14 years ago. This book was a brilliant set up for what I’m sure will be an outstanding conclusion.
The slow burn made complete sense in this book and was exactly what was needed. When they did connect - wow- perfection!
The cliff hanger has left me desperate for more. I can normally guess the baddie, but I can honestly say I have no idea! I want to know more about Zain, Jason and Louisa’s history and I hope we find out more in book 2.

The FMC Ashley has lived with the nightmares of the night she found her brother’s body and his best friend standing over him for 14 years. When she hears he’s been released she runs home to pack up the last of her belongings to flee and never step foot in her hometown again.
Fate has other ideas when it brings her nightmare to her and even worse when it somehow ties him to her for the next year.
She knows he blames her, he will want revenge for her part in his sentence, she knows what she saw, or at least, she thought she did, the more time she spends around him the more the puzzle pieces don’t fit together and she begins to question if she sent an innocent man to jail.
This book was a rollercoaster of emotions, of characters classing and plot unraveling, the ultimate whodunnit and probably the most suspenseful cliffhanger ending!!
If you’re a little like me and impatient go into this book knowing it’s a slow burn, the scene needs to be set for the betrayals and plots, believe me, by the end, you’ll be desperate for the next book because I need to know all the secrets to all these questions that have been unearthed!!

I need book two!!
I have no idea where to start apart from telling you that this book is so bloody good!!! I was hooked straight away. I lost sleep, I could not put this book down…
Zain is more than ruthless. He wants his own justice after being wrongly imprisoned for 14 years. He wants to make Ashley pay for her involvement in putting him away! Things don’t go according to plan. There are so many twists and turns that this author leads you on then laughs at your demise when nothing is as it seems…
Whilst this is a slow burn with the emphasis on SLOW, I was so wrapped up in the storyline to notice. The plot is that good!! I got to the last chapter so quickly that I was floored when I realised there was nothing more after the shocker of that cliffhanger!!
Has this made me question everything I thought I knew was happening in the book? Heck, Yes!!
Am I impatiently waiting for book 2? 100%, Yes!!
A must read for anyone who loves a psychological thriller. No doubt in my mind that this is a 5 star rating! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a book!!! I literally flew through this story within less than 24 hours! I need the second part ASAP! I loved the MCs, the mystery, the story arc and even the cliffhanger! The tension between Ashley and Zain is first class. Be warned, it is slow-, slow-, slow-burn, but it's perfect this way!

My thoughts are all over the place. The author has always written plot driven stories but this one ? This is next level.
I want the second part of that story, desperately.

Omg this book is fantastic!!! The spice outstanding the story. Ok the story he’s coming for her. She is going to pay for putting him in prison and he gets released. He has a plan to make her suffer . It’s EXCELLeNT!!! I want to say more details but I just can’t. This cliff hanger though..is scream worthy. It is WORTH it!! I Love this book!! 100% Highly recommend!!

I have learnt the hard way that when reading books by L. Ann certain precautions need to be taken ...... setting alarms to remember important things like picking up children ..... ensuring my book bestie is available for discussions and to vent to ..... and making sure I have somewhere soft for my kindle to land when thrown.
All of the above were required for Ruthless Intent.
I have mixed and confused feelings about both main character, Zain and Ashley, and so many theories going around in my head that sleeping is difficult.
Ruthless Intent it yet another masterpiece of writing from L. Ann and I am literally on tenterhooks waiting for book 2.
Highly recommended.

Holy granola! This book was absolutely brilliant with so many twists I never saw coming! Ashley is beyond strong and Zain, well there are moments I hate him and others I just want to hug him. Can’t wait for their story to be continued!

I knew there was a cliff hanger, I knew there was a second part. It wasn’t like I wasn’t expecting it. Yet I still threw a tantrum when it ended. I was full on deeply engrossed, glued to the pages. Go away I’m reading mode had been activated.
Yet when it ended I full on shouted WTF! And proceeded to pout. Then harassed the author into telling me when the second part is out.
The first half of the book is slow, but not in a bad way. A slow build up. You can feel her fear and you can feel his hatred. And whilst you have sympathy for what the MMC has gone through, you really start to hate him in his journey for revenge. It’s pretty clear early on, that the only reason she’s the one he’s focused on is because she’s pretty much the only one around for him to reach. Tag she’s it kinda thing. Despite internally your yelling at him that she was just a 13 year old traumatised kid.
I liked that the information was drop fed to us. The interrogation, the pregnancy. Things you don’t see coming but are small and yet make a big impact on the story itself. And then you see the MMC start to question everything he thought he knew.
We have a few suspects to who the real killer might be. A couple theories, but the author is literally keeping it close to the vest so the reader can only theorise. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

The easiest and quickest 5* I have ever given. I literally finished it a minute ago, and here I am. But what can I say, not very much, because I cannot spoil this for anyone and I really hope that even after the book is launched people do not give any spoilers.
Everyone needs to have the experience of raw -dogging this one! It is absolutely superb.
I went into this slowly, hoping to savour it, but by 25% in, I have not been able to put it down..
I need the second book NOW! What a cliffhanger! How could you, Lee Ann?!?
But I still love you for it, this is how you should feel after reading a book, cliffhanger or not. You should be feeling all the feels!
If you love suspense and spice, this is the book for you.
