Hm, where do I start? There were quite a lot going on but I kinda feel like nothing was really going on at the same time. It was chaotic and some parts were quite dragged out. But it was still good, nonetheless, so..4stars rating does make some sense.
The case...urgh..while the elements of it were interesting, I started to lose interest in the case and its mysteries. It was somewhat predictable(I might say this too soon....) and because I felt like the author was trying the hardest to make it 'interesting', but it does the opposite for me. Which is not good because we are two books in and instead of the case being solved, it got more complicated now that a new theory has appeared.(I mean, are we surprised?) That sly old fox prof Chen though. I knew it. I knew it! Something was fishy about him from the start, and the way he tried to outsmart the polices...he did a decent job, tbh. I really want them to find that damn mask. I have an idea or two about who the actual killer might be but I can be absolutely wrong so hahahahahaha. I really shouldn't say that it's predictable way too soon. I'm totally making a fool out of myself. It's fine. I'm dumb anyway.
The relationship between the two leads were not as flashy and quick like YX and JT. But I have no problem with it. Tbf, the romance really was the last thing on my mind, reading this book. But seeing a glimpse of their feelings being developed was kinda nice. I just wish that it won't be rushed and all of the sudden, they are madly in love with each other. I love that their love language(Can I call it that or is that too soon?) is being spoken through them caring for each other in their own way. And I love how fixated Wuyu is with food because that reminds me so much of Jiang Ting and it's just too freaking cute. My heart broke a little for him when he went through all the emotions, being investigated and contained for his actions at the village. It was a nice touch and I can't wait for more outbreaks. I'm pretty sure we're going to get more because Wuyu really is no different to a caged wild animal. And I love that. I love how his indifferent demeanour can change within seconds. Gotta love ourselves a traumatised boi.
Also where are that shark guy and Qin Shuan???? They just disappear, poof, gone. I really want to know what part they are going to play in this series. And if it turns out they have something to do with the current cult case, that wouldn't surprise me tbh. I experienced it first hand, the ability to tie everything together of this author, in the first series. And it was pretty damn good. Urgh, I can't wait to be proven wrong. Please prove me wrong. Please do not disappoint me. This cult thingy is so disturbing and interesting, I don't want it to go to waste.
