The Rockstar Returns

Rockstar Starter Guide:

1. Get guitar. Get good.
2. Find that girl who drives you out of your damn mind.
3. Make sure that girl refuses to be with you so you’ll have endless material for songs.
4. Get tricked by your brother and her best friend into getting stuck with her in a remote cabin on a stormy night—with only one bed.
5. Decide if it’s better to keep playing your game or risk losing her forever.

Vera Kruger has dyed her hair every color of the rainbow and she’s turned two very important parts of me blue for as long as I’ve known her.

She’s so deep under my skin that she’s a part of me, just like the small town we grew up in. No matter where I go on tour, she’s the one I wish I could come home to. Even if it’s to argue with her about absolutely anything.

When I return to Beacon Harbor for the holidays, I’m not a screwup anymore. I could give her every single thing she won’t admit she needs. Vera thinks we’re too messed up to work together—we just need to get each other out of our systems.
The truth is she is my system.

Now the girl who’s always been hard on me is going to have a hard time getting rid of me.
And I will fight with her every infuriating step of the way until she figures out I’m never going to leave her.

Amazon Top 25 and USA Today bestselling author Kayley Loring spent many years as a screenwriter (under a different name) in Los Angeles before moving to the Pacific Northwest to live out her childhood dream of being a Disney heroine who talks and sings to woodland creatures. When not trying to keep animals alive, she’s writing steamy romantic comedy novels, obviously. She’s breathing cleaner air, writing dirtier words, and staring at her computer screen until her eyeballs dry out instead of prancing around Southern California in miniskirts and going to the hair salon. Still waiting for the woodland creatures to clean her house, though.

Read or listen to Kayley’s books when you want humor, heat, and heart. You’ll enjoy top-notch banter, strong heroines, lovable characters you’d want to know in real life and you’ll swoon over perfectly imperfect book boyfriends. All Kayley Loring books are steamy open door romance. Be sure to check out her next-level audiobooks!

WOW! I am officially in my rockstar romance era. This story is so much fun! I am new to the dynamic author duo of Kayley Loring and Connor Crais, and The Rockstar Returns did not disappoint. Damien and Vera's story has it all—swoon-worthy moments, humor, well-developed characters, wonderful families, lots of sizzling heat, a delicious slow burn, and ultimately, a heartwarming "it's always been you" love story. Certain scenes hit me right in the feels, and I may have even shed a few tears. I loved Damien and Vera but also wanted to yell at them. Vera stole Damien's heart from the start, and I could really feel their connection. Damien and Vera's chemistry was SIZZLING, the tension was THICK, and they had the best banter. I could not help but fall in love with these two. This story truly is phenomenal! I loved the play on song titles for each chapter and The Princess Bride references. The Rockstar Returns is a fun read and I can't wait for more of the Beacon Harbor crew.

Narration:
This audiobook is a masterpiece. Connor Crais and Emma Wilder are amazing. It just doesn't get better than a dual narration by two of the best in the industry. Connor and Emma are the perfect voices for Damien and Vera. Their performances elevated this story to the next level. Emma fully embodies all things Vera, from her sassiness to her vulnerability. Connor was the perfect voice for Damien and fully embodied his dedication to his craft and longing for Vera to be his. Both did well portraying the tension and undeniable chemistry in Damien and Vera's relationship. Bravo!

”Why are you here, Vera?”
“To make your life a living hell.”

When we’re in the mood for a giggle inducing rom com, we know Kayley Loring and Connor Crais will tickle our funny bones. And they didn’t disappoint with The Rockstar Returns the second book in the Beacon Harbor series set in the small town in Maine. It’s a sexy smalltown romance, where two people butt heads and have some spicy interludes.

’I want her so bad, and not having her hurts way too good.’

We loved The Billionaire is Back, the first book in the Beacon Harbor series, and whilst this could be read as a standalone, we urge you to read The Billionaire Is Back to garner a bit of background to Damien and Vera’s story. Not to mention, meeting those sweet little lobsters. That sounds odd, but you’ll know what we mean when you dive in!

Damien Barber, is the slacker brother to Grady (The Billionaire is Back) and Vera Kruger, is best mates with Claire, Grady’s wife. They fancy each other something fierce, but they are both stubborn mules who try to resist the chemistry that crackles between them.

’That’s the thing about Vera – she dreams bigger for me. And I want to become the dream for her.’

Damiens star is on the rise. He’s a gifted musician and after a successful time away touring, he’s back in Maine and back in Vera’s sights. These two thrive on sexy snarky banter and basically driving each other crazy. The barbs and chemistry flies between them. They’re either going to bang each other’s brains out or kill one another.
Vera has driven Damien mad since they were teenagers, and that craziness hasn’t abated over the years. Vera’s always been the one who got under Damien’s skin.

”It’s about the girl I need, the one I’m always searching for. It’s about the girl who has the power to put my heart back together again. Are they all the same girl?”

The banter between these two was so entertaining. Though the running away was pretty frustrating at times.
I loved it.
Getting to see what happened after the lobster racing in the first book was very satisfying and had me cackling all the way through to the bonus epilogue.

Book friends, they have done it again! 𝙺𝚊𝚢𝚕𝚎𝚢 𝙻𝚘𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚐 & 𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚗𝚘𝚛 𝙲𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚜 have brought us another amazingly captivating story with characters I won't soon forget!

I absolutely loved reading 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝑰𝒔 𝑩𝒂𝒄𝒌, so to say I was anxiously awaiting this one is an understatement. I could 𝙣𝙤𝙩 wait to see what these talented authors had in store for Damien and Vera. It was one heck of a rollercoaster ride for sure.

The chemistry between these two is off the charts! I swooned so many times, it's not even funny. Damien is top tier book boyfriend material, and I'm not even mad about it. Vera, bless her. She didn't want to get hurt, but she just couldn't resist the rockstar she was forced to spend time with.

The fact that they've known each other since they were teens, just added to the banter between them. I laughed so many times!!! And when they finally quit resisting the tension & pull they had to each.....well let's just say some fans came on for this reader to cool down!

If you're a fan of only one bed, found families, and small towns, don't miss this one. It's easily read as a standalone but, you gotta read book 1 to see where Vera & Damien started. Once again, 𝙺𝚊𝚢𝚕𝚎𝚢 𝙻𝚘𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚐 & 𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚗𝚘𝚛 𝙲𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚜 have chiseled the perfect romcom to have you laughing out loud!

I usually love Kayley Loring and Connor Crais book but I found this one lacking. The book starts when they're 18 and then jumps to 12 years later, so they are now 30. Damien I liked, but Vera still read like she was an 18 year old. She seemed to lack any emotional/mental maturing. You would think she would have learnt something about herself over that 12 years. The push/pull just became tiresome. Of course they found their HEA, but it took a long time to get there. Beautifully written, just not my favorite.

Ummm excuse me? Is Connor going to be the new Michael Bublé and release a Christmas album? 🤔 Because damn THIS MAN CAN SING.....and I'd totally buy it!
Oh yeah, review.... I love when Kayley and Connor write together. This one definitely pulled at the heartstrings. It was swoon-worthy, funny, so sweet, and the banter was in point 🤌 If you're thinking of reading this one, get 👏 the 👏 audio! 👏 - dual with Connor himself and Emma Wilder. 🤩

4.5 stars!

The second standalone in the Beacon Harbor series, this is a fantastically fun frenemies-to-lovers story that had me laughing out loud and falling in love with these characters and their crazy love story.

Damien and Vera are the brother and best friend of Grady and Claire, the couple from the first book of the series, The Billionaire Is Back. There’s a lot of Grady and Claire in this book, but you could easily read this one as a standalone (just don’t miss the first book because it’s a sensational read).

Anyway… Damien and Vera had feelings for each other in high school and shared one steamy encounter at graduation. Damien thought they were on the verge of becoming more, but Vera was completely closed off to connection with anybody outside of her best friend, and kept him strictly friend-zoned. For years they have danced around each other, completely crazy for each other but not actually together, and channelling all of that sexual tension into an argumentative, flirtatious and banter-filled love/hate relationship which is wildly entertaining.

Vera has experienced devastating loss in her life, and it’s left her scarred. She’s terrified to open herself up anybody else and experience that loss all over again and she flat out refuses to get involved with anybody. Meanwhile, Damien poured his broken heart into music and is making a name for himself, and on the cusp of stardom. When they both return to their small home town for the holidays, they find themselves all up in each other’s space again. And with family and friends doing their best to push them together, the close proximity sparks are flying, and it’s such a fun ride.

God, I love these two together. They don’t hide their attraction, they’re right out there with it, and it forms the basis for most of their bickering. They are constantly at each other and it’s funny and stupid and immature, and I could not get enough!

“Will you get over yourself?”
I pick up my coffee cup. “I am over myself, Kruger.
You get over myself.”
She narrows her eyes at me. Her nostrils flare. It’s hot.

I laughed out loud at the antics, but underneath it all there is sizzling chemistry. They can’t stay away from each other for long, and all of that build-up leads to wildly hot sexy time (oh, so hot!). But while Damien is all in, Vera still holds back. She’s so confused and so scared, and while it does lead to funny moments, my heart hurt for both of them.

“It’s so much easier for you to be mad at me, huh?” It’s barely a question.
“It’s like breathing,” I whisper. Except I can’t even breathe right now, I want him so badly.

As frustrating as it is, Damien accepts Vera for who she is – even with her issues and hang ups. He’s patient and understanding, and beautifully demonstrative with his feelings, and I loved watching him trying so hard to win her heart once and for all.

“I know you’re scared. You think I’m not fucking terrified of how much I want you? … Nobody does this to me but you. Understand? I want you. I want you.”

And even though they’re working through some pretty hard issues, there’s still this sense of easy playfulness between them that is so entertaining.

“It’s so fucking annoying how hot your tits look in that sweater.”
She hooks her thumbs into the belt loops of my jeans. “Your butt is being an asshole in these jeans. Your ass is being passive-aggressive.”
“Well, I’m gonna get aggressive-aggressive with yours later.”

This is a fun read that still manages to bring the feels as these two figure out what they want and find their way forward. It’s sexy and romantic, with lots of funny, laugh-out-loud moments, and I love that such a light-hearted read had so much emotion, and managed to do it without becoming too angsty or frustrating. The pacing felt just right, and the romance is gorgeous as these two finally get their happy ending.

“I’ve got you, babe … I’m not letting you go. You’re stuck with me.”

Loring and Crais prove again that they are a fantastic writing duo. Their voices are so aligned, it’s difficult to tell who wrote what, and I love their storytelling so much.

This is a really fun read, and I’m looking forward to more from the series.

4.5 stars.

This book completely ran away with my heart! The Rockstar Returns by Kayley Loring and Connor Crais was a swoony, spicy, small-town romance that rocked my heart from start to finish. Getting glimpses of Vera and Damien’s love-hate relationship in The Billionaire is Back had me eagerly anticipating how Kayley and Connor would eventually get these two together in their very own love story, and of course they delivered. Vera’s sassy, skittish exterior was so guarded at times, and I’m so glad Damien’s dreamy, charismatic persistence gradually tore down those walls. Vera’s vulnerabilities and doubts were relatable and made you love her even more flaws and all. Damien’s “it’s always been you” mentality was so admirable and irresistible that you couldn’t help but want him to get The Girl who had always been an inspiration and a muse in his life. Plus, Vera and Damien’s tension-filled, undeniable steamy chemistry was HOT right from the start, and I found myself turning page after page until these two finally gave in to temptation.

Overall, I LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a rockstar romance with a hot broody singer, a fiercely devoted talent manager, purple hair, landing new music gigs, Beacon Harbor, family reunions, witty banter, forced proximity, songwriting muses, small island cabins in the snow, explosive steamy times, ugly Christmas sweaters, more lobsters, tour groupies, social media appearances, luring The Girl, harmonious love declarations, and a HEA that will sing to your heart, then you will love Vera and Damien’s story. I always look forward to more from Kayley Loring and Connor Crais.

I adored this book, these characters, and this world! Connor and Kayley have perfected the witty banter with realistic characters that tug at your heartstrings.

This is book 2 in the Beacon Harbor series. KayCo does an excellent job at creating that small town you yearn to live in and characters you want in your life. Don’t we all adore Crabby and his cookies? I need more of this man and his raccoon. Bonus chapters, please!

The audiobook is excellent! Emma freaking Wilder delivers a stellar performance. Her male voice is fantastic! The vulnerability in her delivery will pull at your heartstrings and make you root so hard for Vera and what she’s been through.

Connor nails this one, complete with a fun little song in Latin! He has perfected the swoon-worthy book boyfriend voice and will have you pining for Damien as hard as he pines for Vera.

These two characters have my heart, and I can’t wait until we get more from this world!

This was an audiobook performed by Connor Crais & Emma Wilder ❤️‍🔥

A witty and cozy small town romance, frenemies to lovers to frenemies … to lovers 😮‍💨

When Vera lost her parents 12 years ago, that created a fear of abandonment. So she denied her feelings for Damien, for fear of losing him too … 💔

Damien never stopped having feelings for Vera since that bonfire 12 years ago( insert sticky substance here 🤭🫣)

But she brushed it all away and dismissed their feelings … so he left

Now he is back, and to say that sparks are flying everywhere, setting this town on fire is an understatement 🤭

The banter, the tension, and so many funny moments 😂 the spice will definitely be included in the Sunday Spice episodes 😮‍💨

🌟MUST LISTEN TO THE AUDIO 🌟they brought the characters to life, the jokes were funnier thanks to their performance!!

I forgot to look at the percentage but I didn’t get very far before I returned the book to kindle unlimited. I didn’t like Vera very much in the first book and she didn’t redeem herself at the start of her own book. I just read some reviews and it sounds like her personality doesn’t change so I’m glad I bailed. I have liked other books by KL and CC but this is two DNF in a row. I have an audiobook by KL that I finally DNF - it was a box set so I hated to give up but the characters aren’t particularly likeable in that either and I want to like the main characters.

Kayley Loring and Connor Crais hit all the right notes, creating a story that’s both passionate and heartfelt.

The Rockstar Returns delivers the perfect blend of heat, humor, and heart! The chemistry between Damien and Vera is absolutely electric, pulling me in from the first page with steamy moments that kept me hooked. Damien and Vera burn up on the page!
With a snowy slide they both absolutely stole my heart.

The musical influences woven into the story add a unique and authentic touch, making it feel like you're living those moments with them. A must-read for romance and music lovers alike!

Welcome back to Beacon Harbor.
Who says you can’t go home again? When small town hottie, turned rockstar hero agrees to come home to Beacon Harbor to play at the local bar, he doesn’t plan on rekindling his high school romance. But the more time he spends with Vera, the more his true feelings come to the surface.

3.0 underwhelming stars. This series just hasn't done it for me so far. And I hate that, since I love KL's books. Damien I liked, Vera, not so much. Too immature. Story just dragged.

I love Kayley Loring and Connor Crais, but this book was tough for me.

Third act sort of breakup (very predictable situation guaranteed to cause a problem but the MMC does it anyway, even tho he doesn’t want to), miscommunication/lack of communication, repetitive, no OM/OW drama, but lots of insecurity (both always afraid the other will leave), decent spice. Dual POV

Maybe it’s me, but from the first chapter the whole angst between Vera and Damian was almost painful. The miscommunication and unsaid feelings… for 12 years they didn’t admit to each other how they feel, even when for many of those years they lived near each other??? Oof. Neither seemed to mature very much over the years. She in particular was a difficult character to like.

And then the whole last third was wildly predicable; I was just cringing waiting for it to happen through most of the book.

Vera lost both her parents in a tragic accident as a teenager and she grew up with Damian. He is a musician. They’ve been friends since they were kids, then wanted each other as teenagers and had mutual unrequited feelings as adults. Always circling around each other but never actually sharing directly how they feel. His stardom is on the rise and his best friend is his manager and makes him do things he doesn’t want (fake date starlets, meet and greets, etc). She’s skittish and working for a local venue booking acts (and apparently traveling the world?). It’s very clear that Vera would have an issue with Damian being around all the young fans and have an issue w the fake dating since she’s painfully scared of falling in love with Damien and having him leave her (as her parents did).

I just found it sooo frustrating. He clearly loves her and understands her, but doesn’t actually take action to help her feel safe and secure. Even after she opens up to him and tells her his fears. And then she’s so annoying bc she doesn’t actually tell him not to do some of this stuff that bothers her. I wanted to smack them both.

I skimmed the whole last third. I was so disappointed bc I’ve really loved everything by this author before.

I have recently read some pretty outstanding books. Romances that are a bit different than I typically read and so good, that I found myself slipping into a slump. Not much sounded good, which was concerning since I have a pretty arc heavy month. Well, I don’t know why I was concerned when a @kayleyloring and @connorcrais books was on the horizon. This absolutely brought me out of a possible slump and gave me life. Dramatic? Possibly, but I don’t care. I LOVE THIS BOOK!

After reading the Billionaire is Back, I knew that Damien and Vera’s story was going to be a great one and boy was it! This book has everything I love in a romance: second chance, a sexy, swoony (and I mean SWOONY) rockstar hero, a strong, sassy badass fmc who is also pretty vulnerable, BANTER and chemistry for days, the best found family (I love them) , fabulous side characters and an endearing small town!!

Kayley and Connor’s books never fail to bring the humor and spice and when I tell you the tension was top tier, I am not exaggerating. It was HOT before the spice even truly began. But, in addition to the laugh out loud moments and the HEAT, the story is what really did it for me. Damien and Vera’s longtime connection, their shared love of music and the fear they both carried made this such a tender love story. It was filled with emotion and I found myself tearing up several times.

Listen, I’m a huge fan of Kayley and Connor’s writing. It’s always rock solid. They don’t rely on tropes to tell you a story. They rely on fabulous characters, humor, and a great storyline that leaves ZERO dull moments. PLEASE GIVE THEM A TRY!

🎸I loved his book so much, I’m now listening to the audiobook as I write this review. Connor narrates this himself with @akaemmawilder and it’s already amazing!! If you haven’t experienced a Kayley Loring or Connor Crais audiobook, you are missing out. They are some of my very favorites!!!

🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧
📚The Rockstar Returns by Kayley Loring & Connor Crais
🎤Emma Wilder & Connor Crais

The Beacon Harbor Series Book #2

WOW! The Rockstar has entered the building folks & it's not only Damien but Vera as well.🙌 Welcome to the Hall of Fame! I have never regretted an audio I've listened to from Kayley & Connor. They have such a great vibe in their books with hysterical & witty banter, heartwarming storylines, side characters that leave you in stiches, wonderful family relationships, characters that are crafted perfectly & well developed, nostalgic references that just put a big ol' smile on my face & the heart & HEAT you want in a great romance. This writing duo NEVER disappoints & this book is no exception. It brought me everything I wanted & more.

Vera stole Damien's heart a long time ago. I wanted to slap these two in the face, like in a cartoon, you know, and say...."wake up you knuckleheads & look right in front of you!" They act like they can't stand each but there is nothing further from the truth. The love/hate banter between them is seriously off the charts, crazy good! The pining, the back & forth had me so flippin frustrated. The tension, oh man, the tension was THICK. Thick & tensing. Vera is so afraid to let Damien love her that she uses her sharp, witty comebacks to hide her true feelings. Their connection is absolutely undeniable & electric. They always seem to find themselves right back in each other's lives, for a reason, duh! They're supposed to be together. 🤦‍♀️ (pretend I'm screaming this in frustration!) Damien even says he wants to become THE DREAM for her!!! I mean, what the fetch? Vera darling, HELLO!!!!! She's so worried about keeping her heart from being broken, she's breaking it herself!

It's so fun to revisit the characters from book one. The gangs all here & I was lovin every single minute of it! When Claire & Grady decide they've finally had enough of their shenanigans, I was like, "It's about freakin time someone shake some sense into these two!" Praise be! Damien has been ready to give Vera his whole heart but she's so skittish & scared. But there's nothing like a best friend to set you straight for your own good because they love you & want you to be happy! Yay, Clairebear!🙌

🎧Let's talk narration....because I'm ready to SCREAM about this one ya'll. This audio is absolutely perfect! Connor & Emma completely bewitch you! I'm just gonna say it, Emma's the real rockstar here guys! Hands down, my favorite performance from her. This role was made for her. She is so wickedly talented. I wanted to hug & scream at Vera all at the same time. Not only does she express every vulnerability, hesitancy & skittish thought Vera has but the inner monologue Vera has going on left me with tears streaming down my face from laughing. Brilliant! She's so great at banter, one liners & giving you the perfect voice inflection to deliver every single line. We won't even talk about her AMAZING male voice, Myra the neighbor & at one point she goes from a British accent, to Aussie to Eliza Doolittle & my jaw was on the floor. Hunched over in my chair, my eyes watery like Vera's but for different reasons.😂 Emma's the bees knees ya'll. I LOVE her! With Connor co-writing this, he knows Damien inside & out & he's a rockstar among gods! NGL! Totally embodying Damien, showing off the love & dedication to his craft & the angst & inner turmoil he has had over Vera for years. Talking himself in & out of the relationship. Connor just nails it & you're a goner!☠

This audio is like one EPIC GUITAR solo & you're wanting to crank up the volume while you're listening & just savor the best show you've ever seen! Bravo Kayley & Connor! I cannot recommend this one enough. These two not only KNOW how to write great stories but they KNOW how to make great audios. Flip! I absolutely loved it! Rock on Beacon Harbor🤘

Ever since I met Vera and Damien in The Billionaire is Back  I knew I needed their story.  The Rockstar Returns takes us back to Beacon Harbor and two years have passed. Damien is no longer the slacker lobster racer we came to love but is now an established rockstar -  thanks to some videos posted online by none other than Vera. When his career launches, he wants no one but her to be his manager but she refuses and his best friend, Bryce, takes over and manages to turn him into a household name but also a brand. A brand Damien is not too comfortable with.

Vera has been fleeting around the world now that Claire has lovingly fired her as her assistant. She could have taken the manager job but our skittish girl is afraid. Afraid of the monumental feelings she has for Damien, feelings she can't control as she wants. But she needs him for a concert in Beacon Harbor...

I am absolute sucker for an "it's always been you" romance and these two have loved each other since forever. They have, however, spent a decade scared of facing these feelings. Damien has been pining for Vera since he realized girls existed. She's his everything: his muse, his siren, his home. Vera is so afraid of loss that she only lets herself love Claire. Loving Damien is terrifying.

I loved that Claire and Grady decided they had enough and pushed them into what we had been clamoring for: get together, dammit!! LOL And when they do, oh boy!

Even though they deny it to the death, there is a freaking third act break-up and I swear I wanted to scream at Damien.... and then at Vera... and most of all at Bryce. But I trusted Kayley and Connor and all is well in the end.

This is for everyone who loves a hunky and charming rockstar, a sassy heroine with purple (and all other colors of the rainbow) hair, stray cats, the Barbers, the Sweeneys, being snowed in in a deserted island with the love of your life, Thanksgiving cooking shenanigans, ugly Christmas sweaters, 900-year-old cookie aficionados, helpful neighbors and opening your heart to an HEA that will rock your heart out.

This will be a smashing audiobook!

I can't wait to go back to Beacon Harbor! Who's next?!

Thanks, Kayley and Connor for the opportunity to read this early!

All the big moments and all the little moments came together to make one fantastic book!

It's hard to list just a few things when it's the entire story that's just so darn good. The Rockstar Returns is funny, it's sweet, it's full of great family moments, along with great movie quotes and phenomenal musician mentions. It's touching, it's pining and wanting at the very best levels of what both characters believe is unrequited love. I'm telling you, Kayley and Connor have written their best book yet.❤️🎉✨️

This writing duo brings the perfect comedy timing with the perfect blend of emotional elements every time. Damien is one of the most love-struck adorable rockstars I've ever read and on top of his never-wavering love for Vera he was so down to earth. A lot of it probably has to do with his family and friends, which are a great cast of secondary characters, and most importantly where his mother still treats him like it's just another ordinary day is ...rockstar...please....put on some khaki's and please brush your hair...just like a mom would chastise. 😂 It’s just adorable.🥰

And Vera, her life, is a bit tragic and sad, but has also been filled with the best found family. Basically Damien's, but it has more to do with her best friend marrying Damien's older brother than Damien himself. I know, that sounds - ouch, but there is a long history between these two as well. While she and Damien danced around their feelings, they actually were friends first. Vera just has a habit of running away when the feelings get too much and given her past it makes sense.

The cat and mouse game Damien and Vera play is hilarious and at times emotional, but I love how Kayley and Connor write together to bring out the playful side right alongside the emotional. Their books are always fun and I never want them to end.

But all in all, I adored Damien and how much he loved Vera. I also loved how uncommitted, yet also committed Vera was to everything in her life. I loved their entire family. I loved their inside jokes, their stubbornness for each other and basically everything else contained inside this story. Like I keep saying, I really, really loved The Rockstar Returns ❤️😍🥰

Okay, there is only one way to describe this book—a ROCKIN' good time! The chapter titles are plays on well-known song titles or lyrics, and the rock references throughout the book cover all the genres of music (but mostly rock). The Beatles, The Who, The Clash—it was a cornucopia of rock references that made this classic rock girlie swoon. It was delightful to be back in Beacon Harbor; all the unique and funny characters from the Billionaire is Back made appearances to make us giggle. I do have a question, though: the chapter about Muhammed Clawee and Clawdia Schiffer, couldn't that have used something from Rock Lobster?

Vera has an understandable fear of love and abandonment; Damien has been in love with her forever. Their sparring is delectable. So much dodging, bobbing, and weaving. Their mating dance should be on Wild Kingdom. Sir Richard Attenborough could narrate all that went on in their dance, which would get millions of views on YouTube. They were sublime. I loved every second of their conversations and the self-talk that narrated these exchanges. I laughed out loud so many times. When you add the Sweeney and Barber families, we have quirks right up there with Mom and Pops Brody (if you haven't read the Brody Brothers, you may want to get on that). Oh, and let's not forget Chester and Moonsong, the line, "Chester!" Moonsong yells. "Energies were aligning!" was EPICALLY AWESOME!

Damien, a successful rocker now, is still pining for THE GIRL. That girl, Vera Kruger, is so conflicted and paralyzed by fear but still manages to pull off cool to such a level that you can't hold anything against her. Their personalities are perfect, and the artist and his muse entertain and pluck heartstrings. I can't say anything about the plot because to do so would spoil the delight of reading this romcom. Be prepared for epic plays on words, fantastic rock references (yes! Robert Plant's name was dropped!), laugh-out-loud humor, and sweetly spicy scenes (RAWR!)

Read it!!

Thank you, Kayley Loring and Connor Crais for the eArc and for yet again making me write a long review because you two write such darn good books. Oh! These are my opinions and I am grateful for the authors including Led Zeppelin references.

After having read The Billionaire Is Back earlier this year I was so happy that we were getting more from this world! I always get so happy whenever this duo announces a new book. I immedtaley started looking forward this second installment. I picked it up and headed right back to Beacon Harbor. I enjoyed this story so much!

Damien and Vera's journey pulled me in! They've been in each other's lives for many years and so have the sparks since graduation between these two frenemies, but that's it. Now, Damien is making his rockstar dreams a reality and Vera is seeing the world. When the holidays come around, it brings Damien and Vera back to Beacon Harbor and they wind up having to stay in a cabin together. Could this lead them to taking a chance on their hearts with each other?

Both Damien and Vera got me right into their story. I so enjoyed the fact that these two had known each other for quite some time and the way they were brought closer together. I didn't know how these two would tackle staying in the cabin together, things in their lives, and their feelings for one another which all got me even more into their story. Their interactions were always so entertaining!

From their lives to their feelings, Vera and Damien were so real to me! I was so glad that I got to dig deeper with both of these characters and connect with them. It wasn't easy for these two. I went through such a range of emotions with Vera and Damien from beginning to end. These two got to each other in so many ways that only they could. Their chemistry was truly undeniable! I absolutely loved that Damien's songs were for Vera and how it had me all heart eyes! 😍

I was so glad to be back in Beacon Harbor and reunite with some familiar faces! Once again, I could picture everything so clearly in my mind throughout reading. I couldn't get enough of the music aspect!

With The Rockstar Returns, Ms.Loring and Mr.Crais have created such a great page turner that had me going through all kinds of emotions! Just like listening to a favorite song, you don't wanna stop reading once you've started it. This duo always knows how to make me smile and have my heart feeling so much! I can't wait to read what they bring our way next! Definitely check out the Beacon Harbor books. 💙🎸🦞

We're back in Beacon Harbor, Maine with the second book in the Kayley Loring and Connor Crais penned small town romance series the shares the same name as the quaint yet quirky place the main characters consider home. If you've read the series starter, The Billionaire Is Back, then it say it's impossible for you to have missed Damien Barber and Vera Kruger. He's the younger brother of Grady, the aforementioned billionaire of the previous novel; she's the best friend of Claire Sweeney, the baker who stole Grady's heart. You'll also recall that Grady encouraged Damien to finally pursue his music, and with a bit of help from the former, the latter has made it. Yup, two years since the events of book one, I can know say that Damien is the aforementioned rockstar in the title of book two.

At eighteen, Damien Barber knew the things: music was his life and Vera Kruger was the girl. Twelve years later, he's blazing a trail in the music industry and Vera is still the girl. She isn't, however, his girl. She made it clear all those summers ago that she wasn't willing to pursue anything other their frenemy-ship. So, they continue to play the weird game where they pretend to feel nothing but disdain for each other. The back and forth between them may have been entertaining, but after all these years, it seems it's getting to them. Maybe some time away will be good, and Damien's brother and Vera's bestie wholeheartedly agree. By "away", Damien and Vera thought "apart", but who would have thought the billionaire brother and the baker bestie wanted to add "matchmaker" to their résumé? One cabin, one bed, one storm. It may all lead to these two actually giving in and admitting their feelings, but will they be able to have their happily-ever-after afterwards?

Readers familiar with the Beacon Harbor series know that Damien and Vera work well as a team, as proven by their lobster training skills. But now, it's clear that they can make beautiful music together as well, as long as they get out of their own way. There are legitimate reasons for why they had their hesitations, especially Vera. There was A LOT of back and forth, hemming and hawing, and taking one step forward and two steps back with these two, but once they took that leap, I literally said "Hallelujah!" out loud. At times, I worried over the immature bickering and one-upmanship, but that was part of this system that they had set up in order to manage the simmering feelings between them. Damien has truly come into his own in this book. He loved Vera, accepting her for who she was, supporting her in anything and everything she wanted. He gave Grady a run for his money as a book boyfriend, and he finally got his runaway girl. All in all, The Rockstar Returns was a hilarious read with countless heartwarming moments. 4.5 stars!

To me Kayley Loring books are the epitome of RomCom… they absolutely crack me up with the banter, the funny terms used and don’t get me started on the chapter headings 😂🤩
I started reading the book as an arc but I have to confess I wanted to experience some of it for the first time in audio so I finished it in audio then went back and listened to it all 🤣 Connor Crais (who co wrote it with Kayley) is superb as is Emma Wilder!
Loved being back in Beacon Harbour with the lobsters and the quirky characters but these two Damion and Vera, finally stop the dancing around and running and realise they really are perfect together.
5 ⭐️ from me as books by Kayley and Connor are definitely my guilty pleasure and as I’m originally from Liverpool I loved all the links to the Beatles 🫶
Definitely recommended!

Rockstar Starter Guide:
🎸Get guitar. Get good.
🎸Find that girl who drives you out of your damn mind.
🎸Make sure that girl refuses to be with you so you’ll have endless material for songs.
🎸Get tricked by your brother and her best friend into getting stuck with her in a remote cabin on a stormy night—with only one bed.
🎸Decide if it’s better to keep playing your game or risk losing her forever.

📚Story review📚
This isn’t your typical rockstar romance. Instead of focusing on the usual points of fame and promiscuity, The Rockstar Returns centers on a single, intense connection. Damien is devoted and passionate, making for a romance that’s as hot, fun, and melodic, as it is heartfelt.

Vera’s far more complex than I initially perceived. Seeing this new dimension to her added so many fresh layers and made me love her more than I ever would have thought I could.

The dynamic between Vera and Damien is electric. Their banter is spectacular and I loved all of their inner monologue as they play their head games. They have a near telepathic connection that creates such an entertaining push and pull. The playful poking and prodding between them only deepen their bond, showcasing their chemistry that I just couldn’t get enough of. This story delivers on so many levels, blending sharp banter with rich lovable and charming characters. I loved it!

✨🎧Audiobook Review🎧✨
Emma's talent truly shines in this audio! She brings such versatility to her characters, from her fantastic portrayal of crabby Crawford to her flawless British and Australian accents. She has an absolutely swoon worthy man voice that give Connor a run for his money and captures every bit of Vera’s vulnerability. Emma's performance is nothing short of spectacular.

Connor on the other hand, delivers a pitch-perfect rockstar performance, hitting all the right emotional notes. His voice is magnetic, and the fact that he sings adds a special touch. Did I listen to it more than once? Absolutely, and I won’t even deny it. This audio felt like a gift.

**These are my own honest thoughts that I have provided voluntarily. I purchased this audiobook.

I still haven’t recovered from Damien Barber! I finished reading The Rockstar Returns a couple of days ago but couldn’t quite figure out how to put my love for this book into words. It is a wonderfully written, funny, sweet, swoony love story about a rockstar and his hometown muse who was always around but just out of reach.

Damien and Vera grew up together in the quaint town of Beacon Harbor, Maine where they were always the cool kids - and yet always manage to lose every bit of that cool when it comes to each other. Damien is talented, gorgeous and going places as an upcoming rockstar. Vera has been his muse all these years without even realizing that his songs are about her. She’s smart and sassy with a beautiful, sad heart that has known loss. I may be in lust with Damien, but I love Vera to death! She is bold but not quite brave, and the way she narrates things like a documentary voice-over is both funny and touching. These authors write the wittiest banter and create the steamiest tension, but they are also gifted at weaving in moments of heartfelt tenderness. They make us feel a touch of heartache one second and then laugh before the tears have actually fallen. The best kind of romance, if you ask me!

I read romance because I know that the characters will get their happy ending (most of the time). It’s the journey that these two take and how invested I was in them that makes this one so incredibly good. It is filled with special friendships, wonderful families, endless humor, tattoo stories, a wintery snow globe look at life, a stray cat with a cool name, great pop culture references (as always! – this time with The Princess Bride, an all-time favorite of mine), clever song-themed chapter titles, and so much longing. The anticipation throughout was as delicious as Damien! He breaks rules, melts hearts and makes us fall in love with him right along with Vera.

“Even when I’m trying not to write songs about her, I’m writing songs about her.”

The Rockstar Returns was emotional, witty and not at all what I was expecting, but I loved Damien and Vera’s heart-tugging romance. These two were IT for each other; they just needed to get over themselves and admit it to one another. I was so here for their up and down journey.

“Every song I’ve ever written has been about you, Vera. Even the ones that aren’t supposed to be about you were busy being not about you.”

Damien has grown so much since we last saw him. He’s now a world famous rock star with the world at his feet, but all he truly wants is his One, Vera. I loved how he was so sure of his feelings, but he was so scared of being rejected that his defenses were still up.

“Everything I’m feeling, it’s all for him. No one has ever, ever made me feel so alive. And I want to slap him for it.”

Vera was such a firecracker, but after losing her parents, she’s desperately afraid of losing anyone else that she cares about. She refuses to admit attachment and she pushes away everything that she wants in life except her best friend. She’s always had feelings for Damien but she’s terrified that he won’t stay.

“She’s the tonic. She’s home for me. She was the first note in the love song for my life. On some level, I’ve always known I have to come back to her. But I also never want this love song to end.”

The push and pull relationship between Vera and Damien is absolutely epic. These two are so stubborn and so scared of their feelings that I didn’t think they would ever admit them to each other. Full of charm, witty banter, off the charts heat and it’s always been you vibes, The Rockstar Returns was a delightful read that was full of heart, heat, and humor.

The Rockstar Returns
Beacon Harbor, Book 2
By: Kayley Loring, Connor Crais
Narrated by: Connor Crais, Emma Wilder

Beacon Harbor! I couldn't wait to get back to the lobsters and after book one, I was intrigued with Damien and Vera. There had to be more to these two, both together and separately. After that one night, destiny would have to intervene. But does she? Years later, Damien till pines after the one who stole his heart, and when he he returns to Beacon Harbor, he is determined to show her just how much he has changed. No longer the screw up, he makes his play, but it's not that easy. Vera is a tough nut to crack. Always changing her look, reinventing herself, she has proved to be a successful woman. Hurt as a teen, she has no intention of ever getting too close to someone, and Damien is the one who continually tries to break down the walls. Well, the best thing to do is run, right? Packed with humor and spice, this romance has it all. Connor Crais and Kayley Loring have a chemistry when it comes to their writing. Each scene is so good, grabbing my attention and either brings a smile to my face or a tear to my eye. I loved Damien and Vera's story, it flows fast and I could not stop listening. Adding in the amazing love song, this runaway girl is about to get caught!

Emma Wilder and Connor Crais bring all the joy alive in this one. Wilder is Vera, and her take on this character is spot on. Lots of attitude and spunk, she hides her fear of being left, and creates a woman who needs her man. Crais is Damien, and his appeal is impossible to ignore! His vulnerability is heart wrenching at times, the desperation for Vera, and the love he has pours out in Crais's voice. And Christmas is a treat! This collaboration is so good, it's a book you don't want to miss.

The Rockstar Returns is an addictive slow burn, friends to lovers romance. Damien and Vera have been each other's person since high school. Damien had a habit of messing things up, and Vera has lost those she loves most. So when they give in and share a kiss, they step back, afraid to lose the only person they can't live without. Twelve years later, Damien and his band are making it big, and touring. Vera is also traveling, finding new musical talent. When they are in the same place at the same time, Damien needs his muse, but is afraid to push her knowing she will run again. When the hometown bar that started it all for him, wants him to play there and have Vera plan it, Damien knows he has one chance to convince her that they are soulmates. But can he convince her that they are meant to be together forever? I fell so hard for Damien and Vera. Their relationship was so beautiful that everyone saw they were soulmates but them. Their fear of losing each other and ignoring their feelings was a bit frustrating at times, but their growth and Damien's gesture made him totally swoon worthy. I also loved all the friends and family that were so supportive and essential in this story as well. They were all honest and quirky and added so much fun to this story.
Connor Crais and Emma Wilder were so perfect as Damien and Vera. Crais embodied Damien's musical soul along with his frustration and passion, and Wilder nails Vera's fears and vulnerabilities masked behind her spirited personality. They both have a great range of voices, accents, and emotion that easily captured my heart as they brought these characters and story to life. This is truly a beautiful, heartwarming love story wrapped up in a hilarious, witty, and sexy bow!

🎸 Read if you like: Only one bed, forced proximity, rockstar romance, small towns, second chances, fiery banter.

📚 Imagine being stuck with the one person who has always driven you wild—on a stormy night, in a remote cabin, with only one bed to share. The Rockstar Returns delivers all the tension and heat you'd expect when Damien, the reformed bad boy rocker, and Vera, the woman who’s always been in his heart (and under his skin), are forced together after years of push and pull.

👨‍👧 Damien is the ultimate swoon-worthy rockstar—charismatic, persistent, and deeply in love with Vera, even if she doesn’t see it yet. He’s no longer the screwup from their past, but will it be enough to convince Vera to take a chance on him? Vera is strong, independent, and terrified of getting hurt, but her connection with Damien is undeniable, no matter how much she fights it. Their banter is electric, and every interaction keeps you hooked.

💞 The chemistry between these two is off the charts! Years of hitory have built up the tension, & when they finally let go of their reservations… let’s just say things heat up quickly. The slow burn turns into a full-blown blaze, & their romance is as intense as it is inevitable.

👧 The side characters—like Damien’s brother and Vera’s best friend—add depth and humor to the story. Their well-intentioned meddling is what brings Damien and Vera back together, & they help balance out the emotional rollercoaster these two are on.

✍️ Kayley Loring and Connor Crais have done it again! Their writing is a perfect mix of humor, heart, and heat. The dialogue is sharp, the pacing is spot-on, & the story keeps you invested from the first page to the last.
