Malevolent

Rate this book
Detective Inspector Ray Ennis doesn’t believe in evil. He certainly doesn’t believe the claim of a serial killer that all his victims were members of an evil cult and that an abomination lurks beneath the glittering skyscrapers of the City of London, but...

…when a dismembered torso with evidence of ritual sacrifice washes up in the Thames, Ray quickly finds his professional and personal lives unravelling. Elizabeth Russell, a ‘Regulator’ from the Treasury, seems intent on blocking his investigations, while his daughter, Chloe, is plagued by screaming nightmares that are seeping into reality. And who is the old man in the trench coat, who always seems to be nearby, watching Ray’s family and seething with hate?

With the emerging truth challenging his beliefs and his sanity, can Ray put the pieces together before darkness and chaos overwhelm his family? Is there something truly malevolent in the heart of London? And if there is, how can he confront it?

Save your time

This book starts out in an exciting and interesting way. But it goes off of the rails very quickly. The main character is an obnoxious d-bag and he only gets worse. And the author is trying to be Melville in his own lame way. Just tell a freaking story! And the other characters aren't much better. This could have been a really good book, but the author got in his own way.

This book t-boned me; I was taken aback and very pleasantly surprised. These were some of the most vibrant characters I have ever come across in my search for high quality reads. Like any great work, the only disappointment was not having this story continue after I turned the final pages. Unbelievably well-written; I highly recommend this book and author!

Unputable down

From the beginning till the end I had to keep reading The only thing that was obvious was that Emma was a disciple when she was looking at Andys catheter and when she delayed Ray from going home.

Fantastic read

Liked strong female characters, the plot and the twisted tale of otherworldly monsters. Can't wait for his next book. Hopefully Bess, Ray and Chloe feature in the next one. I hope it goes to a series

enjoyed a new genre

First book read for a while, and thought I’d try a different genre. Normally I would read thrillers, mysteries or historical fiction.
A bit of a slow burn to start with but after the first few chapters it really drew me in. A bit gory in places but a good read.

Horror! Thriller! Adventure!

This book has it all and I couldn't put it down! The characters are clearly presented, the plot has some nice little mystery to it and it's got everything you need for a rainy day with some cocoa. Highly recommend!

What an awesome read!

Fantastic twists and turns, brilliantly written with dark, wonderfully grotesque moments.
Great characters, constant tension, and the funny bits sprinkled throughout land perfectly. A gripping read from start to finish 🙌🙌🙌

Rough read!

This was a hard book to finish! I felt like it was dragged out unnecessarily and didn't really explain the treasury. In honesty surprised I finished this.

This was a brilliant book, I absolutely loved it. It had a bit of everything, monsters, witches and a story line which didn’t relent. Would recommend this wholeheartedly

Great story idea it's just poorly written. There's a lot of extra story line that's holding the story back from making me want to keep turning the pages.

Not Recommended

I read about 35% of this book before giving up. All of the female characters (with the exception of the child) were written as unable to think for themselves, reduced to their looks, and desperate to impress the men in the book.

Bloody good time! I did have some difficulty with the disconnect between American English and UK English, but aside from that what a phenomenal novel! I already know I won't be getting any sleep tonight after reading this so on to the second book!
