A rising wave of suicides. A string of unexplained symptoms. And a secret weapon that was never meant to be unleashed. In the Enemy Within, Greg Player delivers a chilling medical thriller where science turns sinister.
When brilliant neuroscientist Miles Chambers dies under mysterious and horrifying circumstances, his suicide appears to be just another tragedy, until others begin to exhibit the same terryifying crushing fatigue, paranoia, physical pain, and a slow descent into madness.
Claire Long, still reeling from the loss of her twin sister, begins to suspect a deeper connection between her sister's unraveling and the quiet epidemic spreading through the lives of strangers. Together with Jack Baker, a biochemist battling his own rapid decline, they must trace the source before it consumes them both.
But the truth is more dangerous than they imagined, an experimental neuro-weapon designed to dismantle the human mind, now possibly unstoppable.
Taut, intellegent, and disturbingly plausible, The Enemy Within is a dystopian thriller for fans of medical susupense, psychological unraveling, and high-stakes conspiracies with consequences far beyond the laboratory.
The Enemy Within by Greg Player is a fast-paced, exciting thriller that kept me hooked from the first page. The story is full of twists and turns, and just when I thought I had it figured out, something new surprised me.
One of the most chilling parts is the virus at the center of it all—a weapon that doesn’t just attack the body, but destroys people’s will to live. It’s such a unique and terrifying idea, and it makes the whole story feel even more intense. It’s scary to think that something like this could actually happen.
If you like thrillers with great characters, smart writing, and a plot that keeps you guessing, this book is a must-read. I couldn’t put it down. Definitely a five-star read!
Not my usual genre but pretty good. It's about a psychologist who lost her sister and her best friend to a deadly virus developed by the government as a biological weapon. Problem is the government used it on its own citizens. Goes into a lot of medical detail which is one of the things I enjoyed about it. As a retired RN, it was accurate as far as what was causing the symptoms of the virus. Interesting characters. No big surprises but a decent read all the same.
An exciting page-turner with a pace that never stops and a plot that’s just realistic enough to feel true. Great characters and a perfect ending. Warning: don’t read this at bedtime if you need to get to sleep, because you’ll be up all night turning pages to find out what happens next!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was exciting, suspenseful and compelling. The characters were all so realistic and relatable that I put certain actors into the story as I imagined a movie based on this book. I would highly recommend “The Enemy Within” for any fiction reader
The author’s medical background brings so much authenticity to the story, especially around the brain science, and the characters are so real and memorable. It’s smart, emotional, and completely gripping from start to finish.
What a hidden gem! I can’t believe this book isn’t more popular!! I absolutely love the way this book portrays slowly going insane. I really hope this author writes more adult novels!!
Just an outstanding medical thriller. An engineered virus that “escapes” before an antidote is developed.
Character development makes you feel like you really know them. Just when you think you have it figured out, another twist and turn. Really keeps you guessing.
First book I’ve read from Greg Player, but will definitely look for others.
