Eastshore Isle #4

My Orc Silver Fox

Rate this book
I thought my one-night stand with a hot older guy was just a rebound, but it left me with a memento that could ruin my life…or perfect it?

My whole life, I’ve been the perfect perfect hair, perfect body, perfect grades, perfect career. Of course my mother would choose the perfect fiancé for me! Thank God I wised up in time and dumped the jerk, but maybe I shouldn’t have jumped into bed with the first hottie who winked at me.

But how was I supposed to resist? Yeah, he’s an orc, and he’s muscled and tatted and definitely the take-charge kind of guy…exactly what I love. Little did I realize, when I snuck out of his bed, that he’d left me with a present.

Now I’m pregnant and hiding from my mistakes with my sister on Eastshore Isle, worried that I’ve ruined my perfect life…and I come face-to-face with Giza again.

When fate—or more accurately, my meddling little sister—throw us together, I’m hard-pressed to maintain the I can do it all myself attitude I’ve kept up my entire life, especially with the way Giza is so desperate for the chance to know his child. And the more time I spend with him, the more I come to suspect…I don’t always have to be perfect.

This feel-good, low-angst, high-heat cozy romance features the following Age gap, not-quite-secret baby, only one bed, smokin' hot silver fox, adorable small-town (of course), lots of humor, lots of heat!

Veronika Kane is the monster-loving alter-ego of USA Today Bestselling Author Caroline Lee. One of Caroline's favorite genres to read is SciFi Romance, which led her to monster romance. When she discovered it was possible to set big, buff, delicious monsters in contemporary cozy small towns, she was sold. And that's how she ended up with a new pen name and a new series.

Welcome to the town of Eastshore Isle, the only beach town on the east coast experiencing negative population growth. You know who's going to help save the town? That's right; super-sexy, laugh-out-loud orcs.

Just like Caroline's HistRomComs, except greener.

My Orc Silver Fox by Veronika Kane
Eastshore Isle series #4. Paranormal monster romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series. Age gap. First person, alternating POV.
Harper returns to Eastshore Isle after taking a leave of absence from her partnership at a law firm. She’s rethinking a lot of her life and making decisions for her future. Harper was always pressured by her mother to be the perfect daughter, have a perfect body, hair, grades, career, and husband. But after spending time with Meli on Eastshore Isle and seeing how happy she was with her new Orc husband, Harper rebelled. She dumped her fiancé that had been picked by her mother, and the night of her sister’s wedding had a one-night stand with a sexy silver fox. Fourteen weeks later, Harper is back on the island, pregnant and exhausted. Once Meli’s Orc husband finds out who the father is of Harper’s baby, he sends her to him. Family is important to the Orcs.
Giza is shocked when Harper turns up pregnant. He never expected to be lucky enough to have another mate, let alone a child. Orcs and humans biologically can’t have children unless they are fated mates which means everything to Giza. He’s always been considered the elder of the group, keeping the stories of home and culture alive for the other orcs. Now he’ll be able to pass that knowledge to a son.
Harper and Giza need to reconcile their relationship and figure out their future. Together. Good thing they are extremely compatible and willing.

I admit, I was really pissed at Cairo for kicking Harper out of his house and making sure she and Giza were together. But clearly, there are feelings and a future. So okay. But I’m not liking him anymore.
High heat, low angst, small town romance that you will want to read in one steamy session. Humor, romance, attraction, sexy times and hea: perfection.

Weeks after a one night stand with a groomsman at her sister’s wedding, Harper finds herself with a lasting souvenir from that very satisfying night. In leave from her law firm, she’s back on Eastshore Isle to sort some things out. A town hall meeting turns into a very public gender reveal and reunion with the sexy orc baby daddy.

Tattoo artist and keeper of orc lore Giza is stunned to learn his dalliance with the unforgettable blonde resulted in an impending orc miracle. When Harper runs from him after mistaking his protectiveness for anger, Giza invites her to stay with him for a month and pulls out all the stops to convince her they belong together.

This was another sexy, fun read in the Eastshore Isle qseries. Each story paints more of the orcs’ backstory and adds layers to the world Veronika Kane has created. If you love alphas with soft underbellies and lots of steam, you’ll love this series. It’s not necessary to have read any of the prior novels to this one.

I was very lucky to have been furnished an advance reader copy from the author and bookfunnel, and I’m happy to share my honest review.

terrific Monster Romance

I am somewhat new to Monster Romance and new to this author as well, this is the second Monster Romance that I have read and the second book by this writer.

I enjoyed the combination of humour and smut in this book, just like I did in the other book that I read by this writer.

I recommend this series and I am going to read more of the books in this series.

I'll take it.. Harper was interesting.. her being raised to be "perfect" really fucked with her head but also made her kind of annoying at times. But I appreciate that HEA was approved because Giza deserved it.

Mixed bag of feelings about this book (hence taking two months to read it because I needed a really long cool down break and wasn't sure I would go back), and it's all because of how the author chose to go about moving the plot forward to where she wanted it... let's just open the can of worms, shall we?

My major issue was how Cairo threw Harper out of 'his' house and how Harper's sister, Melinda, his wife, lets him. Like, that's your sister-in-law, wtf? Like, that's your SISTER, WTF?!? Why would you let him do that??? If my man ever tried to pull that kind of crap on me I would have tossed his a$$ out. And if he refused to leave, I'd leave with my sister and if push came to shove and we couldn't find a hotel, B&B or friend's place to crash I'd sleep in my car at the ferry station and just leave for the mainland in the morning and then stay there until he came crawling. Absolutely not! You do NOT treat family that way (under circumstances like these)!

It's a shame cause Cairo was pretty decent in his book, respectful, not demanding Melinda moves into his f***ing house, but in this one he's basically an a$$hole who suddenly DOESN'T respect the autonomy of a woman. Like what the actual f**k? It makes him look VERY two-faced. Author obviously did this for the sake of moving the plot forward rapidly, but I'm not here for it. If there had been communication and persuasion from Cairo and Giza, I would have been more okay with it. But no, let's boot her out to save 20 pages.

Other then that the book was pretty good. I'm not into 'silver foxes' but I can respect some might be. Giza is absolutely a hot silver fox. Tattoos don't do anything for me, but I respect it might for some. I don't particularly like a bossy man in the bedroom, but I respect some people do and the author actually did it in a nice, respectful way. Not like those poorly written millionaire boss books I have repeatedly DNF'd. Giza was never an a-hole in the bedroom. He took control and even used it to help Harper realize that she is perfect just the way she was, however she chose to be. He gladly relinquished control when Harper seemed to want it in the bedroom and was a pillar of what a supportive spouse looks like in and outside of said bedroom.

Honestly Giza saved the book from the DNF pile. I didn't mind Harper, but she wasn't soemone I was super invested in. Most of my respect went to Giza for always being supportive and respectful. I did mind the author changing the behaviour of previous book characters for the sake of an easier plot. (Yes I am still on about that) Cairo and Meli's about face at the start, just to revert back (Cairo was pretty much ignored and shoved into the background without further spoken lines after he served his antagonist purpose), to their actual supportive characters once they were used to push the plot where the author wanted it. Meli's and Harper's mother who did a complete about face because Giza has manners and Harper is giving her a grandchild (their father barely had anything to do with anything this book so I'm not sure why he was there other then to follow along after his wife). Anyways, I don't like it when characters change to ease the plot without any explanation. Like, if their mom said she simply went to therapy to help with her control issues, okay, I'm in. But she didn't, so I wasn't.

Spicy-wise, it was good. Better than good, the spice was excellent in this book. Better I'd say, then several others I've read in this series. Though it wasn't quite my...flavour, per say, it was well done and done right so it didn't give me the ick.

So if you are fine with personality shifts just to move the plot, you probably won't mind this. If you like older, man bun wearing, tattooed, respectful, supportive male characters, you'll love this one. If you like a respectful, but 'bossy' type men in the bedroom, you'll love this one. If you like pregnancy trope, self discovery type romances, you'll love this one. If you like a good mirror scene, you'll love this one.

"My Orc Silver Fox" is book four in the "Eastshore Isle" series by Veronika Kane. Harper and Giza had a one night stand, and Harper ended up pregnant. Now Harper doesn't know what to do at first because Giza is older than her and he is an orc. Harper also has a life outside of Eastshore and has to figure out if she should stay on Eastshore or head back to the main land. My favorite scene was when Giza and Harper were at the doctors office. Giza is such a loving mate and wants what is best for his mate and "kit." I have been enjoying Veronika's series on orcs and love coming back to Eastshore Isle.

I have enjoyed this series so much. I wish I could live on Eastshore Isle.

Harper was introduced in a previous book. She has changed a lot! Her mother has planned out so much of her life. She was the "perfect" child. She had the career and fiancée. Her plan is thrown off at her sister's wedding when she spends the night with an Orc. Harper and Giza need to work out so many things since she is his mate and is expecting their child.

This series has been so much fun to read. I already preordered the next book.

This was a sweet story where tjese.two find love unexpectedly. The FMC is learning how to live for herself, not to meet the expectations of others.

Not the best in the series

While I've thoroughly enjoyed the other books in the series and rated them 5 stars, this one just kinda fell flat. I was a bit disappointed in how the fmc was treated in the beginning. She found the stranger whom fathered her baby and is nervous, her sisters mate immediately yells at her and kicks her out of the house, telling her to go to her baby's father's house. She just does that without question and everyone acts like that was normal and fine.

Gah! Giza finding his mate in a completely chaotic and unplanned way was a great twist on the mating of orcs on Eastshore Isle. The woman he’s mated to is prickly as hell though and I can’t for the life of me figure out why she was so against having Giza as her mate. Let alone why she was determined to keep him out of their kids life. He was so patient and more than understanding. I would have been fed up with her shit in no time. But he stuck it out to the end. The FMC is damn lucky.
I also love the continuing development of the Isle in general. You hear about the couple featured in the story, but you’re also getting updates on the other couples and who is taking on new and different roles. I’m exited to read Shaakar’s story next!

This was a great book!

Steamy and sweet!

I loved Harper’s growth

I also loved seeing Giza’s big heart (especially with his baby daughter, Raina!)

Read if you love one night stands to more, baby tropes, and growing in confidence after a bad relationship.

TW: (if you want to skip this book) self/centered parent, negative thoughts of pregnancy, and some anxiety around having a family due to eldest child struggles.

Best quotes:
Exce
“I braced my palms and dropped my head, but that position only served to remind me of the way she’d tried to soothe my aching muscles. She’d cared. She’d been caring for me, the way I wanted—no, needed to care for her.
We were well-matched.
We had similar taste in books, crosswords, and dinner menus. Our conversations were never boring, and clearly, we both had the same will to protect our loved ones.
Loved ones?
Did I love Harper O’Donnell?
She was my Mate. She carried my kit. How could I not love her?”
Awww 🥰 Giza is such a dork 😂
I love him!!

“Giza was my Mate.
So why couldn’t I?
He was kind and gentle and brilliant and thoughtful. He wanted nothing but the best for me and bent over backward to make sure I had it. He was the most amazing lover, and seemed to understand me in a way I didn’t always understand myself.”

Without thinking, I bent down and placed a kiss on the back of his neck, on the skin between his collar and his hairline. The skin I’d just been massaging, just been stroking. It was a light kiss.
It wasn’t enough.
I kissed him again, then again, a trail of kisses leading to his ear. I wanted to kiss the pointed tip.“

4.75 stars. Giza, the male older orc lead, was sent with a delegation of orcs to this realm as the designated lore holder. His job has been to remember their history and share it for future generations. He never expected to find a mate, expecting that boat had sailed.

Harper, the female human lead, is a successful lawyer, now partner in a firm, and her mother’s “perfect” child. She’s the older sister of the female lead in My Orc (Fake) Boyfriend, and she had a rebound one night stand with an orc at her sister’s wedding. It shouldn’t have had any repercussions but it has. Taking time to work out what she’ll do, Harper visits her sister.

When Giza finds out she’s pregnant, he’s shocked and thrilled - only true mates can create a baby. Now he needs to convince her that she wants to relocate her life to his little island paradise - or, at least, that she wants to let him be part of her big city world…

This story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, contemporary fantasy, age gap romance. I enjoyed Giza’s dedication to his craft, and his willingness to love Harper in whatever way she would accept. I empathised with Harper’s concerns and enjoyed the character development that saw her perspective change on what perfect meant and what it might look like for her. I enjoyed the deeply intimate scenes that contributed to the developing relationship. I enjoyed the way Giza supported Harper’s personal choices even when they didn’t appear to suit him.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

Such a great addition to the Eastshore Isle series!

Here are the things I loved:
1. I love age gap/silver foxes, especially when they are big softies with a bunch of tattoos! Giza is definitely my second favorite behind Sakkara!!!

2. I think I’m coming around on the unexpected pregnancy trope. I don’t hate it, but I definitely feel there are ways I like to see it done and ways I don’t. Kane did a great job with the trope in this one. I didn’t feel like there were any of the normal pitfalls of the trope in this book, and I feel like the couple came together early enough in the book that it didn’t drag on with a bunch of drama. I think the idea that only a mated couple can actually conceive totally sold me on the trope as well!

3. I love how these men do anything for their mates. It was even called out that once they find their mates, they will do anything for them. Fictional men > nonfictional men 99% of the time 😊

4. Loved all the Meli (book 2 FMC and Harper's sister) we got. She was just as hilarious as always.

5. I loved the balance the author struck with Harper being a total baddie but also being relatable. She is a perfectionist and a control freak, but she wasn’t portrayed as unbearable, which is a tight rope to walk. Kane did it well though.

6. I love that we are getting more hybrid babies!

7. I loved the return of Tanis and Olivia from the very first Eastshore Isle book, which isn’t even officially book 1 in this series but more of a prequel. I’m so glad everyone is together now!

8. Of course, this series excels at the feel good vibes, the humor, and the spice.

Thank you to Veronika Kane for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

I really truly do enjoy this series. I love small town romances and Eastshore Isle gives off all the cozy vibes of it. Giza is a wonderful cinnamon roll of an orc. Bossy in the bedroom but a total melty cinnamon roll outside of it. With his past, to find out he was having a child? Oh the joy that filled his heart. And his heartbreak when he didn’t know if Harper was going to let him be a part of the pregnancy and baby’s life? Oh I started tearing up.
I did like Harper through the whole book, she is strong, independent, but also so tired of being so strong and perfect. I just didn’t like her attitude in the beginning when it came to telling Giza. Thankfully things work out beautifully and we even get an apology from her about the way she acted. Such a good healing during the book. So it was a wonderful story that had highs and lows and steamy scenes with it. Everything I love about a good story.

I did receive an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

I love this interconnected ORC series!!! This book in particular has so many of my favorite tropes, fated mates, age-gap, accidental pregnancy

Eastshore Isle is just about the cutest place in the world, really quite welcoming and becoming enriched with Orc culture. Our MMC Giza, is the oldest of the Orcs and keeper of stories and cultural traditions in the community, he's a traditional Orc-ish tattoo artist who opened a shop on main street and brings his peoples culture to every tattoo he gives.

Giza thinks well, that he doesn't have the chance for happiness and a mate that the other orcs in Eastshore Isle have been finding. Until he meets the woman he hooked up with at his friends wedding months ago, and she's pregnant with his baby.

Harper has always strived to be perfect, doing everything well, that she thought was expected of her, but seeing her sister Meli get her happy ending on Eastshore Isle. She dumped her Fiancé and had a fling at her sisters wedding, a fling that turned into a lot more than she bargained for when those two lines appeared on a pregnancy test. Harper didn't really know who her fling was, just an Orc she met at her sisters wedding and being so perfectly independent there was a part of her warring with herself over whether or not she even wanted to find him. She decides to go and spend some time with her sister, Meli on Eastshore Isle for a while, get herself figured out and well, everything happens.

This book is sweet, spicy, filled with the perfect Found Family vibes. I just adore it; it's one of those easy soft reads, that's cozy and perfect when you need something low-angst and engaging. Also love that it's a standalone but part of an interconnected series. This is the second of the series I've read, but I will 100% be reading all of them.

I enjoyed the story.
Giza was such a sweetheart. I mean, the scene he made at the debate was wild, and I would run from him too, but when he got a hold of himself he was amazing. So caring, loving and trying his hardest not to push Harper into anything.
Harper irked me, it was clear from the start that Giza would do anything for her, and she thought that he would be a domineering partner. I didn't get that vibe from him at all, even when he took a dom role in bed it was fairly obvious it was just roleplay. I guess I should forgive Harper, she was hormonal and unsure of the future.
I was shocked by Harper's mother, she was such a bitch to Meli and Cairo and now she was fine with her golden child pregnant out of wedlock with an orc? I expected a huge scene there and it wasn't a very big deal at all it seemed.

DNF @ 60%
Couldn’t get past the fmc, she was a little annoying. Drooling over Giza one second and then barking at him to leave her alone the next. Holding his hand and stealing kisses and then jumping on his case. Otherwise I really liked the story! Loved Giza, he was absolutely amazing and so attractive. Normally I’m not too crazy over pregnancy tropes but I didn’t even mind it in this story, it fit considering how family oriented all the orcs seem. I really liked the first three, this one just fell a little short for me. Also I was so confused why her sister and Cairo kicked her out and yelled at her after finding out it was Giza’s baby. This was done obviously to send her to stay with Giza but I feel like they could’ve been way nicer about it, maybe convincing her in a gentle way rather than basically leaving her stranded with no other option.

💚 Age gap (32 & 47)
💚 Tattooed MMC
💚 Surprise pregnancy
💚 Small town romance
💚 Fated Mates

Giza and Harper have a rocky start to their relationship -- surprise pregnancy after a one night stand -- also fated mates -- also she has a successful career away from Eastshore

Giza is immediately devoted to her, but also knows that she may not accept him as her Mate; she may go back to her life and career.

Harper is a classic oldest daughter who was excepted to be perfect her whole life. After ending her loveless engagement, she has a night of fun with a handsome, tatooed older orc. Harper needs a lot of time to trust Giza and feel like her independence won't be limited by him.

Eastshore is such a comfort series.

✔️Small-town romance.
✔️Lovely community,
✔️The Thanksgiving celebration was one of my favourite scenes.
✔️Finding out the gender of their kitling was!my aaaw moment.

I love Giza for all that he is. He deserves his happy-ever-after, and I love how Harper was able to navigate her dilemma.

Harper loves her control over her life but in bed?! That's a different story 😉.

When Giza calls her good girl? 🥵.

The mirror scene?! *chefskiss* 🪞😏

Overall, Giza and Harper's story is sweet and cosy autumn read, perfect for bed-weather reading.

Aaaaand, the teaser for the next book sounded so naughty.

Meli’s sister, Harper, has come to stay with her while she figures out how she wants to deal with her surprise pregnancy and telling her mother. Harper is struggling with always being perfect and making successful choices. Harper had come to the island for Meli’s wedding fresh off her break up with Simon. She has a one-night stand with an Orc at the wedding and ends up pregnant without know the Orc’s name – which is very unlike her. She decides that Meli is right – that she needs to tell the father. Unfortunately, before she can tell him – he figures it out! Nice story of learning to share your life with someone without losing yourself.

Again, I’m on vacation, so monster fic with aaaaalllllll of the tropes is perfectly acceptable 😂

This was okay, I like that it wasn’t instalove, that there was some nuance in their coming together even though it’s a fated mates story.

What I didn’t like, and this is a spoiler here, is that the heroine was upset and afraid and overwhelmed and she came to her sister for help and when he sister’s mate—the MLC from book two—realized who the father of her baby was, he tossed her out, and her sister, her SISTER, said whelp, guess I’ll help you pack. That sucked. I get that the author wanted to set it up so that they’d be in forced proximity, but it ruined those two characters for me.

🔸️That is undoubtedly the most fluffy installment in "Eastshore Isle" series. ❤️
🔸️Giza - that guy is a full scale stern-steady flavoured cinnamon roll Daddy. 😬 Wise and experienced - a perfect partner for Harper, who is a sarcastic, little Miss Perfect (loved her POV). As Harper has a quite difficult life lesson to learn, she find Giza the most supportive and calmest teacher ever.
🔸️Warm, cozy, relaxing to read.
To fully appreciate all background family drama, it's recommended to read Meli and Cairo's story first (My Orc Fake Boyfriend).

a ONS turned into forever

4.5/5

To get over one man get under another…. Well Harper did and ended up with the surprise of a lifetime. She’d spent so much time being perfect and was afraid of what would happen if she had. Gaia’s never expected to find a mate but he did… he only had to convince her to stay. This author wove a beautiful story of these too learning to let go of their preconceived notions and following their hearts. This was such an amazing story of accepting love that is given freely. All thoughts and opinions are my own💜💜

This was soooo good I couldn't put it down. I love how all the Orc men care so much for their women. In the little things they do.
Giza is such a gentleman asking for nothing more than a chance to be in his Mate's life. And how Harper, a strong independent woman, realises that allowing someone else to care for you doesn't mean that you're any less perfect for doing so.
Their romance is so sweet 😍

Surprisingly adorable

It is a credit to the authors that they managed to make a female character who could easily be typecast as the witchy older sister a real person. I, very surprisingly, didn’t hate her and she didn’t hate herself, though she struggles with a bit of self dislike for a bit there (who doesn’t?).
The characters were a masterclass in making an unexpected relationship work and it was sweet and just what I wanted at the time.

Thinking About Everything

I loved this extremely hot and sexy romance. This silver fox really had it going on and handled the surprise pregnancy like a devoted champ. I loved how patient he was with Harper, giving her a chance to find her way to him. She was such an alpha female and learning to trust and rely on someone else was major. I was as relieved as Giza when the connection finally clicked!

Great story

I loved that this wasn't picture perfectly. Harp had a lot of hang-ups for one so perfect all the time. Giza was such the perfect Mate. So patient, and giving, her was willing to let her have all the time she needed to work out why she couldn't admit how she really felt about being his mate, for real. To admit it and acknowledge it publicly was the final connection he needed from her, to seal their mating bond. Wonderful HEA.

Great read

I'm quite new to Veronika Kane books, but each one has not disappointed yet. Very sweet love story. Harper had a one night stand with an Orc at her sister's wedding which resulted in becoming pregnant. She did not know the name of the father or where he lived as he was a guest at the wedding, but seeking out to stay with her sister at Eastshore, they met again, and at first, not the way she envisaged. A brilliant read with a hea.
