Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.

He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.

This is a short (100 pages) book that has Caina against sorcery again. It was good but not as good as the other books. Didn’t take much time so I’m okay with it

My rating probably reflects my feelings about short stories. Figuring out who was the bad guy in this one didn't take much brain activity.

Now, here goes another of those annoying observations of mine. At the end of Ghost in the Flames, Caina and Ark meet up with Halfdan. He tells them, "You'll be leaving tomorrow for Malarae, as Countess Marianna Nereide," said Halfdan. dialog, dialog, dialog. He looked at Ark. "You, my friend, will accompany her, since you two seem to work so well together."

But wait! We have this book in which Caina and Halfdan instead go to Riata disguised as a merchant and his daughter. Mind you, Halfdan had been gone for four days before returning to the Vineyard to collect Caina. What happened to her mission with Ark? They should have already been gone. Unless, their mission remains untold, finished, and she is back at the Vineyard awaiting direction. That's about the only explanation that works for me.

Not a bad short story, but I don’t particularly like stories built around manipulating dreams, so this isn’t one of my favourites.
Because it is all a dream the author can make up ridiculous action sequences and just do away with any logic.
In this case the contest of wills wasn’t bad, but after a while I just found it a bit tedious.

I love how fun this series is. It gives me a break from my epic fantasy. It's definitely not the best short story, but I can suspend my disbelief for the adventure.

A quick short story in the Ghosts series. I enjoyed reading more about the Ashbringers and the Saddai; I think though this was quite similar to the Blade of the Ghosts short story but that isn't necessarily a bad thing!

Highly enjoyable read.

A very interesting story that really highlights both the power of dreams and the mind. Imaginative as well as face paced bringing back many ideas of what could have been! Loved that characters from previous books came back with some subtle nods to book 2.
