Time away from the academy should have been peaceful—and permanent, given the murder that had occurred on campus.
Going their separate ways for the holiday season has Zara, Isak, Lucian, Miles, Nico, and Emery, increasingly aware of what they have all come to mean to each other. Friendships forged out of loneliness and an understanding of one another they had never had before has brought them together in a way they had never expected.
As eager as they are to reunite for their second term at the academy, there’s no denying their return is against their better judgement. But what choice do any of them really have? Some are forced to attend, some favour it to the alternative, some want answers, some are simply too stubborn to be scared off, and, others, refuse to let the people most important to them go at it alone.
Ambitious in their hope that the horrors of the first term are behind them, that hope is quickly dashed when new dangers emerge, with some creeping closer to home than they had first imagined possible. With threats around every corner and no one to trust, it has never become more obvious to them that all they have is each other.
Kyra Gregory writes new adult fantasy novels filled with heart-warming found families, slow-burn romances, court intrigue, and a little bit of bloodshed. While she enjoys making her characters suffer she also enjoys writing soft moments, flourishing friendships, intimate romances, and characters who strive for home and peace. While dark at times, her books are perfect for readers who crave emotional depth and a slow build in their fantasy.
She lives on the tiny Mediterranean island of Malta and is usually spending time with her husband, son, and dog when she isn’t writing and publishing novels or jotting down ideas for her next.
This is a good 2nd book. Parts did seem a bit rushed but book 1 seemed a bit slow. Who knows, maybe book 3 will be jussst right.
The main five are now six united in friendship. Relationships are developing naturally. Problems tackled intelligently. At no point did I clock anything remotely Mary Sue-ish if you know, you know.)
This is a layered mystery these kids are peeling back. There is death. Betrayal—maybe. The Alliance’s Academy exists, but who is threatening whom?
I haven’t figured it out yet. So I’m going to continue to read. Plus I’m invested in what happens next.
I absolutely love this second book. It is a story of an unlikely group of friends 1 vampire, 2 werewolves and 3 witches. Although they have differences and different backstories, they form the most meaningful relationships while attending The Alliance Academy. They are there for Lucian when his brother Elroy dies and their bond and stories grow. Also Zara and Isak relationship blossoms. Now they must come together to figure out who is behind the killing and who is trying to sabotage the academy where they all met. Looking forward to reading the next book.

While this book probably could have been cut a bit shorter, I can't say there were any moments I didn't enjoy reading! So really, I guess this series is just right for me.
I continue to adore the characters and their incredibly supportive found friend group. The supernatural world is fleshed out just enough to create compelling political drama and intrigue. Every action scene is phenomenal--this book really got my heart pounding--but it's the quiet conversations which consistently make The Alliance Academy a series worth investing time in.
