This book is a prequel to A Minor Inconvenience and is only available as an E-book.

Murphie is stuck in the same daily routine. She manages a trendy bar in Minneapolis and is close to giving up on trying to become a published poet. And her love life? Well, that's pretty much non-existent.

That is until Joel catches her eye.

Joel is handsome and successful. The complete opposite of Murphie. For some reason, he is determined to convince her to give him a chance. This has to be too good to be true, right?

This book made me love Murphie and Gavin's relationship so much more! This gives you an inside look at Murphie and Joel. Joel wasn't right for Murphy and it showed! It was the perfect little novella to pair with A Minor Inconvenience!

I was so excited to get to ARC read this since I have already ARC read A Minor Inconvenience. I loved getting to see Murphie at this stage in her life before AMI…still hate Joel, no redeeming qualities 😅…even Sadie knew from the first meeting!!! 🤣

i was so hesitant to start this book because I did not wanna read about joels bitch ass and I was very justified in that because reading the relationship from the beginning like he was sweet the first time they met and I guess the second time, but then he just turned into a complete ass like he was already commenting on what she ate and he kept saying “i’m usually not attracted to women like her” like YUCKKKK GET OUT MY FACE. like it was clear he actually did like her but he was so selfish and only wanted her to move close so he can focus on work???? omg and then he said ily and tbh i didn’t really believe him cause as soon as she said it back he asked her to move, so like did he even actually love her at that point? idk i just hate him and im glad he’s miserable without my beautiful murphie. the only good thing he did was lead murphie to her real love!!!

This book was a prequel/novella for A Minor Inconvenience, and it was ok. I didn’t enjoy the writing as much in this one but I am glad we get to see where/how Joel and Murphie met in the first place. I like that we got to see Joel for who he truly is, a piece of shit LMAO. He’s just a manipulative and cocky terrible person, from the start. I think I counted about 100000 red flags in this 86pg book. You can just tell they had absolutely no really connection and it was just rushed because of Joel and his selfishness. Either way, I don’t think the writing or story line was that good or organized, but I did enjoy this.

OMG!!! I loved Murphie so much in A Minor Inconvenience (which I would highly suggest reading before reading this prequel novella). I didn’t think I could love her any more, but I was wrong. Murphie is just so amazing, and this book proves that Joel was even worse than I thought. I hate him even more. I hate him with a fiery passion that will last through the ages. Ok. Maybe that’s a little harsh. But he is 100% a walking red flag. The epilogue was pure perfection though and I am so so so happy for Murphie, knowing she will get her happily ever after in her book.

Great glimpse into Murphie’s past before AMI.

It’s easy to say that Murphie is “dumb” for not seeing Joel’s red flags, but a lot of people don’t realize the attachment that forms when you feel you should be “lucky” to be with someone outside of your league. Been there done that! Definitely not worth it.

It’s one of those relationships that have you constantly second guessing because of the good parts. As if that
justifies the bad parts.

Anyways! Quick read and I would highly recommend reading this after you have read A Minor Inconvenience.

Short and sweet. The perfect amount of a glimpse into the before. I didn’t like Joel in A Minor Inconvenience and I hated him even more now. But this book made me appreciate Gavin and Murphie’s relationship even more. So many red flags from Joel in this book that make you wanna scream at Murphie but I get it girl. We’ve all been there. Super relatable. And then already knowing how things end up for her just made it sm better.

Joel is... Meh

Okay, I read this because I wanted to start the first book in the series, so naturally I had to read the prequel right? Murphie is great, Joel? Yeah, not so much. I'm curious to see what happens in the next book. Murphie deserves so much better 😭

This wasn’t it. The characters had no chemistry (which I’m sure is the point) but also the writing style was off.

I seriously love how relatable Murphie is - the compromises, sacrifices, and seeing the best in someone despite red flags. As much as I just don't like Joel, he is also a very real character. We all know this guy, and I appreciate that he is written as compromising on his end too. It gives him some credit and humanity. Chelsea Jean has written a believable manipulative/toxic relationship. Pitcher Perfect has the perfect amount of spice - as with A Minor Inconvenience, and I love the tease of Gavin at the end! Definitely recommended to give more depth to Murphie's situation in A Minor Inconvenience.

Reading this book by itself will piss off any woman with an inkling of suspicion intuition. I recommend going straight into the first book after this and THEN coming back to review this one.
