The author does a great job of sharing trigger warnings at the start of the book, so please mind those. Named is a Western historical romance that starts where Girl (h) has been abused by her stepfather for most of her life and is also treated poorly by most of the townspeople in her area. She selectively does not speak after a trauma and while she's planning on running away, her stepfather's debts from gambling lead to her being sold. Thankfully, Jed (H) has been traveling around looking for the woman he's meant to be with, which is something the men of his family do and then they steal them. Girl catches his eye and he realizes she's his so he takes the opportunity to rescue her and names her Dove (she has a name her mother gave to her but the stepfather won't say it and she can't speak so everyone called her Girl). The story is told in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama (H is j/p of even his brother giving h a peck on the cheek), both are virgins (I loved how the H was about this), no bc.

I loved Jed and how he cares for Dove. She doesn't realize at first that he's loving and protective so she tries to escape and is wary of him, but he slowly proves to her that he's a good man and all he wants is to be a good husband. This does include physical intimacy, which Dove has no concept of. At first I thought this was unrealistic, but the more I thought about how she was abused and treated, I can understand how she'd have no concept of how sex worked. Their initial moments do have some awkwardness involved esp because Jed's quick to get to the point (if you know what I mean), but he also makes sure Dove experiences pleasure too and they both grow more comfortable with that part of their marriage. This story is very steamy and there is an element of breeding kink.

The emotional side of their marriage also develops beautifully as these two connect and build trust. Jed teaches her how to read and write for example and is so encouraging, in a beautiful, make you want to go teary-eyed way. The first year of marriage in his family is considered a honeymoon where others take care of the farm so most of the story is just Jed and Dove with appearances by one of his brothers and other minor characters here and there, although I did love his brother Warren the most. Both are also hopeful that Dove will be able to recover the ability to speak (and I'm not going to spoil whether it happens or not). Their love was wonderfully sweet.

There is a bit of danger and suspense that happens closer to the end and brings in a new side character, who'll feature in the next book in the series apparently. And Dove's stepfather DOES get his comeuppance, on page. While there is an epilogue a year later that was lovely and sweet, I still wanted more, probably because I just wanted to revel in the sweet and steaminess of these two for as long as I could.

Named was cute. Dove is coming from an abusive home and when Jed sets his sights on her, well it's a whole new world for Dove.

Dove is so sheltered and naive that it drove me a little batty and Jed was a little much at times but the two of them just worked. Their chemistry and personalities melded together well. This was steamy with a HEA. Fun read!

Five stars ☆☆☆☆☆

"The love I have for you, Dove, you can never escape it."

Dove has had a hard life. In fact, Dove isn't even her name. When she was a child she was horribly abused and even as an 18 year old, she's still being abused by her father and other townspeople. Everyone looks down on her because she can't speak- an act her father took away from her.

Dove (very sweetly) got her name from Jedidiah. They meet as he's passing through her town. As soon as he sees her, Jed knows she's the one. She's the perfect wife for him. It only takes a shotgun marriage to make her a Shay.

Now... I fell in love with both Jed and Dove while reading this. Dove is sweet, shy, and overlooked. But she's incredibly strong. Jed is her perfect counterpart- he's outspoken and protective but not overbearing.

"If you run, I'm gonna come after you. And I'll always find you, Dove—always—because I'm a Shay. Once we set our sights on a woman, she's as good as ours. And you better believe that you're forever mine since I caught you twice."

I LOVED the forehead kisses, the constant touching and coddling, the way Jed feeds her and helps her bathe- all of it. I need my own Jedidiah! This was a five star read for me. It was perfection.

**Beta Read this story- things may have changed in the final version but i think it was minimal changes from when I read it. **
You guys 🥵😮‍💨 I did NOT think I’d be into a western historical romance (is that the correct term? Idk but you know what I mean) but I be d@med if Jed didn’t do 👏🏼 it👏🏼 for 👏🏼 me👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 🤤
🗣Here’s the part where you dip out of your looking for someone to say all the right things or be super fancy and possibly not spoil shit.. idk if I will… so this is ya warning sis- ya gots ta go ✌🏻 👋🏼 😘 if your still here. LETS DO IT 🤪

✨The things ✨
-PROTECTIVE H… Jed is not playing about his Dove y’all. 🤜 You better not say anything slick bc he will HANDLE it 🥹😍 I always love that. He makes sure she’s respected and safe always.
-Jealous/Possessive 🤤 but I wouldn’t say he’s OTT but he’s no chump either …He doesn’t like anyone near her, or his brother to close to her lol. I would say he’s more protective but has good JP qualities for those of us who love an OTT JP H.
-🗣double virg!n$ 🗣😱 I KNOW amazing right? And it’s so cute & hilarious bc Jed, doesn’t get it right off the bat lol. There is some quick shots being fired those first few times things get heated 😂 which I thought was amazing!! ((Don’t worry he makes up for alllll that 😏))
-Care taking ✍️💋 making sure she eats, hand feeding her, carrying her when she’s sore from the long ride. He teaches her to read and write 🥰🥰. (This has become something I’ve really loved lately. 🥰)
-❤️‍🔥he is so dedicated to her over everything else y’all. It just gave me all the feels! 🤗
-selective mute h… 🤐Dove or “Girl”, has lived a rough life and due to fear/trauma has not spoken in 13 years. She is verbally and physically abused. (⚠️trigger warning)
-Jed does not mind licking up after himself!!! mmhmm... 👅.. it was hot AF too. Don’t judge me- okurt? I was like gawd-dayuumm Jed 🥵
-SPIIICCYYYY 🔥🔥 ML doesn’t disappoint. Who knew that western dirty talk was so damn hot 🥵. Goodness.
-Standalone (but read the whole series, I mean These Shay men are just 🥰🤗🥵)
-Side character Gold: Abner & Warren 😆😂 One is a little boy whose too damn grown for his own good and the other is, Hs brother, and they are HILARIOUS! Idk how many times I was CRYING over Abner y’all! 😂🤣🤪
- [ ] ▪️🪺 here’s a little Easter egg for you: in book 2: Tamed the h works at a furniture store owned by Mr. wright, who said his grandpa told him a story about Jed shay & his woman!! The hilarious little boy in this story is named Abner Wright. Mmmhmmm… your welcome 🤗
-HEA ❤️of courseeee
🙅🏻‍♀️ NO OW
🙅🏻‍♀️NO CHEATING/SHARING

⚠️Triggers: ⚠️
-verbal and physical abuse of the h

Overall- this book was super good and I enjoyed it as much as the rest of them in the series. Jed was so damn dedicated to caring for her and protecting her. It was so beautiful y’all. Did I know that western historical romances dirty talk was gonna be so hot? Helllll nahhh but Jed saying “my little wife”, whewwweee… hot as hell 😂. I love M.L you guys. She’s a newer author, and I have been devouring this series . The series is KU also so give it a shot then come tell me how much you love little Abner lol 😝

This was cute :) not my favorite from the series, that seat still remains taken by the most perfect couple ever Amos and Mercy from Claimed. Nonetheless it was so sweet and endearing and oh so tender at times.
I think it lacked a little edge and roughness I usually go for in my romance, but it's just my preference and I totally understand this was not that kind of story. Our heroine here, sweet and innocent Dove, needed and deserved someone extremely patient and soft-hearted and gentle after all the trauma and injustice she endured and Jedidiah was absolutely all those things and more. He was the perfect, loving, supportive, hot, protective husband.

3 stars while impatiently waiting to read anything this author has to offer! ❤️

oh. my. gosh.

This is my favorite one so far!!

Does this count as a historical romance?? If so I found one I really like.

Jed was so patient and sweet 🥹💗

“You have to remember that it’s been thirteen years since you’ve used these muscles. Things are bound to be a little tight until they get used on the regular again. Does it sound a little rough now? Yeah, it does, but you could sound like an old howling polecat and it’d still be the most beautiful thing in the world to me because it’s coming from you”

”No…no, don’t stop.” A warm hand catches my chin, urging me to look up. “That was beautiful, Dove. So beautiful because I could hear you.”
~ THIS HAD ME GIGGLING AND KICKING MY FEET

”Because you’ll always catch me.”
“Always wife. Because this is what it means to be a Shay.”

I really liked this, it was a fun read. Loved Jed and his possessiveness and jealousy.
Double virgins, yay! ( Extra points for that )

Now, Girl was naive and innocent to the point of hilarity when it came to the sexual stuff and some parts made me cringe 🙈

It didn’t make sense that she was so clueless to those things when she had a job in town and slept at the brothel a lot- there’s just no way, it would’ve made more sense had she been kept solely at the house with no idea as to how the outside world functioned. 🤔

I also wish that Jed had explained what happens between an husband and wife before any of the sexual stuff? But then there would’ve been less dubcon, I guess 🤔

I really liked how Jed was so patient and caring towards his wife loved how she took actions into her own hands at the end, proud of her 🥺

I’m very curious for Warren’s book since he seems like such a golden retriever 🥺

Overall, enjoyed it !

Not quite a “kidnap and keep captive” story, the trick is to bring your captive into a better environment and then they stay :)

Dove was damaged and scared but it was refreshing to see her innocence in all things as she learns about sex and men. A few funny bits that made me chuckle.

Jed- very sweet and a great guy with his head on his shoulders and his cock in his pants 😂

I love the premise, that a man waits to find his wife until he is ready and he has a home and money already with a family unit ready to help with the crops for 1 year while they honeymoon. Think of the arguments and stress they were spared! Ah well- fantasy.

It was unexpectedly tender when Dove finds her voice. Abner was a real kick. And the segue into the next book with Warren? Intriguing.

Трошечки мій філолог в середині прокинувся, і ось думки по цій книзі.💎

Пара: Джед & Дав

Тропи:
⋆ історичний вестерн
⋆ примусовий шлюб
⋆ dual virgins
⋆ вимушена близкість
⋆ головна героїня має проблеми з мовленням

Книга не погана, мені впринципі сподобалась.

що мене зацікавило саме тут

це те що в книзі чітко зазначено, що вона
"loosely based on the Roman soldiers and the Sabine women" (заснована на історії римських солдатів і сабінянок).

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SERIES

I can't remember how I stumbled upon this series last year (I think) but I'm glad I did. Dare I say that this series is one of my top series ever? There have been series where I enjoyed at least 2-3 books then hated the 3rd or 4th one, but this author does NOT disappoint with this series. With the same background this author managed to write different plots each time.

The thing is I HATE AND AVOID plots that are set in the past so I was prepared to not enjoy this one as much as the rest (and was gonna be okay with it) but the time period wasn't mentioned much and surprisingly I enjoyed every part of the book. Jed & Dove are my babies I love them so much and YOU CANT IMAGINE HOW STOKED I AM THAT WE ARE GETTING AT LEAST 2 MORE BOOKS IN THIS SERIES.

“Named” is the story of Dove and Jed.

Our abused, non verbal, extremely scarred heroine is rescued from her horrible circumstances by the protective hero, who marries her. She tries to escaped, he wheels her back in- their relationship and journey to falling in love forms the story as she learns to live her new life.

Feel good with moments of angst

When he carves your name on your abusive father's chest to avenge you... no one does it like Jedidiah Shay.

I liked this one much better than the first book in the series (although I liked that one too, this was better to me). The heroine (Dove) has been abused by her father ever since she was five years old. He would slit her throat which caused her to live in fear to talk. She's been mute for the majority of her life, which resulted into people domineering and making fun of her. That was until Jedidiah came along.

Maaaan, I loved everything about this. The beginning took some time to get used to, but once I did, it was enjoyable to read. The side characters were fun, Warner was hilarious lol. But what stole the show for me was Jed being so incredibly patient with Dove and taught her how to read and write, since she wasn't able to go to school because of her father. He taught her a lot of things, was so gentle with her, never made her do any heavy work and always made sure she was comfortable. He made sure everyone treated Dove right and with respect. The middle of the book consisted all of these IT WAS PERFECT!! The moment he learned what her father did to Dove, he promised to avenge her... and he kept his promise all right. And the scene where she was finally able to talk!! THAT MADE ME TEAR UP NGL IT MELTED MY FROSTY HEART.

This book had more depth than the previous book which I loved! I just can't get enough of Jedidiah and Dove, these two are so precious and they're perfect for each other. If you're a fan of a protective and possessive who can be gentle and sweet at the same time, it's an absolute MUST to read this book. Jed is the best hero I can ask for, Dove's character growth was so beautiful and the way they got revenge was so satisfying to read.

*******
My first read by this author and in this series and I loved it.
Dove's abuse by her stepfather had my blood boiling but Jed was the perfect man to heal that hurt
Historical romance
Dove was physically abused and hasn't said a word in 13 years, she also can't read or write
Jeb teaches his wife with such sweet patience and praise #swoon. Those moments were some of the sweetest I've read in a romance in quite a while
I absolutely adored these two
On to the others in this series

No cheating
Dual virgin mcs
h was physically abused and is selectively mute, she regains her voice with her husband's care
Violence
Kidnapping

ETA the h was very innocent due to her upbringing, when I tell you I cackled at her learning about his body and sex

He's...it's...oh, sweet Lord! What happened to the cute little snake? This swollen purplish thing looks painful! He closes his fist around it. "This is what you do to me, wife."

This book seemed very sweet compared to the first 2 books. The heroine was so sheltered that she didn't know how babies are made or what men look like naked.

The hero also kept finishing early and then apologizing. They were both each other's first lovers and experience with physical intimacy so he got better as they practiced.

Edit :

I still have no words. lol, i love this one. they are each other's first and only. A little pushing away from h's side but wasn't irritating. It even made the chase, thrilling. Ended up with a HEA. Absolutely loved this book and loved this couple. After reading the synopsis of the other books in this series I have no desire to read them, I'm not into Stockholm syndrome as a kink, but this couple really hit it out of the park for me. Hot, sweet, vulnerable, possessive, strong. This story had it all.

i never thought i'll enjoy reading this one, seeing as i was so stressed by the first book in this series. for the record, i'll never be fine with the catching and stealing of woman to be a wife. but i do appreciate how sweet, caring, protective, and patient these men when it comes to their women. abduction aside, these Shay men were perfect husband material.

in this particular instalment, jed was so patient and loving when it comes to dove/remembrance. i also liked the way how he exacted his revenged to her stepfather i'll only tolerate that violence here, because it's fiction and it was actually hot how he defended her.

as for dove/remembrance, i think she was the most innocent character i've encountered in all the books i read. probably because this was set in 1800 and talking about sexual stuff was kind of scandalous. so i somehow get why she has no idea at all. i did like how she learn to speak, write, and count thanks to jed's patience and tutoring. the way how she bloomed into this confident woman because of her husband's love and support.

for both mmc's who were both virgin, this book was unexpected on point delivering very hot and spicy scenes. i didn't expect that at all. jedidiah sure as shit knows what he was doing and dove the innocent wife taking it all everything like a good student. though their start was unconventional, along the book their relationship build up and sexual tension went from 0 to 60. they were so good and hot together, and soon the chemistry went off the charts.

overall, this was a good read for me. something to pass time since this is also a short read with 200+ pages only. not great but not bad either.

Who knew a historical western romance could be so hot 🥵? This author already had me trying to find a way to climb into her books and let a Shay man claim me, but now she has me trying to build a time machine too.

If you've read the previous books in the series, you've already been introduced to the deliciousness that is a Shay man. Each one is so protective and j€alous/p○ss€ssive yet also loving and sweet (and of course, determined to claim his women -no matter how often she runs).

Although I'd never run from a Shay (then again, being caught by a Shay is half the fun 😍🥵), considering what Dove's been through I understand why she did. She's endured years of mistr€atment by her father, in a town where too many were content to sit by and watch. Not only does this result in her mistrust of people, but she's also unable to speak and for a reason I didn't see coming. (I won't go into further detail since I'm trying to avoid spoilers but her backstory broke my heart. )

While Jed is traveling through town, he comes across "Girl" (aka Dove) and he's instantly drawn to her. Unfortunately, he's not the only one and some men aren't as respectful as they should be. Which I am all for when Jed's in the room, because this man shows zero hesitation when it comes to showing other men why they should respect boundaries.

When Dove's father does the unspeakable and attempts to sell her, Jed is quick to claim her and what follows is a story that I absolutely loved! Jed was so amazing to Dove and I loved watching him chip away at the wall of distrust that surrounded her. She needed kindness, and he gave her that and so much more. He helped her learn to read and empowered her to find her voice. Those breakthrough moments between the two were some of my favorites. Each word held so much power and meaning and I didn't know whether to cry or swoon (or both). Combine that with the spice upon spice, and it's easy to see why I loved this book so much.

Amazing read and I cannot wait for the next book.

We take another step back into the past of the Shay family, as we watch Jedediah claim his bride. He doesn’t actually kidnap her but she wasn’t entirely 100% willing either.

Jed ends up buying Dove from her evil, drunkard stepfather who’s mistreated her since her mother died leaving her with only him as kin. Clarence Crowley has no redeeming qualities. Everyone calls her Girl because no one remembers her name, not even her. She’s been mute since her mother died after being threatened by Clarence.

Dove is resistant and very skittish. It takes her awhile warm up to Jed and trust him. Not so long that it was annoying. I’m certain overcoming issues like hers IRL would take more time and more than a dreamlike husband to overcome but I was thankful for the artistic interpretation here. It was just enough that it felt plausible.

Like all the Shay men we’ve met so far, he’s an impossibly perfect dream H *sigh*. There’s no way to read this book and not walk away madly in love with Jedediah Shay. He might be the dreamiest of the Shay’s we’ve met so far.

Medium burn, some foreplay filled sexy times leading up to the big moment but both H/h have their vCards til around half way.

Firstly, I want to say that I absolutely love this series. The story line is unlike anything else I’ve read. The main characters charge in and literally take what they want and don’t take no for an answer but they’re so sweet about it and Jedidiah is no different. He’s patient, caring, kind, and very loving. He’s also possessive, controlling, and very much a Shay in and out of bed. He’s quite possibly my favorite Shay.
When he meets Dove, he knows she’s the one, his method of claiming her isn’t typical of the Shay men but they all have their own way. Dove’s story is heartbreaking and as if her childhood wasn’t sad enough, her current living situation isn’t great either. Jedidiah claims and saves her at the perfect time. Their relationship is rocky and full of obstacles including the fact that Dove doesn’t talk but in true Shay fashion, he is nothing but kindness and patience when it comes to her. I can’t wait to read the next book, I never want this series to end.

This was sweet. Easily more spice than plot, but this is one author whose more erotic writing I do enjoy.

As all of the other Shay men have been, Jedediah is truly smitten with his little Dove. And, she needs someone to care for her. She has not had the easiest life.

If you enjoy an OTT “does everything & anything for his woman” kind of man, this is worth reading. I enjoyed that it took place in the Old West and we got to see how a Shay back in the day got his woman.

Warren, Jedediah’s younger brother, is introduced in this story and I simply adored him. Can’t wait to read his story next.
