Another winner in this series! The crime based on a true crime is particularly horrific, especially when it happens on Christmas. Taylor is still recovering so Shane is handling the investigation without her help? I have to say that he is not a favorite character for me. No spoilers, but I dislike that he never gives credit where credit is due. There was more about Taylor and her family with some of their ongoing issues. Lucy, in particular, is going through some rough times. They are such a great family. I’m rooting for them!

I’m in the minority but for me the series continues to get weaker. I was very thrown by the timeline in this book - we’d suddenly be weeks or months later. No frame of reference for where we are in time or ages of the kids. Shane is annoying. I’m finding several of the characters and their decisions frustrating.

SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS is Book 11 in the fantastic Hart’s Ridge small-town mystery series by Kay Bratt. I have read and loved every book in the series and this one is no exception. In this story, Deputy Taylor Gray is hoping for a low-key Christmas filled with family, friends and good cheer. She is still home from work recovering from the life-threatening fungal meningitis she contracted while working undercover. She is also busy with her newborn daughter, Lennon. But Taylor hates being dependent on others and not being the caretaker for everyone else. On Christmas Eve, the peace and magic of the holiday season in Hart’s Ridge is shattered when four people from a local family are found murdered. Deputy Shane Weaver is struggling to solve the horrendous case with only little help from Taylor. As if this isn’t enough, Taylor’s sister, Lucy, is having an extreme medical crisis and no one seems to be able to help her. The story is full of suspense and drama and a murder mystery to boot. I was hooked from the very first page and couldn’t read this book fast enough. I can’t wait until Book 12 comes out and hope that there are more after that. Thank you to the author for providing me with an early copy to read and review.

A family is murder on Christmas Day.
Taylor is recovering months after finding out she was pregnant and had meningitis. In fact the baby is now months old and Taylor is yet to fragile to even walk ( a year + later?) . I just found that redicous. I guess it is the time frame, which jumps around a lot in this book. Very very little to do with Christmas.
Then her sister Lucy who seemed to of finally settled down after having Johnny 8? Years ago has been doing great , suddenly has a serious un diagnosed mental condition.
Of course this fact leads Taylor to help Shane her work partner ( who clearly still has the hots for her) solve the case. All setting in her home, never seeing the crime scene, not aware of any evidence. Yet the official investigation was clueless.
I think what I hated was the fact Taylor was sneaking around behind her husband back who made it clear to stop working with Shane.
I actually enjoyed the early books in this series but frankly think the author is just lost on new story lines of her own. Even admitting she based it on a crime that happened where she lives.

Kay does it again with book#11 of the Hart's Ridge series. Taylor Grey is home on medical leave, and so is sidelined when the horrific murder of a neighboring family occurs. Shane is lead detective, and although Taylor is officially sidelined, she is in contact with Shane. While supposed to be resting, recuperating, and enjoying her new baby , she is also dealing with family drama. Can Taylor stay out of the investigation? Kay manages to pull us right into Taylor's world. Another great volume to the series. Hope there's a book # 22 coming.

I love the Hart’s Ridge series and this one is not an exception but don’t let the title get you too cozy because danger and violence are literally lurking from the darkness even when it’s time for family gatherings and opening your hearts to give and share joy.
Family dynamics and drama is a tough game for everyone involved.
Taylor is on the recovery path from meningitis and busy with her baby daughter. Being off work that means much more than job, it’s her passion and mission to make everyone safe takes a toll on her mental health and dealing with more drama can be critical to cope.
Wanting to help but forgetting about her own wellbeing can be destroying.
And there’s a murder mystery to be solved.
A vicious circle of evil, cruel and twisted mind’s greed.
I keep forgetting that this is fiction but it feels too real and all the characters are so realistic and so accurate to the point where story unfolds before your eyes.
Fantastic job done, Kay Bratt! Special thanks for the bonus scene you gave us.

I have loved all of the books in this series, but this one didn’t seem as good to me. I loved reconnecting with the characters, but the story line wasn’t as developed as her other books.

Yet Another Excellent Entry In Series. Seriously y'all, if you enjoy small towns and family drama, you're going to love this entire series. So just go all the way back to Book 1, start there, and this one will be here when you get here.

Yet again with this series, Bratt bases the crime of the book on an all-too-real one, though as she notes in the author's note, this particular one was *so* horrible that she just couldn't bring herself to replicate certain elements of the real crime in her fictional world.

And that brings me to my one criticism of this particular book. Anyone that knows Bratt and follows her on social media, particularly her Facebook page, knows that she brings quite a bit of her own real world into her fiction, and there was one particular line that while meant as fiction and from a character's perspective... there are just too many instances of the real world blending into the fictional for this line not to be addressed in my review, particularly since, as I told Bratt personally, I tend to call such bullshit lines out any *other* time I see them, and I do try my best to approach every book and every author in the same manner, *no matter what*. Indeed, the very line in question references by name and detail an all too real event that happened just months before publication of this book.

The particular line in question here is that "The gun laws in this State are a joke, and you know it. That's why we've got tragedies like Apalachee High School - two kids and two teachers gunned down because *it's easier to buy an AR-15 than it is to adopt a damn dog*." (Emphasis mine).

As I told Bratt directly before sitting down to write this review - and I quote: "As someone who has both adopted a dog and bought a gun in the State of Georgia - the gun across State lines at a Georgia gun show while living in South Carolina, no less! - I can state without hesitation or equivocation that Bratt is 100% wrong about it being easier to buy a gun in the State than adopt a dog. For one, there are no background checks at all when adopting from a County-run animal shelter, while buying a gun anywhere in the United States requires a criminal background check to be completed before the gun can be purchased - yes, even if buying the gun at a gun show. Furthermore, while where I can take my dog is not legally restricted in any manner (though property owners certainly may decline to allow my dog on their property), where I can take my gun is heavily restricted, even in the State of Georgia."

I also told her that I would also note here that this is absolutely one of those issues where your mileage may vary - you may agree that guns need to be more heavily regulated or you may not, you may think that pet adoption or pets generally need to be more heavily regulated or not - but the statement in the text was 100% wrong in the real State of Georgia, and I've personally experienced both sides of the statement and know of what I speak here. But hey, Bratt never specifically addresses these issues in her fictionalized Georgia, so even though it bears a striking resemblance to the real thing, as authors frequently note in the front pages of their fiction books "This work is fiction and not intended to represent any real person, place, or thing no matter how similar they may or may not be. The views and opinions expressed herein are those of the fictional characters only and do not necessarily reflect or represent the views and opinions held by any real person, including the author." So let's give Bratt the benefit of the doubt here that she isn't addressing the real State of Georgia in that particular line and move on. :)

Again, outside of that particular line, the book itself is perhaps even one of the stronger of the entire series - which is saying something, considering Bratt originally intended to end this series a few books ago, but fans keep demanding to come back to this world, and she keeps delivering. The drama in our central family is coming back up from unexpected and interesting places, there is more drama brewing in other areas well established earlier in the series yet which had cooled off in recent books, the crime of the book is particularly gnarly and the investigation is tight without being the frenetic sprint of the prior book...

It just all works truly, truly well, and again, makes this one of the stronger books in the series to date overall.

So again, go back to book 1 (assuming you're new to the series) and get here - you'll want to get here when you do, and this book will make you fall in love with the series all over again and want at least one more book from it. Which Bratt may or may not have news about in the Author's Note. ;)

Very much recommended.

So This Is Christmas by Kay Bratt is going to be a very special Christmas present for many of us because of its release on Christmas Day. Pre-order it now, so it will be waiting in your inbox in the morning. I can’t think of a better gift to give yourself than the next exciting installment of the Hart’s Ridge series. This is book eleven and it is so good. They just get better and better.

There is a tragic murder of a family on Christmas Eve in the small town of Hart’s Ridge. The remaining family members are devastated and our favorite character Taylor is out of work on medical leave. Her husband Sam has made her promise that she will not get involved in the investigation. How can she stay away? She has to find a way to help and still not break her promise to Sam.

The characters in this book and series are what really draws me in. I feel like I know them personally and I always am looking forward to hearing more of the news from Hart’s Ridge. Even the characters I didn’t like in the beginning are included in the ones I care about. Taylors father was a drunk back when she was young and left caring for her siblings, but now it looks like he is trying to turn his life around. That is just one of the reasons I keep reading this series.

The crimes that take place in Hart’s Ridge are horrific. Your eyes tear up and your heart breaks for the families involved. Kay Bratt has done a wonderful job with this series and her fans want to see that series continue. I don’t want it to end! I would eventually like to see a yearly update so we know what is going on with Taylor and her family who run a rescue and boarding facility on their property. See! I told you there is a lot going on.

If you love long series, crime stories, small towns and characters you can grow to love and consider part of your own family, then this series is something you should consider taking a deep dive into. I never was a series reader but now I can’t seem to stay away from them. I’m always waiting for the next book to come out. Are you the same way? Until next time…Happy Reading!

So This is Christmas is the eleventh book in the best selling Hart’s Ridge series by Kay Bratt. The small town of Hart’s Ridge is glowing with holiday magic as the quaint town is decked with festive lights and holiday cheer that draws visitors from all around. However, this year, Deputy Taylor Gray hopes for a quiet holiday as she recovers and learns how to enjoy her new role as the family celebrates. However, in another part of town, the peace and quiet of the Christmas spirit is shattered when four bodies are discovered. Detective Shane Weaver must solve this crime without Taylor as she becomes torn between her promise to Sam to stay out of the investigation and focus on her recovery and her sworn duty to keep the town safe. Who would do such a horrendous act at Christmas? And can Taylor keep her promise? Will Shane leave her out of it?
The Hart’s Ridge series just keeps getting better and better! To say that I enjoyed this story would be an understatement. Inspired by real life crime stories, So This is Christmas takes readers on a journey into the unthinkable and asks the question what would drive someone to commit such a crime. So This is Christmas opens with the shocking crime as a family is gunned down and keeps readers on the edge of their seats as the twists and turns come at a fast pace. Intertwined with the case, Taylor is faced with a decision: when will she realize that taking time for yourself and your health isn’t selfish but necessary? It is a question that many caregivers must face. What will be Taylor’s breaking point? If you are a fan of the Hart’s Ridge series, I highly, highly recommend So This is Christmas! If you have not yet started the series, I highly, highly recommend it.

The author originally said that there would be ten books in this series so I was thrilled that there was a book 11 and possibly more books in this series in the future. I have enjoyed the entire series and in my opinion, So This is Christmas is the best book so far. It was great to go back and spend time with all of the characters in Hart's Ridge that we know and love but the plot in this book was so intriguing that when I started it, I couldn't put it down until the end.

Taylor is still on medical leave after contracting meningitis and having a baby. She's taken care of other people for so long that she's having a real problem asking people to take care of her and refusing to let her get involved in any physical activities. But its Christmas time and the town is full of decorations and her family is getting ready for their Christmas celebration. Meanwhile in another part of town, there is a horrific crime committed when four bodies are discovered and two children are left as orphans, Taylor really wants to get involved in solving the crime but her husband and family encourage her to take care of herself and her health and to let the detectives solve the case. She communicates with the chief detective on the case, her old friend Shane. She does some background checks for him until her husband finds out that she is helping and then he tells Shane to leave Taylor out of the case. At the same time that she's agonizing over her inability to help solve the murders, her sister Lucy is in a bad place in her life. Taylor always took care of her younger sisters and wants to help Lucy and the rest of her family. Since Taylor has always been the family caregiver and a caring detective, will she be able to learn that it's ok to let other people take care of you?

The latest book in the Hart’s Ridge series is a deep look at family ties and mental illness as well as a riveting murder mystery. When an entire family is killed on Christmas Eve, Taylor finds herself out of the loop because she is still recovering from a devastating injury. She also has a new baby to occupy her time. But nothing will keep her from keeping up with what is happening in the case and offering Shane suggestions about how to pursue his investigation. This book deals with difficult and realistic topics in a way that made me think and be grateful for the family ties that I have and to cherish my loved ones more, with the realization that evil is real and can come suddenly just as it did for the local family in this novel. Jealousy, resentment and pure evil play a part in this intriguing and intense mystery set at the festive time of Christmas. The characters are dynamic and well-rounded and I felt empathy for each of them as they dealt with the mental illness of a beloved sister. My favorite character was Taylor, a shadow of her strong and independent self we have seen in past books, as she struggles to overcome her injuries and decide on her next steps in life. Sam, her husband, is a rock who stands by her as protector and best friend as well as her love and I absolutely applauded his strength and tenacity in helping Taylor to accept her weaknesses and to give herself time to heal. There are so many things to love about this book, but the best part is the family that truly cares about each other and wants the best for each one. A great story with a profoundly disturbing crime that includes a police procedural along with the family drama.

This book was even better than the last. Each seems to get better.

The Hart's Ridge series is so good. Each book has a mystery wrapped around a true to life crime. Also more about the Gray family and all that entails.

Taylor just had her baby and is home on leave from her job while recuperating from almost dying and from having her daughter. Sam, her husband, insists on her doing nothing that relates to her job as a deputy. She needs no stress. Of course that is not easy for Taylor.

As you get to know each of the Grays you also read about a horrific murder. A family who were shot and killed on Christmas Eve. Who would do such a horrible thing to this very nice and loving family.

This book kept me turning the pages and wanting more. It held me captive until the last sentence. Kay weaves enough of a real life crime into the story that you keep trying to figure out who did it. Who the killer or killers were. I had my suspicions and was half right.

There is also a bit of mental illness in this story. Of course with such a horrific murder I believe the killer suffered deeply from a mental illness but this was about Taylor's sister. Lucy has so many problems and you hear from her again in this story. Her problems seem to escalate until she just can't deal. Taylor of course wants to fix it but this time she can't.

I was so happy to read the part about Lydia and Caleb after her return. That is from the book Hello Little Girl. Lydia had been kidnapped and held for a long time. I wondered what became of them and was so happy that Kay added this part in the ending. Maybe an upcoming book about them??

I love this series and hope it can continue for a while. There are a few characters that I'd like to hear more about.

Another winner. Five big stars.

Publishes 12/25/24! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book 11 in the Hart’s Ridge Series and as usual, this didn’t disappoint. Must be read in order, or you will miss all the family and work dynamics.

Christmas in Hart’s Ridge has Taylor recuperating and enjoying her family while out on leave. A horrendous murder occurs, leaving 4 dead. Taylor is finding it hard to take work out of her leave. While on the home front, a family member is in crisis. Can she help solve the murder while taking care of family and healing herself?

I don’t read many series, but this is one of my favorites. Ms. Bratt packs so much into these books. Fast paced, can be read in a sitting or two. Great characters facing realistic family and police drama. There are quite a few characters introduced throughout, but each book centers around a different character issue so you get quite familiar with each, making it easy to distinguish each. I enjoyed Taylor’s personal and family journey in this one, which made this book slightly different than the previous ones. I’ve totally become fully vested in this family and town. This series is the perfect gift for the book lover in your life.

I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.

This is a great book by Kay Bratt there’s Christmas and a quadruple murder all tied up neat inside this book. I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the very last pages of it. We start out in Hart’s Ridge with Taylor recovering from her last assignment at the women’s prison. She’s had a long recovery and has a sweet baby named Lennon. She’s still recovering from being in the hospital and giving birth. She’s on strict orders to not work any cases. When there’s a quadruple murder Shane enlists Taylor to do some work on the case. Lots of suspects and all with a good reason to kill the parents, brother and his wife of a family in Hart’s Ridge. In the meanwhile her sisters enter her life again all of them with their own crises. This time it’s Lucy she’s having issues and leaves her son Johnny with Taylor and her family. Taylor has a relapse from her hospitalization and ends up back in the hospital. This time I thought Taylor had taken on too much. The murder case is full of suspects all with good reason to commit the murders. Taylor must decide if she wants to stay home or work for the sheriffs office. As per Kay Bratt’s writing style everything is all tied up with a neat bow. This book is not a standalone book as some others are in this series.

"So This is Christmas" by Kay Bratt is a gripping addition to the Hart’s Ridge small-town mystery series, packed with suspense and unexpected twists. Set against the picturesque backdrop of a town glowing with holiday magic, the story takes a darker turn when a tragic discovery shatters the festive peace on Christmas Eve. Deputy Taylor Gray’s internal conflict—torn between her family obligations and her instinct to protect her community—adds emotional depth and complexity to the narrative.

Despite its title and festive cover, this is not a typical holiday story; the Christmas setting serves as a poignant contrast to the devastating events that unfold. Bratt expertly weaves a compelling mystery that keeps readers hooked, while also exploring the intricacies of Taylor’s relationships. Though it works as a stand-alone, having prior knowledge of the characters’ histories from earlier books enhances the experience. Fans of small-town mysteries will find this installment a riveting read that showcases Kay Bratt’s talent for blending heart-pounding suspense with deeply human storytelling.

I absolutely love this series, I love everything about it! And I love reading Christmas stories during the holidays. So when one of my favorite, must-read authors publishes a Christmas story in her amazing series, it's like Santa came down my chimney and left me all the gifts!

Kay Bratt's series has it all. Great characters, a wonderful family full of it's own drama, and a crime that begs to be solved. This story starts out as a gentle story of a family getting ready for Christmas.... and then it wasn't that any more. Whoa! I was hooked from the first pages.

The drama of four murdered neighbors is almost more than this community can handle. It tears Taylor apart that she is recuperating and can't be as involved in solving the case. Twists and turns made me rush to the end.

Another thing I love about this series is the growth and depth of the characters that we get with each book. Their lives just go on and we get to witness all of their ups and downs, right along with everyone else.

I've loved each book in this series and am always anxiously waiting for the next installment. Check out the Hart's Ridge series!

So This Is Christmas by Kay Bratt is the eleventh installment in the Hart's Ridge series, which is one of my favorite  series.  Ms. Bratt has a remarkable talent for crafting stories that captivates readers, making it "cannot put down" book.

In this episode, Deputy Taylor Gray is spending a quieter holiday at home, recovering from illness and caring for her newborn daughter. However, the peace is disrupted on Christmas Eve when four bodies are found, leaving two children orphaned. Taylor is deeply conflicted between her wish to please her husband, Sam, who insists she stay out of the investigation, and her strong desire to be involved in solving this horrific crime. She must find a way to assist with the investigation without breaking her promise to Sam.

Amidst all the other events, the Gray family is also dealing with some sisterly drama.

The Hart's Ridge series is set in the enchanting town of Hart's Ridge. The characters are richly developed, and the plot is full of twists and turns that keep readers guessing.

Be sure to read the end where the author shares the true-life story that was the inspiration for this book.

Yet another fantastic book from the Harts Ridge series by Kay Bratt. Melding true crime with family drama, this series just gets better and better.

It's Christmas, and the Gray family is once again pulling together, this time to help Taylor recover and get back on her feet and be able to look after her new baby. It's usually Taylor doing the looking after, so this is hugely difficult for her. Things dont go to plan. There's a quadruple murder to solve, and Lucy is having problems.

Taylor isn't at work, but she wants to help. Can she and should she? Lucy is causing her all kinds of problems. Will Sam stand by and see Taylor struggle?

Once again, I found this book difficult to put down; already, we are on book 11, I'm so pleased the author has decided to keep the story going.

The books in this series are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline.

I can't wait to see where this series goes and how the characters develop.

Kay always writes a little about the real-life crime she used as a subject at the end of the book. She changes some aspects, but it's interesting to read the background.

Things are crazy in Hart's Ridge. Taylor is home on leave. She's recovering from her life-threatening illness acquired when she was undercover in prison (previous book). She is also now a mother of a newborn. The recovery is going too slowly for her taste, and she hates being dependent on others.

On Christmas Eve, a horrendous murder of four family members takes place. Taylor's good friend, Shane is in charge of the investigation but he's missing Taylor, who he acknowledges to himself, is perhaps a better detective than he is. She is chomping at the bit to get back into action, but she is restricted in what she can do.

Also, things are at a breaking point at home, the boarding center is full of pets at the holiday time, and not only Taylor is having health issues.

This is another great book in the series. Although it would be very helpful to know the characters and their back stories, a reader can read this book and enjoy it. But be advised, it's not a Hallmark Christmas story.

Every time I think Hart’s Ridge can’t get any better, Kay Bratt writes an even better book. This one is more of a tear jerker. Taylor is still on bed rest after her near miss with fungal meningitis and then having her baby girl, Lennon. Shane tries to get her help in a quadruple murder that happens on Christmas but she ends up having a relapse. The sheriff asks the GBI in for assistance. Jane, Willis, Seth and Erin are found dead by Erin’s mother when she brings the grandchildren over to celebrate Christmas. In the meantime, Lucy goes into psychotic break. They think she is getting better and then takes her dog, but leaves her medication and son behind. Taylor is finally starting to understand that she does not to take care of everyone, she does have family and friends to assist her. Kay also brings us up to date with Caleb and Lydia since she brought back from being kidnapped. Lydia comes up with an idea that the girls on board with. Can’t wait to see what happens.

So This Is Christmas is the 11th book in Kay Bratt’s Hart’s Ridge series. In this installment, Taylor is recuperating from an illness that she obtained while working undercover. Her recovery is slow going due in fact to having a new baby to take care of and the added burden of personal family matters regarding her sisters. In every book, the author incorporates a police related case that is based off from an actual true life crime, and this one is a doozy! It goes to show you never really know who you can trust. This story gives the reader a closer look into Shane’s personality and I still can’t decide if I like him or not. In the next issue, Every Little Thing, which is book 12, I’m anticipating learning more about mental health and the impact it has on a person and on their family. This is a series I can’t seem to get enough of and it’s one I highly recommend. Kay Bratt continues to amaze me with her writing abilities and I’m giving this book a much deserved 5 star rating!

In Book 11 of the Harts Ridge series titled, SO THIS IS CHRISTMAS, we find the main character, Taylor Gray, still recovering from meningitis and off of work as a police deputy. Taylor is a new mom to baby,Lennon, and struggling to find a healthy balance in her life.

Another major crime hits the community yet again and Taylor is not medically cleared to return to work to assist. This weighs heavily on her. Add the continuing drama among the Gray sisters, their family business, and a set back from Lucy, their youngest sister, and the stress is too much.

What I liked about this book was the underlying message. Many of us struggle with a work/life balance. We feel that our job cannot function without us. We feel we have to carry the weight and responsibility of the family on our shoulders. This book shows through Taylor the struggles everyone has and of the importance of self care. It is a good reminder to step back and breathe.

Well, there she goes again - crushing it! The latest book in the Hart's Ridge series is just as good if not better than all the rest.  I feel so connected to this family, these characters  - I love the fact that this book really explores their feelings and any potential mental health issues they may have.  This family is so close and so REAL, it really just makes it so much fun to read these books.  Of course, there's a mystery- based on a real life story (and a horrible one at that), and Shane is pretty much left to solve it on his own, since Taylor is dealing with her own issues. [That woman needs some time off!!!!] But he gets it done, and of course she helps, but not without irritating her own husband..... This one really gets you in the feels.  If you haven't met this family, and read this series- what are you waiting for? Get on it! You won't be disappointed.

I can't believe this is #11 in this series. The whole series has just been fantastic. I definitely recommend reading from the beginning. The series of a continuation of the story of Deputy Taylor Gray, her family and the crimes in their small community.

Taylor is out of most of the action in this book. She has a new baby and is also recovering from an illness that she contracted in an undercover operation. She's still trying to run everything (especially her family) and do some background work for the case of four connected murders in her town. Her partner, Shane, is heading up this investigation.

I love Bratt's writing, no matter what she writes. Her characterization is superb and her plots are concise and usually blow my mind.

Thanks to the author for the copy. All thoughts are my own.

Wow! I inhaled this story in one sitting. This was my first book by Kay Bratt and clearly I have been missing out. While this is book 11 in the Hart’s Ridge series, I had no issues reading it as a standalone. (But now, of course, I’ve added books 1-10 to my TBR.) There’s a murder mystery (based on a true crime that is horrific – this isn’t a cozy mystery, fyi) and family drama and so much suspense that I was ignoring everything around me so that I could find out what happened. The writing is vivid and pulls you into the mystery immediately. I simply could not put it down. The characters are so well developed and I loved Taylor even when I wanted to yell at her to rest. I’m having trouble deciding what to read next – do I stick with my December TBR or do I throw caution into the wind and read anything by Kay Bratt I can get my hands on? A true sign that this is an excellent story. Five Stars.
