A simple ring couldn’t possibly grant the ability to time travel, could it? Lilyanna didn’t think so until she morphed through a mirror and found herself in a manor house on the shores of Loch Ness two hundred years in the past with golden eyes and a glittering tattoo. Crazy, right? However, for a foster child like Lilyanna, time traveling was a welcome change that gave her a loving, doting father, the Earl of Achmony, and a home she could call her own.
On the heels of her “father’s” death, the decree that she had to marry to keep the title of Countess of Achmony and her castle was a sucker punch she had hoped to avoid. Marriage? No, thank you. And why, on his deathbed, did he have to go and make the family friend, Lieutenant Davey, her guardian? He might play the guard dog role well, but he’s too cute to babysit her during her season in London.
Way too cute.
Davey found Lilyanna to be a gloriously beautiful thorn in his side—a thorn he wished to cling to and never let go of despite the suffering of a wounded soldier. But her father’s last wishes were No title-seeking fortune hunters were allowed. Lilyanna was out of reach for him, even though his heart had entwined with hers the moment he set eyes on her. Can he endure playing her matchmaker and watching her dance with the lucky fools who could never deserve her?
Would Lilyanna be able to escape an unwelcome engagement and still keep the only real home she knew and loved?
This book is a slow-burn, no-spice/sweet romance (kissing only) with some mild swearing. Triggers are the loss of a parent and feelings of rejection.
This was such a wonderful story 🥹 another perfect example of an indie author who should definitely be up there with the Julia Quinn’s & Colleen Hoover’s of the publishing world 👏🏻.
It was literally perfect: 💜 | A very feminine, but headstrong leading character who has no filter & never does anything expected (never ever! 😅) 💜 | Very intruiging background stories on all characters 💜 | Multiple POV’s (I’m obsessed with this, it gives as the unique opportunity to look into a certain person’s head & heart) 💜 | #bridgertonvibes - but with a modern time-traveling twist (if the books/style from Bridgerton are too heavy to begin with for you like they have been for me, I suggest you read this one first, it makes for a smooth transition 🥹🫶🏻) 💜 | #sweetromance #romancebehindcloseddoors - DON’T GET ME WRONG - I love a good smutty smut book as much as the next one 😉☺️😏, but it’s a nice change for once to focus on the sweet details of a relationship (& not necessarily make it a big, physical thing). Yeahhhh, this is a very unpopular opinion, but I don’t care 🤪. 💜 | Every book has its own lesson to transfer to its readers. In this one it’s obviously that you are & will always be loved - even if you don’t realize it 🫶🏻✨
The only thing I’m really sad about is that, in the end, we don’t know exactly how Lily(anna)’s life will turn out. Will she go back one day? Will she encounter more difficulties with people who come to know her secret? And the most important question: WILL SHE EVENTUALLY GET TO MEET NESSIE? 🤨🤨🤨
Thank you so much Christine, for sharing this story with us. I said it once & I’ll say it again: you can count on me to read the next 5 books in this series, because I’m obsessed 🥹😍💜🫶🏻.
What an incredibly beautiful and loving story. I flew through this book. It is very well written and I thought the story was very original. This is the first part of a series and definitely leaves you wanting more!
It is a book with a touch of mystery, romance and trust. The story is beautifully written. It has a nice build-up and a beautiful ending. I thought the story was very original, it has time travel as a theme, which I have not read before. It is a slow burn book, which I really enjoyed and thought it really suited this story. I had to get used to the writing style, the sentences were sometimes a bit old-fashioned because it took place in 1800.
I thought Lilyanna was a super sweet girl, who I really wanted to have a family. She was so caring towards her 'father' and the people around her. I thought Davey was a bit distant at first, but he soon became very sweet and very protective. I would have liked to know more about his past, that's the only thing I missed.

I like how this regency romance story is unique as it adds in a surprising element: A time traveling spunky leading lady, named Lilyanna. I enjoyed the banter and humor sprinkled throughout, especially with the modern day sayings being interpreted by the ton in society. It was heartwarming how Davey and Lilyanna were always meant to be-from the way they comforted each other, saw the best and worst of each other, and yet still lifted each other up-seeing their growth and strength was lovely journey! This is a story that will surprise you along the way, as it will tenderly evoke all the emotions along the way, making this a great story worth the read!🙌🏻📚☺️
“I will cherish you until all time blends into the next.”
I am SO thankful to have been able to be a part of reading and reviewing this book. This was my first book by Christina and it will not be my last. I loved it!
Lilyanna has struggled all her life to feel wanted and feel loved. When she happens upon a ring while cleaning, she finds out she can time travel. She is quickly transported to a time in the past. At first, it was a scary thing that is until she meets the man that will become her "Papa". For once someone loves her and wants her, and she chooses this time in the past to be her main residence. All is well until Papa becomes ill and she's left his estate ONLY if she marries! Papa sets up a guardian for her, to take care of her and make sure she goes to London and meets her match. Her guardian Davey is wonderful. He is respectful, kind, handsome, and totally smitten by her. But he is her guardian, so he has to push back those feelings and help her find her match. As he gets closer to Lilyanna he realizes she has a secret but she is guarding it closely. And as Lilyanna slowly starts getting closer to other suitors, Davey finds himself having to back away. There were only two people who loved her, and wanted her so completely.... her father, and Davey. But as Davey backs away and allows her to entertain others , Lilyannas heart is breaking.... Will she find her match to inherit the estate. Will her guardian leave once she's found her suitor, does she even want Davey to leave? Is he interested in someone else?
Should Lilyanna stay in this time (as she promised her father) or should she go back to the future... where she may not have Love, but will not have to be forced to marry?!
I absolutely loved this story. There are no words for how special this story was. I found myself at times in tears because the emotions were so great, and other times laughing because quite frankly Lilyanna is hilarious. Daveys character is so loving and patient, it's hard to not see what Lilyanna sees in him. I loved this story and I would love to read EVERY book in this series! 💜
I’ve read quite a few time-travel/time-slip novels recently and I have to say, this one feels so very unique! I loved everything about this story. I was drawn in from page one and could hardly put it down. This book is a dual-POV novel, told from the views of our MFC, Lilyanna, and our MMC, Lieutenant Davey. I loved the back-and-forth viewpoint and it helped move the story along. The romance in this novel was a slow burn and was so fun to watch unfold!
One of the unique aspects of this book was our main female character! There were many moments I found myself grinning from ear to ear from the words that often escaped from Lilyanna’s mouth. I’ve never seen such a character who was so truly themselves that you never knew what she would say or do next (proper or not!). Initially, it was a little offputting - she is 19 years old and you almost feel like she is too immature for her age. The more you read, however, the more you realize her back story and why she is the way she is. I also felt this gave us a unique opportunity to see her grow as we moved throughout the novel which I appreciated. I love seeing depth of character and Christine M. Walter did an amazing job at letting us look inside her character’s hearts and minds!
This book grapples with some deep subjects such as foster care (and their safety), adoption, and the long-term impact of such things on a person’s life. I felt as if it was beautifully done and tastefully shown without being too overboard. Overall this was a super fun book to read and I can’t wait for the others to release in the series!
Thanks to the author’s generosity, I was given a free e-copy to read and review. All opinions expressed in this review are truly my own.
Content warnings: While this is a clean read (kissing only), there is mild cussing (around 8 to 10 times), one of the main characters drinking until drunk (to escape physical pain - happening only once), mention of abuse suffered as a child (non-descriptive/barely above non-descriptive), loss of a parent, and feelings of rejection.
Time travel is hard one for me to read. Especially when I’m trying to temper what year the characters are in, but this book doesn’t switch on me so harshly. I think this why I throughly enjoyed reading it. The characters mostly stay in one time period not quickly jumping through time. Yes, the main FMC does talk of the future or things she does ember of the future. But everyone around her just chalks it up to her being from America. Which let’s face it back then probably made a lot of sense.
The romance was a slow burn! I just wanted them to speak to each other!!! The small gestures he did, the way she seemed him out as her saftey, had me swooning. The romance was enticing in this book and the time travel was a nice little secret that was an excellent underlining plot. It added so much more to the story, but the romance itself could have been a standalone and been excellent as well. If you’re looking for clean regency romance with a time traveling element I would recommend this as a read!
Content: * Slight foul language ( a** hat, no f-word) * Kiss only * Talk of abandonment * Talk of foster care
I received this book as anARC in exchange for an HONEST review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and are not persuaded in any way.
This book was such a breath of fresh air with a hint of nostalgia. I used to love reading Barbara Cartland's books, all about Earls and Dukes and this book definitely gave me some of those vibes.
The writing in the book was so good that I kept flipping the pages and the emotions so raw that I actually fed a few tears when Lil's father passed away, it's been a long time since that happened to me while reading a book.
The slow burn was so good that I nearly jumped at the end with delight and the element of time travel added a nice touch to the whole book. It was important enough for the book and yet it didn't overshadow the story.
The characters have my heart. Lil and Davey are way too cute but also so much more, the way Lil still had insecurities after so many years tore at my heart and the way Davey would do anything for her, kept mending it.
I am glad to have the opportunity to read this book. The series has 5 more to go and I am up for them.
I received an advance copy of the book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was such a joy to read! I loved the romance and the suspense. This was a time travel to the regency era. I liked how it depicted the deferences between Scotland and England in terms of inheriting and how the author tied that into the bigger story.
I was surprised with where the author took the story. I loved how instead of it being about a modern girl who ends up in another time period, it is about a modern girl who was already trying to adjust to living in regency era Scotland. I love how Lilyanna has learned to fit in to the regency era yet still remembers the time she came from.
This was a sweet kisses romance. It had a bit of death and struggles with abandonment. Overall I really enjoyed this book.
This was an emotional regency read. After losing her adoptive father, Lilyanna sets out on a season in London in order to find a husband. Her newly appointed guardian and brother figure, Davey, goes along to protect her from the fortune hunters. Davey quickly falls in love with Lilyanna, but since he is not of the same station, he feels he cannot marry her. Lilyanna just wants to be with someone who wants her for her instead of her money. I enjoyed the relationship between Davey and Lilyanna throughout the story. It was very endearing and it's perfect for those who love a very slow burn.
Thanks so much, Christine, for giving me an ARC of your book! All opinions are my own.
I gave this book four stars - I would recommend it, and really enjoyed it, but it probably isn't one I'll read over and over.
The author is a BRILLIANT story teller - I cried so many times. Happy tears, sad tears. The pace of the story was great, and I felt like the characters were very, very believable.
What distracted me were the MANY typos. Some of them were humorous, mostly just a little distracting. Obviously, I loved the story - I read it in one afternoon. But there were a lot of instances where the author correctly spelled the wrong words. (Wane instead of wan, for example. My favorite was stollen instead of stolen.)
This book takes the popular regency romance and turns it on its head by adding in a surprise element: a time traveling leading lady, Lilyanna.
I’ll get right to the point: I couldn’t put this book down! My heart simply couldn’t handle the sweet romance on each and every page. I loved the sweet plot, the dynamic characters, and the immersive world!
Lilyanna is sorting through old treasures in her current foster parents house when she stumbles upon a ring. Upon slipping the ring on her finger she watches as it disappears leaving a gold tattoo in its wake. She inspects the ring in a nearby mirror and finds herself transported in time…to the Regency Period. She meets an older gentleman who becomes her adopted father. Years later, Lilyanna is left to inherit the Earl of Achmony’s wealth and castle, but only if she marries. Davey, a long time friend of her adoptive father, is left to serve as a guardian to Lilyanna. However, his feelings towards the spunky, kind, and loving young woman make things difficult. Especially since he promised her father that no fortune hunting men could court her, and Davey believes that as a former soldier he is to be included in the fortune hunting category. Even though the only thing he cares about is Lilyanna’s well-being and heart.
Firstly, I absolutely adored this story! And not just because the main character, Lilyanna shares the same name (albeit spelled differently) as my own daughter, Liliana. I loved seeing the banter and humor sprinkled throughout, especially with the modern day sayings being interpreted by the Ton. Davey and Lilyanna were always meant to be-from the way they comforted each other, saw the best and worst of each other, and yet still lifted each other up-it was so beautiful to watch.
I highly recommend this time travel regency romance and I am impatiently awaiting book 2!
Romance Content: Closed Door, Kisses and Attraction Mildly Descriptive
TW: Abandonment, Trauma, Attempted Sexual Assualt (Non-Descriptive), Loss of Loved Ones
A sweet regency romance with time travel. The romance between time traveler and her young guardian was a slow burn and sweet. There are triggers of swearing and childhood trauma. I give this book 3.5 stars just for the hesitation of language.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book and all opinions expressed are my own and freely given.
This was such a sweet story. I had a great time reading this. It is a light, cozy read, and I throughly enjoyed it. The writing style is great and very easy to get immersed in. I think if you like Bridgerton then I think you’ll like this! I was fortunate enough to receive an arc copy of this book, but the opinions above are my own!:)
What a fun read! This was a really unique time travel romance. When I started reading Lilyanna said several modern words I thought the author made a mistake- I quickly realized it was someone from a different time that was speaking. Lilyanna was a delightful character. I loved getting to know her. This book had romance, humor and some sad parts too. All-in-all it was a great read.
Five stars, different, it does wove the past with the future. Lillyanna had serious twenty first century baggage. Abandoned by her mother and foster homes. Somehow she ends up with a ring that becomes a tattoo. And she is able to time travel through mirrors. It was through those travels. She finds a family, and love.

Our main character Lilyanna time travels to the early 1800th century in Scotland. From there, we are taken to about 8 years in the future when Lily is 18 and will need to be entering society. After her father’s death, her care is intrusted to Davey, her father’s honorary son. It is his job to endure that she finds a husband to secure the estate left to her, but no fortune hunters
This was such an enjoyable story. Not only do we get a great regency romance, but add in time travel, a feminine heroine with no filter, and all those who she meets along the way, and you have a fascinating story that will keep you hooked from the beginning.
This is a slow-burn, no-spicel sweet romance (kissing only) with some mild swearing.
***TW*** loss of a parent, feelings of rejection
I read this as an arc and all thoughts/opinions are my own. Thank you to Christine Walter for the arc 🫶
