«تاريخ الفن السينمائي» هو الكتاب الأكثر شهرة في تاريخ الفن السينمائي في العالم لمؤلفه المؤرخ والناقد السينمائي الفرنسي "جورج سادول".
وهذا الكتاب يلخص تجارب عالم عظيم، هو جورج سادول الذي رافق فيه السينما العالمية منذ نشأتها حتى اليوم، ويجمع أهم الدراسات العالمية في مجال فن السينما فضلاً عن أنه يلقي أضواء فنية وتاريخية وانتقادية على نشأة هذا الفن وتجاربه. وفي هذا العمل يدرس جورج سادول فن السينما من حيث أنه فن من الفنون مرتبط ارتباطاً وثيقاً بالصناعة والإقتصاد، والمجتمع، والفنون الآلية، وتاريخ السينما وأدوارها الستة.
يضم الكتاب ستة أقسام هي: -القسم الأول: "اختراع الالات وتطور الإخراج"، وقد بدأ سنة 1832 وانتهى سنة 1896؛ القسم الثاني "تطور السينما في بلدان أوروبا وأميركا (1895- 1908) وهو دور الممهدين حيث تأسست الصناعة ووضعت أسس الفن من ماكس ليندر إلى شارلي شابلن، القسم الثالث "من الإزدهار السويدي إلى بناء هوليود" وينتهي بانتهاء الحرب العالمية الأولى وهو الدور الذي أصبحت فيه السينما فناً، وتوطدت وضعيتها بواسطة الصناعة الكبيرة، القسم الرابع "من السينما الناطقة إلى الرسوم المتحركة" وهو دور الفن الصامت، الفصل الخامس "من التفتح السوفياتي إلى التيارات الجديدة في أميركا وأوروبا" ويبدأ بسيطرة الفليم الناطق، وينتهي مع بداية الحرب العالمية الثانية، القسم السادس "سينما نصف القرن –تفنيات وتيارات جديدة" ويشمل تواريخ أبرز الأفلام والسينمائيين بين 1892- 1954 فترة الحرب العالمية الثانية والسنوات التي تلتها.
تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب من كونه يشكل بالنسبة للإختصاصين من فنيين ومخرجين وطلاب فنون ومثقفين، مرجعاً مهماً لا غنى عنه يحتوي على صور كثيرة تبين نشأة هذا الفن وتطروه، ومعلومات مفصلة عن جميع الإختبارات السينمائية في جميع بلدان العالم.

I didn't read this 3 (4?) volume edition, but the Martins one that is divided into 2 volumes. I couldn't find that version here, so I'll just use this one instead. Anyways, it was a really good read. I was expecting to get a more european perspective on early film history and that's pretty much what I got. Granted, a lot of it I already knew in general, but the book provied lots of details that I wasn't aware of. This coupled with Ramsaye's book really provided me with some great info on silent history

It was fun to see what stuff he DIDN'T talk about, and what filmmakers he saw as important that we nowadays don't care much about. It was precisely for this kind of dated perspective that I decided to read these early film histories, it helps me understand how the canon changed through the years

I'll say I was a bit disappointed by how little he wrote about non-Europe/US stuff, but honestly I shouldn't be surprised. Granted, he does promise to delve more into those in the second volume, so we'll see

Esta obra se estructura en 37 capítulos en los cuáles el historiador cinematográfico francés relata minuciosamente el acontecer y evolución del cine mundial hasta finales de la década de los 60´s, tiempo en que feneció. Todo nace del fenómeno de la persistencia retiniana lo que posibilitó las primeras tentativas de proyección con la invención de aparatos como la rueda de Faraday o el taumátropo hasta los últimos avances. Podemos asentir que la industria del film se afianza con el advenimiento del cine hablado en los años 30´s, sin embargo no hay que minusvalorar algunas creaciones de Fritz Lang, Chaplin, Buñuel, Eisenstein, ente otros que Sadoul ensalza y que a mi opinión permanecerán en la memoria colectiva.

Ya en la época contemporánea, producto de los cambios políticos y culturales aparecen escuelas y movimientos como el realismo poético francés (Renoir, Vigo, Cocteau, Clément) o el neorrealismo italiano (Vittorio de Sica, Fellini, Rossellini) , enseguida recorre el orbe e indaga en los sucesos de los países europeos, asiáticos, africanos, oceánicos y americanos. Finalmente enuncia adyacentemente el progreso de la técnica cinematográfica y los films animados que gracias al procedimiento de vuelta de manivela en los talleres de Vitagraph en 1907 pudieron realizarse bajo esta forma alternativa de expresión utilizando recursos pictóricos y gráficos. También se adhiere un apartado en donde se hace énfasis en temas más específicos como el Nouvelle vague, el cine político y erótico y el nuevo cine latinoamericano para glosar finalmente los libros consultados, investigaciones, cronologías y una serie de estadísticas e índices nacionales.

Un libro crucial para comprender a fondo la universalización de este arte para aquel cinéfilo de corazón.

This is indeed one of the very best books about the history of Cinema. Of course it stops being useful for films made after the early 60's.
Sadoul's expertise is amazing never really understand how he could have watched so many films in an age when neither VHS nor DVD were available...
