Book one, “Saturday Night in the Trailer Park” provided the foundation of the Frankie girl we’ve come to know. As book two unravels we see Frankie’s shell chipping away. “Saturday Night in Paris” gives readers a character that possesses confidence and surety in herself, but the lonely little girl, with so much on her shoulders, lies ever present beneath the surface.
This second in the series takes us to France as Frankie and Todd’s relationship develops ever further. Opening herself to love, Frankie’s blossoming relationship with Todd feels authentic and vulnerable. Yet as he forces the WG55 project on her, planning a genealogy tour of France through the Burgundy region to visit the small town of Pommard, where Frankie’s French ancestry possibly resides, her protests fall on deaf ears. WG55, developed by Todd’s MIT friends, aims to map out all genealogical lineages worldwide within 55 years, but Todd’s excitement for the project fails to grasp the emotions Frankie has surrounding her family. And, while I loved the ancestorial French connections, the fragility of Frankie still lies at the surface of it all.
Paris, France, and Frankie’s French connection ignite the opening of this read, but it is the burgeoning friendship with Kat, cancer, death, adoption, life changes, and the responsibilities that continue to plague Frankie that make this such a monumental book. Frankie’s friendships, kindness, caring, ability to listen, and tenacious attitude make her such a profound sister, friend, auntie, partner, and employee.
Author Kae Wagner creates her characters with such depth. The qualities, traits, attributes, and personalities of each set them apart. For instance, Kat doesn’t just bring a much-needed friend to Frankie, she injects a personality of resilience, determination, and her fierce fight for justice, while offering representation to those with prosthetics. Marla, who also embraces her prosthesis, offers a child’s energy as her military family seeks to adapt to their life in Philadelphia. Both connect to Frankie in powerful ways that show readers her own maturation and growth from her tumultuous upbringing. As death, adoption, life changes and responsibilities continue to scourge this read, Frankie steps into herself as her growth and strength shine through.
The genealogy and French connections made this a quick read as Frankie struggles with her own history and her pending adoption of Rocky. Old characters come back in new ways as Frankie remains ever persistent in her role as protector, continuing to embrace the qualities of redemption and forgiveness taught to her by Mr. Bailer.

This book is as good as the 1st one.. I really thought Frankie was going to hook up with Sam, I'm excited to find out what happens with Frankie & Alex... I'm super excited about the Sheriff & Kat. Now off to start 3 ❤️

Frankie's story continues with some unexpected twists & turns as she is now an adult in her early 20's. Just like book 1 it has held my attention and been a pleasure to read! I can't wait to dive into Book #3!

This follow-up to Saturday Night at the Trailer Park was an epic failure in my opinion. There was so much focus on cataloging the whole world's DNA and on Professor Todd and his obsession with delving into Frankie's ancestry.
Sometimes a writer should just stop after the first book and call it good.
