After being attacked by the violent man her brother wants her to marry, Jedda-Lyn Cross knows she has to escape. But options are limited in the small western town where she lives – her attacker’s family is rich and the sheriff is corrupt, and helping her is a risk nobody will take. If she wants her freedom, she’s going to have to find it herself. She flees in the middle of the night, penniless, and without a horse, disguised as a boy, planning to hire on with the north-bound cattle drive, led by the famous trail boss Wes Jordan. When her disguise is blown, instead of sending her away, the handsome trail boss vows to protect her. This is easier said than done, though, because Jedda-Lyn is sassy, headstrong and stubborn, with a reckless disregard for her personal safety that finally pushes Wes too far. After a painful punishment that leaves her bottom burning and her mind whirling, the attraction between them is undeniable, and Jedda wants nothing more than to stay in the arms of the handsome cowboy. But her relentless former suitor won’t let her go without a fight. With danger closing in, it will take all the men and guns of the cattle drive outfit to protect her, and give her a chance at true love. And even then, it may not be enough.
Kelly Dawson is a USA Today bestselling author who pens naughty novels from her home in southern New Zealand. Rural NZ provides plenty of inspiration for romantic stories, and this is where most of Kelly's books are set.
Inside the pages, sparks will fly, and spanks will fall as her sexy alpha heroes tame the strong, independent women who love them. Throw in some drama and angst, and you have the makings of a Kelly Dawson romance. She thoroughly enjoys bringing 'all the feels' to life on the page.
When she's not writing, Kelly devotes her time to her 4 children and her very own romance novel hero - her husband.
What are readers saying about Kelly's books? ~ "Kelly Dawson always surprises me with the personality of each Daddy in her novels." ~ "Kelly's stories are always a great read." ~ "Obeying Daddy is just right for a light summertime read if you like a little spanking in your romance." ~ "Completely and utterly taken captive by this story. It was EVERYTHING!!" ~ "This story had all the feels I've come to expect from a Kelly Dawson book." ~ "The steamy scenes had me fanning my face."
I loved reading The Code of the West, all about Jedda-Lyn Cross a twenty-two year old girl & Westin Jordan the Cattle Drive Master. Jedda is on the run because her brothers best friend punched her in the face and tried to have his way with her being out cold on the floor. Her brother Neil who is a drunk insists on her marrying Calvin, irregardless of what he's done to her! She cuts her hair and joins the cattle drive as a boy named Jed! The author wrote a story about a brave and proud girl who just wants to to things her way, irregardless of the consequences, which tend to get her into trouble! Everything I've read by this author is amazing, she tells a story with such compassion that you can't put the book down until it's finished.
I'm willing to concede an extra star under the guise that historical western spanking fiction just may not be my thing, but all of that aside, this is just not well written. It feels like a college student's idea of what historical western spanking fiction would be like. A very young college student.
A simple good story. The concept of a woman hiding as a man and the challenges she faces is not new but here it is well written and interesting to read. The love scenes were intense and the spanking and the events after were quite hot. All in all, enjoyable
I was glued to the pages of The Code of The West. I had to know what would happen to Jedda and if Wes would really stop at nothing to protect her. As I kept reading I laughed, cried, and rooted for Jedda. She runs away under the disguise of a 14 year old boy on the brink of becoming a man to provide for his family. She knows that she could be found out but it is a risk worth taking. Especially when her only other option is to marry the man that almost raped her.
Wes is furious when discovers that "Jed" is actually Jedda. He has a hard time being okay with the fact that he has been pushing her so hard. He falls for her quickly willing to stop at nothing to keep Cal from finding her.
I love reading Dawson's work. I know I'll be in for an adventure and on the edge of my seat. She has instilled a love of Western's in me and I can't wait to read more from her!
I really enjoyed this book! I was drawn in from page one and could not put it down until I finished it. The storyline is believable and as I read I became more and more invested in the characters and had to know what was going to happen next. Very nicely done and I look forward to another by this author. I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an Advanced Reader Copy.
