one thing that i love about haikyuu is the author's ability to write the story in such a way that i'm attached to pretty much every team we meet like right now, even though i know the outcome of the match, i honestly want both teams to win
Wow wow wow. They really ended on a CLIFF HANGER? Bout to pick up volume 33 as soon as I get home. I'm literally so so so proud of my fictional volleyball son. Honestly nobody talk to me. I'm just over here getting chills and crying over sports manga.
I always enjoy Furudate's little post-chapter extras, but this volume's of a guy wondering if sweet, gentle, anxious Asahi ever "killed a guy, like, with his bare hands" really cracked me up. I can just imagine what Asahi's terrified reaction would be if he knew, poor guy.
to think this volume had me ACTUALLY CRYING IN THE BATHROOM edit: twice. it had me crying IN THE BATHROOM twice. over two different people. TWICE. edit2: thrice. i cried again. THIS VOLUME HAD ME CRYING IN MY BATHROOM THRICE. edit3: again. again. again. i cried the fourth time. i dont think this has ever happened to me. i take it back. i take it all back when i said the s3 match was my favourite. nope. this volume takes the cake of one of the best books i have read, graphic or otherwise.
i have absolutely no words that was phenomenal IT ENDED SO WELL ??? uhmmm i’m sleeping right after i post this but OH MY GOD ? kageyama and hinata GO CRAZY. IM SO PROUD OF THEM
it’s currently 1 am right now and wow... wow... this was so emotional and exciting... i cried so much when hinata received the ball 😭 it was such a powerful and happy moment

This counts as my review for the whole Haikyuu!! manga
”You don’t win alone. That’s just how it is.”
READ FOR: best character developments and themes that I have ever encountered READING LEVEL: Level 1-3 out of 5
*All of my reviews are as spoiler-free as possible unless stated otherwise*
I don’t think I’ll ever have enough words to express how much I love this manga and anime series but I’ll try anyway. But I just need to make it known that this has changed my view in anime and manga forever. I caught up with this manga in the last 30 or so chapters but I won’t say much to avoid spoilers... but it was crazy.
It made me laugh, cry, fall in love, think, and honestly... what else do you need in a series? I can keep going on and on about this series but honestly I think you should just read it for yourself. I really don't think you'll regret it.
When someone asks me what the plot is, honestly, all I can say is “they play volleyball” HAHAHA… but it’s so much more than that.
PLOT: ★★★★★ The plot was so well thought of from the very beginning and when I re-read the manga I can’t believe the amount of foreshadowing Furudate actually placed. My mind was so blown… I just. No words. I am seriously in love.
ART STYLE: ★★★★★ The art style… *chef’s kiss* especially in the later arcs. There were so many matches but even then Furudate never failed to leave me breathless at each one.
CHARACTERS: ★★★★★ The character development here is THE BEST. HANDS DOWN. that I have ever come across. I fell in love with the so many characters in this series that I did not even think that was possible.
The character relationships... the character dynamics... their mindsets... they are all so perfectly well done and realistic GAHHHH I've said this so many time throughout this review BUT THEY JUST MADE ME FALL IN LOVE SO EASILY. I can't pick my favourite one but hinata and kageyama just hold a special place in my heart.
This connects to the themes but my favourite thing that was done with the characters here was that each one of them embodied a theme or a message that the author wanted to get across. Those are spoilers so I won’t really talk about it but just know that it was one of the main reasons that made me go so crazy about this series.
*cough* hinata kageyama atsumu sakusa bokuto kita noya ushijima tendou tsukki suga kenma kuroo *cough* +++
Note: if you think this series is focused on only 1 team... you're in it for A RIDEEEEEE
I'm getting chills just looking at and remembering these panels ^^
THEMES: ★★★★★ Honestly I basically thought the themes were just gonna be “teamwork” and “friendship”… while it is all that, Furudate sensei was able to make it even deeper. And the symbolisms? You are not ready.
I think the one that was focused on the most was “It’s not always about winning, it’s about growth”. But there were also so many smaller things that lead up to that bigger point: (1) we get our strength from others, (2) but you also need to make yourself dependable, (3) there is always room for improvement, (4) working hard is good but overworking yourself isn’t, (5) you are built on the small things you do everyday, (6) an ace's back should be an inspiration to your teammates (hi bokuto), (7)+++
The way I wrote it was very straight to the point but I was amazed at how Furudate tackled the so many messages that I received from this series.
PACING: ★★★★★ THE TIMING. OF EVERYTHING. JUST MAKES SENSE.
It’s so realistic that I want to cry. (I actually already did… a lot of times.)
PAGE TURNER: ★★★★★
You should understand that I made this review weeks after I finally calmed down about this series cuz I was really going crazy about it HAHAHA if you have finished this series too or met me while I was reading this, you know what I’m talking about ;)
I'll keep this series close to my heart until the grave. You cannot convince me otherwise.
I hate sports and rarely watch them in any form. But this manga/anime is amazing and I've enjoyed every moment. It's starting to become my go-to anime/manga recommendation for newbies. It's utterly thrilling. You can tell the author really enjoys volleyball.
Seems the next book will be the end of this game, moving on to the next arc.
Thanks to this book, I'm pretty sure I know how the anime will be broken up (in arcs) when it returns this fall. THE HYPE IS REAL.
In this volume, Hinata proved once again that he is an awesome character! And...I guess that's all I really have to say. 😁
Favorite moments:
-Hinata digging the ball! -Kageyama pretending he didn't see the dig. -When Tsukki and Kageyama both insist the botched spike was their fault. -Oikawa!!!
That was one action, intense-filled volume! WOW! Like there was SO much stuff that happened, that I don't even know if I could capture it all in a review!
The one thing I will say is that it had a PERFECT ending! Hands down, one of the best! Absolutely loved loved loved it!!
Last volume, I was totally Team Kita and that still stands because we got SO much more of him and absolutely loved it! I loved the "rant" he did at the end and just how much he respects his team and other "monster" players. I also loved how he mentions them being mortal and attending the monster ball (and how lucky that is). Second also, I loved the brief "competition" between him and Daichi. It wasn't spoken exactly, but it was there and while I love Kita, Daichi is "my man" and was proud of him. (Proud of both of them really!)
While it's such a small thing, I LOVED how Aran backed the statement of saying he couldn't call himself the ace if he couldn't be good at offense AND defense. Tora from the Nekoma team said that to Lev in previous volumes and just absolutely loved that resonance from another ace.
This truly was an epic volume! I LOVED how we got one of the BEST scenes concerning Hinata and all that he learned from the volleyball camp he crashed. That one page with past panels was SO good and gave me goosebumps. Also, everything with Tanaka was just as moving as it was in the anime if not more so. I especially loved when Tanaka is saying that wasn't encouragement he received from a certain player, but a threat. (Saying no more on that due to spoilers. That's vague enough it should be fine. LOL!)
OH! I might have not been a fan of Tsukki in earlier volumes, but yeah, this volume confirmed that I really love his character! His growth is just as exceptional as Kageyama's!
god forgive me i’m fucking obsessed with inarizaki’s concept their motto is just [gasp] [chills] [redacted] it’s so absolute & forceful & D A R K & the way they culminated from the twins’ dope ass freak-quick switch to that two-page spread of their opponents, their audience, their cheer-squad, & their members under their banner WAS ART AND THAT’S MY FINAL WORD
i cannot stress enough how my karasubabies playing in the snow has wrecked my soul i would just like to point out that KAGS WITH A BUN THE SHAPE OF HIS HEAD IN HIS MOUTH
s-s-shoyo’s perfect receive AAURRTGSHH he is just sunshine & such a floofer that after kinning him so hard for so long i don’t know how to bear it now someone help
KITA OH MY GOD EVERY VOLUME HE JUST EMOTIONALLY ASSASSINATES ME it’s like we’re the mortals who got invited to a monsters’ ball ain’t that the luckiest thing WHY IS HE ALSO SO SOFT-HEARTED & FANCIFUL & P E R F E C T god he has the twins for kids & it definitely shows
THIS IS 100% ONE OF THE BEST VOLUMES. IM ACTUALLY A BIT BAFFLED. I JUST. WOW. THAT ENDING WAS SO ?;&;!;!
hinata never fails to amaze honestly watching him throughout this game is so..... wow. and the last bit with him and tsukki,,,,, i think i’ve died.
I REALLY LOVE HOW THE FOCUS SHIFTS FROM PLAYER TO PLAYER TO PLAYER TO PLAYER. ITS SO GREAT SEEING HOW THEY ADAPT THEIR PLAYS AND SUCH. i’m a bit gone for tanaka right now. i think he is so cool. and daichi.... GASPS KITA THINKING HES GOT DAICHI ALL FIGURED OUT AND HE JUST.... attacks. FAINTS.
i’m so sorry to anyone that is reading this, usually my hq reviews are somewhat readable but this is appalling even by my standards.
okay, tanaka is not my fave but he's got me. inarizaki tho? what a team. they might be my favorite after karasuno KITA ! iloveyou SO MUCH. That is a captain right there and the TWINS BACKSTORY AND HOW INTENSE ATSUMU IS? thank you
you can feel the excitement and tension in those last chapters omg

At this point of time, no one can afford to break their focus. Both the teams are displaying aggression and have cleared their intentions that they're here to win. One of the main focus of this arc is on the clash between two extra-ordinary setters.

Wooohoo!! Hinata's big moment is here! Gahd, I love his skills and competitiveness and pride, together with Kageyama. They have got to be the best pair!
Oh, and I love Oikawa's cameo! Nakakamiss ang pettiness nya hahaha!
OOF! The stakes keep on getting higher and I am LIVING for it. That cliffhanger couldn't have come at a better time with some great character development from Furudate (and something I didn't see coming). Let's end this game with a bang next volume, boys!
