Immortal Descent #2

Midnight Reign

I thought I knew darkness. I was wrong.

I stand at the precipice of two worlds - one I'm destined to inhabit as a creature of the night and the other I have to leave behind.

But MistHallow has fallen and my fellow students are disappearing into the night. A sinister faction rises. As the boundaries between light and dark blur, I step deeper into the abyss, I feel myself changing. The woman I was is fading, replaced by something... more. Something dangerous.

The reign of shadows has only just begun.

This was a ride. And not a satisfactory one. There's revelation after revelation without any sense and the reader is just hit again and again straight on the face without any respite.

The FMC doesn't accept her destiny and while I understand how she feels, it's frustrating.

The MMC's are supposedly the bad guys but they're somehow portrayed ambiguosly and even nicely by the FMC and the narrative. I don't understand.

A roller coaster ride of a read with start to finish with all of the devilishly brilliant plot twists and turns. It definitely kept me on my toes trying to keep up with it all (which I'm struggling to keep out of this review) and even now that I've finished reading it I'm still processing everything that happened in it. Plenty of action and steam as well as cliffhanger ending that made me want to drop kick my kindle (lol) but my word I'm dying to get my hands on book 3 now.

The cliff hangers my sweet lord have mercy..
The ability Eve has to pour her magic into each page is beyond comprehension but yet she does it with ease.
After Addys betrayal I was biting my nails so hard no knowing where this would go, but as always every twist and turn is Well worth it. Her bonds with her men grow stronger, she proves she isn’t a woman to be played with.
All the emotions you could ever want play out on theses pages. I can not wait for book three

In this second book Addy and her men Ignatius, Corvus, Zephyr and Zariah are closer than ever to finding out the truth behind her destiny’s! This book was the perfect amount of edge of your seat mystery behind the plot and hotter than hot spice! You will never guess who is behind everything and who exactly Crimson shadow is, I can’t wait to find out what will happen to everyone in book 3!

Really liked book 1. Dnf this barely into the book, like you almost died, don't feel even half human anymore and your solution for the Rollercoaster of emotions is a group session of what is essentially torture p**n. Nope. Can't. To each their own🤷‍♀️ just not me.

I highly enjoyed the first book. This book I started out still enjoying. But the main character went from growth to stage one. I hate going backwards from character growth. Making stupid decisions kills my interest. I fully believe there are ways to continue a series without killing the character growth and making them dumb.

She literally had a dream of her future self that told her what to do. Embrace her dark, her light, and come to an understanding with Crimson. She proceeds to ignore said advice. At no point do we see her talk it out with Crimson. She goes straight to the ritual to separate herself from Crimson.

And the guys? Equally dumb. After the ritual does everything Crimson wants which wasn't what they wanted or expected they grab a book to help Adelaide but Orby tells them not to that the book won't help. That Adelaide is where she needs to be. They ignore him and use the book which has The Void take over Adelaide's body.

And Adelaide? The very end shows her lack of growth. She's in someplace that isn't the netherworld I don't think but obviously isn't earth realm. If she's right where she is supposed to be according to Orby then why is Crimson winning? Adelaide is just listening to her BS and letting it make her weak. Telling Adelaide she's just a weak human but we know at this point Adelaide was never human her mother is a celestial. But Adelaide just forgets it all and is all woe is me. Just falls for everything Crimson tells her and shows her. No backbone to be seen.

Character assassination wasn't necessary. My imagination easily plotted ways this series could have continued without this atrocity. But alas character assassination was committed. I won't be tuning into the next book.

I thought by delaying this review until after I went to sleep I would be able to sort my thoughts but I am not sure I can. I don't know why this series bothers me. Addy of course returns with her favorite word "fuck" but at least we don't see it as much in this book. There were some interesting things that happen like Addy has a voice in her head who is a powerful and trying to take over. While I really like the MMC, they're supposed to be all powerful also and they don't seem to handle themselves well in some situations. You don't get enough of their personalities I don't think aside from the all consuming thoughts of Addy. I do root for a obsessed, love-sick MMC but it feels inauthentic at times. While this one was better than the first, it is still a little too basic and repetitive for me. I want more depth, exploration of characters, back story. The touch on the fact that their dads sucked but then don't explain it more so as the reader we say okay and move on. I want to know about Zephyr's relationship with his dad. I want to know why Addy doesn't like to be touched. These things matter and by book two it still isn't laid out which means it's too far removed from the introduction of the issue to talk about it now. But alas, I will be finishing the series because the world is going to end and I wanna see it. (In book, obviously...)

This was too convoluted. Information is constantly being thrown at you and then changed. Since Addy and her men have no idea what’s going on, we learn as they do and only have their guesses to go on. Unfortunately they guess wrong over and over again. I can’t even blame them for guessing wrong because they know absolutely nothing. The information is drip fed to them, so it is drip fed to us. Every new piece of info seems to change who the villain is and what is actually going on. Eventually I was practically begging for a bit info dump.

My complains about the first book continued. We still never meet any more students. Addy still has no personality. We don’t really learn anything about the characters. Both Corvus and Zephyr are afraid of their fathers, but the interactions we see with their fathers aren’t bad at all. We are left to assume they are evil just because Corvus and Zephyr say so. Ignatius is the only student part of a mysterious Order that protects. Why? Was he chosen? And how has no one mentioned that the order’s name is the same name of the being inside Addy, Crimson Shadow?

When I began book 1, I thought the series was going to go into a direction that relied on Addy being a Vesper. A war would break out, and the 4 guys and Addy would have to unite. Addy increasing their power would make them a formidable unit. This would have been a better story. Instead of Addy housing some mysterious other being.

The first book was good, but this one has left me feeling pissed off at Adelaide's stupidity.

I enjoyed the first book, but this one has been incredibly irritating. It feels like Addy complains too much in this book. I feel like she constantly says that she didn't ask for any of this. Someone needs to tell her to get over it. There were times when she would finally get a backbone, but then she would lose it, and go back to whining and begging. The end was when I was most irritated with her. She kept telling Crimson & Randell that they didn't know what they were doing as if she expected them to suddenly grow a conscience. Addy repeatedly tells Crimson that she's not going to let her do this, and yet she doesn't do much to stop her. I kept thinking that she was going to remember her "dream" about the version of herself that had excepted both the light and dark. That version of Addy told her what she needed to do, yet Addy didn't do it. She didn't even tell the guys about it. Another thing that pisses me off is that there's no real physical description of Addy except that she has long black hair, extremely pale skin, and dark eyes. There's nothing about her height or her body type etc. When I read books I need to be able to picture the FMC to the T, but I can't do that with Addy because there's not enough of a description. I'm hoping book 3 will be better.

still worth ready but unsure what to think

Still entertaining and will finish in hopes it gets better since a lot is still left to unravel even more so now BUT Gotta say. I’m more confused that ever which I guess is good in a plot twist kind of way. Once you think they have direction of what’s going on they don’t and so on. Certainly have to pay attention to finer details but keeps you on your toes. HOWEVER Adelaide is getting on my nerves and getting really tired of the guys “we got you” but are useless too many times to count. All Adelaide’s less annoying moments are when she’s Crimson and the real Adelaide is pouty and even when she gets direction always chooses to “wing it” because she wants to act first process later? Then “oh that went wrong” like nooooo you don’t say. (Rubbing temples) unlike the other academy’s this schools “ancient guardians” and magical prowess has left a lot wanting as well as depth. I was really thinking mist hallow was going to be more epic than the others given the beings it houses but again the series isn’t finished yet so I’ll hold out hope. If I hadn’t read other Eve series I would have DNF’d BUT she hadn’t let me down yet. Still a whole book to go.

Bro, what 🤌🏻 the 🤌🏻 fuck???

It’s getting a little tough to follow and a little boring. After being stabbed by her father, she transformed into a full fledged vampire and he escaped through a portal. She survived, but now she has a voice in her head called crimson shadow, which also happens to be the name of the order who came to her rescue in book one, but that’s never brought up and the order isn’t mentioned again. The guys are all worried about this voice as she is trying to take over Addy’s life. Crimson seems to make her stronger, but at what cost. The book is about her trying to find away to separate herself from crimson without crimson destroying the world. In the end, it’s all about a choice Addy has to make and it’s confusing as it doesn’t seem to be a choice. And Zephyrs father and her father are on Crimsons side and want her to reign as queen. It seems at the end that Randall, her father, is going to sacrifice her to open the portal for him and crimson but something snatches Addy away at the last minute.

Hated it

Adelaide is just so incompetent that I am constantly cringing. Creatures show up and she freezes. Her guys constantly have to defend her because she has absolutely no skills at all. She's constantly the maiden in distress having to be saved by her knights and I am hating it. Crimson got one thing right...Adelaide is nothing without her.
I don't really get why Randall wants to get into the netherworld. I really don't get how Adelaide and Crimson started sharing a body. None of that makes any sense. What happened to all the professors that left? Where is Adelaide's grandfather (I forget his name)? If Adelaide's mom knew any of this was possible, why didn't she talk to her daughter about it and teach her anything?

I skimmed through a lot of this book. I want to see if anything worthwhile will happen in the next book, so I will skim through it. I'm not holding out much hope though. I had high hopes after the first book, but after reading this one I really don't care what happens to Adelaide. She deserves it for being weak and codependent.

DNF @ 67% and not loosing any sleep over it.

That far into book 2 and still there was no forward progress, each time they “learned something, it wasn’t actually helpful or allowed them to fully solve one of the “problems” instead it continued to cause more confusion and frustration. -we don’t know if Crimson is actually “bad” we don’t know what her father Randall is doing or where he is, we don’t know if the guys fathers are in on this or are evil, we don’t know how to create the bridge, we don’t know if Addy will die after the ritual is over, we don’t know how the ritual should go but it’s eluded to needing sex and blood?, also they’er in a massive library with “all the secrets” (clearly not) and oh look another thing that is “evil” and wants to get us-

I curse- like no one’s business- but the way Addy and Crimson just randomly curse at each other.. it’s like a child learning how to cuss for the first time, just randomly putting it into their sentences. *I’m fucking irritated and over it all* ✌🏼

Dnf at 26%.

One of the male leads decided for author-only-know what reason, he needed to 'break' the female lead (like that wasn't stupid and dangerous, given her power level and lack of control) and enacted a very badly and irresponsibly-done faux-BDSM scene that culminated in the female lead spewing prophesy... again for author-only-knows what reason.

Sorry, just too ludicrous for me. If they had done it as a ritual with everyone's consent or made it clear it was a bedroom game gone wrong, it might not have come off as so ridiculous but with how it was framed, it was just every kind of silly.

(Then she gets up after being unconscious for five to ten minutes and, despite having had sex with two men in the last hour or so, without a shower or even a quick clean-up down there, pulls on a bra, tee and leggings NO KNICKERS and goes off to class. Girl would have been sticking to the seats!)

So I definitely do not recommend this book and am giving up on this author as she keeps getting worse and worse. Too bad, some of her ideas were quite good.

Magickal, mystical and mysterious

We left Addy on a major cliff hanger and the author has woven her magic once again. I am on the edge of my seat after being with Addy after she's been betrayed so cruelly. Now we see her grow even more to be the being she was always meant to be. She's stronger than she thinks she is, and joined with her loves, she and they grow even stronger. Their bond grows and entwines them more so nothing can separate them..... Or can it? This book had me shouting, screaming, crying and laughing - sometimes all at the same time. The author works her magic and ensnared me, keeps me enthralled and has my undivided attention with this story and the journey all the characters go on. Do we know why, how or even who? Nope, there's more questions that still need answering and more what the flip moments that this author can throw at you without any warning. I'd give this 10 stars if I could. Bring on the third book, I'll be waiting patiently for it.

Good Read

Midnight Reign is the second book in the Immortal Descent series and continues Adelaide’s story to find out more about herself, and picks up in the immediate aftermath of the last books cliffhanger. This book sees Adelaide learning more about herself as well as discovering more about her destiny, but with enemies popping up all around her and the guys it’s hard to know who they can trust.

I really enjoyed this book, the story had me gripped and on the edge of my seat and some of the twists and turns totally shocked me. By the end of this book I’d totally fallen in love with all the characters and for the first time in a while I don’t think I can choose a favourite, they were all appealing each in their own way.

Overall, this was another good book with another cliffhanger that has me wanting to read the next book to find out how the story concludes. I would 100% recommend giving it a read.

I’m just trying to finish books I started last year.

I think it started off so strong and then the voice/person who somehow was attached to her/sister just started to call her “little bitch” just put me off. Like imagine you’re trying to find yourself, along getting to know your guys (RH) and then somehow something’s changed and a voice in your head just starts calling you “little bitch”. And then later one towards the end, one of your guy’s dad starts calling the voice “my queen“. It just got weirder and weirder as it went on.
You know for a fact the voice/sister in your head is evil. And yet you still follow through what it wants. And ruin the world. Yeah. Why. You literally put yourself through hell and then wonder why.

I’m really debating if I should finish the series cuz it left off in cliff hanger. I think I’m just gonna read the first chapters. And see, if it’s still weird then I’m gonna just call it and not finish the series.

Absolutely Fantastic!!!!!

What a story! There is so much going on in this one. It is jammed pack with acton, drama, and suspense. It will have you on the edge of your seat with anticipation. Addy and the guys are really going through a lot of things. No answers or help to speak of as they are navigating through this book. Who is doing what and how are they going to stop what is coming? These are some of the questions that plague us as we journey alongside of them. The story is extremely well written and developed. I definitely love this series as it is uniquely written and keeps you so very engaged into it. Then we get to that extremely major cliffhanger, and boy, does it have me excited to see what happens next. This is absolutely a fantastic read.

Meh, it was okay I suppose. There’s not much world building, you get a lot of information dumps but it never really leads to anything. The romance aspect felt really rushed and if I’m honest I got second hand embarrassment for a lot of the sex scenes. I wanted to enjoy it but the whole relationship developed so fast, it didn’t really feel authentic. Adding in the random I love you bomb between Corvus and addy, and I’m cringing. I wished there was more magic and fantasy aspect to the book too, like yes I know they’re vampires and fae ect but there’s nothing really vampire-y about them other than drinking blood which Corvus rarely seems to do even though addy is draining him dry all the time.
By the end of this book I was just uninterested, so I doubt I’m going to read the next one.

I can not explain how much this book kept me on my edge of my seat. I loved this more than any other PNR I have read yet. Addy, had me laughing, screaming and wanting to throw my kindle out of the window. The guys just kept getting steamier and steamier! This is definitely a must read, if you are iffy on this, let me tell you! DROP WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING AND READ THIS MASTERPIECE!!!!

We got a magical world, drama, darkness, 4 hot as hades men and 1 strong but naïve woman that is hilarious, sweet and stronger than you will understand. The plot is good!! There are a lot of twist, turns, betrayals, and trials that are out of this world!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND AUTHOR!!!

Did you ever read a book you can't put down?

Did you ever read a book you can't put down?

This is one of them! This is book 2 in the series and it starts up right where book 1 left off. The steam gets even better in this one, and there are so many twists and turns that I was seriously shook! I adore Addy and her four men. They have a truly unbreakable bond, or do they??? Addy has so many different choices to make and each one can really change the future. I swear Eve can write characters that you love to hate! There are a few in this book which really make me want to destroy them, and then ones like Addy herself that I adore. I am on the edge of my seat for book 3

I have never wished a book was shorter…

This book has a decent plot but so much of the fact checking was conflicted. The dialogue was ridiculous and the behavior of the fmc and mmc’s was so unbelievable it was obnoxious. I try to read with a bit of grace, it’s fiction so anything goes but when you state, “ no biting students or you get expelled” then never expelling any student who do it in front of the teacher.

The fmc’s has a habit of lying and hiding facts and the miscommunication and verbiage is bad. It had great potential but it missed the mark. I won’t be continuing with the story.

The first one is kind of light hearted and makes it seem like this series is going to be a fun magical dark acedemia.
This one changes the whole vibe.
It gets pretty dark from here on out.
There's still quite a bit of adventure, magical mystery, and a good amount of romance.
You can start to see a battle for good and evil unfolding in this one.
It still has a medium amount of spice and I definitely enjoyed it even though it went in a different direction than I was expecting.

Addy girl! What you are going through is some serious stuff. I love Addy as FMC and she is strong. Her friends help her any way they can. This is a fantastic story in a PNR academy and things are for sure shaking up now ms Black is in attendance. She has the attention of Zephyr, Ignatius, Corvus and Zaiah. She is fighting against forces she has no idea excisted before as she thought she was human but what is she now? The steam is building nicely and I need more of them. Need the twists and turns.

loved it!

Wow! This second book in the series kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Let’s just say Eve is good at edging.. pun intended 😂. She left us hanging at the end of book one and we pick right back up and we get revelations, shocks, twists and turns in this book! The surprises kept coming all the way until the end and I can not wait until the third book to see how it all comes together!! I am just obsessed with Addy and her four men and what they will do for her. Sitting patiently but anxiously at the edge of my seat for now..

Such a phenomenal story. This is the second book in The Immortal Descent series. So so good. Seriously this storyline is just getting better and better. I absolutely love Adelaide. And of course her men. So much action with this book. Let’s not forget the steam either. There were a couple parts that really surprised me. Now I absolutely need the third book. So cannot wait. Definitely a must read.
