Twenty years after the Battle of Hogwarts, the Malfoy family's association with Voldemort has made them social outcasts. Hermione has only seen Draco a handful of times since their school days, but he looks exhausted when she notices him in the lobby of a hotel during a charity gala. Days later, she still can't seem to forget about the way he looked that night. After hearing a rumor that he or his father might be seriously ill, she starts investigating in her free time. It leads to the discovery of a problem impacting former Death Eaters, and a coverup that seems to be coming from high up in the Ministry of Magic. Slow-burn romance with shameless flirting, a side of plot, and a cherry of smut on top. HEA guaranteed.
I really enjoyed this one. It was a relatively easy read and it was long enough to have some actual plot but not so long that it took over my whole life to read it. I loved reading about middle-aged Draco & Hermione; their coming together made a lot more sense after 20 years of no contact than it does immediately post-war or whatever. Hermione doing her whole “stand up for what’s right” thing, despite it totally blowing up her life & career, felt very in-character; she was a badass in a very super smart Gryffindor kinda way.
Not much Ron bashing in this one but I was very glad they weren’t together. Ron and Neville were both married to Original Characters.
Good smut overall, somewhat of a slow burn to get there but well worth the wait & build-up. A few turns of phrase gave me the ick though.
I love a good Narcissa, she was pretty well done in this one. A good Lucius stretches my ability to suspend disbelief somewhat but I liked him anyway.
Overall this one was pretty fluffy. There was a bit of angst which I must admit I felt a bit frustrated about. But Hermione handled it in a pretty mature way that made her age believable so that was nice. It was of course Draco who was angsty, as always. I kind of get it, he’s been through some trauma etc., but you’d think after all these years he would have gone to see someone about that? Anyway, still mostly fluffy and very nice to read.
Note to self: this is the one where 20 years on Lucius is dying and DM is looking likely to go the same way, due to lingering effects of the Dark Mark. HG comes on board to investigate and help them find a solution. HG & RW are divorced, he’s remarried an original character and they have kids. HP & GW married, with a bunch of kids. A nice BZ who’s an ex colleague of HG’s, not paired with anyone.

- Criminally underrated - Mature and realistic - Amazing redemption - compassionate and reserved Draco! Apologizing! Emotionally mature!!😍 - Giggling, kicking my feet - Doing a 20 year time skip RIGHT, acting their age, good character development - LETTERS, LETTERS, LETTERS - GOOD MYSTERY?? - Illness and trauma handled right - GROWN UP GENTLEMAN DRACO! Sedate me - Smut threw me off but I’ll let it slide this time (my own issue/preference). - Can’t lie and say I didn’t start skimming over some things towards the end afterwards :/ - Yep, loved it until they got super horny - 4 stars
Some really nice things in this one … it’s 20 years later, Draco is a healer, Hermione hasn’t been with Ron for awhile, Narcissa is on board with Hermione from the start and pleasant overall. Hermione helps save Lucius and Draco by tricking their bodies into death and removing the dark mark. She falls in love with Draco along the way.

Ooooh, this was a sloooooow burn AND we got to see Hermione using her big brain and righteous indignation to get shit DONE in the world of wizarding. Deeelish. I gobbled this right up and enjoyed the hell out of it.
