Funny, touching, beautiful, and utterly unexpected — Maximus: The Key to Heaven took me by surprise in the best way. What begins as a college-aged coming-of-age story quickly expands into a world rich with celestial lore, dark temptation, and battles that feel truly epic.

Cecelia is instantly relatable — a girl trying to find her footing, caught between ordinary life and something extraordinary. And Maximus… he’s everything a fallen angel should be: powerful, flawed, magnetic, and heartbreakingly human. Their connection burns with intensity but never overshadows the story’s heart — the question of choice, belief, and what it means to fight for both love and light.

The world-building is layered and cinematic, the action sequences pulse with energy, and the emotional beats hit hard. It’s fantasy with soul — a blend of romance, myth, and grit that lingers long after the final page.

A stunning debut and the start of what I hope will be a long, spellbinding series.

I genuinely believe that if I came across this book when I was 15 to 17 years old, I reckon it would’ve become my whole personality for at least a year. Like this is that book which teens obsess over and I felt the nostalgia of it throughout the read. I loved the 2000’s urban fantasy vibe of the book. I love how colourful the book was with the food and the drinks. I also really loved that this was a special edition e-ARC and I could see all the beautiful illustrations! This book had so many easter eggs and as someone who grew up reading Hush Hush, The Mortal Instruments, the Lux series etc the references had me kicking my feet!! I actually screamed when I saw Christoph dressed up as Magnus Bane like are you kidding me!!

This book follows Cecilia who is being targeted by Demons for a family heirloom that she possesses and she does not know it’s powers or potential. Then we meet Evie, Cecilia’s best friend and roommate now that they’ve both started university. Evie is this feisty, expressive and explosive girl full of confidence and just radiating with a stage presence like no one else. She honestly was probably my favourite character because she was just so fun and so energetic and everything she did was slightly exaggerated but I kind of love that. Then we meet the fallen angels or the Elite Team which includes Christoph, Eric, Darius and Sam. I love the found family aspect in this and I loved how Christoph and Cecilia bonded through not just flirting and bumping into each other, but actually through prophetic dreams and a lot of history which is tying them together. I also really enjoyed Evie and Eric’s relationship,

Eric was definitely my favourite MC. He was so vibrant and fun and knew how to be serious but also to take it easy and make light of difficult situations. And obviously his loyalty goes above and beyond! Darius and Sam, although completely secondary characters added so much value to Cecilia and Christoph’s story, and I really enjoyed their presence. It wasn’t one of those side characters who were just there because books need side characters but they actually played a purpose and I quite enjoyed that. I also quite enjoyed that Christoph wasn’t the only person killing off Demons, each character had their moments, and each character grappled with heavy themes like grief but also got to show their skills, powers and abilities.

I also really enjoyed the random appearances of celestial, biblical and other mythical objects and imagery like the Mark of Vishnu or the Staff of Moses. It was so fun seeing the use of unique devices that you probably won’t see that often in other books and it’s taken from real life religions and mythological stories which is quite interesting.

The humour in this book was really fun and I think it was an easy read as well. There were a lot of points where I was giggling because I think the conversations were done really well and also it was nice to follow the characters daily routines rather than just following the plot so it felt very much like the reader is immersed into it and have the opportunity to assimilate with the found family.

I also enjoyed how animated this entire book was because it genuinely almost felt like I was watching an animated series. The fighting sequences and the action scenes were so energetic and fun. I also really loved the lore of the angels, the fallen angels, the Demons and how they originated and get a glimpse into their lives. We saw how they deal with the pain and the grief of being a fallen angel. I think this book was very well balanced and has set up the conclusion in a very appropriate way. I’m quite excited to see what happens next and I have no idea where it will go.

Finally, from the dedication we learn that the characters are inspired by close friends of the author and holds a very deep, significant meaning and a special place in their heart. I think it’s just beautiful that these people got to live on through his story and it was such a lovely lens to see this book through which added to my enjoyment.

Thank you for this ARC!

Ok, now I need to find more "fallen angel" reads because it is something I didn't know I needed!!

Maximus is a YA urban fantasy that invites you into the life of college freshman Cecilia White. It centers around the Angel Key, a family heirloom of Cecilia's, that the demons will do anything to get their hands on, and the fallen angels will do anything to protect.

The prologue grips you right off the bat, and the beginning starts off strong. It sort of calms down in the middle with some filler events & dialog but picks right back up with lots of action and an ending that will have you screaming, crying, and needing to know: "what next?!"!

Thank you so much to the team for reaching out to me to read & review this book!!

The main character named Cecelia White has a special key that was past down to her by her family. She starts having these vivid dreams that connect to the whole story and to this special key...

Cecelia and Evette are these amazing best friend where we learn there backstory. They start hanging out with some boys in Max Lounge which led to some troubles along the way...

Half of the book is learning about the characters and the setting, but soon after you are in for a ride that won't make you stop reading.

Can't wait for the adventure in the next book coming out in 2025!

An Epic Adventure That Will Leave You Breathless

From the very first page, Maximus - The Key to Heaven grabbed me and refused to let go. The prologue alone is a masterpiece, immediately dropping you into a high-stakes moment that makes you desperate to understand how the protagonist, Cecilia, ended up there.

Cecilia is the kind of character you instantly fall in love with. She starts out as an everyday girl, a talented chef and a fellow bookworm, sweet as a saint. But you quickly learn she's a total powerhouse: a second-degree black belt and Olympic-level athlete who's also top of her class.

The key necklace she wears isn't just an accessory; it's a central mystery far more important than she could ever imagine. Her world turns upside down when she meets the ridiculously charming and secretive Maximus, a Fallen Angel who is pure trouble but also gentle, a fierce protector, and surprisingly comedic. The slow-burn romance between them is absolutely electric and had me grinning like an idiot through so much of the book.

The story itself is a thrilling ride, full of Fallen Angels, Elite Wing Warriors, and terrifying Demons, all vying for the one thing that can change everything: The Key to Heaven. Shamoun builds a rich world, and creates a unique narrative that is both fresh and familiar. I was completely invested in the mystery of the key and loved how the plot unfolded around it.
Beyond the romance and action, the book excels at its heart. The "touch her and die" and found family tropes are executed perfectly.

The side characters are not just filler; they are integral to the plot, each role beautifully and strongly interwoven into the story. The bromance between Maximus, Erik, Sam, and Darius (the Elite Wing) is a highlight—their loyalty and camaraderie, especially between Erik and Max, who have been through so much, adds so much depth.🔥

And for all you foodies out there, be prepared—the descriptions of food and drink are so vivid they'll leave your mouth watering! 🤩

This book is an emotional rollercoaster, and the ending hit me right in the feels. It sets up the next book perfectly, and I am beyond excited to see what happens next. If you're looking for an epic adventure with a swoon-worthy romance, incredible action, and a found family you'll cherish, then this is the book for you.✨️

🌻🦋 My Review 🦋🌻

This book was exactly what I wanted & more. The lore behind the angel key, Cecelia’s family & the ever present battle between demons & angels. This was such an adventure & I loved experiencing every part of it.

Maximus (well Ceruleus) is such a n amazing MMC. He’s sweet, he’s kind, he ADORES Cecilia & when need be he’s a badass. He handles himself and he gets the job done!!
Cecelia is so great as an FMC. She’s smart, she’s a great friend & she is so understanding and supportive.

My favorite part of it all is of course Evie. Evie is the badass, sassy best friend of our FMC. Cecelia & Evie were like two peas in a pod as soon as they met and their friendship is truly enviable. Of course I can’t forget Evie’s perfect match Erik. He’s hilarious & so loyal (I can’t wait to dive more into their bond in book 2. Their chemistry was fantastic)

Of course the book wouldn’t be complete without great drink recipes and recommendations as well as food recs that would have your mouth watering.

I recommend this book if you are a fantasy lover who enjoys adventure, laughs, companionship & having your emotions all over the place.

I don’t even know where to start with this review.. I’m not sure words can describe how insanely good this book is. Maximus- The Key to Heaven is a YA Urban Fantasy that follows the story of Cecelia a freshman student, who holds a relic- The Key to Heaven. Demons are desperately trying to take it whilst the Fallen Angels are trying to do everything in their power to keep it from them. There is just the perfect amount of cosy writing as well as incredible action packed chapters!

Christopher M. Shamoun is such an incredible writer, it baffles me that someone could have such a great mind to be so imaginative to build their own world, characters and story.

I’ve now discovered a newfound love for fallen angels and I definitely need more books about it!
I absolutely adore the characters, each one has their own unique personality and its described very well in the book. The Elite Wing are perfect book boyfriend material! Oh- and you’ll definitely be crying at the end..

Maximus - The Key to Heaven follows Cecelia and Evie, two NYU freshmen who stumble upon a hidden world of fallen angels. Cecilia inherits a mysterious key that’s been passed down to women in her family for generations, not knowing there’s truth to the stories about the key being to the gates of Heaven.

The book was very fun and easy to read. I loved the pop culture references, the amazing food descriptions that had me drooling, and the sense of loyalty and love between the characters. The book had amazing sketches of the characters which helped with the world building.

Thank you so much to the author for a copy of the book plus the cocktail guide to Max’s lounge, can’t wait to jump into Eros!

I read this story a long time ago and love that it's finally published. Chris managed to make a fun, kick*ss, heartfelt novel that was a blast from beginning to end. The friendships, the food, the found-family, and romance is all wonderful. Every character has such a fun personality, there's both soft moments and fast-paced action, there's grit and glam. The writing is great, love the pace and cool plot, and the banter! Such a great read ♡

Maximus is a new adult urban fantasy novel that follows a college student, Cecelia White, who inherits a mysterious angel key that is passed down to the women in her family.

The key attracts the attention of both good and evil, and draws Cecelia to a handsome fallen angel named Max who owns a popular club in NY. Max agrees to help Cecelia train for their inevitable run in with the forces of Hell who want to use the key for nefarious purposes.

This book was such a fun ride! Totally nostalgic if you grew up with shows like Buffy or Supernatural, where found family and run ins with demons are front and center. The artwork included in this book makes the story and characters really pop off the page!

There is a great sense of friendship, camaraderie, and a sweet romance that takes this book to another level. Between laugh out loud moments and descriptions of food and drinks that made me drool, I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for the next one!!

Thank you to Christopher M. Shamoun and Love Books Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book!

This book really surprised me in the best way. It isn’t what I would normally read, but I am a firm believer in stepping outside of our reading “norms” because you never know what you might end up enjoying, and this book is a perfect example of that. To start off, this book had a lot of really creative worldbuilding, and for an urban fantasy novel, I feel like that is incredibly important. The writing here really immersed you in this book, which made it very easy to get lost in it for hours. There were a handful of important characters throughout this book, aside from our FMC, Cecilia, and our MMC, Christoph. However, having multiple important characters doesn’t detract from this story; it actually adds layers and depth to it. I really love good, strong, supporting side characters that add substance to a book. The plot itself was a lot of fun and just what you want in a fantasy novel… a girl who unknowingly holds something very powerful that a bad group wants. There is a lot of action in this novel between the “good guys and the bad guys,” which really held my attention and left me scrambling to know what happened next. Even though there is a hint of a romance subplot here, this book is considered YA, and is one I definitely think I would have loved even more as a teenager. Overall, this was a very refreshing read for me, and I am excited to see where this series goes!

🗝 Angels and Demons
🍸 Sacred Relics
🗝 Urban Fantasy
🍸 Training Together
🗝 Found Family
🍸 Touch Her And ☠️

Cecelia's life is turned upside down shortly after starting her freshman year of college. The females in her family have been tasked for generations with keeping the Angel Key, a sacred relic safe from demons. The key also has led her to Maximus, the fallen angel she has dreamt of for months. Their relationship is adorable. That first date he planned for it was perfection minus the ending.

I loved Cecelia's relationship with her new roomie Evie and that even though they only recently met, they have such a strong bond. Evie is definitely a girls girl.

Max, Erik, Sam, and Darius (the Elite Wing) have quite the bromance. They are always there for one another, no questions asked. Erik and Max have definitely been through a lot together.

All the food and drink descriptions left my mouth salivating. I now want mac and cheese balls. Max's Lounge sounds right up my alley with its vintage vibes, and did I mention the food!!!

I can't wait to jump into Eros/Erik's story.

Thank you Christopher for the gifted copy. My thoughts and review are my own.

Is there anything better than the classic angels vs. demons? I think not!

Cecelia was looking forward to her freshman year at NYC. Attend her classes, make some new friends, eat all the food. Being hunted by demons was definitely not on her list! Cecelia is in possession of the Angel Key, a mysterious relic that has been passed down through her family for generations. The key also attracts the attention of Christoph Maximus (Max), an all-too-tempting fallen angel that has been haunting her dreams and might just be intent on stealing her heart.

This book was just fun! The story was there, but for me the characters stole the show. The banter and found family vibes were perfect. Cecelia and her roommate Evie, the ever-energetic and lippy yin to Cecelia's yang, were the best. Plus, the boys, especially Erik and Max, had such camaraderie and loyalty; it was so heartwarming. It all made for an amazing ride, and with that ending, I can't wait to see where book 2, Eros - The Great Cataclysm, takes us.

Shout out as well to Christopher M. Shamoun for having both Magnus Bane and David Tennant mentioned in the same scene. Iconic!

I really enjoyed Maximus: Key to Heaven and would have finished it even faster if not for a hectic work week! The friendship between the guys—especially Chris and Erick—was one of the highlights for me. Their bond feels so genuine and powerful, and I loved how comfortable they are in their own skin when showing affection and devotion.

I’m not usually into romance, but both love stories—Max and Celia, and the very unexpected Erick and Evie—were beautifully written and felt distinct from one another.

What truly hooked me, though, was the lore and mythology. The archangels, demons, and nephilim battles kept me turning the pages, and I really appreciated how Celia and Evie claimed their power without ever feeling like “Mary Sues.” The big battle sequence was fantastic—every member of the team got their moment to shine, rather than relying on the main character to save the day.

And that ending… wow. I won’t spoil anything, but the cliffhanger was incredible. I can’t wait to dive into part 2!

“Christoph Maximus is a fallen archangel, stripped of his wings and sent to Earth.

Cecelia is a college student who loves history and books—until her quiet life collides with his.

Their connection is instant, but Max soon discovers Cecelia wears a magical key necklace passed down through her family. She doesn’t know its power, or the danger it brings.

When archdukes begin hunting her, Max must protect the girl he’s falling for—no matter the cost. With help from the other Elite Wings, and Cecelia’s best friend, can they defeat them, and save Heaven?”

When I say I couldn’t put this book down, I mean it completely took over my life. I spent over a day thinking about it when I wasn’t even reading. I loved the characters—Evie and Erik were hilarious , Christophe has my whole heart, and Cecelia is truly a force to be reckoned with. An incredible story and a beautiful tribute to a friend ❤️

More people need to read this book. It’s one of those stories that stays with you long after you turn the last page.

Great for young adults as it has no spice and minimal bad language

If you’re looking for an urban fantasy that dives into the mystery of fallen angels and sacred relics, look no further! Until the visions began.

Until the Angel Key awakened.

And until Christoph Maximus walked into her world. This book had me hooked. The immersion is incredible.

In ways I felt sad for Cecelia. Not having her parents around had to have been hard. But finding out your soul mate is an immortal bring makes up for it!

The prologue is perfection. I love how there's both mortal beings, and heavenly beings. The lore between the two is amazing. And The romance between the characters was incredible. This is one book I can't stop talking about!

i feel like this had a supernal show vibe but turned into a romance book. It had me hooked simply for that vibe.

Maximus by @seraphicnovels was the perfect read to end the weekend. Book one in the Seraphic Series, Maximus takes the reader on an epic journey where the battle between Angels vs Demons hinges unknowingly, on one human woman. With beautiful imagery that makes the characters and world building come to life; well loved tropes like found family, heartwarming friendships and the MMC gifting the FMC books, not to mention detailed and delicious descriptions of food, this book kept me hooked from beginning to end. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to start the next in the series.

OMG! Where do I start with this book?! Honestly I thought this was a really meaningful and uplifting read. I really like how the story was a perfect blend of adventure and faith in a way that felt easy to follow and natural. Maximus is a character that you can root for and I found that his journey made me think about courage and trust and what it really means to live with strong values. The only reason that I didn’t give this book a full 5 stars is because I wished some parts were a little longer and more detailed. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.
