BONJOUR AGENT by Faberge Eastern

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
4.5 stars

Well-researched, witty, tenderhearted, and suspenseful — another story penned by the unique voice of Faberge Eastern.

This was such a fun read. If you enjoy a Spy Regency Romance, this is for you. Though it predates the predominantly popular Regency period, the Georgian gowns and powdered foppery is just enough to elude to the times, while still vividly painting a society of elegance and gentility.

The main characters were all quite fun and I admit to the story holding a surprise or two!
I especially liked how intelligent and daring Cheska was without taking unrealistic, unnecessary, or “stupid” risks.

I do believe the beginning 1/3 of the book was my favorite. The pace was jaunty, the character introductions captivating, and the setting up of the story intriguing.
I *did* feel the pace of the last 1/3 of the book ran a little slow.

A sweet romance (actually, two) are woven into this story, and I think BONJOUR AGENT is well equipped to meet the desires and expectations of its intended audience. 🤭

*I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.*

What a fun story! I really enjoyed it! We have spying, danger, and not one but two romances. We have Francesca who sometimes disguises herself as “Frankie” a boy, to be able to do things a woman wouldn’t be allowed to do. We have Sebastian, who first meets Francesca, when being held at gunpoint by her. Oh yes, it’s fun. He is a spy. I loved this story and how Sebastian and Francesca’s relationship went 180 degrees. I loved them so much! I also loved Madeleine , whose protégé was Francesca. And Francesca’s father, Lord Hugh Grey. I loved the romance between Lord Grey and Madeleine as well! Overall, I thought this a fun wonderful book and I definitely recommend!

Sweet and Clean Romance with Spying and Intrigue!

This is Ms. Eastern's second novel and what a pleasant read! She has a beautiful grasp of the 18th century English language and history! Her attention to detail is extremely Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen like. I especially love how the first few chapters got me hooked into the story. I did find the second third of the story slow going a bit but her writing kept me intrigued on how the story would develop. Overall very promising author!

This was my second ARC read for Ms.Eastern!

That of a man breaking into a room and being confronted with a pistol. 😯 The FMC Francesca is a woman newly returned to England after studying different subjects around the continent. The MMC is an agent of the crown sent to discovery if there were any dangerous Napoleon sympathizers in a specific area of England. Faberge Eastern’s second novel Bonjour Agent is a thrilling tale of intrigued and romance, with a perfect blend of action, and suspense, making it a must-read for fans of the genre.

The story masterfully intertwines themes of courage, identity, and love against a backdrop of thrilling espionage. Francesca’s character is particularly compelling; her decision to disguise herself as "Frankie" speaks to her resourcefulness and determination to defy societal norms. This choice not only propels the plot forward but also highlights the struggles women faced in a restrictive environment, making her journey all the more relatable and inspiring.

Sebastian, as a spy, brings an air of mystery and excitement to the narrative. His initial encounter with Francesca is charged with tension, and as they navigate the dangers of their world together, their bond deepens in unexpected ways. The chemistry between them is palpable, and their evolving relationship adds an emotional layer to the suspenseful storyline.

The author does an excellent job of balancing action with character development. Each character, from Lord Hugh Grey to Madeleine, is fleshed out with their own motivations and backstories, enriching the narrative. Lord Grey’s romance with Madeleine serves as a beautiful counterpoint to Francesca and Sebastian's passionate journey, emphasizing the power of love across different generations.

The plot is filled with twists and turns, keeping readers engaged and eager to turn the page. The stakes are high, with espionage elements that add a sense of urgency and danger. Whether it's secret missions, narrow escapes, or heart-stopping confrontations, the pacing of the story ensures that there's never a dull moment.

Overall, this tale is not just about the thrill of spy adventures; it’s also a celebration of love, resilience, and the strength of the human spirit. Readers will find themselves rooting for Francesca and Sebastian as they navigate their complex world, making it a memorable and enjoyable read that lingers long after the last page is turned.

If you love stories brimming with adventure, romance, and strong characters, this book is definitely worth your time!

Bonjour Agent by Faberge Eastern

Review by Grababookbookclub ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you’re searching for a historical romance that perfectly blends espionage, adventure, wit, and heartfelt romance, then Bonjour Agent is a book you won’t want to miss.

Faberge Eastern transports readers to the late eighteenth century, where England teeters on the brink of conflict with France and danger hides behind every elegant ballroom and country estate. From the very first chapter, I was captivated by the mystery, the clever dialogue, and the undeniable chemistry between Francesca Grey and Sebastian Buckingham. Their journey is packed with coded messages, secret missions, unexpected twists, and a romance that develops beautifully amidst the chaos. (Apple)

Francesca is everything I love in a historical heroine—intelligent, courageous, fiercely independent, and unwilling to accept the limitations society places upon her. Sebastian is equally compelling; loyal to the Crown, honourable, and wonderfully protective without overshadowing Francesca’s strength. Together they make an unforgettable partnership.

Faberge Eastern’s writing is elegant and richly descriptive, bringing the Georgian era vividly to life. Every setting feels immersive, every conversation carries purpose, and the balance between romance, suspense, and humour keeps the pages turning effortlessly. I particularly loved the historical references woven naturally throughout the story, adding authenticity without slowing the pace. (Goodreads)

This is a beautifully crafted clean historical spy romance, proving that emotional depth, thrilling adventure, and unforgettable characters are more than enough to leave a lasting impression. Fans of Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen-inspired romances, and historical mysteries will find themselves completely absorbed in this story.

Bonjour Agent is a captivating adventure filled with intrigue, courage, slow-burn romance, and memorable characters that stay with you long after the final page.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A brilliant historical romance that I wholeheartedly recommend.

Having thoroughly enjoyed Fabergé Eastern’s debut novel The Connoisseur, I was eager to read this author’s next offering and am once again impressed with her ability to channel a Georgette Heyer style of adventurous romp.

Written with an insightfully sophisticated maturity toward a love of the arts in the era of the late 1700’s.

This is a tale that draws you in like an English hunt.. the horses are rearing to go, you lead the start and after jumping a few fences the hunt picks up apace.. until eventually you are galloping along with the fox (villain) in sight..

Spies, traitors, a navel Battle with a Napoleonic ship, a daring escape and even a glittering ball.

The story builds a strong foundation into who the feisty Lady Francesca Grey is by where she has come from in life. A strong and confident heroine to match a hero to fall for..
I shall refrain from saying more about our hero to avoid any spoilers. Suffice to say I adored him.

Some wonderful additional cast members with special mention for a likeable enterprising youth, by the name of Frankie.
I was personally delighted to read mention of such notables greats from the arts of the era; poet Johann Goethe , artist Orazio Solimena, philosopher Samuel Coleridge etc.
The decision to include William Wordsworth as a character was an inspired choice.

I enjoyed and appreciated the use of notable and appropriate Quotes at the beginning of each chapter.

When you finally feel the the story has reached its culmination, there is an intriguing hint to a forthcoming adventure. A follow up methinks and hopes.

For fans of Heyer and Patricia Wynn alike.
I would recommend this to lovers of period romance and adventure with a dose of good banter.

I received an ARC and my opinions are my own.

It isn't often that I take the time to write reviews, as you may see by the number of reviews noted, but I read a lot of (mostly Regency) novels.

This is the second time I've read this novel. I had read it when it first came out, and as I had asked to pre-read book 2, Lady Lazarus, I thought that I had better re-read the first book.

What a surprise. I loved it from the very first few paragraphs. A smart woman, Francesca, who, though she seems strong, is filtered through a gentle soul guided by a French aristocrat, Madeline, who had to escape France through the Napoleonic wars and the guillotine. So much is happening, but you never get lost in the history, or lose your way as the story progresses. Francesca comes across as someone who feels free to be herself. She is loved and accepted as she is and is surrounded by both Madeline and her father, who love her for who she is and understand her. How rare is that? What a gift.

Along comes the other main character, Sebastian. He has his own past to deal with. The youngest of 6 boys, you can imagine that he can feel a bit lost and needs to find himself and map out his own life on his own.

These two have to learn to trust each other for the safety of their country. What transpires is espionage, sabotage, and abduction amongst the Ton and society balls. What could possibly go wrong?

I must add that I tend to get a little anxious with nail-biting scenes, but the author keeps you safe while watching what transpires, so that you continue reading because you want to know what happens, not have to know because of anxiety.

Keep an eye out for that little rascal, Frankie, and William Wordsworth makes a surprising appearance.

This author is a delight to read.

This story was a fun one! The writing style took a bit of getting use to for me at first but once I got use to it was fun seeing many thoughts and perspectives from so many different characters.

I really enjoyed the story that is painted the peril and intrigue was fun. I enjoyed the dual romance and watching it come to play for all our wonderful characters.

There is a diverse set of personalities in these stories that are fun and seeing the different thoughts of many added to the story in the ways that others don’t. I wish we could have gotten more of the romance between a few of the characters but I think we will get more of that in book two.

This was an enjoyable read that had me hooked in the end to see what would happen next!

Thank you to the author for the ARC copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own!

I loved this clean historical mystery/romance. Bonjour Agent by Fabergé Eastern is set in England during the time France is nearing the end of its revolution and European nations are wary of Napoleon.

It’s filled with rich descriptions of both characters and settings that will transport you into the action—and it is filled with action.

The main characters are Sebastian, a confirmed bachelor and agent of the crown, and Francesca, the lively and charismatic only child of Lord Grey who has no interest in the dull life most of her peers have in matrimony. Follow their journey to find mystery, intrigue, and just enough whimsy that the heavier parts never get too overwhelming.

Sebastian Buckingham and Francesca Grey met in the most unusual way. It may have involved a jeweled pistol and an intruder… I enjoyed this spy story with likable characters, secrets, political intrigue, action and danger, and not only one, but two clean romances.

I recommend this for you who enjoy historical espionage stories. Sebastian and Francesca are a great pair in stopping a diabolical plot against England. They are going to Rome, and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

I received a copy of the book from the author. I was not expected to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

It isn't a bad book -- I would give it 3 stars based on the 30% I read -- but it felt immature, both plot and prose. Also, adding historical figures as characters in a book takes a good deal of convincing writing, and it just wasn't believable in this one.
