The math was not mathing at all in this book. In book two, it’s revealed that Ivy had access to half a billion dollars, yet in book one she was saying things like she had to “wait until she got paid,” which made it seem like she was living paycheck to paycheck. That contradiction made absolutely no sense, especially considering she also has a rich boyfriend and comes from a wealthy family. None of it lined up.
Ivy herself was extremely soft, and so were the men around her. We’re constantly told that King is this big man in the streets, yet Ivy is repeatedly bullied and attacked with no real protection. If that’s supposed to be his woman, why does nobody fear him. His reputation never matched his actions, and nobody seemed scared of King in any situation.
I actually understood why Noah reached his breaking point with Ivy. Imagine constantly having to rescue a grown woman who never stands up for herself, never learns, and keeps putting herself in the same dangerous situations. She will always need an anchor, always need someone to save her, but then pushes people away the moment something doesn’t go her way. That gets exhausting. I would’ve been done too.
There were multiple moments of author intervention, where characters reacted to situations without any on-page evidence that they knew what was happening.
It felt like the author stepped in and made King address problems he had no way of knowing about. If he didn’t know Ivy was being bullied, there was no reason for him to suddenly threaten his cousin. The story didn’t earn that moment.
Another moment that completely took me out of the story was the spit scene. Ivy had just been spit on, it rolled down her face and onto her clothes, and somehow King kissed her and they ended up having sex without her even showering. That scene was not romantic at all. It was uncomfortable. All I could think about was the spit still on her body, and it ruined the entire moment.
The story also became very predictable. All the books follow the same formula. There’s always an ex doing something grimey but still being allowed close access, the new girlfriend walking in on it and finding out the worst way, followed by over-the-top bullying that stretches across multiple books. Ivy being naive is one thing, but allowing people to constantly beat her up and disrespect her while she stays quiet makes no sense when she’s surrounded by so-called killers. Naive does not equal spineless.
I also side-eyed the author’s note about people “really going through these things.” Nobody is going through what Ivy is going through in this story. The situations felt exaggerated and unrealistic rather than relatable.
Overall, the inconsistencies, weak character development, and illogical situations made it hard to take this story seriously. It had potential, but too many things just did not add up.

Great Read
Ivy meekness and weakness started to get on my nerves. I understand she wasn't a fighter but keeping quiet about what King cousin Stephanie and his Aunt did to her. She was basically protecting them. Then King ex Stasia popped up starting shyt. Ivy should've whooped Stasia ass when she spit on her. I honestly believed Stasia dumb ass when she said she was drugged in Jamaica and didn't knowingly cheat on King when they were together. She shouldn't have allowed her two best friends to invite strange men into their room. Although she proved to King she didn't cheat. Ivy have King heart and Stasia knows that but she don't care. She's trying her best to be King woman again. Noah Sr. Is a damn disrespectful ass creep. I see why none of his children wanted to be bothered by him. Somebody is still after Ivy trying to kill the poor girl. I believe King aunt and cousin have something to do with it.

I'm not going to lie. I'm still on the fence about this read. I would give this part 2 a 3.5⭐️ also. King ex is really getting on my nerves. I understood she was set up, and I figured that, but at this point, you need to count this a s loss. I like Kandy and Noah Jr.. I just wish he hurry up to get clean. I don't know what to say about Knox and Mya because they both seemed confused about what to do, and I wonder how fid the police get the surveillance tape from the bar. Tina J, these folk just can catch a break. It's so much disloyalty and jealousy that shouldn't even be. I can't wait to find out why they are so jealous. Kandi is so strong Ivy hopefully will make it. King as well. Noah will be fine, Big Noah needs to sit down, the crew is gonna have to bind together or else no body will win🤗🤗🤗🤗

I did not see that cliffhanger coming. Poor Ivy has been through so much she just can’t catch a break and now her life is in serious danger and I hope that she is ok. King took a hit at the end and I can’t wait for him to set the city ablaze taking out this new threat.

Decent Book, Horrible Characters
The writing and storyline are good, but this book has some pathetic characters. Noah is a rich fiend, the dad is a filthy mouth jerk, and Ivy is weak. Basically this family is so dysfunctional.
