Stone is the seventh book in the Sentinel Security series by Anna Hackett.
This romantic suspense features a security team known as Sentinel Security. When one of their own has been threatened then everyone gets on board to take the bad guy down. Hex is the best hacker and he is the best dark ops there is now they just have to keep each other alive and the fun begins.
It has it all to make it a heart-stopping, action-filled tale. With lots of chemistry, tension, intrigue, drama, danger, mystery, and more.
I have loved every previous book in this series and was surprised to find out an extra novella came out! Unfortunately, to me, this one wasn’t as good as the rest of the series. Knox wasn’t what I hoped he would be and the story felt way too OTT in the way the action scenes played out. As to Knox, I don’t like that he rejects Nola at the bar after kissing her. Total asshole move and says something about his character. Afterward he never properly apologizes for it and they just move on as if it didn’t happen. Then she kind of seduces him again. She seems like the main pursuer in the relationship and I don’t like that in my books. The H needs to be all alpha and chasing the h…that didn’t happen in this book unfortunately. The action felt like a bad movie. I mean…she takes someone out by throwing her baseball cap at him? I rolled my eyes quite a few times. I’m bummed this novella didn’t really work for me, because I loved this series! I guess I’m just going to have to re-read all the other books…;-)
Safety: - no OW/OM - No cheating - No separation / no third act break up
I love the suspense and action parts. This is a novella, and it spans three days only. So this is insta-love at its finest. 🤭
Stone (47) and Nola (31) met at a bar where she's supposed to meet her brother (also his new colleague). They both came a bit earlier but didn't know each other, but then they locked eyes, sparks flew, and they shared a kiss.
Then her brother and his team members came to the bar. Introductions were made, and Stone decided then to ignore Nola for the rest of the night since she's basically off limits.
The next day, she witnessed a murder, and Stone was sent to keep her safe and deliver her back to their headquarters. Did I mention I love the suspense? Because it is. 🤭 The journey to the safehouse was full of action and bad guys. But Stone protected Nola, and she remained levelheaded despite the fear running through her. She followed his orders until they got into the safe house.
Then it made her realize that life's too short not to go for the things that she wants. So she propositioned Stone and told him that she wanted him, and apparently he had the same realization. So they gave in to the connection they felt. And let's just say they thoroughly enjoyed their stay that night. 🤭
Anyway, the next day, more bad guys came after Nola, but they eventually made it to the headquarters. A bit harmed but still alive. Then everyone found out about the sudden development between them. I mean, they basically announced it by kissing in front of the team. 😂
Then, it's the epilogue, which was six months later, with Nola finding out she's pregnant and with Stone proposing to her. So much for Stone not wanting to get married again and have kids. 😅
Overall, it was good for a romantic suspense novella. The romance was unbelievable, but hey, this is fiction, so I guess that's fine. 🤭 Still enjoyed it nonetheless.
Book info: - Novella - Insta-love - Romantic suspense - Age gap (15) - No cheating, OPD, separation - No Vs (no info) - HFN (6 mos later, engaged and pregnant)

Series: Sentinel Security #7 Rating: 4 stars - It was really good
When real estate agent Magnolia “Nola’ Newhouse goes to set up a new penthouse to show she finds herself witnessing a murder. Now she is on the run and being hunted by the mob, and her brother’s new silver fox coworker Knox “Stone” Holman is the only thing keeping her safe.
It was great to be back in the Sentinel Security world and revisit these characters. Nola is Nick’s (Wolf) sister and we finally get to see her find the person for her. Nola was a spunky woman who didn't give up on escaping or on Knox. I really liked her and that while she may have been running for her life she wasn’t a basket case about it.
Knox is new to the team but still a great character. He is a former Marine who was ready for a change but never expected that to change to be falling for a woman. I enjoyed watching these two fall hard for each other and not really fight their feelings while avoiding danger.
Overall, this was a Sentinel Security novella. I really enjoyed this couple and their fast paced story. It was also nice to revisit this series and see how the previous couples are getting along.

I loved this story. Knox and Nola are so freaking adorable together. I loved getting to see others from this series. This book made me happy, and I didn't want to put it down. I stayed up late to keep reading.
How well you'll like this romance depends on how willing you are to turn your brain off and ignore all the plot holes in this story. It's a good popcorn novella. Light and snacky and fun enough while you're reading it, but it's not going to stick with you for very long. The fact that it's a novella means the romance moves very quickly and there's no real time for characterization so you don't get the chance to fall in love with the hero and heroine, or their relationship. It's all fine and action-packed, just not something that'll set the world on fire. And I, for one, had to work pretty hard to ignore all the blatant plot contrivance in this story in order to enjoy it.
But I DID enjoy it. It delivered on the bodyguard romance I was looking for. The H and h were good and I believed the chemistry between them. There was an outside threat pursuing them and the H got to be all manly and protect his woman. We got the requisite scene in a safe house where they can give in to their passion. It was fine. A bit rushed, but all the boxes got ticked.
As for the Silver Fox angle, I've never really been into that type of romance so I'm probably not the best judge of how they're supposed to go, but I felt like it was very token in this story. Maybe this is a side effect of the story being so short but the fact that the hero was 15 years older than the heroine really didn't impact the story at all. Sure, he put up a token protest at the beginning about being too old for her, and she referred to him as her silver fox a few times in conversation, but he didn't really ACT like an older man. He acted exactly the same as all Anna Hackett's other heroes do. He's still in rocking shape and could run fast and beat up the bad guys just as well as a 30 year old guy could. He still had the stamina to go for multiple rounds of sex in just a few hours. He'd lived a whole lifetime of experiences before meeting the heroine but it didn't make him world-weary or wise in a way she wasn't, etc. He was just a regular standard-issue hero. There was also no discussion about people maybe not accepting their relationship because of the age gap. Much more focus was put on Stone breaking the "bro code" by sleeping with his colleague's sister.
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me at all if AH had originally written this book with the hero just being the same age as the heroine and then her publisher asked her to write a silver fox story to appeal to a wider range of romance readers. And rather than write a whole new book, she just went back through this one and tweaked the hero's description to include salt-and-pepper hair and such. That's how little it plays into the story. Which was fine for me, since I'm not into the whole May-December romance thing, but anyone who actually likes that genre is probably going to be disappointed.
Overall it was a fine book. I kind of wish it had been longer so that the scenes and the characters would have had more time to breathe and develop. But, on the other hand, the plot holes in this one were really egregious so if the book had been longer I probably wouldn't have been able to hold onto my suspension of disbelief until the end. I barely made it as it was and the book was only 112 pages.
And I'm still recovering from the near-fatal case of secondhand cringe I got reading that awful dog walker scene.
The only book I had read in this series was Wolf and I enjoyed it. This one, not so much. I do not care for the 15 year age gap. I usually do not read books of that genre. However, since I liked Wolf, I thought okay. Nope, did not care for it.
They knew each other for 24 hours and were in bed together. Just too much for me.
They are running from the bad guys. You have fist fights and guns being fired. Yet, no one intervenes, no one else is hurt, no one calls the cops, etc. Hey, this is New York City. The dog walker is happy to help. I would think most would run in the opposite direction. Stone acts like the chow is a tiny dog. Again, does not make since. A chow can weigh up to 90 pounds, not small. Plus it is usually called a chow chow. I will say it is a fluffy dog, so maybe that is what is meant. If the author wanted small, try a chihuahua or a Yorkie.
A question that was never answered is why was the Russian Mob in the empty penthouse apartment? That does not seem like a private place with the apartment up for sale. Now, if they had tried something at 2:00 AM, maybe it would have been private. I would have thought someplace more secluded. But, I guess that is how the author got them into the story.
The Sentinel Security series opened with Wolf back in 2022, so it seems fitting that the series close with him too. Well, sorta/kinda and not exactly. But it’s all in the family.
Back in that first story in the series, Wolf fell hard and fast for his little sister’s bestie – not that they aren’t both adults when that story takes place.
In this wrap-up novella for the series, it’s Wolf’s little sister Nola’s turn to find her HEA with one of his friends and colleagues, the newest member of the Sentinel Security family, Knox Holman, codename Stone from his own days as an elite operative for MARSOC, the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command.
The sparks fly between Stone and Nola from their very first meeting – just before he’s introduced to his new team and learns that the woman he kissed up against the wall should be off-limits. A limit he’s determined to keep.
But their second meeting is a lot less cute, and throws all of both of their cautions out the window. That second meeting takes place behind a dumpster, where Nola is crouching to hide from the bad guys she just saw commit cold blooded murder in a high-end NYC apartment she was originally oh-so-thrilled to be contracted to sell.
On the run from her pursuers, chased at every turn, shot at at every opportunity, Stone and Nola have to hole up in one of Sentinel Security’s safehouses while their friends clear them a path to safety.
Even if it means breaking down doors, jumping through broken windows, and figuring out that no matter how much they should keep each other at arms’ length they’re both MUCH happier being held close.
Escape Rating A-: It looks like this is the really truly last and final entry in the Sentinel Security series after last year’s Hex. Not that we won’t see these folks again riding to someone’s rescue at some point in the future. (Something this author does that all her readers are grateful for, as it gives us an opportunity to see how our friends are doing!)
Still, this is the wrap-up novella and it does a terrific job of wrapping up. All the Sentinel Security agents have found their HEAs, sometimes even with each other, but we met Nola back in that first book and she still needed to find someone just for her.
Enter Stone, who is just what she’s been looking for, even if neither of them has a clue. Stone doesn’t even have a clue that he’s looking!
The romance in this one combined a couple of my favorite tropes, so two great tastes that went deliciously together.
First and foremost, Nola isn’t passive about her rescue – EVER. She’s on the run when she calls in her 911 to Sentinel Security, she’s preparing to fight back when Stone catches up to her, and she’s prepared to fight or fly the minute either of them sees trouble.
What made the story extra yummy for this reader is that it’s an age gap romance, and that’s always a favorite for me – no matter which direction that gap is in. That gap causes insecurities and questions and worries about the differing lengths of the emotional baggage train that each person has trailing behind them – as well as the places that they currently are in their lives and what they have in front of them.
Something that’s particularly true in this case as Nola is in her early 30s and the alarm on her biological clock is going off, while Stone, in his late 40s, tried marriage once, believes that the failure of it was all on him, and doesn’t think he has it in him to try again.
What made it work was that in spite of the 15+ year gap between them, they’re both more than mature enough to at least think they know what they want out of life and that it might not be the same thing.
Although we all hope they figure out that it is before the story and the series wraps. And of course they do.
This series has been fun, and it came to the perfect fireworks and explosions and happy ever after conclusion. The author is in the midst of her newest action adventure romance series, Unbroken Heroes, and will be returning to her Fury Brothers series in the fall with Take (Sept.) and Claim (Oct.) – but I’ll confess that as much as I’m looking forward to catching up with the Fury Family, the book I’m really anticipating is the opener for her new Sci-Fi Romance series in November!
Let me just preface this by just saying I am a huge Anna Hackett fan. I have read every book she has ever written and while I enjoyed reading Stone, the latest instalment in her Sentinel Security series, and look forward to reading other books that Ms. Hacket writes, there are a few niggles.
Sadly, I felt that while it was a good read, it was a bit rushed, a bit too simplistic given the depth and detail in Ms. Hackett’s other books. Also, am I the only one thinking that the stories are getting shorter and are lacking the depth and intense character development, interaction and story development that I am used to from Ms. Hackett?
The main part of this story takes place over the space of two days and the characters end up falling hard for each other. Much is made of the age difference – the silver fox…and while there is an age gap, when silver fox is mentioned, I really don’t think about 40 or so year old men. I tend to think about men in their sixties and early seventies, but that’s not really a major issue.
So, in this story the focus is on the silver fox, aka former Marine Knox “Stone” Holman and real estate agent Magnolia “Nola” Newhouse. She is the half-sister to Nick, who works for Sentinel Security in New York City, so she knows everyone who works for Sentinel Security. They meet at a bar and there is an instant attraction and per the usual way things go, because she is the sister of a co-worker, Stone, new to the city and to Sentinel Security withdraws, much to the dismay of Nola.
Nola is a real estate agent and she scored a new listing, goes off to take a look at it and runs headlong into a gangland execution. So, here’s the next niggle – why the heck was it taking place there – that is not explained. Does the gangster have a connection to the building, owns it?? Not sure – and why execute someone in a penthouse when you could do it in so many ways to avoid detection?!
My other niggle is that the mobster who just executed the poor man in the apartment is referred to on numerous occasions as a ‘bad guy’. I get he is the leader of his crime organisation and of course would have done bad things, but context please – what makes him so bad? Tell us some of what he has done instead of just saying he’s a bad man.
The attraction between Nola and Stone was obvious and it developed further on their run from the ‘bad guys’, but two days, it all took place over the space of two days – with no police involvement or assistance, it was all just Sentinel Security. While it was a hot and sexy read, this was just a tad too fast for me and I really think it has to do with the lack of depth in the story development. Then there was the confrontation between the crime boss and Sentinel Security towards the end, which was also a little bit unbelievable, because I really don’t think that a crime boss who knows anything about Sentinel Security would be so stupid and expect them to do what he asked.
A fast paced, action filled, hot and sexy read for sure but I would have liked more story.
Nolan has a instant connection to the new member of Killian's team. Stone ex-Marine and silver fox looks, tall brawn and fit. He is a mature wine that has Nola, Wolf's baby sister panting over. So he is playing the the bro-code of not touching his fellow team member relative and push Nola away although he doesn't want to. Nola plays along, she goes to her new building to inspect the penthouse she is staging to sell but witness a mob execution by Russian. She goes on run after fighting off initial chase. Nola is badass and doesn't give up, she calls Sentinel security for help and Killian sends Stone to go protect her and bring safely to office building. Stone finds Nola in alleyway fighting off another Russian, he steps in and puts his light out, then they are both running to get to safe house.
Eventually they get there and hole up for the night and then they feast on each other as Nola says life is too short to resist what you want. Stone gives in and the heat rises further. Age difference is forgotten, brother code forgotten and they live for now. The action, the chasing and drama if the Russian mob after one small woman is fantastic. It was great to see the whole Sentinel team together with their other halves and the expected new families arriving. Nola and Stone joined the new unit after the final line is drawn on the company office and Killian's wife coming from the ceiling and taking down the mob boss, brilliant.
Full of action and it’s thrilling, but where’s the romance? it’s really short as well.
It’s 113 pages! It’s way to short!! It had just got really interesting and it finished. 😭😭😭 There’s no romance and the whole book is Nola running for her life from Russian mobsters, with Knox protecting her. It’s thrilling and exciting but I’m still in shock that it ended so quickly.
Nola meets Knox in a bar and they have an instant attraction, and they kiss. As soon as Knox finds out that Nola is the younger sister of Nick, he backs right off. As Knox has just started at Sentinel and doesn’t want to offend Nick.
When Nola witnesses a Russian man executing a man, Knox is sent to get her to safety. I have to say it gets ludicrous at times as the Russians are chasing them across the city to kill the only witness to their murder. SO THE RUSSIAN’S ARE CHASING AND SHOOTING AT THE ONLY WITNESS TO A MURDER?? With loads of people witnessing them do it! Does that make sense to anyone? It’s stupid!!
Sex scenes are hot, chase scenes are exciting if stupid, but that’s it. Absolutely NO ROMANCE! NONE! They do have seriously hot chemistry but there’s no dating, no talking, no nothing! Yes they have sex but there’s no romance!
I’m being generous at two stars as that’s really annoyed me! As i was really enjoying it when it ended!
again... another disappointing read, another age gap, another heroine that is annoying. I will say I didn't mind the hero but he was too old for me in this particular storyline.. age gaps like this are just not my thing I guess. This is the 3rd book by Anna, released recently, that is an annoying age gap, where the hero pushes away the heroine but he saves the day and vanilla sex and then all is right with the world. It gets old! Seriously! wtf Anna! The two stars for this book because the hero sounded hot and we also got see some of the other characters and what they were up to. I don't always like to see the pregnancy trope pop up so many times in a series. The FMC could have been a bit older, bit more mature, a bit more personality besides "i love shoes" and "i want babies", I mean not all women in this day in age have them and are perfectly happy in their marriage... insert huge eyeroll 🙄.. I mean I get it but when you read it over and over, its too cliche. The MMC could have changed his mind about marriage and they still could have had a hea, but him having his first baby at 47 with a woman he barely knew even though he was sooo deadset against it, was not belieavable maybe if the book was a bit longer and there was more chemistry between the two, I could have bought it. They had nothing in common and the book was too short for any real substance.
STONE: is a fast-paced short story with witty banter, on-edge suspense, action, stressful emotions, grave danger, fiery, passionate romance, and a happy forever.
Knox Holman aka Stone, a former Marine Raider, came to New York to work with Killian Hawke owner of Sentinel Security. Stone meets Magnolia aka Nola at an Irish Pub in Chelsea while waiting to meet some coworkers. They feel a powerful attraction towards each other and engage in a passionate kiss. At the meet he learns Nola is off-limits because she is the half-sister to Nick who will work with him at SS. Nola is a real estate agent and has been waiting for a certain penthouse to go on the market. It is Unfortunate when she goes to inspect the dwelling; she is witness to a Russian mob killing. She ran for her life; the only person available to help her from SS is Stone. Together, they face many obstacles before reaching their happy forever.
Great exciting action romance story with credible character interaction and vivid scene descriptions. Nola held her own while being chased, and Stone aced his first case with SS. Their love for each other glows in this read. Received a pre-release copy and enjoyed this entertaining story.
It feels like this book was written by AI…and poorly
What happened to one of my favorite authors? This book is puddle surface level and that’s the best thing I can say about it.
The sentences are short, choppy, unimaginative, and without any depth whatsoever. Zero character development or richness. Rote, at best, dialogue and plot. Laughable details that make no sense. The whole book feels like a rushed, careless effort. Flat MMC and unlikable FMC.
And don’t get me started on the ridiculousness of the story itself. You get on the wrong side of the mob? They don’t just magically go away. Nola would have needed to go into witness protection and her riveting eyewitness testimony would absolutely NOT have been the nail in the coffin of putting away a mafia boss. “Sprinting” through New York, but having full sentence conversations, while cracking jokes and stopping to make out…while being hunted by the mob. A whole team of “the best security experts in the world” hiding out in their headquarters to leave one dude to get Nola (who is “family”) through hordes of Russian hitmen.
I get that these books are fantasy in many ways, but they shouldn’t be a complete joke either.
LOVED this Sentinel Security quick read OMG, it was so nice being back in the good hands of the Sentinel Security team. Killian Hawke is one of my favorite characters. This story centers on the new hire Knox Holman, a silver fox retired Marine Raider. At a local bar, Knox (Stone) is meeting with the team where he also meets a hot lady that surprisingly turns him on. He wants more until he finds Nola is the sister of a team member so she’s off limits. Magnolia (Nola) Newhouse is a New York realtor who just landed her biggest project. While doing a walkthrough in the condo she hears voices and is ready to kick these people out but what Nola sees is so horrific she knows she’s in big trouble. Somehow Nola temporarily escapes the mob guys. She phones Killian asking for help and finds herself being protected by Stone. The entire mob organization is up in arms looking for Nora, but Stone will never let anything happen to his wonderful pixie. The tension never lets up from Nola and Stone running for their lives to the tension of their HOT attraction. It was so good to catch up with the Sentinel Security team. Awesome story! Linda
Nick's little sister is up and she's dealing with kind of a lot. Not on the relationship front, but one the "she saw something the bad guys didn't want her to see and now they're after her" front. Stone might be new to Sentinel Security (and he might be trying to convince himself that he's too old and too jaded for someone as sweet as Nola), but he's not about to let anything bad happen to the first person in a while who makes him feel alive.
When things turn bad for Nola, Stone steps in to do what he needs to do to get her out of danger. Which is easier said than done since the bad guys are REALLY motivated to stop her from telling anyone what she saw. A few close escapes and a night spent in a safe house gets things going between the two of them, but the bad guys just won't stop coming.
A chase, a shoot-out or two (or more!), a steamy night spent one-on-one, a man who tries to convince himself to stay away (and fails miserably), and a lady who knows a good man when she sees him. I never regret time spent with Killian and his people. *thumbs up*
Super shorter story, after the rest of the Sentinel Security series!
Nola is waiting at a bar for her friends and her brother to show up, when she pairs a good looking silver fox, Knox. Then they both find out that he is working with her brother at Sentinel Security. So Knox turns her down. Then she witnesses a mob execution, and goes on the run. Knox is the only one close enough to get her to safety. But the whole mob is after her. Can Knox keep her safe AND keep his hands off her? Read this shorter story to find out.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is intense with an action oriented storyline that has some steamy scenes. The characters are vivid and kickass. Read this series in order, with this story last. But if you want to read a bunch of adventure romance stories in the same universe in chronological order, then read Treasure Hunter Security series in order, then Team 52 series in order, then Norcross Security series in order before starting Sentinel Security series in order. You can read the Billionaire Heists series in order after Norcross Security #4. After Sentinel Security series, you can read the Unbroken Heroes series in order. Enjoy!
I borrowed Stone ~ Sentinel Security ~ Book 6.5, by Anna Hackett, author from the Kindle Unlimited Program on Amazon.
Knox 'Stone' Holman is the new guy at Sentinel Security, where her brother works and new to New York City, when after his first day at work goes to a bar where he meets Nola Newhouse, the younger sister of Nick.
The next morning, Nola goes to a penthouse in a high rise to check over the staging so she can sell it, when she hears men's voices in the apartment. She see a mobster shoot another man in the forehead and runs for her life. As the only agent close to her, Knox comes to her rescue, they escape to a safe house overnight and go on the run again to get to the offices of Sentinel Security. Lots of action and danger with the help of a dog walker and a motorcycle they make it to safety.
Nick isn't happy that Knox is with Lola and has to accept it when she sticks up for Knox. (I love a tough lady that knows what she wants.) The mobster goes to jail, Nola is safe and she is with Knox, he is happy and has found the right woman for him. It does have a surprise ending...
Ok so I love Anna Hackett, love every book. But when they’re novella (under 200) you can tell it’s rushed to get the next plot point across.
Over all the story was hilarious and that’s in large part to our main girl , Nola. She’s fierce, sassy, and take no one’s crap independent kind of gal. She’s also stylish and glorious and girly….. you get the picture. Her story takes place over two days and it’s such a ride that you live 6 months in 2 days. That kind of CRAZY NIGHT , being hunted by the mafia & on the run around New York! And you get taken all around with bistros and parks and alleyways - through buildings and apartments it’s a literal on the go kind of story. But that’s what keeps you engaged in it!
Stone - is a character I would have liked more background on …. Because the books about him. But it’s mostly Nola. Stone is crazy competent for being new to New York for like less than a week. His skills to navigate and jump through alleyways was impressive.
The spice was 3/chilis 5 and ,…… a tad corny but still good.
This novella takes us back into NYC and the world of Sentinel Security. This time, we have new Sentinel Security employee, the sexy, silver fox Knox “Stone” Holman. Magnolia Newhouse (Nola), is the baby sister of his fellow employee, Nick Garrick (Wolf), so even though Knox and Nola hit it off when they met, Knox thinks of her as forbidden fruit. All it takes is for Nola to witness a terrible crime, and for the perpetrators to come after her; suddenly it’s Knox’s mission to keep her safe, and in close proximity…
A fast paced story, this one features plenty of cameos from the Sentinel Security crew and their other halves. There’s plenty of action, as well as some romance, and fans of the original series will definitely enjoy it. A quick, satisfying romantic suspense for fans of the author, and the series (it can be read as a standalone, but since it does feature a lot of the characters from the Sentinel Security series, it’s better when read after those!).
Stone and Nola meet organically at a bar but when he realises she's the sister of his colleague, he backs off and leaves her confused.
Nola felt and instant attraction to the silver haired hottie and the kiss they shared curled her toes but he blew her off, so his loss! But when she witnesses a murder she calls her brother but due to a medical emergency with his partner, Stone sends himself in his place. Now he has to get Nola to safety, whilst trying to keep her at arms length!
Nola was a brilliant FMC. She may have been out of her element but she was brave, confident, level headed and didn't moan once! Stone is perfect as the older, protector. He's been burned in love and he has some walls built up - walls that Nola is just going to bulldoze through!
This is short, action packed, steamy and insta-love to the nth degree! It takes place over 3 days and I loved the way that once they got out of their own way these two just went for their HEA!
I love that we got a little something for Nola and man this book was everything she deserved and so much more. I am sure growing up with Wolf as your older brother makes it difficult to not fall for his co-workers, even the one you don’t know is until you share your first kiss. Stone is a true silver fox! Finding a new career that is just as rewarding as the military career he left behind, the last thing he wants to do is break the bro code. Except the universe isn’t done putting them together, when Nola sees something, she isn’t supposed to and Stone is the closest to her to help keep her safe. Forced Proximity at its best and both of them realizing that risks in life are worth it for the right person. I LOVE that we got to see the whole Sentinel Security crew and watch as everyone protects Nola because she is one of the family. She is all sass and attitude, but has a huge heart of gold and watching her knock Stone down was perfection.
I want Nola's book since Nick and Lainie's book come out, but I understand she's not legally part of Sentinel so I didn't dare get my hopes up. BUT NOW IT'S HERE AAAA!!!!
Despite this is novella, it's not too short so it doesn't feel like to much rush despite definitely insta love. Nola's survival skill is top notch considering her job. She knew what to do and didn't hesitate ask for help when she needed it.
The only thing annoyed me is why Sentinel's step back and only rely on Stone. I mean, I understand not wanting to start shoot off on the street but come on, at least you can add one more bodyguard for her. Plus the whole ending when they arrived at Sentinel and suddenly they're safe is just... Weird. I mean, the different between street and Sentinel HQ was the "soldier"s so why not just send full force from the beginning? And using Killian's reputation only to make them back off is just.. I mean why not just send Killian's on the first place?
Hackett is brilliant with her military series. She creates action filled dynamic stories which seem plausible even as they are out there.
Stone or Knox is the new guy in New York. His first day on the job and he's kissed one of his co-workers sister. He wants her but the code is not to mess with family. So he steps back... at least until her life is in danger and then he does everything in his power to keep her alive.
Magnolia is bored with men but she wants what her best friend and half brother have - love, marriage and a baby. When she meets Knox, she boldly tells him she is interested and wants to spend more time with him.
This story is fast paced and a quick read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the dynamic. I wanted more - but that's because of how well Hackett writes and develops her story.
This was a great addition to the Sentinel Security series!
This was the perfect book to get me through my workout at the gym. It was entertaining and fast paced. There was the perfect amount of insta love and romance. And the action kept me invested from page one.
I love that we got a short novella for Nola. She was an instrumental secondary character in the first book of this series and it seemed fitting for her to be the fmc in the last installment. Her quick romance with the newly recruited Stone was great.
There was a lot packed into this novella. There was insta love, a little angst when Stone realized Nola was related to one of his new colleagues and a lot of action. There was a mob murder, a car chase, an adventure through the streets of New York to get to a safe house, and finally a stand off with Killian.
Ending his first day by meeting the team for drinks, Knox ‘Stone’ Holman enjoys a flirtation with realtor Magnolia ‘Nola’ Newhouse before everyone team arrives. When they do, the flirtation hits a brick wall, at least for Stone. The bro code is in effect, one of his teammates is Nola’s overprotective brother. Nola’s hurt by Stone’s sudden distance and the reason. The next day, Nola’s checking on a new listing and witnesses a mob murder. They want no witnesses. Nola barely escapes with her life but reaches Sentinel. Knox is on his own but closest to Nola when her call comes in. Danger is imminent when Knox snatches Nola from bad guy clutches weaving in and out of Soho crowds to safety. But that doesn’t last long because the mobsters aren’t giving up Rating: 4stars
