My new roommate is a hard-working, blue collar lineman–and a scorching specimen of a man–but I swear I don't watch him when he's not looking.

He's not looking, because Vaughn Collins knows that I, Valentina Brewster, have never been touched. And him? He's had more than a few rounds with the bucket bunnies.

I escaped a lifestyle where religious freedom wasn't accepted, and built a future for myself, when my uncle found me.

Now that I've stopped running, Vaughn wants to protect me, and I'm willing to let him do it. But the forced proximity is starting to get to us. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to hold off.

I'm terribly close to asking him to teach me all the things I've always wanted to know.

I have a feeling he'll have no problem saying yes…

Tropes Included

· small town

· blue collar

· forced proximity

· she asks him to teach her

· he's only tender for her

Vaughn is Book 5 in the Broken Falls series. It's Valentina "Val's" and Vaughn's story. It's a steamy, friends-to-lovers, instalove, OTT, forced-proximity, age-gap, virgin gets her bluecollar roommate, small-town romance. Val is a sweet virgin who grew up in a controlling religious cult and escaped. Vaughn is a hunky lineman with a soft spot for Val. He just wants to protect her from her past and living together as roommates only fuels the mutual attraction they are feeling. When she wants Vaughn to educate her, he is all too happy to be her teacher. The chemistry between these two was insane, but the story was also about found family and small town support. I am totally in love with Vaughn, too. What a perfect book boyfriend!! Our couple got a great HEA after some drama, but OMG, the ending!! I can't wait for Weston's story.

Hello Vaughn...I got to say I'm a bit surprised just how much I loved him. His patience with her was absolutely lovely. He saw that there was something behind her haunted eyes and wanted to be the one to conquer her fears and slay all her demons.

Val has lived such a different life before she came to Broken Falls. She's finally spreading her wings and trying not to think too much about her past. Vaughn has made his impact on her and with each msg between them, more feelings starts to grown and soon he will stop at nothing to make sure she's safe and loved the way she deserves.

From start to finish this story captured my heart and I'm definitely coming back to do a re-read or two.

Wow. I knew Val’s was going to be a moving story, but I wasn’t expecting anything like she gave us. I loved watching her new friends in Broken Falls stand beside her and support her. Becoming the family she should have had. And Vaughn? He’s just a big growly protector made up of pure book-boyfriend dreams. These two were adorable, and sweet, and so hot together. I adored every moment of seeing them fall for one another. But it’s that ending that’s gone and stolen all thoughts from my head. I desperately need to get my hands on the next book. NOW!

Vaughn and Valentina

I did love the two MCs - my problem is that the editing is lacking and it definitely needs proofreading. Chapters 10 and 12 were exactly the same, word for word. Please someone help this book be all that it can be!!!

This was a short but great read. I liked getting to read Valentina's story. I liked how patient Vaughn was with Valentina and respecting her boundaries. He let her take the lead and go as far as she was comfortable with. Valentina slowly became more confident and sure of herself throughout the book. I loved that Vaughn moved in with her after her uncle threatened her. He wanted to keep her safe. This was a good book and I enjoyed reading it.

The is book five in The Broken Falls Series and it is Vaughn and Val’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Val hasn’t had a easy life will living in a religious type cult and when something happened and nobody cared or came to help her she knew that if she didn’t leave she would end up in danger so that is how she ended up in Broken Falls and now working at Get Baked while living in a flat above which hopefully would keep her safe and even though she had some great friends it was Vaughn who was her go to person when she had difficult times which she really appreciated and she also had a bit of a crush on him and he also made her feel things but because she had lived such a sheltered life she didn’t know what she wanted and she also knew that eventually her past will collide with her present and that is what scared her the most. Vaughn is a linesman and works hard including a lot of hours which meant that he didn’t have much of a social life and also didn’t do relationships because of his past but when he met Val he felt something was different and wanted to be there for her in any way that he can even though he knew that she had secrets that were haunting her but he couldn’t stop his attraction to her either. The more time that Vaughn and Val spent together the closer they became so when Val’s past eventually caught up with her Vaughn is even more determined to get rid of that threat and protect Val especially since he realised that he had strong feelings for her and also wanted a future with her. Wow I absolutely loved this book and my heart broke for everything that Val had been through from the people that should have protected her and I was so glad that she got away from her toxic family and found people that would love, protect, support and be there for her when she needed it so it just shows that family is not always about blood which is what Val found in Broken Hills. Vaughn and Val were so perfect together and for each other in every single way and he was so sweet, caring, loving and showed Val what love was all about but never rushed her and only supported her to do what she wanted which in my books is what a true man is all about. This book is a real page turner and so addictive that I couldn’t put it down and the friendship that these people have is so important how they all rally round to help each other and not take anything for granted and that is what true friendship is all about. I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.

Val moved to Broken Falls a few months ago. She escaped an extreme family situation, and now she's just trying to adjust to independent life. A normal life. She got a job at a bakery, and a little apartment. She's even made a couple of friends, people she feels like she can trust. That's new for her.
Vaughn is an electric lineman. He has a pretty tight group of friends in his crew. There's a new girl at the bakery, though. He doesn't know what it is about her, but she's different. Like she's learning everything for the first time. He can see confusion and curiosity in her eyes, over everyday things. But there's also a vulnerability there, and he has a deep desire to protect her.
Vaughn and Val make an unlikely pair. He's rough and outspoken. She's shy and skittish. Always looking over her shoulder. And for good reason, it seems. When someone from her past finds her, and threatens to drag her back, Val needs Vaughn's help. An encounter leaves her shaking. To protect her, Vaughn decides to stay with her.
Vaughn is really sweet with Val. He can tell that she is running from something, but he doesn't know what, and he doesn't want to push. She is hesitant to share her story with anyone because she's afraid they'll look at her differently. But she realizes she doesn't have to worry about that with Vaughn. He'll be there for her, no matter what.
And Val is stronger than she thinks. She's already run from the only life she's ever known, and is rebuilding herself, one day at a time.
I like that, even though Val is unsure, she picks herself up and puts one foot in front of the other, making her new life. She doesn't necessarily need Vaughn, but she chooses to invite him into her life, and she lets him and his friend group embrace her. After what she went through, it was hard for her to trust, so that was a big step for her.
This was largely a story about breaking free and moving forward, and letting love in.
As always, strong characters and an engaging story line.

Vaughn is the next installment in The Broken Falls series by Laramie Briscoe. Each book is a standalone in the series, but interconnected and recommended to read in series order. For those that like a small-town, forced proximity, found family, secret cinnamon roll romance, this one's for you.

This lovely little novella is Val and Vaughn’s story. For a book with less than 200 pages, there was a lot to unpack with this story. Val is a new addition to Broken Falls, and coming from a less than conventional (aka cult like) family, she is somewhat sheltered and surprised to see how the people of the small town welcome her. Vaughn is a linesman, and work takes up the majority of his time, but there is just something about Val that has him breaking his normal routine. The more time they spend together, the more and more they like each other, and not just as friends.

But like life does, it catches up to you and this time it’s coming for Val. Vaughn goes into protection mode and makes it his life mission to ensure that she sees this next mess through. To say that Val had a toxic family would be an understatement, but Vaughn is more worried about her safety than anything, and will do anything to make sure she is safe, this makes Val fall even more in love with him of course.

I really was pretty surprised with the plot in this story. When I saw how short the novella was, I didn’t expect it to be so well thought out and developed. Novella’s are short and quick, many times with a fun, cute little peak of a couple or something, but this one was so well thought out and well done. My heart went out to Val for all she had suffered with her crazy family, but also how to survive it and made it to a better place and her happily ever after. Vaughn was everything she needed and more, and I think she was what he needed as well.

This is the 5th book in the Broken Falls series featuring the continuation of the blue-collar,small-town, reformed badboy romances that Ms. Briscoe is known for. We've seen Vaughn in previous books the sexy grumpy lineman who's away for long periods of time after a storm repairing the lines. Val is new to Broken Falls after escaping the religious cult she grew up in by running away in the middle of the night. Val works at Get Baked the local bakery in town which is where she meets Vaughn. When Vaughn comes into the bakery and sees Val they have an instant connection. However Vaughn can tell that she's running from something so he finds a patience within himself because he knows that Val is worth it. The sexy lineman feels very protective of the shy new girl even though she's nervous of men. Vaughn bides his time with his friends which is how we get to visit all of our great friends from previous books. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this wonderful blue-collar,forced proximity, instant connection, small-town romance to see what happens. I would definitely recommend reading this book and I'm looking forward to the next book in this beautifully written series.

3.5 Fiery Hearts!

*I received this book free from Buoni Amici Press.*

Vaughn is a bad boy gone good for Val. He's a lineman, always on the road, always content with casual hookups. That all changes the first time he met Val.

Val grew up in a large family where she helped take care of her many younger siblings. In a family where women were seen and not heard. After she realized she was not safe in her own home and that no one there would protect her, she fled. Luckily, she met the right people and landed the perfect job all on her first day in town.

Vaughn is a small town romance about two people from completely different backgrounds. Vaughn learns he's a protector, and protecting Val is his number one priority. Val learns that true friends are a real thing and they not only stand by her side, they also help her grow and discover the woman she was meant to be. Letting Vaughn in took some time, but she is willing to learn everything with his help. Even driving. LOL!

The book follows suit with the other Broken Falls books. All the characters make their appearances and remind you why you are still reading this series. They are all sweet, with a little fire and quick reads. Plus, my favorite part....the cover! If that doesn't grab ahold of your attention, then we are on completely different wave lengths.

This is book 5 in the Broken Falls Series. While all books can be read as a standalone, it's advisable to read them in order. There are multiple characters and couples and the stories all interconnect.

I loved Vaughn, although he seems to be a man that is rough around the edges, those edges seem to smooth out when he meets Val. He knows that she's shy and quiet, and that she's intriguing. However, when he gets closer to her and learns her past, his possessiveness will come out and he'll do whatever it takes to protect her.

Val is a woman that wanted a new start to her life and to learn what the "outside" world was like. When she finds the bakery and is hired on the spot, she knows that she's found somewhere that she can be happy. When the sexy, hardworking, Vaughn comes into the bakery, she can't seem to get him off her mind. When her past catches up to her and she's afraid of what could happen, Vaughn will step up to be the man to protect her.

I love this series and the characters, Vaughn is such a sweet guy when it comes to Val and he's so patient with her. He's happy to teach her everything. The only thing I was missing is this was how things panned out with her uncle.

In the past books in this series, Vaughn was very much a loner and rather closed off. When he met Val (Valentina) everything began to change. She makes him want to be a better man, a man worthy of someone so pure of heart and innocent. Val has been very reserved and closed off herself, as she adjusts to a life outside of her very religious family where all aspects of her life were strictly controlled. Now, she is beginning to come out of her shell, ready to experience a bit more of life, explore a little and make new friends. Vaughn has always been kind to her and makes her feel both safe and somehow excited too. As they explore their connection and both begin to want something more than friendship they must also confront her past.

I loved how Val softens Vaughn’s rough edges and brings out a softer, more tender version of him. He is patient, protective and possessive with her. Most importantly, he lets her test her boundaries, be in control of what happens between them, and encourages her to tell him what she needs and wants. She was never able to do any of that when she was with her family. Val blossoms into a more confident, happier and more approachable woman. I loved their connection and their steam-inducing chemistry.

I heartily recommend this captivating book.

Vaughn Collins is a blue-collar lineman working to ensure that the power stays on in Broken Falls and the surrounding area. He loves the job and his best friends and “brothers” in town. His next trip to Get Baked will change his life and focus when he meets Valentina Brewster. She is a new worker at the bakery and there is something about her that calls to him, her shy smile, her innocence. He finds himself drawn to her day after day, but knows he is too experienced for her. As they begin a friendship, he realizes that wherever she was before, her life has been extremely sheltered. As she slowly works up the courage to share her past, he is aware that she has never shared true intimacy with a man. There is also a sense that she has felt threatened by someone, but will she confide in him and allow him to protect her? As they begin to explore the wonder of love that neither expected, the past returns to threaten her. Will he be able to keep her safe and finally put an end to those who would harm her? A beautiful and earthy love story. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

This is book 5 in the series and it was just as good as all the rest. It could easily be read as a stand alone but I think it is best to read the whole lot of them. A wonderful small town, forced proximity, unexpected relationship but so many feels.

Val was forced to get out of her home life by the fear that she felt. Knowing that things were different where she comes from. She is determined to get out on her own live life to the fullest. Finding her luck when she walked into Get Baked and finding work with Gabby.

Vaughn is a hard working linesman who is happy to work. He doesn't do relationships because he knows he can get called out at a moments noticed. But he finds himself drawn to the new girl at the bakery. The more he gets to know Val the more he sees that shes different and he want to help her find herself. Sure he is damn attacted to her but it is more.

This is a wonderful book of first and finding the family you deserve when you don't have the family you need. This group and their connection is so great to be a part of.

Oh Vaughn. He is the book boyfriend you just dream of having. He grew up in town and became a lineman. When he first met her, he was taken by her. She is special and he could tell from the start. She grew up in a very controlling family, and finally escaped the demons of her past. She is looking to make a life for herself, and she really likes the hot lineman who is so gentle with her.. This is really such a sweet story. The character development is good. You have a strong sense of each of them what they’ve been through and what is currently driving them. He is so protective, but in such a sweet and respectful way. The story is well written, taking them slow slowly, but romantically through their story. Of course they get their HEA wrapped up in the epilogue. This is the fifth book in a series. I had not read the prior ones and was able to read this one as a complete stand alone. However, it is clear that there is a group of characters who story have been developed in prior books, so I want to go back and read them to see how they got here. So if you have the opportunity, I would read them in order.

What A guy!! If you’ve been following along with this series, you know how Vaughn appeared in previous books. He was a standoffish grump except when it came to the shy, innocent new girl in town.

When new girl in town, Val catches the eye of Vaughn, we see another side of this tall sexy lineman. She left her family home by sneaking off in the middle of the night and none knows what she escaped from. While Vaughn doesn’t know the life she left behind, he knows that he is attracted to her and will do whatever it takes to keep her safe from whatever gives her nightmares. Vaughn and his close-knit group of friends embrace Val as she makes a new life for herself in their small town.

This author has done it again and this is now my favorite of the series… behind Big, Bad Boone! We get to see all the friends from previous books and what I loved most is how tender Vaughn was in this book. We get to see him interact with his father and display the love the two share. What an awesome book about an awesome man!

We get 2 epilogues, and I can’t wait to read Weston’s story next!!

Vaughn was a little bit of an enigma previously in the series. We knew he was a lineman and gone more often than not. He did intrigue me, I’ll admit, especially his reaction to Valentina the first time he saw her in Get Baked.

The thing about V is that he was a guy was just waiting for the right woman to cross his path before he got serious, he just didn’t realise it. Val hit him like a ton of bricks and brought out his protective, patient, caring side.

Valentina….. the gods, I loved her strength and her concern that she was swapping one situation for another until she realised that Vaughn was there to support and care for her, not hold her back.

I liked the time they spent together, getting to know each other and the trust that she showed him after everything she’d been through. He, for his part, listened to her, got her like no one had ever tried to in the past and helped her find herself.

Always enjoy catching up with the gang and liked the relationship Val had with Gabby. It definitely felt like a blooming sibling relationship and it was lovely that Val had so much support and so many people looking out for her - even when it came to Vaughn, though she knew herself enough to know what she wanted where the big brooding bloke was concerned.

I’m now really intrigued with Nolan and his situation. Can’t wait for his book!!!!

For a quick read this story sure did pack a lot of emotions and heat with amazing characters, making it easy to love them. The moment Vaughn lays eyes on Val, he knew almost immediately that there was something special about her and even though he doesn’t see himself ever settling down he feels this fierce need to protect her. Val has escaped her family who is beyond controlling and straight up crazy, but she is proving to herself that she can do it and she does, but with a family like hers you just know they wont let her disappearance go easy. Val is so innocent and sweet that it takes everything in Vaughn to never cross that line, but when Val’s past tries to threaten her all bets are off. Can this former playboy be everything that a sweet innocent girl like Val needs? Vaughn is book boyfriend perfection that I love and Val is naive but fierce in her own ways, the only issue was things with her family were never really wrapped up and left me guessing.

This is the fifth book in this impressive series, and this is Vaughn and Valentina’s story.
Vaughn is a hardworking, blue collar lineman, who has been attracted to Val since she arrived in town. Val has a heartbreaking story with her less than conventional toxic family, but she escaped that cult lifestyle for a fresh start in life. Vaughn has a soft spot for Val and she brings out his protective and tender side, and he will do whatever he must to keep her safe and protected.
This is a beautifully written story which is emotionally charged, with family dynamics, friendships, acceptance, danger, suspense, intrigue, forced proximity, roommates / lovers, trauma, humor, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and heartfelt, small town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Book 5 in series couple.

Valentina has led a sheltered life, shackled to the excessive religious practices and beliefs of her family. Her escape to Broken Falls and securing a job with Gabby is new beginning. Yet she hesitates to trust, to share her fears and secrets of her sheltered upbringing. Vaughan has been a Jack the Lad with the ladies, taking his pleasure fast and loose. He enjoys his life, his friends, his work and has suffered from his parents divorce. He is enamoured with the girl from the bakery and it shocks him to the core as their friendship becomes more.
Two opposites, trust and patience runs side by side with passion. Both are likeable characters and fit well together, both as a couple and with the friends circle.
Love the introduction of Weston and his situation that creeps in at the end...

Each one of the Broken Falls books is like hitting the jackpot if you love small town, blue collar romances. The guys are strong and loving and their women are true gems. They are the perfect romances; I finish each one with a smile on my face. Have you heard the saying that a reformed bad boy makes the best boyfriend? Vaughn is the personification of that. He is so sweet and caring to Val, even when he is kissing the breath out of her. Val's upbringing was so restrictive, so oppressive before she fled to Broken Falls. She is determined to finally live her life her way. Vaughn has gone through his days, working hard, hanging with friends and not forming any emotional attachments. The connection they find in each other was truly magical. I was absolutely mesmerized by their chemistry. An absolutely beautiful read!

Finally the story of Vaughn, the lineman of the Broken Falls crew that is not one for relationships as he is always gone for extended periods of time repairing lines after storms but that was until he walked into Get Baked and met the new woman to town Val behind the counter. Val is new to town and its obvious she is running from something and very skittish of men. But that doesnt deter Vaughn he instantly becomes very protective of her and there is something that makes Val feel safe with him as well. Not going to give any spoilers but Vaughn's protectiveness takes on a whole new level when what Val is running from comes to town. Love this story and seeing Val grow to really feel a part of the crew and take a stand for what she was running from while embracing her growing relationship with Vaughn.
Cant wait for Weston's book after Epilogue 2 of this book.

Let the healing begin

Vaughn is book 6 in the Broken Falls series. Honestly each book in this series just get better and better. The richness of these characters and the history they each bring to their partners is amazing. The group of friends are also some of the best characters ever.

Vaughn knew when he met Valentina she was different. He also sensed she was running from something. He had time and he found he could be patient. Val thought her world couldn’t get any better when she met Gabby. Then she found something new in Vaughn’s looks that she wanted more of. When Val’s past catches up to her can their new path hold up to what happens.

Vaughn is a rougher character with his own past but the strength and understanding that he shows Val as they get to know each other is what dreams are made of.

Finally we find out about Val, where she can from and why she is all alone, what she left from before arriving there. It is a doozy.
Val is innocent about a lot things and escaped a bad home.
Val tells Vaughn she wants it is like to be with a man, him.
He knows something happened to her before leaving her previous home, so he takes it slow with her.
It is very erotic with these 2.
Unfortunately a person from her family finds her and tries to convince her to come home, saying you do not leave your family.
This person seems to preach but not follow the Lord's rules. He just makes his own rules, to benefit him.
Then there is a severe storm and the town is caught in the main part of it. I love Val's response to the after effects of the storm.
I love the ending, so magical.

Vaughn is swoony sweet, gorgeously delivered, and deliciously beautiful. Val is such an amazing character—bold, brave, and strong, she got herself out of a nightmare situation, determined to make a better life for herself. Learning her story is just beginning; true to his character Vaughn takes his time getting to know her and always putting her needs and safety first. I love how this romance unfolds a little bit at a time while we get to know Val and Vaughn, and they get to know each other. They are each in different stages of healing from their broken pasts, and it’s beautiful how they support each other and have open and direct dialogue around anything and everything. I love this friend group and can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Vaughn is book 5 in the Broken Falls series written by the amazing author Laramie Briscoe. The Broken Falls Series is a series of interconnected standalone novels following a group of friends who have become family in small-town West Virginia. You do not have to read them in order, but I strongly suggest reading the books in order. Vaughn Collins and Valentina Brewster are the next couple in this awesome series. It's a novella, short but full of everything you want and expect from Laramie. It is a beautiful story of facing your fears and finding good friends and someone to stand by you. A must read!!
Tropes; small town, blue collar, forced proximity, he's only tenderhearted with her.
Can’t wait for the next book.

After reading book #4 I was adamant on reading Val & Vaughn's story, and it did not disappoint!
Val has led a very sheltered life with her religious family, who sounded absolutely awful because of the way men treated women. Val is a just-a-fling guy, but he’s feeling very protective of Val from the very beginning. I loved how he was this patient with her and taught her everything she needed to know about a healthy relationships and life in general.

“…. I don't know why, because I've never felt responsible for another person in my life, but I want to be responsible for you."

“…. We're stronger together." He entwines our hands. "This bond? It's unbreakable, babe.".

Val and Vaughn are just something you don’t think would fit together but do.

She rolled into town and hit this lineman off his feet that first time walking in the bakery. But she was too young and innocent for him to even think about touching till that one night and that one storm changing everything.

Now they are navigating a relationship neither think they deserve.

This book shows that the bad boy can get the sweet good girl. And shows that sweet good girl that some bad boys have sweet spot. They help each other heal. And he protect her even from the ones who are supposed to have your back.

If you love the happily ever after with steam, protectiveness and a little storm with a tornado. Then Vaughn is your book!!!

Vaughn is the fifth book in the Broken Falls series. Vaughn is a hard-working lineman and one of the close group of friends that reside in Broken Falls. Valentina is a recent transplant to the area who is keeping a few secrets. Vaughn was easy to like. His thoughtfulness and consideration with Val proved the kind of man he is. From the beginning, it is clear Val has stolen his heart and he goes all out for her. Val wasn’t as easy to understand. Some of her fear was relatable, but I had trouble understanding why some of her secrets were so difficult for her to share. Characters from the prior books make appearance and some of the best dialogue is when the group is together.
