A kaleidoscope is a cylinder full of broken pieces, yet everyone still stares at it in awe. Who’s to say the same can’t be said for women?
Before being thrust in the violent and terrifying sex-trafficking industry, Kristina Svoboda lived in a tiny hamlet in her home country of Czechia. She had an unfulfilling yet peaceful life before she drew the eye of a royal-blooded aristocrat who took what he wanted and lived his life without consequences.
For six years, she’s been beaten, tortured, and exploited, yet her shoulders don’t carry the weight of her abuse. Her heart does, which is exactly what Trey Corbyn plays on when he spots her from afar seconds after she’s released from captivity.
He sees past the frail skin, hollow eyes, and waif-thin exterior.
He sees a survivor. A woman. Someone just as broken as him.
With his instincts no longer in existence and his possessiveness dangerous, can a broken man fix a fragilely timid woman? Or will his insecurities worsen her cracks until they reach a point they’ll be unfixable?
Trey: European Redemption is a gritty story about finding love in the darkest of places. It’s raw, intimidating, and shows even when you’ve been beaten to believe otherwise, sometimes dreams do come true. This book has violent scenes that may be distressing to some readers. Caution is advised. It is book seven in the Russian Mob Chronicles, however, it can be read as a standalone.
Shandi Boyes is a USA Today Bestselling Author who was an avid reader for many years before she discovered the love of writing in February 2016. Her first penned novel 'Perception of Life’ is a new adult rockstar romance that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat until the very last word.

Shandi’s novel ‘Enigma of Life’ is an award-winning story on an FBI agent and the subject she was assigned to investigate. Her men are swoon-worthy, devoted, and alpha; and her heroines are strong-willed, determined, and loveable. You should start her stories first thing in the morning, or you may not sleep.

You will laugh and you will cry, but my characters will stay with you forever!
I love writing and reading. They are both my passion. My genre is generally set to new adult and contemporary, with a few twists thrown in.
Dnf @ 40% Lots of rape by her captors. Constant pain, suffering, and agony by the literal MMC. I can’t possibly understand how this is a romance, even dark. I get he’s supposed to be dark & damaged but he literally mistreats her so horribly after just getting rescued from sex trafficking. Being drunk/high isn’t an excuse.
Also, upon rescuing her from being raped, beaten, starved his first impression is getting hard. Really?
After surviving hell, I would’ve liked for her to be safe, protected, loved by the MMC. Instead, he’s dousing her open wounds in hot chlorine, cornering her because he’s jealous and drunk, making her “work for food” by forcing her to be brave, because “only brave people deserve second chances.”
Ultimately, this was horrid. I want to throw my Kindle and get my time back never reading this author again.
Trey: European Redemption is the seventh book in the Russian Mob Chronicles by Shandi Boyes. This book is definitely one of Shandi Boyes’ more disturbing stories. The story both unsettled and intrigued me at the same time. There were parts that made me incredibly uncomfortable with what was playing out and times I really wanted to close the book and walk away. I cannot honestly say that it is my favourite story of hers- but it definitely stirred quite a lot of reactions from me- tossing my emotions around like they were nothing but a rag doll. So, I do have to give her props for that. This book has played on my mind a lot since I finished reading it, and has had me mulling over how I was going to review it- let alone rate it. But I think a story that can evoke so much from the reader, really does deserve some recognition. I love dark and disturbing stories- normally the darker the better. I like to have my mind twisted and my emotions toyed with. This story isn’t as dark as some that I have read and enjoyed- but there is something about it that left me uncomfortable and a little distressed. I took about eight pages of notes while reading this book- which is double what I normally do. There are so many triggers in this book- so be warned! This is NOT a light and fluffy read. If you are looking for hearts and flowers, unicorns and rainbows- then this is definitely NOT the book for you. This story is NOT for the faint of heart. It is NOT a romance in the true sense of the word. So, let me make it clear- this is a Russian Mob/Mafia romance- with graphic violence, drug use/abuse/addiction, sex trafficking/exploitation/rape, violence towards women, swearing, brutality, torture, guns, blood, gore, and more. Trey is a dangerous unhinged Alpha Male I would class as an anti-hero, and I really wasn’t sure I was going to like him in the beginning with all his hard partying, manwhore, deadly ways. And poor Kristina has been so brutalised, held captive for years in the sex trafficking industry, so used and abused- my heart broke (and ached) for her and what she had been through- but I also admired the strength it took to get through all that without completely losing her mind. They are both damaged and broken- but form an intense connection despite it all. Will they be able to lead each other out of the darkness? You will need to read the story if you want to find out. This is told from a duel/alternating POV- which really allows the reader to get a full perspective of what is going on and what is going through the characters minds as the story plays out. I appreciated getting such a rounded perspective of the story. There are a few flashbacks which help to build the backstory, as well as adding to the character depth and development. There are a few issues that I found with this book that I don’t normally find or have with Shandi Boyes books- editing issues, and storyline issues. Then there were sentences/paragraphs with double spaces between words, while the rest of the book had a single space between words. Happy to say that these issues didn’t detract from my overall reading experience. There is a nice surprise at the end of the book in the form of a sequel (novella) which is free to download (through the link supplied at the end)- which gives us more of Trey and Kristina’s story and answers some questions we may have initially been left with. I debated what rating to award this book given that it disturbed me so much and really did make me so uncomfortable- which is really hard to do given that I love dark reads- so I came to the conclusion that the book deserved the 5 stars just for that reason alone.
Horrifically depressing. Nothing romantic about this at all. Simply a graphic stroll through some sad victim’s trauma. Beyond dark, just tragic. Supposedly the HEA is that she eventually gets free from her sexual captivity and finds love with MMC. Personally that was vastly insufficient to make up for the trauma porn the reader is forced to suffer through for the large bulk of this book (like 85%). Hated it.
Sooooo where to start, because WOW. we were previously introduced to Trey in Nikolai's books (and can i just mention how much I love some of the overlap). He's not a nice man, but it works for him. He will kill you for looking at those he cares about the wrong way, literally. He takes what he wants, offers no apologies and is one dirty son of a gun. He's basically broken. Hes seen some terrible shit and gone through even worse. "K" aka Kristina aka Duchess is one hell of a book heroine. She was dealt a crap hand that was followed by an even crappier hand. Her strength that she keeps throughout the story is mind-blowing. When Trey sees her for the first time (after she's rescued from a holding compound) that's it. Nothing else matters for him. It wasn't even how she looked, but what he saw in her eyes. Everything that matched him. He is definitely not a coddling type at first. He's so angry about everything shes faced, and knows he can bring her back to where she can thrive. Tough love ensues. I rooted the entire way through the book for them. For healing for both. For finding some semblance of a healthy mentality. I cant even fathom how Shandi felt writing some of the scenes. Is it violent? Yup. Does it give you hope that anyone can be helped? Absolutely. Does it make you wonder, even days after reading it? Yep. Its a fantastic, dark, hopeful and gut wrenching read (fucking tire irons). If you're squeamish, or looking for a beach read i wouldn't suggest this. If you want something you'll never forget and don't mind a little dark (ok a lot) with your sunshine than go for it.
Writing is very confusing to follow which makes it unenjoyable to read unfortunately. I tried to read this 3 separate times and finally on the third time I made it about half way through before still having to stop reading because it was just making no sense.
I loved this steamy dark romance story. This author has continued to impress me with her attention to details and her writing skills. This is not my first book by this author but it ranks up there as one of my favorites. This is a well developed story that has characters that made the story pop off the pages. I found it to be engaging and fast paced. I read this story in one sitting as it is that awesome. I had no problem connecting with the characters as they brought the story to life for me. This is a story about Kristina and Trey. She has had a lot of trauma in her life and has been left scarred in many ways. Trey sees her as so much more than her past but has his own insecurities. What will fate have in store for these two? Will they find each other or will their insecurities be unfixable? This is a dark story that could cause some triggers but if you can get past that you will find a story you will love as much as I did. I highly recommend this book and this author.
Trey is Nikolai’s second in command and he has many of the same traits as Nikolai, and he owes Nikolai his life but he has a niggling self doubt that makes him impetuous. This is an interesting book as not only do we come to know Trey, but we also get glimpses into Nikolai’s psyche that makes him more human somehow and it seems that Trey is emulating him. There is nothing warm and fuzzy in this book, it is full of death, violence, dirt, drugs and misogynistic behavior and yet the reader is drawn in and follows the transformation of Trey’s psyche as he falls in love with Kristina. It is a compelling read but not for the feint of heart.
K journey is heartbreaking, brutal, confronting and emotional.
Trey is a Nikolai #1 his angry, broken, possessive alpha male, ready to go to war to avenge his woman and keep her safe no amount of bloodshed will keep him away
A love story that survives through the most heartbreaking and brutal of situation
Trey: European Redemption (Russian Mob Chronicles Book 7) by Shandi Boyes is a dark romance story. Shandi Boyes is not one to shy away from the darker side of things and likes to push the boundaries to give us something raw and twisted. There may be triggers for some as it deals with human trafficking, violence, abuse and more. If you can see past these you will find that whilst it makes you cringe at times it is a great story. Shandi’s writing always captivates and enthrals me as I stepped into the world of mafia’s and the utter despicable darkness in there.
I loved this dark and intense mafia read. Trey is a mafia man and when he spots K, he knows that she is just as broken as he is. Will he help to put the pieces back together or destroy them even further? Fast-paced read with amazing characters, loads of drama and intense chemistry. I was hooked from beginning to end.
The idea is interesting, but the delivery is lacking.
The notion for the plot was very interesting, and parts of it are definitely engrossing, but overall, the writing style leaves a lot to be desired. First off, the diction is dismal. I'm not sure if the misused words are typographical errors from missed corrections to verbal dictation or the author not knowing the real meaning of the word they're using. The second thing that drove me up a bloody wall was that there's huge chunks of the story missing. Readers don't get the journey between the start of some scenario to the conclusion of the situation, instead the story skips from the start to the end with no detailing of what happened in the middle, showing the aftermath but no details how they got there. The details that actually make up the story are totally skipped. And what's worse is it happens over and over again throughout the book. You get the start of some scenario, and then it skips to the end and just kind of throws in hints of what happened in between in off-hand comments between characters. Case in point is the whole scenario in which Nikolai and Justine disappeared. the book starts off detailing how they're searching for them only to go off the rails because Kay is kidnapped again and then never lets you know if/when/how they found Nikolai, who attacked them and what happened. The book just blips over 5 years later and starts describing his entry to a party, for what or why the party is being hell we don't know only that he's looking for his wife and they're about to have sex that's it. Mention is tossed in about Nikolai, so you know he lived, but you don't know what happened. Must be saved for some other book which I won't be reading because there's just too much of this one missing.
It's as if the author can't write the details that she leads us up to, and then just cuts the threads of that plot point like they never existed. Why not portray a couple of pages of somebody clawing their way back from psychosis or doesn't the author want to take the time to explore that, and doesn't want to explain how one Russian outfit relates to another, and who's who in the story. Maybe because the writer relying on readers having read the other books (which I haven't), but it wouldn't take but a few lines here there of inner monologue or conversation to lay out that background, but this author can't be bothered with writing a coherent story. I don't care that Trey is dragging K all over the countryside after she's clawed her way out of her catatonic state, I want to know WHAT HE DID to get her out of her catatonic state, HOW their relationship was built, not just see that she suddenly recovered in there running around the country together for a reason I don't know and the author hasn't bothered to explain.
With a writing style so splotchy and so full of holes, gaps in plot, and lacking in details I'm not interested in reading any of her other books, or starting at the beginning of the series because the gaps are so huge and obviously intentional that I don't think the author has bothered to explain how any of this fits together in any of the other books either and starting at the beginning would not fix how badly the plot development is executed. In a nutshell the writing style is like the author has come up with some catchy, cool phrases, coupled with some standalone badass (read toxically masculine and repetitive) actions -- the guys repeatedly punching each other, pin each other to a wall and threaten each other -- and splices those together rather than actually building a story through detailed scenarios fleshed out with emotions and thoughts from characters developing relationships. instead of seeing the relationships develop we're told they do and then see some aftermath. It's just one aphorism after another spliced with some probative prose about the human condition, pain and suffering, and living with one's past that aren't really connected that much to the characters unfortunately and littered are sometimes littered with diction errors, missing the point of telling a story -- which is the reader EXPERIENCING THE JOURNEY between the beginning and the aftermath and how the situation built, not just about how everything ended up and concluded, but how we got there.
Human Trafficking Is a Hard Topic .... crude language can't make up for emotion ★★✰ 2 1/2 Stars ★★✰
This is a hard one to review. I realize when human trafficking is involved the read can be raw and gritty…. and this one certainly is all that. For me it was too raw and too gritty. It seemed like every other word was the F bomb or wh0re or some other sleazy word. I like to read the plot line and that kind of ‘stuff’ turns me off in a book because it takes away from the storyline. A storyline on this sensitive subject is raw enough, we don’t need every other word being expletive NOT deleted.
👁 OBSERVATIONS:
… The emotion in this story could have been very good had it been the emphasis. Unfortunately it is camouflaged with unnecessary sleaze. Human trafficking provides more than enough rawness, it does’t need extra help.
… I felt badly for K and for Trey. They both draw you into the horrors of a world few people see. The perversion is sickening, the depravity of that world is intense, raw and smutty.
… For me, this book is too graphic, too detailed, too unrealistic. Don’t get me wrong, I know this subject matter never is pretty, nor can it be skimmed over. I just felt it could have been a better read with more ‘feeling’ of the characters emotions rather than trying to use constant, degrading words to show the emotion. The cursing is just language that we ‘hear’, it doesn’t provoke emotions like ‘seeing’ or ‘feeling’ an experience. Those words, when used over and over, and over, tend to be cheap and disgusting rather than seeing and feeling what is happening.
… I wanted to know WHY Nikolai did buy ‘K’. He claimed he wasn’t into purchasing his ‘wh0res’…. so what was the real reason he bought her for more than a million dollars? Was it because he knew she was the ONE for Trey …. past, present and future? It’s not made clear why he bought her since it went against his practices. I got the impression he didn’t know until much later that K was the one he bought.
… I almost stopped reading by the first couple chapters since constant barrage of crude language was a complete turnoff. I didn’t for two reasons. I promised to read the entire book to review it and I hoped it would change as I got into the book.
… I gave two and a half stars because for me, in this book, the author wasted her writing talent by trying to substitute crude language for emotion and writing skill.
Trey: European Redemption (Russian Mob Chronicles Book 7) By Shandi Boyes 5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading the book Trey: European Redemption (Russian Mob Chronicles Book 7) by Shandi Boyes. It is a story that pulls you in from the beginning and I was hooked. It is a dark story that includes danger and suspense. It is a book that has a dark atmosphere and had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the characters of Kristina Svoboda and Trey Corbyn. Kristina is a woman who for the last six years made to endure life in the sex-trafficking industry. She is intelligent, stubborn, and has a will to survive. Trey is a man that when he looks at Kristina sees a woman who has survived. Although he is a broken man, he finds himself drawn to and possessive of Kristina. Can two people who are broken make each other whole again? Read this book to find out what happens to Trey and Kristina. This is a story that has heartbreaking moments. The treatment that Kristina makes made me feel both angry and sad for her. She is a character that I couldn’t help but have empathy for. This is a book that takes you on a journey into dark places and does have some scenes that may be hard to read about. The story is written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with the characters. Don’t miss out on a book that you won’t be able to put down until the final page. I highly recommend reading it.
Trey: European Redemption (Russian Mob Chronicles Book 7) by Shandi Boyes
5 Stars
So I totally messed up reading this book, I only read the very first Nikolai then jumped into this one...For me this was a big mistake. I was so confused trying to remember things and could tell there was so much that happened in between...but in true Shandi fashion she made it to where I'd get over those moments and then couldn't put the book down. Shandi Boyes is in a class of her own, her talent is unmatched in these types of books. I will remedy my situation and have all of these books read in order very soon!
The action, the suspense, the emotion, the danger, the never knowing what's going to happen next made this book completely amazing. There were parts that were seriously hard to read, but it's a dark mafia romance..that kind of comes with the territory.
I'm completely amazed at how this author can continue to release all of these books in all different series and each one feels completely new. Her stories are never predictable and I love that. I loved K and Trey, I loved their sweet sides and their not so sweet sides, and how they bridged the communication gap they had.
I totally loved this book and in my opinion even though it can be read I suppose as a stand alone I truly believe they all need to be read in order.
Thank you Shandi Boyes for yet another awesome story!
Trey: European Redemption is the seventh book in Shandi Boyes’ Russian Mob Chronicles Series. It is a dark dark story that blows your mind! You can read it as a standalone but I promise you that you will want to know more about the people you come across in the story so prepare, you will need to tackle six more books once you have finished Trey. In this amazing story we meet Trey and Kristina aka K. Shandi has once more woven a story that makes you part of the very fabric of it and it will haunt you for a long time to come. The journey that the both have been on for years, it leaves you broken and to find a way out to some sort of sanity … it is remarkable. I can imagine some saying that this book is too graphic, too detailed but when I think of the horrors of human trafficking, I don’t think that anything can be too much as we need to be reminded over and over again what it does to our fellow humans so that we are vigilant and step up when needed. I am grateful to Shandi that she does not shy away to tackle something so dark that one could easily lost their way so I want to leave you with what Trey says to K to bring her back from the darkness she has gotten lost in : “The dark won’t last forever. Even on the blackest nights, stars still shine through. Let me be that star for you, Duchess. Let me guide you out of the dark.”
I won’t lie, I get excited when I see there is a new Russian Mob Chronicles book from Shandi Boyes. When I found out we were getting Trey’s book it was even sweeter of a deal. I loved him and the tidbits we got in Nikolai’s story so I knew this was gonna be one I was going to adore. I was not for one moment disappointed! I would recommend that you read the other books in the series before diving into this one. You will understand the world a bit better for sure that Trey is a part of.
When Trey meets Kristinia he is immediately drawn to her and consumed really by her. Trey is known for his protective personality and would do anything to protect the ones he loves and now Kristina is apart of that category. She has had one hell of a past six years as she was trafficked in the sex-trafficking trade, something that is an extremely difficult topic to tackle anytime but especially in the world we are currently living. I love how Shandi Boyes doesn’t shy away from the dark sides of this life and keeps things raw and gritty the whole time. I would say if you don’t like or enjoy dark romance maybe keep that in mind before picking this one up. I can’t wait to see what comes next from Boyes!
The fact that it’s dark and has a lot of triggers doesn’t bother me. I’m also not bothered by a more realistic approach to the mafia/mobster mentality even though it’s maybe not an ideal book boyfriend approach. Honestly, it was a lot of little things that added up into a big problem throughout this book that irked me, and I normally don’t let this stuff bother me. The writing itself was really confusing at times not providing enough background on certain things and then too much on insignificant parts. It makes me think maybe it would have been better if I didn’t read it as a stand-alone but it’s labeled as being able to be read either in the series or as a stand-alone. The story itself dragged on quite a bit as well that I feel like it could have been 100 pages shorter. I’m not sure why it bothered me so much but it seemed very unrealistic that the FMC would understand English perfectly but she couldn’t speak even a simple word of it? The fact that was not even explained until well into the story was also frustrating since there was many points in the story it would have helped some confusion if that was just explained way sooner. Overall the idea itself was fine and had potential but I was not a fan of the overall execution of it.
Trey: European Redemption (Russian Mob Chronicles Book 7) by Shandi Boyes was a great 5 star read. I love a good read and this story pulled me right in, the author pushes the boundaries on the topic and grittiness.
This is Trey and Kristina’s (Duchess) story. Trey works for Nikolai who we met in a previous book. Trey is very protective and when he meets Kristina he’s pulled right in by her. There was something about her eyes, something familiar. Kristina was forced into sex-trafficking the last six years and I would consider her a survivor. Trey also has some things from his past that have made him the man he is today.
Can these two put each other back together again?
Overall I really enjoyed this read. My emotions were all over the place, we get so much in one book. I really liked these two characters and the secondary characters added a great element to the story. I will warn that some things in this book may cause triggers for some. I look forward to reading more from this series and author. I love an author who isn’t afraid to give you dark, gritty and so much more. If you like a good series with no holds bar than 1-click and get started today.
Trey is the 7th book in the Russian Mob Chronicles by Shandi Boyes. Some of the books in this series can be read as a standalone and this is one of those. I had previously read some, but not all, of the books in this series and did not feel that I was missing any relevant information to allow me to understand and enjoy this book. I first became a fan of Shandi Boyes when I read the Enigma Series as I loved the gritty characters and storylines that she writes and this book is exactly that. The storyline is dark and gritty and the characters are equally hard and gritty. K has to be one of the gutsiest and determined heroines I’ve ever read. When you read just how much she has gone through in her life, you can’t help but be amazed by her grit and determination. I also adored Trey. He may be a ruthless killer but K brings out a whole different side of him no one has ever seen and he never knew he was capable of. This book is filled with so much danger and intrigue. You are pulled in from the very first page and this book just does not let you go. ‘Page turner’ does not do it justice. I did not want to put this book down, it was so good.
Remember when Nikolai destroyed his father sex trafficking ring? And found a lot of women in the compound? this book follows the story of Trey and Kristina (K). They’re both broken for different reasons. And seeing Trey take care of K, even when she didn’t spoke a word (she is tcheq)… seeing his understanding of her with only body language communication was amazing. He eating her food first, because she didn’t trust it wasn’t poisoned…. He fought so much for her! Protected her so much! This is not a light read! It’s dark, emotional heavy. A story that makes you uncomfortable and leaves you staring at a wall, at times. God! I love books like this! K was so fucking strong! Just go read the book!
Ps. My advice to you is to read the first three books on the Italian Cartel (Dimitri story) then Nikolai and Asher story (from the Russian Mob Chronicles), continue to Trey, and then go back to the Italian Cartel (Mafia ties and then Maddox…). And I say this because some characters and story overlap. But you can definitely read it as a standalone, although you may get thrown into things you don’t have a backstory of. Plus Dimitri and Nikolai story is amazing. So you don’t really lose anything from reading their books.
Trey: European Redemption is the seventh book in the Russian Mob Chronicles series and is the story of Trey and Kristina "K". This book is not for the faint of heart so be warned. It is dark, hard, twisted, emotionally gut wrenching, does have triggers and a whole lot more. But is is also a love story that is epic in the connection K and Trey have together and everything they go through. I am not going to lie and say I loved this book. Yep there were some parts of it that I did love and other parts I despised. It was a hard book to get through and for me I ended up having to skim some of it as it was a bit too much. But if you can get into the book and stay with it the end is worth it. Also, as Trey is part of Nikolai's Mafia family and if you have not already it would most likely be helpful to read the previous books in this series to put context to the world that Trey and K live in.
I received a copy of this book for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
While I really enjoyed the story at times I felt like they were talking about Something I couldn’t figure out (Maybe because this is book 7 and I haven’t read any of the others). Then as the story progressed I just let some of that stuff slide right by. That being said this is about two gritty characters who have been through hell and are not sure if they want to leave it behind since it offers comfort to them. I liked the two main characters equally. Each is strong and have come out the other side knowing their faults and yet becoming stronger. There are times that I really LOVED what Trey would say to K. Made my heart ache and fill with awe at the same time.
The secondary characters were wonderfully easy to like or hate respectively. Each had a place and they served it well. I want to give a shout out to Eight! He was probably my favorite.
Overall I loved the characters and the story. The story flowed well other than a few times and I could really feel what the characters were feeling. It’s a bit dark and I Ioved every second.
This book was a bit disappointing. I wanted to like it & I liked the characters, but the writing style was messy & difficult to follow. Also, I'd have to say it's not really a standalone. If you haven't read the other books you'll be grasping at holes in the book the entire time; & I do mean right up until the end. I've read a number of series that are a compilation of standalones out of order without experiencing the same issue. So reader beware..
As for the dark nature of the book, that usually doesn't bother me & this is not the most graphic book I've read by any stretch of the imagination. But the "ratio" for lack of a better term is off. There isn't a tasteful balance between the dark/romance/plot, which was a real disappointment. It felt almost repetitive at some points. All of that being said, I did like the characters themselves. The main characters were strong & resilient, the supporting characters were endearing. I wish this book was more enjoyable to read. Unfortunately it was not a smooth read & overall just kinda lacking.
If you're into Mafia Romances then this is not to be missed. However, this is not for the faint of heart. This is part of a series but can be read by itself. This story takes you into the depth of human deprivation where violence, drugs, and abuse are the norm. Human trafficking and sex-slavery are one of the world's current biggest pandemics, yet somehow the story and connection between the two main characters, Trey and Kristina, give us a strange kind of hope. They have both been through some terrible abuse. Trey started healing when rescued by Nikolai years ago, but the strength exhibited by Kristina is phenomenal. You can't help but get emotionally embroiled. There are unexpected twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. This is one of those rare books that has it all. There are also some quotes in this book that will take your breath away.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book via Booksprout. This story was, quite possibly, one of the darkest—if not THE darkest--stories I have ever read and at the same time, I couldn’t stop reading it. I think that this may have been my first Shandi Boyes book. She wrote sentences in this story, that I swear, will stay with me for a long time to come. I may never forget them. In such a dark story, there are points of unique wisdom, things I would have never thought of or considered. This is the story of Trey and K. Trey is the righthand man to Russian mobster Nicolai and K is a sex slave that he has close ties to in his past and new ties to in his present. The things that each of them had been through to get to the point of being functional in this story were tragic, and scary. However, the people they became for each other were utterly beautiful—even with a language barrier. I’m definitely looking forward to their sequel.
Trey: European Redemption (Russian Mob Chronicles Book 7) by Shandi Boyes
This is part of the Russian Mob Chronicles, but can be read as a stand alone. This is my first read by the author, but it will not be my last. Mrs. Boyes knows how to write a darn good book.
Trey, a Russian Mob member, soon learns that the past doesn't always stay where it should. He learns that his life is going to change, but not much. The quote I choose for Trey is: “What aren’t you telling me, Dok?”
Kristina, K or Duchess, as Trey calls her. She's held captive by someone who wants to draw Trey out. Little does she know Trey is going to change everything she's ever known. She is sucked away from her life, but is brought back. The quote I choose for K is: “Yes, I recognize him.”
This is a book I highly recommend. It's for anyone who loves a good story involving mobs and love. This will not be the last book I read by this author.
It’s been a while since I picked up a book by Ms Boyes so when I saw this one I thought I need my mob fix so I dived right in and wow what a book it was! Not that I expected anything less from one of my favourite authors but this was honestly a fantastic read – action from beginning to end and amazing characters that drag you along for the ride! I think I have to say this book might not be for everybody but I was completely sucked into Trey’s story. Apart from Trey – a love to hate character maybe, I have to say Kristina was one brilliant female lead! She had this strength and confidence about her that I absolutely loved especially considering what she had been through! Trey was a pretty complex character but I loved getting to know him more and I loved the two of them together! If you’re looking for a darker read then this book will be 100% for you! I loved every second of it and I can’t wait for more!!
The only word I can say on this is WOW! Trey: European Redemption (Russian Mob Chronicles Book 7) by Shandi Boyes was intense! Trey is book 7, so I do recommend reading the others first but you don’t have to. You can read this as a standalone novel. Trey is a part of the mafia world. So needless to say that he has demons and is quite broken in his own right. Kristina, who was a part of the sex trafficking world has demons of her own and is also a bit broken. Trey sees that in her and understands her kind of hurt. This book is very raw and dark. The sex scenes are quite explosive. It is a very in your face kind of book. Like I said before it is quite intense, which will have you turning pages continuously. For me, it was so very good! I have no problem recommending this book to someone who likes gritty and dangerous books. This book will suck you in and become intoxicating. I truly hope there are more to this series and can’t wait to read more!
