Detective Kaitlyn Carr #6

Girl Deceived: A gripping crime thriller and mystery novel

Rate this book
A letter throws Detective Kaitlyn Carr’s life into turmoil… Settling into a new routine, Kaitlyn believes that her troubles are behind her. But then she receives a letter from a retired FBI agent, which states that everything she knows about her father’s death is a lie. The FBI agent says that her father was murdered and promises to tell her what really happened, but only if she helps him first. To find out the truth, Kaitlyn must travel to a place with a near-constant cover of clouds and rain and investigate a series of cold cases that the FBI agent believes are connected to the same illusive serial killer. Here, the foliage is thick. The rains wash away evidence. It's the perfect place to bury bodies, or to leave them somewhere no one will find them. The FBI agent might be a conspiracy theorist and Kaitlyn isn’t sure if she believes any of it until she finds a young woman’s body and wonders if her murder is also linked to the serial killer. Deep in the pines and gloom of the Pacific Northwest, Kaitlyn hunts the serial killer, but what she does not yet know is that she might be the one who is being hunted….

So disappointing. I’ve loved the prior books in the series but this was neither nothing or something. Very boring, no real story and just left in the air at the end as if she published the book before it was done.

The 6th installment of Kate Gable’s Girl Missing Series follows Detective Kaitlyn Carr on a journey to finding out the truth about her fathers death.

This is the first book I have read by this author, which also makes it the first book in the series for me. It is a good starting point for anyone new to this series because you don’t need to read any of the previous books to pick it up right away, however I think it would spoil the previous installments fi you wanted to read them all.

There are no real twists in the story but it is an easy flowing, investigative mystery for anyone that enjoys playing detective.

I finished reading the book within two days, which is really saying something for myself. It is dialogue heavy which I liked and the chapters are short. Just be warned this book does have an unresolved ending, so you do need to continue with the series.

I recommend this book for anyone who likes investigative mysteries.

Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Series is inconsistent

I think I'm done with this series. The dismal editing and grammar already had me with one foot out the door, but this complete rewriting of history has me gone.

So not only did it take five books to find her sister in the most anticlimactic way ever (for real, it was like the author threw it in there because she was tired of talking about it), now we've got her dad the crooked cop? Instead of the drug-dealing bookie informant? And she hasn't thought about him for years, even though she just got a letter from him via his friend that explained his death? And she and Luke weren't engaged, but at the end of the last book they were getting married in May? It's too much.

And Kaitlyn is still kinda the worst.

What in the actual hell is going on here? I love a fast read so I had been tearing through the first 5 books in this series on Kindle unlimited. Cue the screeching brakes and tires though because, I just started the 6th book in the series and Ms. Gable is seriously trying to gaslight me into believing that I didn’t read what I know I read in first 5 books about the protagonist’s father! I seriously came to goodreads to double check that I hadn’t forgotten to taken my ADHD meds and was confusing this with another series. Thankfully, someone else mentioned this in the reviews as well so I know that I am fully medicated and laser focused on these continuity issues. I can forgive the few little mistakes here and there, like minor timeline inconsistencies throughout the series, but she changed the whole game in book 6 with no explanation. ***spoilers follow***Books 1-5 we find out Det. Carr’s dad had been a drug dealer that sold drugs to school kids and was a pretty big bookie in the region they lived in. In book 5, she finds out that her dad was also a police informant because he was basically forced to be one after he was arrested for a robbery. We also found out that it was rumored that his betting business was so big because he started ratting out his competitors so he could take their share of the market.
Then, in a rather anticlimactic moment, her dad’s former police handler gives her a letter from him to her family, that the handler evidently has been keeping for over a decade waiting for someone to “come asking questions.”
In the letter her dad says he is going to kill himself soon but doesn’t know how he is going to do it. He says he has early onset parkinson’s disease and is going to kill himself because he doesn’t want to go through, and doesn’t want to put them through, a long painful death from that degenerative type of disease. She talks to her mom and she confirms it and that seems to be that so, like the good readers we are that have followed her this far into the series, we all suspend belief to swallow the fact that her dad shot himself twice in the stomach as his preferred method of suicide…even though he had drugs readily available and wasn’t a naive moron so he knew a gut shot most likely wouldn’t kill him instantly and would be super painful, when he was trying to avoid a painful death to begin with but…I digress. We had come this far as readers so we went with it.
Then the author has the audacity to start book 6 with the protagonist talking about how her dad had been a crooked cop/drug dealer?! I am not saying that she suddenly finds out he was an undercover cop and not a drug dealer and is blown away by this information. No, I am saying that the author throws it in there like it is canon. Ma’am, excuse me, but is it possible that you, like myself in numerous occasions, didn’t take your medicine and got some character backstories mixed up. If so, that’s okay, it happens to the best of us but you need some better editors to catch the gaping plot holes that come with that. If not, and you just thought that this would be more interesting than your initial story in 1-5 and a great way to continue a series that you had already tied up but people seemed to like, then, shame on you! You took up hours of our lives following you through a mediocre mystery/thriller series by leaving us with the ridiculous cliffhanger of never actually finding her sister until the 5th, allegedly final, book. Knowing full well that the true mystery book nerds are going to have to read the next one, whether they thought the previous book was all that great or not, because we have to know what happened to the little sister. Being a mystery book ending tease is bad enough but to leave anyone paying an iota of attention to your previous books confused, at best, and super pissed, by changing a such a core part of the protagonist’s backstory in such a sloppy manner is criminal. Ms. Gable, editors, and arc readers of this book, with all due respect, DO BETTER! Up until this I was ready to put any criticisms aside and just enjoy a fast paced series for fun and distraction but I truly feel cheated that I spent my time on this series because the author either doesn’t know her own character’s backstory as well as a distracted mom trying to read while her kids are tearing the house apart or, cares so little for her audience that she just threw a sixth book together with blatant continuity problems to get a paycheck. I am not sure which option is worse but neither are good.

GONE TOO SOON is the sixth instalment in Kate Gable’s contemporary, adult DETECTIVE KAITLYN CARR mystery/suspense series focusing on LAPD Detective Kaitlyn Carr. GONE TOO SOON can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but for back story I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout concerning the Detective’s late father.

NOTE: If you have not read any of the previous instalments there may be spoilers in my review.

Told from first person perspective (Kaitlyn Carr) GONE TOO SOON follows several paths that may or may not be connected. Kaitlyn Carr’s father is a former police detective, a dirty cop, who is believed to have taken his own life but Kaitlyn never believed the stories, and a letter from one of her father’s former partners, retired FBI Agent Donald Clark, claims someone else may be responsible for the death of her father. As Kaitlyn goes in search of the truth, she must first look into a series of unsolved murders for the man holding hostage all of the answers to her father’s death, including the recent murder of a single mother Kaitlyn found on the trails near Olympia Washington. As Kaitlyn begins an investigation of her own, a teenage boy asks for help, when his father refuses to accept that anything is wrong.

Kaitlyn’s journey, along with her boyfriend, FBI Agent Luke Galvinson, takes our heroine from California, to Washington, to Oregon as she goes in search of answers to her father’s death but finds herself racing to a three unsolved murders that Agent Clark refuses to let go. As Kaitlyn begins to unravel the clues, she will quickly discover that Agent Clark wasn’t too far off the mark.

GONE TOO SOON is a story of madness and murder, power and control, desperation and obsession, acceptance and revelations. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the characters are desperate, determined an dynamic. GONE TOO SOON ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned

And the plot thickens… in the continuation of Book 6 for Detective Kaitlyn Carr’s mystery. Wow, this series just keep getting better. Kate Gable delivered an amazing suspenseful thriller, and she has an ability to make you feel as if you were right there watching the events unfold! This page-turner is fast moving with lots of twists and turns that had me captivated from the first page.

Now that Kaitlyn’s sister was found, she still has other cases to solve. Detective Kaitlyn Carr receives a letter from an ex-FBI agent who states that her father did not commit suicide—he was murdered! And he will show her the proof but with a caveat that she will have to visit him and help him first. Kaitlyn is not sure if she believes the conspiracy theories about his version of what happened, but she can’t rule it out because there are some aspects of what he is telling her that might be true. But, the question of did her father actually commit suicide? Or was it murder? Kaitlyn has seen her fair share of shocking and gruesome cases, and she has trained herself to expect the unexpected.

While on vacation with her boyfriend, Luke Galvinson, FBI agent, Kaitlyn discovers a young murdered woman’s body on a hiking trail deep in the forest. Who could have murdered this woman? Kaitlyn comes to realize the truth might be closer than she’d ever want to believe. Are there any connections between the young woman’s murder, her father, and others? What is the killer’s true motive? And most importantly who will be next? Kate Gable creates a world, plot, and characters that linger long after the last sentence of the last page. I HIGHLY recommend you get this book! I can’t wait to read the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Detective Kaitlyn Carr receives a letter from a retired FBI agent that tells her that her father did not die by suicide as was reported. He has proof of this but will not reveal his evidence unless Kate helps him solve some murders that he is certain were done by a serial killer.

Meanwhile, a woman, Cora, disappears and her son, Anthony, is frantic. He knows it is extremely out of character for her disappear without calling him. Anthony calls the police and his father (Cora's ex) but neither of them are the least bit concerned. Her ex-husband isn't at all upset about it and tells anyone who listens that Cora was in the "sex trade".

However, things are about to take a major turn while Kaitlyn and her boyfriend, Luke decide to spend a day enjoying the great outdoors.

Books by Kate Gable are always amazing. You are drawn in immediately and it is hard to put the book down untl you reach the end. The story is a roller coaster of twists, turns, emotions and suspense.

Please be aware, this book has absolutely no closure on either case. You are no closer to learning about the serial killer or to solving Cora's case when the book ends than you were during the police investigation. Usually this series runs two crimes simultaneously but one gets solved by the end of the book with the other leading into the next book. Everything is still hanging at the end of this book.

Gone Too Soon is book # 6 in Detective Kaitlyn Series but can be read as a separate book.

I received an Arc of this book from the Author and just from the synopsis, it sounded like my kind of read. Serial killing, FBI, past murder, crime.. so I hop in right away.

From inception, it was a fast paced, thrilling storyline sucking you in right away. The writing style was confusing at some places. The character of Kaitlyn was perfect: traumatised but yet strong and intelligent.

It deals with two cases: one from past and one from present simultaneously, it was a bit confounding but quite intriguing. Grief is actually a major theme of this book so beware of trigger warnings (mentioned on next slide). The story flows seamlessly, making it a binge read.

This book ends up on a big cliff hanger as none of the case is solved which was a bit annoying. But it is also promising for the next book in series. I would definitely want the Author to publish the next book in series as soon as possible.

My Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐

This is book six in A Detective Kaitlyn Carr Mystery Series and I just dont know where to start to review it.

It has you on the edge of your seat from the start till the end, always wanting more, so many twists and turns, it's a brilliant mystery/suspense novel.

When Kaitlyn received a letter from a retired FBI agent who knew her father and had information that her father didn’t kill himself but was murdered Kaitlyn needed to find answers so she went to speak to him and investigate whether he was telling the truth, but he wanted something in return, he wanted her to investigate cold cases of murders, he said he knew who the killer was, had someone that had told him but not enough proof to get the police to arrest the man.

meanwhile, while on a hike she finds a woman's body, is it connected? She tells the woman's son that she will help find her killer, is she putting herself in danger, I can't wait for the next book to find out what happens next.

Kate Gable 's Girl Missing series has brought us into Kaitlyn Carr's life. This is book 6 of the series but you can comfortably read it as a standalone novel ( but if you start at book one you get to see the growth of the character more).

Kaitlyn isn't a totally troubled character but neither is she perfect. She has a past she would like to know more about. This makes her human and she reacts to things much like I'd expect some I know to. Unfortunately, this can lead her into situations she isn't expecting.

This is a perfect way to spend a couple hours , relaxing and getting caught up in a story. These are two for one mysteries, the one that takes place within the book and Kaitlyn's personal mystery. I enjoy reading Kate Gables book and look forward to the next one. The Girl Missing book set is a great way to get caught up. Enjoy.

****⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️***

I have enjoyed this whole series and it was nice to see Kaitlyn out of her normal hot and dry environment to hopefully gain a new perspective on her dad’s past by heading to Washington. But I don’t know what to think about the situation she has been led into by Donald to put her there.

The storyline is a bit confusing for me when it came to Donald and Viktor and the information Donald is trying to obtain and confirm. I understand that Donald is using his tie with Kaitlyn’s father to attempt to manipulate her assistance as a last ditch effort but it doesn’t feel as genuine as the rest of the storylines have been. Maybe the next book will make this a little clearer for me.

I am looking forward to the next book in this series to find out the mystery surrounding David Trincia and to see if she can hopefully help Anthony find answers and move on with his life, sadly without his mom. I also hope Kaitlyn and Luke finally come to a conclusion on the beginning and continuation of their relationship. I think everyone would like to see Kaitlyn and Violet get to a good relationship at this point in their lives and resolve the issues they both have with their mom.

A Little Disappointing

I didn't like this story as much as the previous two. I found the story lines to be a little frustrating. When are we going to find out what happened to Kaitlyn's dad, anyway? And the resolution of the mystery of the death of the likeable young man's mother felt abrupt - and her loss was painful.

I also felt the editing was not as good. More run-on sentences and other punctuation errors, as well as missing or misused words, and awkward sentence structures. I think there's also an inconsistency between this and the previous books in the series; here, he was a cop, whereas in the earlier books he was not.

But I'm still hooked on the series, hoping to find out what happened to Kaitlyn's dad, and why. And hoping for a happy ending for Kaitlyn and Luke.

Book 6 is another edge of your seat thriller that keeps you turning pages. Having found her missing sister, Kaitlyn can now focus on other cases when she receives a strange letter from a former FBI agent. The agent, Donald, says he has proof Kaitlyn's father did not commit suicide, he was murdered. But he won't give her what she needs to know unless she does something for him first. Is this blackmail? Does he really have something concrete for her? The add to that, when she and Luke go hiking, they come across a dead body. Could this be connected somehow to all of this? This book has cliff hangers and it makes you want the next in the series so you can see what happens. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Having enjoyed the other books in this series I was anxious to begin reading. It is a bit of a disappointment. Editing and proofreading must have been limited. I found and reported many errors.

The plot sounds intriguing but lacks a bit of continuity. Kaitlyn remains an enigma as errors hear relationship with the endearing, patient Luke.

Answering a letter enticing the to the northwest with a tidbit about her fathers death Kaitlyn is her vacation to explore the possibility the retired FBI agent has needed information. Luke joins her and while enjoying a hike Kaitlyn stumbled in a dead woman tired in a tree. Her son wants Kaitlyn to investigate her murder.

The ending is a huge letdown but is still recommend this series.

Kaitlyn always gets involved in some case that she cannot walk away from. She found her sister and that is weighing a lot on her mind. She feels as though her sister is retreating from life, not that she blames her, and it may have an adverse affect on her life. When she learns that her father may have not committed suicide, she takes a trip to Oregon to find out what this retired FBI agent has to say. As I read along, I could feel her frustration at many things. The information about her father, the idea there are missing and murdered people needing to have their cases solved and how to help the son of a murdered victim. There is so much on her plate and she knows it cannot be solved in one trip. So now to wait for the next book; Gone Forever to get some answers.

A letter from Special Agent of the FBI Donald Clark to Kaitlyn changes what she knew of her father. She decides to go and visit him and he wants her to work on a cold case for him. It’s a strange case where a person in prison says that his uncle had told him of the three bodies and their location when he had been drunk. These were the very same people mentioned in Donald’s cold case. A new case comes up with Cora Leonelle a hairdresser has been killed. Her son Anthony approaches Kaitlyn to find her . This book is fast-pace and full of action . A chilling read. I am on the ARC team and leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.

Once I start reading a book by Kate Gable, I know I won’t want to put it down. Detective Kaitlyn Carr receives a letter, that says they know the secrets to her father’s death. So she takes vacation time and heads for the Pacific Northwest. While she is there, a young boy Anthony. He wants her to find out what happened to his mom Cora. Detective Kaitlyn Carr finds her body off a trail in the forest. Once again the story has twists and turns. They capture your interest, and you want to read until you figure everything out. For an awesome book, read these.

Kaitlyn Carr is contacted by an exFBI agent who says he has information that proves her Dad was murdered that he didn’t commit suicide as people think. The only thing is he wants help with a case he’d worked on before he will tell her about her Dad. Taking some annual leave Kaitlyn goes to hear Donald out. But of course things can’t be simple for Kaitlyn and out on a hike she comes across a dead body. With so much now going on will Kaitlyn ever get to the bottom of things. This is a real page turner with twists and turns galore. You are left waiting for the next book.

Ridiculous??

Having read the first 5 books on my vacation I jumped into this one and couldn’t believe how ridiculously the author has blatantly changed the details about her father and his life!!! WTF !!! Is a different person writing the book now or like other reviewers here has no one read the previous 5 books!! Completely spoiled it for me and I won’t read the rest, while these books are not badly written, they were easy reading a little bit predictable but this was utter rubbish!!

Why are there three more books in this series?! Oh, right because the author decided to remember now that she has the dad death wasn't suicide plot line 🙄.

Once again, horrible detective work and Kaitlin is mad with her mom and sister because they are keeping their distance. Just because she risks everything to find her sister, she wants everyone to treat her like she is a savior or something like that?

Luke needs to just resign if he keeps complaining about the FBI job. Kaitlin should also quit her job and give it a try writing books but if it's something like the author... yeah, she might need to pick another career.

There are a lot of editorial errors, the author keeps confusing characters and there's holes in the storyline.

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.

Can't wait to read more of these.

Kaitlyn Carr thinks things will settle down after solving her sister's case and then she gets a letter that she can't ignore. The characters were well fleshed out and believable. The plot is engaging and kept my interest. The suspense builds up to the jaw-dropping cliffhanger. I am anxiously awaiting the next book. I would recommend any of this author's books and this one doesn't disappoint. I received an advance copy of this book via the author and this is my honest review.

Too many conflicts

I read the first 5 books, because they were quick reads and i could get into the flow. But to introduce the father as a former cop, when the past 5 books described him as a drug dealer and an informant... Well I couldn't get past it to read being chapter 4. I mean, part of reading series is the characters, and suddenly he's a completely different person. Sorry, as much as i wanted to see how she and Luke were, I just couldn't continue the story.

The lack of continuity in these books is astounding. I’ve found little issues in each book (along with obvious editing issues) but the big one in this book is absurd. Suddenly after 5 books where she has talked quite a bit about her father and his life, she flips the script and now he was a police officer? Ridiculous. Not sure if I can even finish this book, let alone read more of the series.

I was a bit disappointed with this book. Books 1-5 had me hooked and it only took me 2 days tops to read each one. This one took me about a week to get through.
It almost comparable a good tv show binge, the first 2 seasons are spectacular, but then the 3rd season falls flat, making you not want to finish the series. There were several plot holes, and it was boring to say the least. Here's hoping books 7 & 8 don't disappoint.

This book really missed the mark compared to others in this series. Spelling errors (even the main characters name?!), several punctuation errors, etc. I found the book extremely hard to follow until the middle of the book, but even then, too many swaps. The book ended on a whim, almost like it was incomplete. Not even close to as good as the others.

See Kimberly Harrison review of June 6th. What was this an idea or a book? It had a bunch of storylines and none were completed- this I always feel is a ploy to get the next book.

Also, Kaitlyn just finished with her Sister Violet's mystery and now there is one about her father. She seems to have a lot of baggage.

Enthralling!

Thousandth book in the Detective Kaitlyn Carr Mystery series, was another excellent read.

I find it interesting how Kate Gable writes, providing factual information, alongside a fictional storyline.

The cases are always fascinating, and keeps you wanting to continue reading. Now for book seven...
