Two opposites. One chance rescue that leaves no chance at stopping our chemistry.

Coming from a family of all boys who play hockey, all I ever wanted was to be seen by my dad. When he offers me a chance to intern at his startup sports magazine, I jump at the chance to impress him. It’s not until after I’m given my first assignment that I find out the catch.
I must write a hit piece on his rival team.
It shouldn’t be too bad. It’s not like I’m friends with these guys.
Enter Noah Miller
The Team Flirt.
Actually, I should first introduce his jaw line, and then you’ll understand my flustration. No, that’s not a typo. I’m 100% flustered when he’s nearby.
Never fear because my super-shield instincts tell me to resist him at all costs. It won’t be too long, and I’ll have this hit piece done and dusted.
He’s handsome.
Again, I point to the jawline.
More infuriatingly, he has the super talent of rescuing me. It would be swoony if I wasn’t tasked with destroying his team.
No one—especially Noah—is worth ruining my chance of finally making my dad proud of me.
Not even when Noah saves me one more time.
Or another time after that.
Why is he so good at that?
It’s absolutely maddening!
Shot Through the Heart is a closed-door-yet-swoony-eyes romance that delivers an all-things-hockey-and-wholesome romcom.

As the only girl of five siblings, Paisley's ready to do just about anything to get her father’s attention and approval. When she's offered an internship at his sports magazine she's thrilled. Until she gets her first assignment: write a hit piece about her father’s rival hockey team. Paisley doesn't feel quite comfortable with her mission, but she really wants to make her father proud of her, and it's not like she knows anyone on the team. Until she meets Noah.

I really like Paisley and Noah! They're nothing alike, but get along just fine, and their interactions are mostly spot on. Of course I like the hockey aspect, but also the description of Noah's anxiety and panic attacks.

Something I quickly got tired of was how often Paisley thought about how handsome Noah was. You can mention it a couple of times, but that's enough for me. I also had some difficulties understanding the rivalry between Paisley's father and Noah's stepdad. I would have liked it to be explained more, especially as it has a big impact on the story. And I wish I had skipped the bonus epilouge!

However, if you're in the mood for a hockey romance that's a fast and easy read I can certainly recommend "Shot Through the Heart"! (But do yourself a favor and skip the bonus epilouge!)

* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *

It’s so fun to see how all these different authors can write the same sport but create such a variety of teams and players alike!  JP Sterling has created the Glacier Ice hockey team out of Mapleton, Vermont and this is the second book in that series!

Noah is a winger for the team, and he has a little secret that he isn’t proud to possess, his stepdad owns the team!  The secret doesn’t affect his gameplay, but it makes it difficult at home!  Throughout this story, we see Noah step up and be a hero multiple times for an interning photographer, who has been allowed to set up a small office in the arena, and her name is Paisley!

When we first meet Paisley, she is at a gala event where she has been taking pictures for her internship at a major sporting magazine, only to be thrown amid a mosh pit!  This girl’s internal monologue has been one of my favorites to read!  She’s as blunt on the inside as she is on the outside!  When she falls to the ground, Noah helps to pick her up and guide her to safety!  While appreciative of the gesture, she’s less than thrilled of the identity of this hero as she has been tasked to write a scathing article on him and the team!  As the story continues to unfold, Noah keeps coming to her rescue and she begins to soften toward him!  The chemistry is there but letting herself get distracted is the last thing she wants to do.

This book has it all, awkwardness between protags, good food, hidden rivalry, and dog named Puck!  I love that this story doesn’t immediately pick up where the previous story left off, but it does continue the hockey season!  This book while a part of a series could easily serve as a standalone!  JP incorporated a subtle nod to another AHL hockey team that has been created by another author!  These are the type of Easter eggs I love to read!  Little nuggets to make you want to keep reading the current series but inspire you to read the collaboration partners’ works too!  Yay!  Can’t wait to see what happens next with this newer AHL team and its players!

This was such a fun and swoony closed-door hockey romance! I loved the opposites-attract dynamic between Paisley, the ambitious intern determined to prove herself, and Noah, the charming team flirt with a heart of gold. Their chemistry was instant but still had that slow-burn pull that kept me smiling the whole way through.
The mix of family pressure, sports rivalry, and laugh-out-loud banter made this such an enjoyable read. I especially liked how Paisley’s drive to make her dad proud balanced perfectly with Noah’s genuine sweetness and quiet support.
I also really appreciated the anxiety representation in this story - it was handled with care and authenticity, showing that vulnerability and strength can absolutely coexist. Those moments gave the book extra heart and depth.
My only complaint? I wanted it to be longer! I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Noah and Paisley. A perfect pick for anyone who loves hockey romances that are flirty, wholesome, and packed with heart.

I cannot rave about this book enough! I loved every bit of it from start to finish and I couldn’t put it down! There were so many hilarious and laugh-out-loud moments throughout the book; I couldn’t stop laughing! Paisley and Nate are adorable together. They each have their own set of issues, Paisley’s being her insecurities revolving around thinking she’s never good enough for her dad and feeling invisible to everyone around her, and Nate’s being his crippling anxiety. They are able to lean on each other for support and both became stronger and were able to stand up to the people who were pulling them down. I also love this hockey team and I can’t wait to continue reading about the other players and their own searches for love.

This book is part of the Sweet RomCom Hockey series, and the main characters are Paisley Anton who has always tried her hardest to be noticed by her father, who is also the owner of a successful team the Palmer City Voltage, and Noah Miller, hockey player for the Granite Ice AHL team in Mapleton. Paisley works for her father’s magazine Sports Era in New York and has managed to get herself an internship with Granite Ice, to photograph and write a piece about them, except her father wants her to write a hit piece on the team because its owner is his archrival! The story starts as she gets crushed in a mosh pit during what was supposed to be a charity sports gala, and her petite frame ends up as a hinderance, as she gets knocked over and trampled on, losing her glasses and camera. She is rescued by Noah and recognises his eyes immediately. She has been photographing him and the other players for the piece her father ordered. She tries to ask about the camera afterwards, but nobody handed it in to any of the staff, losing her weeks of images, showing the team in a bad light. The owner of the hockey team is Bill Baker, and he is married to Noah’s mother, not that he wants his teammates and others to know. The team aren’t exactly doing well, never seeming able to actually win a game and Noah often wonders if he made a mistake not accepting an offer to play in the NHL. He earns a pittance playing for Granite Ice and still lives at home, but at least he can manage his anxiety with is meds, if the dog didn’t keep hiding them!

Paisley’s deadline for her article is in two weeks and now she will have to start all over again, using her phone to take pictures. Driving back to her Airbnb after a game, she runs out of gas and gets rescued yet again by the charismatic Noah and has no choice but to accept his help since even her phone is dead. When her camera turns up on her desk in a small room at the hockey arena, she thinks all is well, but the camera is damaged beyond use and the memory card is missing. She hadn’t backed them up onto her computer, in case anyone gained access to it, but hadn’t gotten around to putting them in the cloud either, which is all her fault. When Noah offers to help her get access to lots of the players and other staff, she needs all the help she can get, only it will cost her a favour in return! So begins a back and forth between them, with Noah inviting her out for food, ending up at not one place, but three, after they decide on their favourites and go all in. Getting home later than usual for practice raises a question form his mother, that soon has Bill meddling with, especially when he has to admit he was with Paisley at one point. Bill is still trying to fix him up with women from families he sees a benefit connecting with, never mind if Noah is interested in them. An upcoming charity banquet has him ignoring Noah’s wishes and inviting a woman for him to sit with.

It seems that every time Paisley needs saving from some awkward situation, Noah is right there. He offers her a seat on the team bus, so she can overcome the high school fears of walking to the back of the bus and no one letting her sit next to them. The more she gets to know him, the less she can hate him for his looks and talent. The main subject for her hit piece, center Axl and his celebrity girlfriend Sophie, invite Paisley and Noah to come on their couple’s ski weekend, after another couple cancelled on them. Never mind it will be Valentine’s Day! Noah clearly didn’t hear the couple’s bit of the conversation, just concentrated on the free skiing weekend part and is raring to go. When Bill overhears his plans, he questions what Noah knows about Paisley, especially since he doesn’t even know her last name, saying there is something off about her. Paisley ends up needing yet another rescue as they hit the slopes and her long remembered skills on the snow don’t quite materialise in time to stop her having a huge fall. A funny reaction to her pain meds makes her tell Noah a little bit too much of what she really thinks about him, in embarrassing detail! The truth according to Bill comes out about his rivalry with Paisley’s dad Blake Anton, and she has to hide her reactions, but comes out with her link with Blake later that evening. After some initial shock, Noah refuse to allow it to interfere with what they clearly have between them, but Bill has more secrets up his sleeve that will allow distrust to push them apart!

A nice clean romance with plenty of back and forth between the characters, as Paisley changes her mind about her father’s orders and Noah soon realises just what Bill knew all along and how he has played him. It seems Bill’s bitter rivalry is more important to him than young love involving his stepson and his rival’s daughter. Noah reacted badly when his anxiety couldn’t cope with all the secrets being revealed but at least gets his chance to tell Bill a few home truths. Paisley finally confronts her father and comes back to see if Noah will still give her a chance. A lovely Hea end, with a twist added by Bill that throws all Noah’s recent plans into chaos, leaving e desperate to read the next book in the series. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Quick Summary: A hockey romance short

My Review: Shot Through the Heart by J.P. Sterling is a standalone novella associated with the Sweet Hockey Romcom Novella Series. It is labeled as "a closed-door-yet-swoony-eyes romance that delivers an all-things-hockey-and-wholesome romcom." The audiobook was released on 8/4/25.

About the Book: "...all I ever wanted was to be seen by my dad. When he offers me an opportunity to intern at his startup sports magazine, I jump at the chance to impress him. It’s not until after I’m given my first assignment that I find out the catch.

I must write a hit piece on his rival team."

In My Own Words: A hockey player and a news intern clash and click, despite being on opposing sides of an old family feud.

About the Characters:

Paisley - > Bright, driven, underdog, easy to like, good heart, learning how to stand up for herself and find her voice

Noah - > Nice, considerate, meets no stranger, kindhearted, helpful, learning how to master his anxiety and manage his life independent of his family

The leads were young and hungry. I liked that they were both in the process of questioning themselves about what would come next, career wise and relationship wise. I appreciated that they came from challenging home life situations.

The stepdad and dad were both cringe, in my opinion. They lacked honor and integrity. I did not care for either.

About the Conflict: The conflict in this novella was very light. It initially started in an opposites/forced proximity with a hater mode, then it progressed to a secrets and hidden identity mode. In the end, an internal struggle with each individual led to an unwanted disconnection.

About the Audiobook: This novella was narrated by Amanda Friday and Andy Harrington. Their rhythm and tones were a good fit for the story. They made the story come across as intended for a NA.

My Final Say: This fast-paced read was short and sweet. It was not heavy or bogged down with details. There was enough to the story to keep me wanting to listen to more.

Other: Readers who enjoy hockey romances, opposites attract tropes, and knight in shining armor scenarios will like this short.

Back in August, I read my first read by this author and really enjoyed it - The Pucker-Up Pact.

When I spotted this new release, I jumped at the chance to read this too - hoping that it came from the same series.

This is indeed the second book in this series of similar short novella reads all based in the world of AHL ice hockey and it was great to be back with the boys at Granite Ice.

Paisley has been tasked a mission by her boss (and father) to write a hit piece for the magazine where she works.

She's desperate to make her dad proud - but when she gets to know the players better - especially Noah - she's a little more than reluctant to bring down a team for a petty feud.

I liked the connection between Paisley's dad and the coach at Granite - who have had a feud going on for years.

But the way they were using their children to get at each other was really mean!

Obviously Paisley and Noah grow closer in a series of events that draw them together and it was great to see each of them develop through the course of the book.

I liked that they both had their own issues and insecurities (rather than just one of them) and that (once they realised), they didn't let their parents run their lives.

This was another super quick read and it packed in so much storyline - however, I really would have liked to see a bit more of how Paisley reacted to Noah's anxiety. It was touched upon, but there was just not enough exploration of this for me.

I loved seeing Axl and Sophie from the previous book - a nice little insight into their future (some spoilers from book 1).

I also loved the extra epilogue which pulled in the next focus for book 3 (I think!) and this certainly threw a curve ball ending for Noah and Paisley.

I think we'll be seeing a bit more of them all in the next book too!

Another great read which I devoured over the day again.

I hope it's not going to be too long a wait for the next book as I'm already intrigued and can't wait to see what happens next.

Shot Through the Heart by JP Sterling
🎧 Audiobook ARC | ⭐️⭐️⭐️(3.5stars) | 🌶️ 0 Spice
Hockey Romance • Light Suspense • Dual POV

Shot Through the Heart is a quick, novella hockey romance with a dash of family drama, a touch of suspense, and a whole lot of forbidden-vibe tension. I received the audiobook ARC from NetGalley and went in pretty open-minded—this one ended up being a fun, fast binge.

The story follows Paisley, who’s been sent to dig up dirt on her father’s rival hockey team for a smear article in the magazine he owns. What she doesn’t expect is to fall for Noah, one of the team’s star players… who also happens to be the stepson of her dad’s rival. Yes, the drama was dramming. 😂

Paisley’s strained relationship with her father, her low self-esteem, and her lack of real friendships all play heavily into how she approaches the world—and her budding relationship with Noah. What I really liked was how Noah’s persistence, kindness, and openness slowly chipped away at her walls. His teammates and friends are surprisingly wholesome too, giving her a sense of belonging she didn’t know she was missing.

This one is filled with micro-tropes:
✨ Enemies to Lovers (light)
✨ Forced Proximity (shared bus seat, Valentine’s getaway)
✨ Forbidden Romance vibes
✨ Third-Act Breakup + Sweet Reunion

The plot moves quickly—and while it’s not deeply developed, it is entertaining. There’s zero spice, so it leans more sweet than steamy. The dual POV narration was a big win for me; both narrators fit their characters well and added emotion the text itself sometimes lacked.

The ending gives us a mini cliffhanger: in the bonus epilogue, Noah gets traded by his stepdad to Paisley’s dad’s team… so clearly this story isn’t over.

Overall, it’s a cute, super fast listen that’s fun in the moment but not something I’d necessarily reread. Light, easy, and very surface-level—but enjoyable all the same.

In Shot Through the Heart by J.P. Sterling, Paisley goes undercover as a photographer to an upcoming hockey team in order to win the appraisal of her father. She wants to write a horrible piece with ditto pictures, but when she meets ice hockey player Noah, who has rescued her several times, and spent more time with the team, she changes her mind.

This book by J.P. Sterling is once again a great humorous book. I love her sense of humour. As we have a dual POV, it is a great way to know Paisley and Noah. Both are great characters, but Paisley I just love. The way she thinks and feels come across so very well! She just wants her father to notice her. And Noah is just wonderful: the way he comes to her rescue are great. Paisley wants to hate him and his team, but as they spent more time together, she softens toward him. There is a great chemistry between them and their growing relationship is so heartwarming and cute. It was also really nice that two characters in the first standalone book in this series, Sophie and Axl, made an appearance as well, because that book, The Pucker-Up Pact, is one of the best hockey romances I have read so far.

The writing style is flowing, and there are several hilarious situations, which made me smile a lot. I had a really hard time putting the book down.

Shot Through the Heart is a lovely hockey romance story, with two very likable characters who you root for all along, with a flowing writing style, humour, tension and with some twists, a story I enjoyed reading a lot.
If you want to read a lovely clean hockey romance story, this is it.

J.P. Sterling is continuing successfully in her second hockey romance era! If you like enemies to lovers, opposites attract, clean romance, hockey, and a little mystery then this is the book for you!!

Paisley is a truly gifted photographer and journalist even if she’s not widely known for it. Despite that she has struggled as the only girl in a family of successful father & brothers in the realm of hockey to be seen and acknowledged by her dad, owner of Palmer City Voltage hockey team. You can tell she really yearned to have that sense of proudness from him. That lead her to take on an assignment with her father’s startup newspaper to write a piece about their arch-rival hockey team. It’s on that “assignment “ she meets Granite Ice hockey player, Noah Miller.

Paisley and Noah are adorable as they get to know one another and I love them as a couple. The skiing fiasco was bittersweet as it really drew them together as a potential couple. I absolutely LOVED Paisley. She is someone I would truly want as a friend. No one is perfect, and her journey to self acceptance, confidence and affirmation in herself was one I was proud to see especially in doing the right things even if she would face backlash or negative reactions.

I truly enjoyed this rom com. The story at the end felt a little rushed but I still would recommend the book. And with her bonus epilogue, I can’t wait for her next book in this series! I received an advanced copy of this book and all my thoughts and opinions are my own.

JP's hockey romcom series might just be my new favorite pasttime. 😍

"Shot Through the Heart" is a hidden identity story where Paisley is hired by her father's sports magazine to write a hit piece on his rival's hockey team. What she didn't count on was falling in love with one of the players.

There is a fabulous tension in this story, waiting for everything to come out. It's handled really well by the author, and I appreciated having to tussle with the secrecy and the harm it can do. Some of it works out really well for those who chose to be honest, but for some, deceit and passive aggressive behavior is in their character, so their revelations weren't as happy.

The barriers between Paisley and her hockey hunk, Noah, felt real. They both have daddy issues, and Noah struggles with anxiety. I do wish that we could have seen Paisley help Noah with this since we got to see him help her in a rather desperate time (or ten). It doesn't detract from the story, but just expresses my desire that it hadn't ended. All the sweet and swoony moments between them didn't leave anything wanting!

I loved seeing Axl & Sophie's story continue, and I can't wait to read Jackson's story up next. Another solid story for a reader who may always be in her #HockeyRomanceEra. ❤️

I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.

Second book with the Glacier Ice team! We've got Noah, who's the winger and is known to be the team flirt. And Paisley who is interning for a sports magazine.
These two were massive opposites and both came from what I would call 'toxic' fathers. Noah is harboring a secret that his stepdad owns his hockey team. And he is ultimately the one who has set in motion the 'player' status for Noah, setting him up with different girls to make connections. And Paisley's dad owns the sports magazine that she's working at and trying to infiltrate the Glacier Ice so she can show her dad she means business and take them down. Show some sort of negative side of the team.
Come to find out Noah's stepdad and Paisley's dad are rivals/hate each other. That's what ultimately sets in motion for these two. I felt like it was their driving forces at times and that they were both bred of misguided anger.
But as you go thru the story, you get to watch Noah show up time and again and be a hero for Pasiley and she gets to see the true him and not what she was made to believe. I loved how even tho Noah is on the same team as Axl, this story doesn't pick up right where Axl and Sophie's story left off. It very much shows Noah trying to work as his own to make it in this team and this season.
Thank you J.P. Sterling for continuing on with this team and for the other easter eggs you've dropped about other teams! Thanks for bringing back the rogue circus monkeys and for letting me continue to read these early!

I listened to the audiobook version of this story and enjoyed the dual narrators. The story is a clean and wholesome romance between Paisley and Noah. It isn’t easy quick story.
Paisley is trying to prove to her father that she can be successful. Unfortunately, everything that can go wrong does go wrong for her in the beginning. Noah is playing for his stepfather‘s hockey team and ironically, is always in the same place at the same time that Paisley needs to be rescued. The other niche in the story is both of the fathers despise each other.
I thought the story was a little bit slow, but that could be because the app I listen to could not be sped up and I usually listen to books at a bit faster speed. I also thought the main characters were old enough to not need to prove things to their parents let alone still live at home. That being said, getting to know the characters and watching their relationship grow was sweet and they are both charming. As with any good read, there is drama, misunderstandings, rescues and sweet kisses. I thought the storyline was interesting, but I felt like there were too many things left up in the air. Nothing was ever explained why the father’s disagreed with each other and although we found out who had the pictures it was never brought to light the consequences. Since there were too many unanswered questions I gave it 3.5 stars.

Paisley only wants her father to be proud of her. She cannot compete with the level of camaraderie her father has with all of her brothers. When she gets the opportunity to take photos of her father's greatest enemy's team, she thinks this may be her shot. After all, this bunch of players have a bad reputation, so it will not be hard to get the bad shots of them. What she finds is that sometimes you have to look a little further, instead of assuming. Rivalries run deep and some part hurts are still ever present.

When Noah Miller saves her from being trampled, he becomes her hero, but she still has reservations. He is known as the team flirt, or is it all for show?

Both Paisley and Noah had some family issues that needed to be resolved. I loved both of them. J. P. Sterling made their characters so real with all the bumps and bruises to go with it. It was swoony and funny as well. A ski trip will be one trip neither one of them will soon forget. I laughed and felt a little sorry for both of them at different points in the story.

If you want to get lost in a book with two main characters that are very likable, you have found the perfect book.

Thank you to Booksprout and the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This story is about Paisley who strives for her father's attention, being the only girl in an all-boys hockey family. She lands an internship writing for her dad’s sports magazine — but her first assignment is to write a hit piece on her dad’s rival hockey team. Enter the rival team’s charming “team flirt,” who rescues her from a mosh pit. Among many other times, fate just keeps throwing them together. This was a fun “hate-to-love / friends-to‐more” trope: The forced proximity of reporter meets hockey player – with professional pressure, family expectations, and underlying attraction – gives the story a nice tension. I wanted a little more out of Paisley and Noah's and Paisley's relationship. But over all o cute story. Sports-setting appeal: Since the heroine grows up in a hockey family, and the hero is a player, the backdrop feels authentic and adds a playful energy (skates, ice, “rescue” moments). That’s especially fun if you're into sports romance.
Wholesome, closed-door romance: For readers who prefer romance without explicit scenes, this delivers sweet “will-they/won’t-they” banter and moments of chemistry without heavy steam.
I enjoyed the narrators of this story.

I absolutely LOVED The Pucker-Up Pact so when I got the chance to read this book I was so excited to dive back into this series. I love J.P. Sterling's writing and knew this was going to be another must read and let me tell you she did not disappoint. I had such a great time getting to know these new characters and getting to spend some time with Axl and Sophie from the last book. Noah is a hockey player for the Granite Ice Hockey team and Paisley is a photographer for a magazine. One night they meet at a party after she fall is almost trampled on and Noah comes to her rescue. It was such a sweet moment. I loved how their story comes together. There will be some twists and turns in their story but I had such a great time getting to know them. I found myself smiling so much through out this book. You will swoon and laugh as well. The story and the characters are well written. This is a quick read that will keep you entertained from beginning until the end. I LOVE this book and series and I can't wait to see whats next! I would HIGHLY recommend this book and anything J.P. Sterling writes.

Thank you J.P. Sterling for allowing me to read this ARC in advance for my honest opinion.

This story is part of the Sweet Hockey Romcom Novella series but can easily be read as a stand alone even if you haven’t read anything else in the series. I enjoyed listening to the duet narration in this audio book. It was very nicely performed.

Noah and Paisley were young adult characters who were just starting out in their careers. I appreciated that they didn’t have everything all figured out yet but were both determined and worked hard at what they did.

I felt for Paisley and how she had grown up feeling invisible both in her own family at at her school. It was fun to see her begin to realize that Noah was a good guy and that he actually believed in her.

These two had to work through some drama and make some decisions to stand up for themselves before they could truly find their happily ever after together. This was a fun and easy listen from start to finish.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Falling for the flirt
This is the 2nd story in the Sweet RomCom Hockey Series and follows Noah and Paige.
Paige has been taken on as an intern for the ice hockey team that Noah plays for however she has come about this job with the intention to make them all look bad.
As time goes by and Paige gets to know and really like Noah her opinions and actions change.
This is a
-he falls first
-she hides a secret from him
sweet kisses only story that has Paige realising too late that she needs to come clean and admit what she was sent there for.
Will Noah forgive her?
An enjoyable storyline and characters old and new.
Looking forward to the next players story in this series.
I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Amanda Friday & Andy Harrington.
I also enjoyed their storytelling and characters they portrayed.

Thank you to J P Sterling, NetGalley and Victory Editing for the audiobook.

Paisley gets a shoe in to take some photos for an article when she meets Noah. Who shows her around. She’s thinking to herself.Nobody needs that many muscles Really, very, incredibly handsome . . . like so, so very nice looking and—. “Are you taking photos again? You know what I like about you?” waiting for the put down she says “ What?” “You’re not like anyone else.”“Are you rubbing that in my face?” “It’s not a bad thing. You just don’t conform. I don’t see anyone else walking about in all black clothes and combat boots. I’ve never met anyone like you before.” He’s falling. I can tell ,ain’t it swell? She’s on assignment to take some snaps. Not the kind that making a team look good in promo stats they’re not the sort she’s after she wants the action shots ,sure but the ones who show their baddest side . Who knows what for that’s the mystery…But all she discovers as she carries on with her assignment is a great group of people with one goal in my mind and it’s not how she envisaged at all. it’s the gentle kind. The pull together as a team kinda theme. …Noah has the talent to make her forget there is even a hockey game going on. All sets of eyes are glued on him as he puts on a fantastic show. She’s snapping her photos as the crowd goes wild . The crowd erupts in cheers as he shoots the puck, and it flies past the goalie and into the net! She snaps a photo right as it goes in, getting both the goal and Noah in.That was easily the coolest thing to happen since shes been in Mapleton. Noah raises his fist in triumph, and his Granite Ice teammates swarm him. Zooming her phone camera back on Axl. It would be nice if he would punch someone right about now. The guy used to be a goldmine for incriminating footage, but something has changed.Instead of losing his temper, Axl maintains control of his attitude— and the puck—as he skates behind the net These are not the ass hats you’re looking for…Now she’s changing tack and that’s a fact and not just because she’s got to know Noah who is mighty fine. It’s not their fault that their boss is Bill Baker. Maybe she can write some good things about this team… without him in it. Catching up with Noah and his friends after the game she thinks she’s going to utter something lame. “This morning when I was driving over to the arena, it was still a little dark out, and right as I pulled off the interstate, I glanced to the left—you know, where there’s all those trees—and I swear I saw a monkey.” Says Paisley “You’re not wrong. Mapleton has monkeys.” Sophie juts to a more upright seating position and extends her hand in excitement. “I see them all the time!”“So, this is a thing?I thought I might be dreaming.””Yeah, they are escaped circus monkeys, and Mapleton is famous for them. “ “That’s a little weird.” Paisley shakes her head in bewilderment,”I know I’m supposed to stick to sports, but I might have to add something about that to my article.” Sophie and Noah are the cutest couple ,it’s not his fault who his mom is married to and that he’s actually up to no good… splendid storytelling JP Sterling ! Heavenly. This was so good ,the writing is brilliantly amazing and so immersive too.

JP Sterling has written another sweet love story that will have your heart pounding.

Audio- Great duet style narration. This was a fun hockey novella. Noah gives off golden retriever vibes and Paisley gives black cat vibes which is one of my favorite tropes! I really enjoyed these characters and wish it wasn’t a novella!! Noah’s step dad and Paisley’s dad are rivals and the two kind of get stuck in the middle. Lots of opportunities for drama! Noah deals with anxiety and that comes up several times, especially since he loses his meds. I really enjoy when the MMCs are dealing with something like anxiety or other mental health issue especially when they share that vulnerability with the FMC or even their friends. This is book 2 but can absolutely be read as a standalone. I haven’t read book 1 and honestly didn’t even realize this was book 2. But now I want to go back and check out book 1. I received an advanced listener copy and am leaving this review voluntarily.

J.P. never fails to give us a great story and this is no different. Paisley is a photographer for a magazine, but having four brothers all in hockey she really wants to prove to her dad that she's as good as them. Having a chance to intern on her dad's sports magazine, she jumps at it this is the perfect opportunity. Noah is the one known as the team flirt, but saving a woman from being trampled on isn't how he thought his evening would go. When Paisley realises he's on the team she's supposed to write about. The problem is that wow he's definitely got the looks and I need this job so I have to avoid him at all costs. The twists and turns this story takes are brilliantly funny yet swoony at the same time. This is a perfect closed door hockey romance that's easy to read

The title does fit with both main characters, ice hockey player Noah takes a shot a the goal of course and Paisley takes a shot with her camera.
Paisley is a month with Noah his team, because she is going to write an article about them for a magazine. She had the plan to wirte a hit article, but when she learns more about the team and gets to know Noah she changes her mind.

Poor Paisley wanting to please her father so bad, so does things who don;t fit with her. I feel so sorry for her and I want to kick her father for not seeing how he acts to her differently as to her four brothers. I also feel for Noah, caring for his mother so much and for her happiness. But it brings him a stepfather who is also his boss and a naughty dog.
Love how Noah rescues Paisley more than once.

Shot Through the Heart is book 2 of J.P. sterlings sweet hockey rom-com series. I have not read book 1 so I do not know how each book connects to each other. With that being said, based on the storyline, it does appear these books can be read out of order without diluting the storyline or causing the reader to be confused by anyone in the book.

I enjoyed reading this book - especially when they were going to the three restaurants in the beginning and the part about her flying down the mountain skiing! Dessert is ALWAYS an option regardless of how full one is!

This was a pretty light hearted read but I was a bit surprised at the very very end. Bill is more calculating than I was expecting and I do hope to see more of Paisley and Noah in other books.

I found this book to be entertaining and insightful. Both Paisley and Noah are dealing with family drama and expectations. Both harbour doubts about their self worth and just want to make their dad or step-dad proud. Paisley and Noah also have issues with anxietybthat they do their best to hide from everyone, including each other. Paisley discovers that Noah really is a good guy, despite his reputation of being a big flirt and a ladies man. He certainly comes to her rescue a few times and seems to see the real her behind the black clothing and combat boots. He is much more than a handsome face that is often in the spotlight and she is not as invisible as she thinks she is.

I loved their chemistry, her snark and sarcasm, and his protective attitude toward her. At first, Paisley views Noah and his team as the enemy that needs to be exposed. But she didn’t count on falling for Noah and the easy connection they have, or really liking his teammates. Paisley has some big decisions to make that could put a wrench in her budding relation with Noah or alienate her dad. What happens when her secret comes out? I liked the mix of humour, tumultuous emotions, family drama and suspense in this book. It makes for some great reading.

I am happy to recommend this fascinating book.

‘You’re going to have to make it up to me.’

Unbeknownst to either of them, their (step) fathers are rivals on par with some of the best in history and fate is determined to prove opposites attract in this adorable hockey centric rom com. Paisley is a reporter for a sports magazine that her father owns and she’s been tasked with getting the dirt on the Granites...which should be easy since the team is known for their knock down drag out fighting. Until she meets the guys in person and one particular guy catches her attention. Noah. The team flirt. Or is he? Noah is carrying around a lot of secrets of his own and my only fault with this book would be that we didn’t get to dig into those a little bit more and see how Paisley helps him after he helps her break free of her own demons.

This book has it all, awkwardness between protags, good food, hidden rivalry.

This story doesn’t pick up where the previous story left off, but it does continue the hockey season!  Although while a part of a series could be read as a standalone!

I absolutely enjoyed this book. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

I listened to the Audiobook! I absolutely enjoyed the narrators! They were great as well.

A quick closed door hockey rom com in duet narration. Paisley and Noah are both getting started with their careers and lives. Noah is truly a good guy even if the media tries to shine him in a different light. Paisley feels like she's been invisible her whole life and in order to gain respect/get the dream job she has to complete this one assignment, but her heart isn't in it. I think the fact that "anxiety" is something that Noah has to deal with and overcome is an interesting element in his story. I think so many times in books like this everyone has everything all together and figured out but he deals with his anxiety, and she deals with being/feeling invisible for years. While they're dealing with everyday issues they find their way to a HEA.

Read this book in a day and absolutely loved. The beginning of this book was definitely not what I thought it would be with our MMC Noah rushing to help Paisley at the Gala and how he found her on the side of the road when he car ran out of gas (I mean come on who doesn't love fate). From the start I hated Noah's stepfather and I'm glad I could see through him. Paisley is defnitely smittened by Noah throughout the book even when her intentions changed but Noah's anxiety was literally killing me at the major moments of the book but of course in the end we had our perfect love story.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
