Travelling the world with her best friend was supposed to erase Iris Hawthorne's cheating ex from memory. But running out of money and discovering he’s holding her cat hostage wasn’t part of the plan.
Desperate to get home, she takes a job grape picking in Provence. But instead of indulging in brie and baguettes, she unexpectedly plunges into the pool of Luc Du Comtois, a grumpy billionaire with a killer pout and a wayward dog.
Luc, her accidental swim buddy, needs a fiancée to save his family estate, and Iris needs cash to free her fur baby. It sounds like the perfect solution. The ideal business transaction. Their fake engagement is meant to be a temporary fix, but the more time Iris spends with Luc, the harder it becomes to remember their fairy tale is just pretend.
How can she keep her heart out of the equation when she’s falling for the King of Smoulder?
Under the burn of the scorching summer sun, can Iris trust this aloof billionaire with her heart, or will his family’s expectations and her own doubts turn their fairy tale ending into a continental catastrophe?

Writing about love, passion and all things tingly has always been a dream for me.
Originally from rural England, I now live in Sydney’s glorious Northern Beaches, where I’m steadily gathering freckles and dipping my toes into the ocean for inspiration.
With a focus on smart, quirky heroines and sensitive, sexy heroes, I create steamy, slow burn, contemporary romance. Always on the funny side, with a nice touch of spice.
I’m a devoted wife, mother of one beautiful daughter, a wrangler of assorted animals, and a lover of Skittles.
I truly adored this one! Who doesn’t love a wounded grumpy guy whose family expects everything he doesn’t want only to find the right girl who captures his heart at right time even though his family will never approve. This fake engagement with the right amount of spice set in a beautiful French vineyard had be invested from the beginning. I adored both Iris and Luc and together they were perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and would highly recommend. I received a complementary copy from the author.
There's plenty of tropes to go around in this one. Iris is traveling to escape a lousy breakup where her cheating ex is holding her cat hostage and harassing her for "money she owes him". Basically, he's trash. Anyway, Iris and her friend Chloe have to get jobs to make money to continue their travels and wind up working at an estate that is also a vineyard. Enter Luc. He's the rich playboy owner of the mansion. Luc is living a life where he's not truly happy and giving off a persona that isn't really him. After meeting Iris, he is taken with her and tells his grandmother that they're engaged. Another marriage clause trope. It's fine. Iris' friendship with Chloe is lovely and her growing friendship and more with Luc is swoon-worthy. He has to stand up to his family regarding expectations of him. It's sweet how he reacts to her from beginning to end. This is an enjoyable trip to France for any reader.

Reading this book was like stepping into a fairytale! It seriously had me wanting to go galavanting through the French countryside to look for my prince charming (with a good side of grumpy). It is a slow burn that has a happy ever after. It was so sweet. If cats, alpachas, pools, and wine catch your attention, check this book out!
Vicki Hilton does it again and this time it’s even sweeter than her other reads! I’ve always said this about Vicki’s books, but she does an amazing job of combining humor and romance in a way that just works so perfectly! Luc is a billionaire vineyard owner, but also the biggest cinnamon roll character you can find. He puts on a tough-guy exterior for the public but he’s just super sweet and mushy inside. A real sensitive type that wants to find love. Iris is a smart young woman that’s trying to find her confidence again after a terrible relationship that keeps lingering in her rearview mirror. So she escapes off to Europe for a trip in France working as a hand on this vineyard.
But lo and behold the arrival of Luc as he returns to his land because of an agreement that has him worrying about the future of the vineyard. Their initial meeting at the pool is laugh out loud hilarious, as well as many more moments after this. I will always grab Vicki’s new releases because her books just make me feel so happy inside. The laughable moments that could actually happen to any one of us always has me feeling like I’m reading something real, not just a fantasy story with knights in shining armor, but something I can totally relate to with my own misgivings of tripping over things and embarrassing myself to no end.
These two characters have great chemistry and there’s really not too much angst, so the entire story is warm and cozy and just made me feel happy inside. I would love to see a spin off with Iris’ best friend Chloe, so maybe there will be something down the line with her for a happily ever after.
Highly recommend this adorable romantic comedy if you’re looking for something a little on the funny side with a lot of warmth to go around!
So far I’m in the minority here. It’s just okay for me.
It was a light, easy read. Good travel companion. I do appreciate that it’s not your typical miscommunication trope, so if you’re into minimal angst, this one’s for you.
Iris is a likeable character. Luc, on the other hand, was harder to relate to. He spent most of the story with RBF (with reason, so I guess he gets a pass). There were very interesting secondary characters that I wish they spent more with. As much as I really enjoyed Chloe and Thierry, I wish we had more of Estelle and Esme… even Agnes.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you, Book Sirens.
🥐Fake Engagement 🥐Grumpy/Sunshine 🥐Billionaire Romance 🥐Reformed Playboy 🥐Meddling Family 🥐Found Family 🥐Slow Burn 🥐Insta-love (Knew each other for less than a month before declaring their feelings)
This was mostly a fun, light, cute, slightly steamy story with 2 opposite MCs who, of course, would have a memorable meet-cute and fall head-over-heels for each other. 😍 Iris' sunshine was such a great foil to Luc's storminess, and of course, she provided him the soft landing he'd always needed to be his sweet, sensitive, real self. And Luc was the accepting, protective, strong presence Iris had been missing, especially with all of the self-doubt her ex had planted in her head.
I loved the fake engagement storyline and Iris' fantastic storytelling abilities. The scene where she's weaving their web of lies for Luc's grandmother is too funny, and it goes just far enough to be ridiculous without being too much. It's entirely believable that members of high society would accept that she's an alpaca farming heiress with a poet mother, but that her family is private so obviously no one would have heard of them... 😂
I did get pulled out of the story quite a bit by the detailed scenery descriptions, which is partly why I couldn't commit to the full 4-star rating. I understand the impulse for descriptive language when faced with the French countryside, a French estate, and a historic French opera house, but it dragged on too long and too often for me. I'm also just not a fan of a third-act breakup, so those are always going to drop a story down a little for me when there is one. They didn't draw it out too long in this case, but it wasn't really necessary, and some maturity and communication could've negated it altogether.
The steam in this was minimal but good when it hit. There are descriptive scenes in this, but I think it's only 3 scenes total, so if that's not your thing then it's easy to skim over them. But for those who enjoy them, it does take a bit to get there, but the scenes themselves are well-written and detailed. It's a case of quality steam over quantity in this story. 😏
Overall I'd recommend this book to someone who's looking for a light, slightly steamy, cute, sweet story about a grump finding his sunshine while she takes a dip in his off-limits pool. I'd add that I would also love to read about the secondary characters in this one, especially Chloe and Esmé. I'm not sure if Vicki has plans for more stories in this world, but I'd definitely come back for those two. Maybe a novella about Thierry and Agnes, too?? 😉 I received an advanced copy of this book and am leaving an honest review.
I don't know it that was the goal, but this story reminds me of a fairy tale retelling. In this case 'Cinderella'. If it was, it was perfectly achieved. If it wasn't it was perfdct as well. 😀
Iris is traveling through Europe with her best friend after a breakup. Luc is a billionaire that must settle down and marry to mantain his heirdom. After a kind of funny, and lets say, wet meet cute, Iris believes she is about to lose her temporary job. After all, she broke so many rules in that moment.. but we find that Luc doesn't think about it that way. And desperate times call for desperate measures, so in a moment of panic Luc tells he already has a fianceé: Iris. After this, they have to perfect their lie so they try to spend time together to get to know one another. In this time, Iris realises that he is not all that grumpy, and he is quite considerate and kind. Luc gets to know the real Iris and finds her funny, interesting and beautiful. The lie spreads and things get tricky when they accept their feelings for each other.. after all, they've been deceiving everyone. Can two people love each other and be together when they belong in different worlds? How can they overcome such obstacles? Is love truly enough?
I really liked this story and book. There were several moments that made me laugh out loud at their banter, the moments created and the character interactions. I really like the author's sense of humor. It was nice seeing some down to earth moments and even some problems based on their different upbringing.. it made the book feel more real. But at the same time that fire and consumption between them made me eager for them to be together and say 'screw it', and just go for it! Their chemistry was almost palpable and got through the pages with so much intensity, that was overwelming.
I don't know if there are more books in this world planned, but Chloe and Esme deserved their stories to be told too! 🤞
This was such a cute story. It had all of the Cinderella vibes with Iris constantly losing her shoes.
Best friends Iris and Chloe are on a backpacking vacation through Europe. The dampers on the trip is the fact that Iris is worried about her cat (her former boyfriend won't give him back) and the fact that they are low on funds (thanks to fund liberation from people on a night train). Luckily, they found a multi-week gig at a winery. Iris has the cushier job working with the winemaker while Chloe works with the grape pickers.
Luc is the heir apparent to the winery, but he spends most of his time away attending parties. He is trying to figure out how to get out of a codecil to the will that his father made - if he isn't married by 30, the winery will be sold to the highest bidder. Luc doesn't really want to get married, but his grandmother is pressuring him into it, plus Luc doesn't want to displace the longtime winemaker who is more like a father to him than his own ever was.
Although the help has been forbidden to use the pool, in a moment of weakness, Iris decides to take a quick dip. She is caught by Luc and his dog and they all end up taking a swim. Luc is intrigued by Iris's zest for life and asks she pose as his fiancee while he figures out whom to marry for real. Iris agrees to get the money she needs to pay her former boyfriend for her cat (he sends her snarky texts regularly letting her know she owes him money).
While Luc and Iris spend time getting to know each other to be more believable as a couple, their feelings start to become real...
I really liked this story and the snail scene had me giggling.
This is my first time reading their stories and I really really enjoyed it.
Iris is backpacking with her best friend Chloe. They ran low on funds so they were staying in France for 6 weeks doing random jobs like picking grapes. Her friend Chloe is very popular with the men and has them coming and going but she always has Iris's back. Iris is the more practicaldoen to Earth one in the friendship. Her big issue is her Ex she wasted 4 yrs on is basically holding her cat at ransom. The two girls are absolutely friendship goals and I hope one day I have a friend willing to make me a curtain dress. Neither of them abandon the other when
Luc owns the winery that the girls work at. He's labeled as being an aloof Heartbreakerwho lacks attachments and connections. His late father knew he had no interest in the family business so he left everything to Luc's sister and gave him an allowance. However he had to get married by the time he was 30 or lose everything, including the winery that is run by a man who was more like a dad to him than his actual father ever would be. Luc truly is a kind gentle soul who just wants to truly fall in love instead of be forced to marry for money and standing. Grandmere was.... eccentric? At first i did not like her with the comments she made. But by the end i loved her so much.
I absolutely love their witty back and forths. I'll never look at a moths the same again or Alpecas. Her challenging him and Luc allowing her to be her unapologetic self made me so happy.
This story was absolutely what I needed to get out of my reading slump. It was funny, quirky and just absolutely cute.
Oh and we must not forget about the beautiful dog Apollo. He's the real wingman in this story.
The French Mis-connection was everything I want in a slow burn romance and more. Vicki Hilton is the absolute queen of slow burn—this is how you do it with tension, angst, obsession and just the right amount of spice. Every glance, every almost-moment, every beat of the buildup felt like it was boiling in the best way possible.
This story follows two characters thrown together by circumstance, leaning heavily into a meet-cute that feels natural and charming and a fake fiancé setup that instantly hooks you in. What starts as convenience slowly turns into something deeper, messier and impossible to ignore. The emotional buildup is the star here—watching the connection grow felt so organic and earned.
Tropes you’ll love: 💍Fake fiancé 🩷 Meet cute 🔥 Slow burn (done RIGHT) 🏹 Interconnected series 🥹 Emotional tension & angst 🫣 Wholesome but addictive vibes
What really stood out to me was the pacing. These are short, quick, easy reads but it didn’t feel rushed. This gives 2000 romcoms in the best way, I felt so connected to every character, like they were real people I could genuinely relate to.
And can we talk about how Vicki Hilton is an indie author from Sydney?! 🇦🇺 As a fellow Aussie, that’s always a massive win. I’m so glad I picked up this interconnected series at Sweet Love Book Fair—best decision ever.
I devoured this book and immediately wanted more. I cannot wait to read the next two books in the series. If you love slow burn romance with real tension, emotional payoff and characters that stay with you, this one is a must-read.
The French Mis-Connection by Vicki Hilton is a cute romance book, filled with humour. Iris is backpacking to escape her cheating boyfriend, when she and her friend land a job at a French Chateau. When she dived into the forbidden swimming pool, she comes face to face who Luc, the playboy owner of the estate. And when Luc needs someone to pose as his fiancé, she and he get into a fake relationship.
From the very first I enjoyed reading this book a lot. I have read some books by Vicki Hilton, all nice, but this one is by far the best. It is filled with humour, cute meetings, and I just love Iris. She has a great personality, loves her cat, and is so very funny. Luc does not know what to do with her, but she fascinates him, she is a breath of fresh air. He is not a playboy, just plays the part and when their relationship blossoms, he gets freer. When he tells Iris how he feels and what happened in his youth, you just feel for him. The part I most liked in this story is when Iris tells his grandmother who she is and where she comes from, all lies naturally, but that was so very funny! I loved how Iris made Luc become who he really was. And grandmother Elise is a great character also.
The French Mis-Connection is a really cute, sweet and swoony romance story, in a fairytale setting (French Chateau!), with a very flowing writing style, very likable characters, with lots of humour, meet-cutes, romance, some drama, a book I loved reading. If you want to read a swoony romance story, this is it.
Wow, where do I even begin? This book was an absolute gem, and I’m totally smitten. The dynamic between the two main characters was everything I didn’t know I needed. The grumpy + sunshine trope? Perfection. And I mean chef’s kiss perfection. It made me think of the audio: looks like he could kill you (with a single glance) he’s a cinnamon roll, and I’m here for it.
And then there’s Iris! Despite everything she’s been through, she’s still full of life, joy, and she finds happiness in the smallest things, like the warmth of the sun or a good swim. I was so impressed by her resilience and how she made life feel bright again. She had such an incredible energy that made me fall in love with her right from the start. Her optimism was contagious.
I’ll admit, I might be a little biased here. I’ve adored everything this author has written, and I seem to fall head over heels for every single story. But even so, the way she weaves these characters together, giving them such depth and complexity, is something truly special. The growth, the tension, the slow-burning connection... it’s like watching two puzzle pieces finally click together, and when it happens, it’s nothing short of magic.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a beautiful, heartfelt romance, even if you’re not typically into the grumpy + sunshine dynamic (though, I really can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be), I think this book will win you over.
PS: I can totally picture dear granny soaking up the charm of Tuft Saallow.
French love Iris is taking a backpacking adventure with her best friend to wipe her memory of her cheating, cat-napping ex. A six week grape picking layover in France kick starts an unexpected side adventure as the fake fiancé to the owner of the chalet and vineyard. Luc is rapidly approaching his 30th birthday which brings with it the strict caveat his late father put into his will - marriage or lose the family estate. What he never expected was the challenge and intrigue he experiences every time he runs into Iris, the girl he impulsively drew into his drama. I loved the chemistry between Iris and Luc. She doesn’t fall at his feet like other women which confounds him a little. But she’s been burned by love so she’s no pushover. Luc feels bound by the rules of the Will, but ultimately wants to marry for love not duty. He’s not really the partying playboy the press makes him out to be, but only a few people see the real man. These two main characters are believable, relatable and great fun to read. Thierry, Estelle, Esme and Chloe are wonderful side characters each adding an extra depth to the story. Stuart the cat, keeps things with Nathan (the ex) fresh, and Apollo, Luc’s dog, has his own time in the spotlight. This has great humour, with some very cute and clumsy moments, a hilarious “family history” from Iris, swoony romance, spicy steam and page turning storytelling. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
digital book was acquired during Stuff Your Kindle Day
Ahhhhh, this book was surprisingly funny and very romcomy!
SynopsisFresh from a breakup with an ex who cheated and taking her cat hostage, Iris went to a travel journey and ended up in France. There, she became a help in a winery and accidentally attracting the owner, Luc. Luc was in a pinch because he needs to be married before he's 30 or he'd lose the winery. He then requested Iris to pose as his fake fiance. What could went wrong?
What I like Look! At! The! Cover! sooo cuteeee. So pastel, so dreamy, and I approve!! Also, Iris and Chloe are two hilarious girls. The way Iris lied to her teeth about herself in front of Luc's grandmother? Priceless! I also secretly hope what she said were true, because? Alpaca farm? Sign me in! Luc also didn't come off as too rude, much like most MC, so his flaws were bearable. Luc and Iris' chemistry? There's no angst secret stuffs, just feel good romance. Although of course, Luc's sister didn't make their lives easy. But in the end, it's all fine.
What I don't like Nothing.
Final thoughts Got me hooked up and making me love romcom again? Definitely checking Vicki Hilton's next book!
This was a cute read with an almost fairytale retelling vibe - think Cinderella because Iris is always losing her shoes.
Iris and her friend head off on a backpacking trip around Europe after Iris splits from her douche ex-boyfriend (who is technically holding her cat hostage)!
Iris breaks the rules one too many times and comes face-to-face with Mr Hotty (who she later finds out is her boss). Luc is being pressured to marry to save his family home and he blurts out that he already has a fiancé - Iris!
They need to deceive Luc's family but Iris gets nervous and starts sprouting some hilarious and very far-fetched stories about how they met and her rich family....
Iris is so funny, some of the things that happen with her made me laugh out loud. Luc's grandmother is a gem but his sister is like a wolf...
Can they pull the deception off while fighting their growing feelings??? It was a feel good story told from the different perspectives of their varying backgrounds. It was honest and heartwarming.
I loved the dinner scene and the snail mishap! It was hilarious and well written - I could see it unfolding in slow motion as I was reading it.
I was fortunate to receive this as an ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review.
Iris is travelling the world, needing to erase the memory of her cheating ex however she doesn’t anticipate him holding her cat hostage in exchange for the money she owes him. Running out of money, she take a job at a winery in Provence, she knows to steer clear of the owners pool but in need of a refresh she dips in, only to be caught by the grumpy billionaire himself, Luc Du Comtois. Turns out he’s in need of a fake fiancée so asks Iris, she only agrees as a way to free her cat. I love the fake relationship trope and mixed with a grumpy billionaire just makes it so much more fun. Iris is clearly holding back after being bitten badly with her ex and also not believing what Luc could see in her or even if they could ever have a relationship together. I felt the story flowed really well, both clearly catching feelings and trying to hide from the other one. Their connection did feel natural, albeit it accelerated quickly but if you know you know 😉 What Luc did to finally prove his feelings for her just melted my heart, just goes to show that meeting the right person, who can see you for what are really are can overcome all. The side characters stood out too, I loved Thierry and his daughter Esme who is Luc’s best friend. Can’t wait to read her story in the 2nd book of the series.
Iris Hawthorne is on a trip to forget her cheating ex. Travelling the world with her best friend Chloe , her ex is holding her beloved cat hostage and they’re running out of funds. Thank you to train buddies and they both get jobs along their travels. When they get to a French Estate with vineyard… Iris gets a job at the winery and Chloe is set on to pick the grapes off the vines. When Iris goes against the rules and jumps in the pool , she’s joined by the billionaire owner and his dog. The owner Luc Du Comtois , insufferable billionaire with a cute dog makes a proposition , she doesn’t hesitate and becomes a Frenchman’s fake date. Great! He had a proviso to overcome in his late dad’s will and she needs the funds to pay off her ex for the sake of her pussy. Fake as all heck but it’s a heap of fun and what happens under the setting sun, is the stuff that dreams are made of. And it sure gets down and steamy in this dream for romance sake I sure hope it doesn’t stay fake . I absolutely adored this perfectly devised , well written , beautiful story. Brilliant characters! I loved them!I’m leaving my review voluntarily in my own words.
This is another meh contemporary romance for me. Where are all the good ones? I read this book while on holidays in Paris for the first time, and even that couldn't bump it up to 4 stars. It was cute and I liked the setting and the story is engaging. I liked Iris and her "breath of fresh air-ness", even if it was overplayed. Towards the end I was a little tired of how much we are reminded she's not rich and she's down to earth. We even got a cheesy scene where she couldn't function at a formal dinner without some clumsy hi-jinks. In The Princess Diaries the MC is a child, so it's more understandable, but Iris is an adult. Luc was a disappointment. I couldn't get a read on him. He's supposed to be a rich, party-boy and mostly acts very cold and standoffish. I couldn't feel sorry for his poor little rich boy act, when we're told all he does is party, and paint. The author used the phrase "the corner of his mouth trembled" way too much. She talked about the corners of mouths a lot, and usually trembled is used to describe sadness and not happiness. What a strange writing choice. It was a fine read overall, but nothing too memorable.
Can you imagine meeting your boss for the first time while wearing nothing but your underwear? Well, Iris and Luc found themselves in exactly that situation.
Luc is determined to escape his family's pressure until he finds true love. Along comes Iris, backpacking her way to France and landing in a terrible predicament. Her ex has snatched her cat, Stuart, and is demanding money for the flat she no longer resides in and to return her beloved pet. In a surprising turn of events, Luc suggests that Iris pose as his fake fiancée until his grandmother departs. Little does Iris know, she ends up falling for him.
This book also delves into societal norms and the expectations of the wealthy to marry within their social circle. It's a story filled with passion and an intriguing plot that I absolutely adore 🥰.
It's a fake engagement, but he's the first to fall hard, and the chemistry between them is undeniable.
I'd highly recommend this book, it's a solid 8/10 for me! 🥰
Grumpy / Sunshine, Total Opposites Attract in LOL Fake Engagement Vineyard Romp
This was a well-written, adorable, LOL, romp set in a beautiful chateau and vineyard in the French countryside - what's not to love? Iris is traveling with her BFF Chloe (amazing character - hope her book is next) and they hire on at the vineyard for the grape harvest. Her "meet-cute" with owner Luc and his Great Dane Apollo is hysterical, and the chemistry is off the charts. Somehow, Iris finds herself "fake engaged" to Luc to help him out and the "fish out of water" comedy ensues. The background characters are well written, and often hysterical - especially Luc's grandmother and sister. Iris and Luc's banter, flirting, and chemistry are so much fun as a real friendship and deeper feelings develop. I also liked that the story is told via dual POV so the reader really understands their deeper feelings and motivations. I hope that there are more stories with these characters set in this universe - Enjoy!
I was sent an ARC by the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Firstly, I love the cute cover and play on words for the title. This is immediately what drew me to this book. Perfect summer vibes too, so would be great for a holiday or beach read!
The story itself is a smooth and easy read, and I enjoyed the dual POVs. It's lightheartedness and sprinkles of comedy throughout kept me smiling and giggling.
The start of the story was great and gave enough background to the plot without skimping on details but also without over-complicating - it's a great balance. I found myself totally engaged in the story and wanted to just keep reading to know how Luc and Iris's story developed. It's a well thought out plot and, whilst we always kind of know when reading romances that there will be a happily ever after, I was stil on tenterhooks towards the end, hoping Iris and Luc did *actually* get their happy ever after!
The spice was also great and well-written. I loved the build-up of tension and felt that the story in this sense was realistic.
Overall, I'd rate this as 5 stars just for being such a cute, easy summer read!
This book was such a cute read and I absolutely enjoyed it. This story follows Iris who had a toxic ex who basically kidnapped her cat Stuart when they broke up. While she’s traveling through France with her friend her ex decides that the only way he’ll give her Stuart back is if she pays him. So in a bid to rescue her cat she stops her trip and gets a job at a winery with her friend, where she meets Luc the hot French billionaire artist who owns the winery. But get this, Luc has to married before he turns 30 (which is only 6 months away!). Together Iris and Luc concoct a plan to pretend to be engaged to help get Luc’s family off his back. This book had such a cute meet cute and the fast paced romance between Iris and Luc was so perfect. This book also has a happily ever after and I felt it wrapped up very nicely. I highly recommend reading this book if you enjoy reading books that feel like a hallmark movie.

What do you do when you have six months to find a bride or you will lose your family’s generations-old estate, winery and lands and your grand-mere has decided to fix you up with ladies of her choice? Well…Luc Du Comtois grabs Iris Hawthorne, who he had just caught swimming in the family’s private pool yesterday, and introduces her on the spot to his grand-mere as his fiancée without any further warning. Now he must convince Iris to agree to play the part of his fake fiancée but he may not know just what he’s got himself into either. I absolutely love this author’s sense of humor and it shows up several times in this book with the pool scene being my favorite and the introduction to Grand-mere my second favorite but I was snickering and laughing several more times too. Vicki Hilton can deliver on the serious and the steamy romance too but her witty humor is my favorite thing about her books. It’s what makes her books stand out as original to me. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A perfect mixture of an early 00’s romcom and a classic fairytale.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘩 𝘔𝘪𝘴-𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 by Vicki Hilton is a delightful romantic comedy that masterfully blends opposites-attract chemistry with a fake engagement twist.
Iris, reeling from the betrayal of her ex-boyfriend Nathan and struggling with financial woes, lands a grape picking job at a vineyard in Provence with her best friend Chloe. Her plans take an unexpected turn when she plunges into the brooding billionaire Luc Du Comtois' pool. Luc, in desperate need of a fiancée to secure his family estate, strikes a deal with Iris, who is in dire need of funds to save her cat Stuart who is being held hostage back home. Their fake engagement seems like the perfect solution — until the line between pretense and reality start to blur. The chemistry between them becomes impossible to ignore as the charade continues, and both must confront their growing feelings for each other.
If you're looking for a feel-good romance with a modern Cinderella twist that will leave you with a smile on your face, this is it! I absolutely loved this book and hope Chloe and Esme get their own books someday! I look forward to reading more of Hilton's works in the future.
