3rd reread: changing the rating from 4 stars to 5 stars due to continued personal enjoyment. :) I wouldn't recommend the comics to everyone due to many reasons, one of them being very blatant: Sexual themes and BDSM being quite central to the story. To me, this is the best love story I have read in comics I have read in years. I love Gyum and Ja-Wook, but Ja-Wook in particular is selling this to me. He is the one taking the submissive part in the relationship and has less experience than Gyum, but he is so much better at being honest about his feelings and when it comes to communication. This is the comic I return to when I read about two people connecting despite their problems, allowing them to have a "mundane" life together. While there is drama in the last season, it did not take away from the character interactions during this reread. I really enjoyed the ending, Ja-Wook and Gyum moving in together; there is no huge wedding, no child (or a plan for one!), no societal evil to overcome (apart from the yellow press, which persists). Just two people in their 30s or 40s moving in together and being excited about sharing their life. (again, skipping everything with the secondary couple)
2nd read: I have reread what I knew so far and the chapters on Ja-Wook and Gyum I didn't know yet. I still avoided chapters that focused on Yuda and his love interest as I have zero interest in either of them. All in all, I am happy about this story. It's really nice to read a love story of two adults who have their own careers going on. The relationship starts with a bit of a communication issue (more of a lack of sharing important information rather than miscommunication), but afterwards, Ja-Wook and Gyum are pretty good when it comes to communication (and Ja-Wook in particular). There is a lot of fluff and domestic life after season 1 which is highly appreciated. Still, there is one conflict in which Ja-Wook feels left out by Gyum and Gyum's attempt to fix the issue. Ja-Wook immediately confronts the issue, talks with Gyum and makes it clear to him that he does not appreciate being left in the dark. While Gyum is rather unapologetic about his original approach, he changes his behaviour thereafter. There are smaller moments, when one person may be behaving in a weird way and the partner will just ask: "Are you angry?" It might not sound like a big deal, but it truly is refreshing to see this kind of behaviour in a webtoon. * As mentioned in my first review, I still didn't feel like the dramatic conflict of season 3 was necessary (I would happily continue to read fluff about Ja-Wook and Gyum), but I like the we learned more about Gyum through that.
I still like the art style a lot, despite characters looking tired and exhausted at times (that's some of the appeal to me, I'm exhausted too). I also feel like the creator does a great job at presenting characters with their appearance, e.g. with their clothing choices. Overall, I had a good time and will return to the entire story and individual chapters. I'm looking forward to whatever Seontae will create next.
* I think one chapter in particular is season 1 is poorly written because the character dialogue and reasoning don't make a lot of sense, but apart from that, I'm satisfied with the story telling.
1st review: DNFing this with postive feelings ... lol?
In essence, I enjoyed Ja-Wook's and Gyum's story. The comic follows a simple format: people meet, they miscomunicate/are not perfectly honest, continue to get to know each other, the miscommunication and a traumatic incident from the past causes a conflict, but it gets resolved (as much as possible with two people having different sexual needs). - This is Season 1.
I thought Gyum and Ja-Wook were nice characters to follow with their issues and affections. I also enjoyed the art style a lot. It is sketchy and quite unique. Characters look tired and exhausted a lot but this creates some of the charm for me. :D
I have continued to read into season 2, but have absolutely no interest in the other couple which becomes more important. This may very well be a me problem, others seem to like them. I, however, like neither of the two alone or with the other. As such, they take up too much of the season for me to enjoy it. I honestly also don't want to read about any potential conflicts between Ja-Wook and Gyum anymore - I love the scenes of domestic life, of them having a relationship while also having their careers, but I have no craving for further "story", only fluff.
Viva 🙌🏻
This is now one of my favorites, i fell in love with the storyline right from the start. the couples and the overall plott is wonderfull. i also really enjoyed the inner conflicts of the characters... so happy i randomly found this (again)
