The Dregs #2

The Fighter

Rate this book
She’s my daughter’s new nanny. I’m a prime killing machine. She might think
she’s safe with me. But she’s not.

I committed the ultimate betrayal. All to protect an innocent.

My five-year-old daughter.

Now I am an outsider. Cast aside. Hiding in the shadows.

My dreg brothers don’t trust me anymore. Some even want me dead.

That is the least of my worries.

My kid needs me to take care of her. But I am just a wounded soldier, not a father.

I place an ad for a nanny. The woman who responds is gorgeous and kind and pure temptation.

My daughter loves her. And I, too, am falling under her spell.

Both the females in my life don’t know who or what I am.

My mere presence puts them at risk.

Now someone is hunting me. And I am forced to become what I don’t want to be. Something more dangerous than any human.

The Phantom of Death.

But if I am to survive this hell, I’ll need more than my fighting skills. I’ll need my dreg brothers.
The very ones who cast me aside.

Will they come to my aid—or will they turn a blind eye and leave me to rot?

The phantom and the nanny!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🖤💚💜💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎
Character development: 😔🤓😘😄

The Hero: Jacob (a.k.a. The Fighter) - He is one of The Dregs. They were brought into a program as children, experimented on with all kinds of drugs and animal DNA, imprisoned, tortured and trained to be elite super soldiers. All along knowing that if they got too badly injured to be at 100% of their abilities, they would be killed, because the program couldn’t allow them to be released into the population since they were too dangerous and unhinged. Jacob was unparalleled when it came to fighting. His Dreg brothers called him the phantom of death because of his ability to move so fast the human eye couldn’t detect him when he was in fight mode.

The heroine: Anna - she lived in Augusta which is now overrun by gangs and gang violence. She used to be a volunteer at the homeless shelter where she now lives, having nothing to her name but the clothes on her back. She should have left weeks ago but is now stuck in Augusta with so many others. Her job as a nanny ended when the family fled weeks ago, and she is still hoping to find another job. When she sees an add posted for a live-in nanny to a five-year-old girl.

The Story: After the Dregs escaped captivity when they were supposed to be executed. Jacob was found by the General. The crazy psychopath in charge of the program for The Company. The General wanted his best soldier, The Tracker back and planned on using Jacob to get what he wanted. The General knew that Jacob had a five-year-old daughter Hazel with a prostitute that he had allowed to come service the guys while they were captive. The General killed Hazel’s mother and took the girl captive to force Jacob to betray Tracker. Though they have since killed The General, Jacob is now persona non grata with his brothers who can no longer trust him. He is left to hide out from the bounty hunters after all of them and raise his daughter alone.

“I’d been ‘recruited’ by a man who called himself ‘The General’. He was a decorated war hero but a complete bastard underneath. His ultimate goal in life was to create the perfect soldier. So, he snatched kids off the streets and ‘bred’ kids at his facility by forcing his soldiers to f*ck whores. He ‘recruited’ boys in any way he could. Then he turned us into his lab rats, injecting us with numerous experimental drugs, and different types of animal DNA, trying to create the perfect soldier.” I drew in a deep breath, then forced myself to go on. “He subjected us to horrendous torture, brainwashed us, fucked with our minds, forcing us to become stronger, to become merciless killers.”

This story wasn’t your typical single father falls for nanny trope. Anna had no idea who Jacob really was, what he did for a living or just how dangerous he was, though she did pick up on the fact that he was dangerous pretty early on. Jacob was also teaching Anna self defense so that she could protect herself and Hazel. Though she didn’t understand why it was so important and who she would be protecting herself against. The fact that they were practicing self defense moves together brought them into pretty close proximity and the attraction between them was ramped up.

One thing I can never understand in books and movies, is when a character is forced to betray his friends because someone else is threatening or holding a family member hostage. I mean if that character doesn’t want to betray his friends, why tell those friends what is happening and ask those friends for help. Chances are that if Jacob told Tracker that the General was threatening to kill Jacob’s daughter, Tracker would have given himself to the General in exchange and the Dregs would have had a plan to fix things. Though I suppose that doesn’t further the story like betrayal does….

Fighter, one who can become a ghost, a phantom and fight his enemies by moving so fast that he is nearly invisible. He is the second dreg to enter my life and boy, did I like him so!!

The story goes thus; Jacob needs a nanny for his daughter Hazel, only Anna answers his ad and soon starts living with them, giving a sense of normalcy to this family. To protect his daughter he had to betray his dreg brothers and leave them, but soon Hazel and Jacob are kidnapped and Anna has to find the rest of the Dregs and persuade them to help.... And the story rolls on with action and twists....

My second book by Leslie Georgeson, had me sitting at the edge of the seat wanting Jacob to be rescued and his dreg brothers forgiving him, helping him. The action scenes were the ones which caused my adrenaline to overflow, and Leslie's writing had me longing for more. Guns, grenades, fight moves — what more could my 'peace loving' heart ask for?

Leslie's innate storytelling talent pulled me right into the depths of the story, there was the right amount of suspense and thrill. Her twists left me gasping, and I love it when a book has me turning the pages fast. This story had an endearing father-daughter bond which went over and beyond everything  to connect with each other. I loved the way Jacob could telepathically calm his daughter. The cute Hazel was really her father's daughter. Read the book to know what this cutie could do.

Then came the heat factor, the sensuous scenes that Leslie wrote had me squirming with bated breath, they were hot and literally could have the steam rising from them. Fabulous!!
The book had romance, action, and thrill; all that I needed to read it in a single sitting.

What can I say...

They are the Dregs and I love them all and that's all that matters!!

He is a fighter and he will fight for what is his

Jacob is definitely The Fighter but he is also more than just that. He is a father to his young daughter Hazel, he is a former soldier, he is a lover to Anna (well at least eventually in this story), and most of all he is possessive and very protective of those people he loves and/or are family.
This is a fast-paced and very engaging story about Jacob, Anna and Hazel. Jacob is a former soldier who left to raise his daughter Hazel. He hires Anna to be Hazel's nanny and soon they become a family unit. But when Jacob and Hazel are kidnapped it is up to Anna to find the Dregs and persuade them to find and rescue Jacob and Hazel.
The story has a great mix of action, intrigue, violence, romance, love and of course some hot sizzling chemistry that gets busy between the sheets and other places. I found this book a reading experience and definitely am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Jacob was having problems with not knowing what to do with his daughter Hazel, so he went and put an ad for a nanny. Anna answered the ad, Jacob took her gave her money for a hotel room. Jacob told her that she had to be able to get Hazel to trust her or no job. Hazel liked her so she was hired. Jacob started liking her and was teaching Anna self defense moves, because he didn’t want her to be defenseless. She liked volunteering at the veterans home, but she led a gang leader to Jacob so he thought that she turned him in for money. She escaped and got the rest of the dregs to help free Jacob and Hazel. Jacob had some problems from all of the fighting and killing so he had to fix himself and be with them! Anna was kidnapped and Jacob found her they got away and moved out of that area for the rest of their lives.

What great book. When the decision you make takes your from the only family you've ever known it's scary. What's more terrifying is trying to raise a child you've only spent a handful of visits with after her mother's been killed.

What Fighter must do now is find a nanny and make no mistake she better be the best... Or else.

When she's asked to meet a stranger in a parking lot at midnight she knows she's out of her mind because she's gonna do it. She needs this job. She just hopes she's not making the biggest mistake of her life!

This is a good series and each book gets better than the last.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The storytelling is different and it really catches you. Jacob and his daughter Hazel are so sweet and then along comes Anna to add to their family. The heat in this book is so sensuous and steamy. Wow this series is awsome

This series is amazing this is a non-stop adventure. These 9 men went through hell. They were tortured and abused in unimaginable ways. Then the phantom death dealer meets his Angel and his unique little girl. He is a loner by choice but finds he needs his brother in arms and his Angel to survive. This book was impossible to put down can't wait for the next book in the series only 6 or 7 to go.

I likes this one better than the first one. I just liked Jacob, liked how special and strong he is, but at the same time inexperienced and confused. It balances itself out beautifully.
I liked Anna, I think she was a good partner to Jacob - soft and strong at the same time.
And gosh, the relationship between Jacob and Hazel - so cute.
It was very good plot with a nice pace, so you don't get bored, and because of it it can be read in a day.

I discovered Leslie Georgeson last year. When I first read Tracker, I thought this book is different than any of the other books I read. Leslie books have both action and romance. I have grown to really like her books and cannot wait to read the entire series. I look forward to see how she shares each of the Dreg stories.

The chemistry between the main characters is out of this freaking world!

I felt that the author had the ability to convey some depth to the personalities of the characters bringing life and likability to every person.
The writing draws you in and keeps you interested until the end.

I received a copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

The Fighter is the second book in The Dregs series and is a hot and steamy read.

The storyline is well written and captured my interest from start to finish, with betrayal, a child, danger, suspense, twists and turns, paranormal powers, and a chance for romance.

I loved it! This one was a little more difficult for me to read due to the content (gang wars; women being bought and sold; men dying in illegal, underground fights; Jacob being blackmailed TO fight; etc) but I think that made it more important for me for the Dregs to WIN! Kudos, Ms Georgeson, for handling such difficult topics so masterfully.

Another great Dreg book. I'm almost out of battery and it's past 6:30 am. Yes, I've been reading all night. If that doesn't tell you how good this book is, nothing else will!

Jacob is The Fighter, who can bring down many enemies by "ghosting." He has a young daughter to protect and must find a nanny to keep her safe. Jacob doesn't count on falling in love.

I love Leslie's writing she makes you feel like you are in the story. This was well thought out, had great characters and side characters. This is the second in the series and can be read as a stand alone but some references and characters make more sense if you read the first. I loved the connection that Fighter and Anna had. It was great to see that Hazel and him bonded. This is a must read. I recommend this author and this book to all. I received it as an arc and voluntarily reviewed it.

I really like the concept of this series! So this is the second one and I much preferred this to the first, although I enjoyed the first as well.
The thoughts and feelings get quite repetitive, however the couple was really likeable and worked well.
I am so glad Jacob got his friends back. His powers were awesome, and his daughter having them as well was a great idea.
Although he's a great soldier, it's great they aren't indestructible and have limits.
I would happily continue this series.

I loved this series of books… I loved the guys of course, drool worthy imaginary yum-Yums. I really don’t know who was my favorite character personality but all books are well worth the read…
I enjoyed the origina lity of the Dregs and the story behind their training and was furious with the abuses they endured.
I had a hard time putting each of the stories down I spent most of the week on many short sleep nights… but well worth it.

Repetition , repetition, repetition

A disappointment from the first book of the series, the author seemed unable to cut all the double, triple texts out of this second book in the series. So much rehashed thoughts and sentiments. I’m not opening book three any time soon.
