Rate this book
He tried to escape his life. He never expected to leave the world behind.

Dan Walton has returned to Earth a changed man. While he builds his legacy and navigates fragile relationships, new anomalies begin to stir. Fractures in the multiverse are forming, and those he once called allies may be trapped beyond reach.

As Dan prepares for another journey across space and time, Galecian, one of his fiercest companions, awakens in a world of endless sand. Weakened and alone, Galecian must survive Audun, a brutal desert realm where the gods are myths and the magic he once commanded barely flickers. There, he encounters strange creatures, forgotten powers, and a scholar-warrior who may hold the key to hope.

The multiverse is unraveling. Enemies are rising. And what was once a mission to escape has become a race to restore balance before entire realities collapse.

Time The Tale of the Sand Dwellers is the second installment in the sci-fantasy saga where invention meets divinity and survival demands more than strength. It requires belief.

This sequel continues the first novel’s themes of adventure, exploration, trust and manipulation, but creates a new plot and adventure. Powerful demigod Galecian, introduced in the first novel, now finds himself in a distant desert world and gets caught up in a surprising storyline. Like Dan on his travels, Galecian needs brains and bravery to survive, but he’s also discovering more about his place in the universe. Galecian is the child of a god on his home world, although here, in a non-magical world, he’s without his powers. It’s hard to discuss this book without revealing spoilers, or revealing spoilers for the first Time Hopper novel, but Galecian’s loss of magic feels like a curse in an epic fantasy, as he must find other ways to survive and make his way back to the people he cares about.

The scifi adventure in Time Hopper: The Tale Of The Sand Dwellers, has a Saudi style, full of creatures from Saudi legends. You don’t really need background knowledge to follow the story well, this is readable as a scifi journey, and the new creatures add interest.

Over these two books, Dan has built his own company, a real friendship with his mentor, and even add some romance to his once-solitary life, so he now has important treasures he could lose. Time Hopper: The Tale Of The Sand Dwellers sets up high stakes for Dan and Galecian, and the rest of the characters. Engaging questions of who to trust and questions of implied hidden agendas keep tensions high and return to the themes of trust and manipulation found in the first novel.

Once again, the ending makes it clear that these adventures through time and space, and some of the shady machinations behind the scenes, aren’t over.

I enjoyed Time Hopper 2 even more than I did with Time Hopper 1! This was because of a multitude of reasons. Firstly: because ultimately it reminded me a lot of the Dune movies, in a good, original way, rather than a way that was too similar. Os Ibrahim conjures up the desert doomworld exceptionally well. The setting was visually rich and atmospheric, a real change of scene from book 1. It was fresh and dynamic. Also: I love the character of Galecian, so seeing him take centre stage, and build new relationships with new friends, was huge fun for me, and a refreshing change from the world of Dannie Walton. I preferred the desert adventures to the scientific angst of Dannie, and I hope the two characters will meet again to bounce off one another in book three! Tale of the Sand Dwellers also dealt in mystery, Saudi legend, poetry and myth, and I lapped all of that up. Now I am just keen to read book 3! No spoilers but the cliffhanger ending left me with a dropped jaw and I am truly looking forward to what lies next - resolution, more drama, more disaster? I hope vengeance and come-uppances feature!
