The way I view self-help books is simple - if you get at least one thing helpful out of it, then it was a worthwhile read. Lucky for me, this book was filled with helpful tips. This version of "Speech Therapy" is "Now with More Words, More Wisdom, and Even More WTFs."

The Captain (yes, that's the author), goes through 65 different WTF situations and suggests to the reader how one should or should not handle them.

Some chapters were applicable to my life. For example:
- Chapter 4: A Furry Friend Destroys a Possession
- Chapter 30: Woke Up on the Wrong Side of the Bed
- Chapter Just Can't Catch a Break

While other chapters have prepared me for future situations. For example:
- Chapter 14: Stranded on a Desert Island
- Chapter 41: Bitten by a Rattlesnake
- Chapter 62: Abducted by Aliens

Although some of the chapters seem silly and may not apply to you, there are many chapters that will be more specific to your life. Regardless of whether I had been through a chapter's situation or not, I found The Captain's advice to be solid and delivered in a humorous way. I never felt lectured at or spoken down to.

This was a fun and enlightening read and I would (and already have) recommend this to anyone. Even if you don't read self-help books, I think this one is a good place to start.

I received a #gifted copy of this book from a @goodreads giveaway, in exchange for an honest review.

Blunt, witty, honest, detached. When you need an unemotionally charged bit of advice about any number of crossroads moments, you can probably find it here. You don't even have to unburden yourself to get it. You simply have to open the book, read the concise pages, and make a decision. Follow the advice or not, it's a comfort to know it is there for the taking.

A good book for a gift or to keep in a bathroom. That’s about it.
