True love never dies…no matter how much I run from, ignore, and bury it.

At eighteen, I don’t bother to collect my shattered heart before giving my body to the Army, and years later to the Boston P.D. When my Captain thinks I’m running my life into the ground, I’m sent home to fix myself. But going to Ember Falls again could break me more.

He doesn’t realize that my job provides an escape from all that haunts me. It’s what I do to survive. But in a small town where everyone knows my heartache, I’m forced to dig up and face my past—especially when Carmen, the woman who was my everything before she threw me away, has run back, too.

Instead of staying out of my blazing path, she launches a campaign to win me back with the help of the entire town. Our past is like a stain on my life, and if I can’t remove it before she can convince me she made a mistake all those years ago, I risk losing more than just my career.

Mistletoe Misses is a sweet and steamy, closed-door, contemporary romance. Content warning: Some mild coarse language, casual drinking, mentions of past abuse. Republished with updates: 11/6/24

A very sweet and cozy Christmas romance!! I had the joy of meeting with Alexandra to talk about a vision she had in mind for this book early on.

Since Carmen is a songwriter and writes a song for Maddox that plays an important role in the story, Alexandra asked if I could bring it to life. After hearing about the plot and characters, I spent some time getting in Carmen's head and wrote her song!

It was so fun to actually read the book after knowing the story and bringing the music to life. The banter was cute, the emotional growth was satisfying, and Sadie was adorable!

Thank you so much for letting me be part of this book Alexandra!! 💕💕💕

Aww, Mistletoe Misses is a Christmas favorite of mine. It's one of those stories that feels like a warm hug. The second-chance romance, the small-town vibes, the growth and self-discovery... it's like a Hallmark movie come to life, and I'm here for it all. I love how it feels like you've read it before, but in the best way possible. The "what if" and the "what could've been" make for such a sweet and satisfying read. The characters add to the charm of the story.

Carmen and Maddox are soulmates. Carmen breaks Maddox's heart on her 18th birthday and he is devastated. He leaves his home town after graduation and doesn't return for 9 years. At a crossroads at work, he's put on leave and told to figure things out. He reluctantly goes back home and realizes that the woman who broke his heart is there and she regrets what she did to him. Through the town's Christmas activities and his grandmother's meddling, Maddox finds that he is home again. Reconnecting with Carmen opened unhealed wounds, but they found each other again. A heartwarming love story of second chances and true love.

3.75, rounding to 4 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Tropes:
❤️small town
💚single mom
❤️second chance
💚blue collar hero
❤️dual pov

This story begins with the two main characters, Maddox n Carmen at age 18. Our MMC, is set to propose to his girlfriend, Carmen. But unfortunately she had other plans and leaves him brokenhearted and behind.

Fast forward 9 years and after Maddox military career was over he became a police officer in Boston. His boss forces him to take some mandatory time off and Maddox heads home , not realizing that Carmen has returned and is back in their hometown of Ember Falls.

Our FMC, Carmen is back in Ember Falls with her daughter, Sadie in tow. Carmen decides she wants to talk to Maddox again and try to put the past behind them and get everything out. She now realizes how much she hurt Maddox, but also herself, as neither one got over each other.

Overall, I thought it was a cute short and sweet book. Not super spicy, although they did have chemistry and a couple spicy moments. I just wanted a little more background on it… like more of why his family never gave him the heads up about her and her life, more into her past as well. I also really liked the sibling interaction n text banter, which hopefully sets up for future books.

Overall a cute sweet story.

A cosy, small town, second chance romance.

To be honest when I first started reading this it really bugged me that they had both been miserable and lonely for 9 whole years. I get that love when you’re teenagers is all consuming and feels like you’re actually dying when you get dumped but that’s part of life. You pick yourself up and move on. So initially it did put me off.

BUT I am so glad that I stuck with it. Maddox had great character development. You get to go on his journey of finally healing and processing his pain. He is very frustrating and I just wanted to shake him at times but that made me really invested in him and the story. He’s such a great guy. I love how much he loves kids and interacts with them. I liked how the relationship between him and Carmen developed as well.

For fans of soul mates and second chances you will love this book. Maddox and Carmen have amazing chemistry and it’s clear to everyone that they belong together forever. I really liked Carmen too. She’s a great mother and friend.

There are so many great supporting characters too. Nana made me really miss my own Nana. I just wanted to give her a hug. Sadie is adorable and I want to adopt her!!! I love Maddox’s siblings too and can’t wait to read the rest of the series for their individual stories, particularly Cooper and Izzie.

Overall this ended up being a 4⭐️ read for me. I loved the small town Christmas vibes and I did get invested in the characters even if Maddox did drive me crazy.

Maddox and Carmen are high school sweethearts but she breaks up with him when they are 18 so she can move to California and pursue her dreams.

9 years later he’s on a work leave and decided to go home for a little while. He hasn’t been back since his graduated high school. He runs into Carmen who has been back the last 4 years… and she has a daughter.

I felt it kind of unbelievable that he was still grieving their relationship THAT HARD after 9 years. Also, I don’t understand why she wouldn’t have reached out to him sooner. Instead she waited until she randomly saw him again. I appreciated how she made it clear what she wanted this time around and it was him. I loved Maddox’s relationships with his family & his nana. He’s very easily attached to kids too. He’s definitely a total sweetheart.

This book totally gave me hallmark movie vibes. Overall, this was a cute, holiday read.

What to expect:
-Single Mom
-Second Chance
-Small town hallmark vibes
-Dual POV
-Closed Door

Thanks to the author agency for this ARC. This is my honest review.

I enjoyed the concept of the story-Carmen broke Maddox’s heart when they were 18. She left their small town for LA, and he left with a broken heart. 9 years later he returns looking for a re-set on his life, only to realize Carmen has come back home too.

I did find it odd that his family would keep things from him, or at least not give him the heads up with what was going in Carmen’s life. It seemed a little rushed at the beginning, especially with how quickly Maddox took to Sadie but as the book went on , I enjoyed it more. Loved his relationship with his siblings and his Nana. The meddling from her was great. Nothing wqs gonna stop her from helping Maddox feel happy again. I liked that when Carmen expressed her feelings he took it slow, and didn’t rush back into anything with her. He was cautious but could tell he was fighting it so bad.

Carmen took the initiative to talk to him again and I liked how open and honest they were with each other during each conversation. She won me over by the end too. For being a closed door romance , their kisses and chemistry was felt through the page. The ending was super cute!

There was some good set ups for the rest of the books, for the rest of the siblings. They definitely have my interest, and I can’t wait to read more from them. They were fun!

Thank you to Alexandra Grace for the eARC and having me as part of your street team.

What a beautiful Christmas second chance romance ❤️ These types of books hold a special place in my heart and this did not disappoint. There’s just something about finding your soulmate that you thought you previously lost that makes my heart happy.

This closed door grumpy sunshine romance is perfect for the holiday season. This book was written so well that I felt every single emotion Maddox was feeling. His heartbreak, anguish and all.

Sadie was the sweetest little 8 year old ever. I loved seeing hers and Maddox’s relationship grow throughout the book.

Definitely add this to your holiday book TBR!

Mistletoe Misses is a sweet, small town, second chance romance. It’s based around their small down of Ember Falls during Christmas time. Nine years ago, Maddox was ready to propose and spend his life with Carmen, but Carmen was about to leave to start her life in Los Angeles. Lots of things happened to each of them along the way, and they find themselves back in their small hometown together again after so many years. There’s so many fun family members, a meddling grandma, and silly small town antics. This was such a cute read and will be perfect to read this Christmas!

I love Christmas. I was immediately drawn to this book, and once I started it, I couldn’t stop.

A second chance romance book set around Christmas in a small town with a single mum.  But they were also high school sweethearts.

my favourite a meddling Nana. This reminded me of my own Nanna in parts and I loved it!

A great read for the holidays! But I need Izzy and Cooper's story now.

I loved the cozy setting of this book, it's definitely a Christmas small town romance with second chance and found family feels! I love how every single one of Alexandra's MMC's always have some connection to the military, whether current or in the past. I enjoyed the fact that Maddox was a city cop! The contrast in the book was so well done, the Boston city setting we meet Maddox in compared to the homey community feeling of Ember Falls!

This was such a sweet story too, I loved that Maddox's Nana kept volunteering him for silly jobs like helping set up for the festival or dog sitting for her friend - she's such a meddlesome old lady and I freaking loved her. She also has this stubborn side to her and you can totally see where Maddox gets it from! I loved the group chat between Maddox and his siblings too - those were hilarious and brought the perfect amount of comedy to the story!

Queenie was probably my favorite part of this book! She's such a little firecracker of a girl, with a spunky attitude and just an overall loveliness. I loved hers and Maddox's friendship. This story was also really, really short and such and easy, quick read so if you are looking for something that gives you a holiday feels with all of the above vibes, I highly recommend it!!

4 star Review Mistletoe Misses by Alexandra Grace

Alexandra Grace is a new author to me and I am surprised I have not come across this author before.

This was a sweet, entertaining read with characters whose story drew me in. Set in Ember Falls I enjoyed Carmen and Maddox’s story.

These two have a history and they will need to face the past if they are to make a future together.

Set around the Christmas season, this second chance at love story ticked a number of boxes for me.

Mistletoe Misses by Alexandra Grace is a must-read that will capture your heart. I fell in love with these characters from the first page. Childhood friends turned lovers, Maddox and Carmen face numerous challenges that kept me glued to the story, blending heartbreak with heartwarming moments. The adorable dog Trixie adds an extra layer of warmth. Nana's bossiness, wit, and charm, along with her playful matchmaking, add delightful charm. Cooper and Aaron, Maddox's loving brothers, bring fun energy, while his sister Kendall is a force to be reckoned with. The entire family exudes warmth, making this story impossible to put down. If you're seeking a heartfelt, uplifting read, and Christmas cheer don’t miss out—grab this book now. I highly recommend it.

"She walks away to slice the pies as if I'm not a flight risk. Funny."

At age 18, Maddox is set to propose to his lifelong love Carmen under the mistletoe, but life has other plans for both him and Carmen.
9 years later, Maddox, a police officer in Boston, is put on administrative leave after an incident and he returns home for the first time to Ember Falls. To his surprise, Carmen has returned from LA with a daughter Sadie, i.e. Queenie. Maddox is haunted by his old relationship with Carmen; as well as having to deal with Jada and Harper chasing after him, and Trixie always needing him by her side.

Who does Maddox choose? You're going to have to read to find out!

I rate this book a 4.5 out of 5 and the spice level is a very respectable level.

As in Alexandra Grace fashion, this novel is fantastic! I loved the Christmas and holiday feel of this novel and the characters were some of my favorites!

Maddox has had his heart broken, more like ripped to pieces by Carmen. After an unexpected breakup Maddox leaves town and joins the military. He then becomes a police officer in Boston. When faced with time off, he returns to his hometown and is faced with his past and Carmen.

Carmen, remains in the small town of Ember Falls and has always regretted hurting Maddox. When he returns can they overcome their past and can he forgive her?

This novel was so dang good! I binge read it and I fell so hard for Maddox!!

This was my first book by this author but it definitely would not be my last.
The story was well written i loved almost all the characters. My heart broke for Maddox, the pain he had to go through for 9 years. So this might be an unpopular opinion. I wasn't sure if Carmen deserved a second chance. Because if everything had gone right in LA she would never have come back. Even though she insisted that, that wasn't the case and that she never stopped loving him. Plus she had 4 years to contact him after she came back to town but didn't until she saw how much more handsome he had gotten over the 9 years they were apart which did not sit well with me.
I really loved the story though and Maddox was an absolute sweetheart so the 4 🌟 are for the sweet man who would have won every reader's heart.

4.5

This was a cute second-chance romance and I loved reading every moment of it. Maddox and Carmen split at 18 and as a result, Maddox devoted his life to his job, never returning to Ember Falls. Yet when he has no choice but to return home, he dreads facing Carmen and the life he left behind. I loved how they communicated as adults (something they didn't as teenagers) ensuring there were no longer any lines for miscommunication. Maddox's relationship with Sadie/Queenie was my favourite as you can see his 'hard shell' soften. I loved how Maddox and Carmen slowly built their relationship and were able to help each other heal. This was a cute start to a new series, and I cannot wait to read about the rest of the characters.

Thank you to Alexandra Grace for giving me a free copy in return for an honest review.

Life & hurricanes happened! Finally able to do my review! Thank you Alexandra Grace for Mistletoe Misses! I loved this holiday read! In this book, we follor Carmen and Maddox who are childhood sweethearts. On Carmen's 18th birthday, Maddox takes her on a sweet scavenger hunt. He has big plans in mind for them. Carmen on the other hand, has big plans of her own. What plans may you ask? Plans to break his heart. Maddox swore he would never go to the town that made him again. He was too afraid of reliving heartbreak. After being forced to take time off work, he decides it's time to go back home. Maddox had no clue that Carmen would be there too. She had originally left to go to California to pursue her singing career. Once Carmen sees him again, she knows she needs to go after that second chance. The connections that Maddox makes with several characters in the book and with Trixie, an adorable dog he is tricked into watching.... it shows how big of a heart he has. I would recommend if you like sweet, steamy, closed-door, contemporary romance, second chances, dogs, and holidays! I cannot wait for Alexandra's next book! 🎄🎄🎄

What a perfect holiday romance read. If you love small towns and second chances, this book is for you.

Carmen and Maddox, high school sweethearts destined for love, come to a screeching halt when Carmen decides to pursue her dreams in California. Without Maddox. Because, why should he abandon his dream to follow hers.

Without Carmen, Maddox leaves Ember Falls and his life behind. He turns to the Army and then the Boston PD. Taking care of others is what he does best.

That is, until he’s forced to take a break and has to take care of himself.

For the first time in nine years, Maddox returns to Ember Falls. And who else just happens to be there after all these years? Yes. It’s Carmen. And she has a child he’s already fallen in love with.

Can their feelings reignite after all these years? Can Maddox overcome his fear she’ll leave him again? Will he stay in Ember Falls or will he return to Boston where he lives and works?

Go read this book now to find out.

Favorite quote “Wait until he stuffs your chimney with his-“

Five stars. Highly recommend.

Alexandra Grace is one of my favorite authors. I will always, always, always recommend her for romance - especially if you enjoy healing military heroes. She is so talented in bringing those heroes to their HEA + getting you to fall in love with them and their healing journey along the way. Her characters have a way of making you fall in love beside them.

With that being said...
I've tried piecing this review together a handful of times. Truly... I could not connect with Carmen. 😖 I'm all for second chances but I was so set off by her. I just didn't feel that pull, that spark, that...soulmate feeling between Carmen and Maddox. I did enjoy Maddox's character and adored the other interactions he had with people, especially Sadie. Their relationship was fun. Also, a meddling nana? LOVE THAT. She is one of the best parts of the story!

Overall, I would recommend it. It was cute and it will give you all the cozy, feel good small town Christmas hallmark vibes.

Nine years ago, Maddox was a teenager ready to give his entire heart and life to his high school sweetheart Carmen. But, Carmen had ideas of leaving their sleepy little town to chase her dreams.
Maddox left their sweet small town to become a soldier and cop and attempt to forget his heartbreak. After an unfortunate incident at his job, Maddox has to go back to his town for the first time in nine years. He guards his heart, ready for the pain that the town and its memories will bring him; however, he wasn't prepared to see Carmen again or the mixed feelings she dredges up.
This book made me yearn for a white Christmas! The scenery described is picturesque, and it made me feel like I had visited Ember Falls before. Maddox is a fine man in looks and temperament, with a Broody exterior and teddy bear interior. Carmen is a bubbly personality who throws her heart on the line. While the main characters and their stories are sweet and moving, the side characters really help make this story the happily ever after that it is. This was a charming Christmas second chance love story that was endearing and enjoyable the whole read. Definitely a must-read for the Christmas season!

I received this arc in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much for sending me the arc. I love your books so much and without a second thought I signed up for this one too.

This is a second chance romance. Maddox and Carmen are soulmates. They were that couple of the town and when Carmen broke his heart at her 18th birthday and left him shattered, the whole town got to know about this. Maddox never got over her and joined the army. He didn't go back to his town. After 9 years, when his superior forced him to take a leave, he went back to his town only to find Carmen there. His heart is so broken that he found it hard to communicate with her.

I loved this second chance story. Maddox was deeply hurt because he loved her so much that when she told him she cares about her career and wants to break up, he couldn't take it. He always wanted to be a part of her life, whatever she does. When he came back, another person, a little girl entered his life and brightened it with her joy. This book wams my heart.

Love hard and this book was no exception. Maddox is was broody and heart was broken and reading his story and seeing how he grew throughout the was amazing!! I loved Sadie her light was such a joy and for how young she was she was wise beyond her years. Carmen was stunning and while I wanted to not like her at first she owned up to her mistakes and paid heavily for them. I laughed in this book I cried. I had so many emotions. I want a family like Maddox’s. I’ve always longed for that in my life and it’s hard to not have it and accept it. I want a love like Maddox and Carmen’s. I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing new series. Yall need to get on the ball and read this book!! I didn’t know I needed this read until it was over. Now I have to go find something else that is gonna be as good as this book!!!!
