I can always count on Masterpiece to craft a story about two complex characters finding love. The crazy thing about this story was Vision and Sheraine didn’t like each other, but I’m 100% certain that was a front. Their chemistry was too intense for that to be true. One of the things that I enjoy is when one of the characters is anti-love or grumpy. That was who Vision was - after suffering traumatic losses, Vision had no desire to find love. Like Omarion said - “he had an icebox where his heart used to be.” He was heavy into his business and his BDSM lifestyle and was very mysterious. However, he met his match in Sheraine. Like LSG said, “What’s behind door number one could probably get the job done.” LISTEN TO ME - Vision turned Sheraine’s life upside down. I was not ready for the festivities that happened in Club Vision. However, the way Sheraine handled Vision was nothing short of amazing. She knew her worth and wasn’t going to let some tall, dark, and handsome man tell her anything different. 😝 I thoroughly enjoyed seeing two opposites come together in the name of love. The plot was strong, the characters grew throughout the story, and the spice was off the pages. They were nasty! 😮💨

4 🌟 This was quite an enjoyable read indeed! Vision Ramshaw... My, my, my! That's all I am going to say. I really enjoyed his character & the masculine energy as well as the nurturing energy he carried once he allowed himself to feel again, despite the trauma he endured & the guilt he felt. The way he treated Sheraine just had me all gitty, kicking my feet up & everything.
I honestly wanted more of their story, & the only other reason I had for not rating this higher is all the typos I had to decipher, which is a HUGE pet peeve for me in regards to writing in general, not just books. All in all, just know Mr. Vision has me wanting to read more erotica in the realms of BDSM because I really, really, REALLY loved the type of Dom that he was with all that big d*ck energy! 😏🫠

BBW/BDSM trope. Fmc is curvy but imperfect which I love. She doesn’t have a super small waist with thick thighs and a big butt. First time seeing that and I love it. Short read and fast paced. I enjoyed it.

Let me preface this with the utmost sensitivity, because I am treading as lightly as I can with the honesty I'm about to offer. The only reason I'm bothering to craft this feedback at all is that I was that invested in the story. You don't write a letter this long about a book you didn't love. So before anything I say lands the wrong way, please read to the end, because every word of this comes from admiration.
I am you. I'm a proud millennial who has spent childhood, teenage years, young adulthood, and now middle adulthood with my face and my mind tucked into a book. I've lived many lives and been stretched across many universes from the pages of books. And like you, my passion is creative writing.
I earned my bachelor's in English and creative writing, and even while I procrastinate on my own dream of finishing my work, I've never stopped being an avid reader. That's how I found you, through Shelby's YouTube channel Shelbey and the Book Club, and her podcasts League of Extraordinary Readers and Well Read Wool, which have put me onto so many brilliant Black independent authors. This book came to me through her "coochie book" series, under the hilarious title "They Be FAWKIN In These Books!" I picked it up expecting to be entertained. I did not expect to be haunted by what it could have been.
Here is what I loved, and I want to name it clearly, because it's the reason the rest of this letter exists.
I loved the metaphor of Vision's congenital eye disease. A man who can't see anything unless it's held close to him, a man who has to draw near to truly see her, is every woman's quiet fantasy made literal: to be loved by a man who only has eyes for her. In a world flooded with OnlyFans and porn and endless temptation and moral looseness, the fantasy that pulls every woman into this book is a man with the morality, the self-respect, the sexual discipline, and the devotion to find all of his fulfillment, sexual, emotional, and spiritual, inside one monogamous covenant. Vision has the bones of that man.
The intensity of how he loves, the depth of how he pleases, the merit behind his work ethic, his willingness to evolve, that is the most beautiful potential for a love story I've encountered since I returned to erotic fiction.
You wrote two people with real chemistry, a genuine drawing toward each other, the kind of soul-recognition that happens before a single word is spoken. As Rilke put it in Letters to a Young Poet:
"Love consists in this, that two solitudes protect and touch and greet each other."
You gave us two solitudes. What I'm asking is that you let them actually greet each other, slowly, the way that line implies: a threshold met again and again, not crossed once and called a marriage.
Because here is my honest heart, writer to writer. This book gave us the destination of love without the journey to it. Rilke also wrote:
"For one human being to love another human being: that is perhaps the most difficult task that has been entrusted to us... the work for which all other work is merely preparation."
Vision and Sheraine had years of glances and tension, and then, after she gets drunk at a party in the very BDSM club he owns, they fall into bed, unprotected, without ever having had a real conversation. Soon he's asking her to marry him. As bell hooks writes in All About Love, we would all love better if we treated love as a verb rather than a noun. This book told us they were in love.
I wanted it to show me the verbs: the dates, the deep conversations, the years of accidental vulnerability and pulling back, the push and pull that earns a covenant. The chemistry was real. The development was rushed.
And I say this knowing the genre. This is erotica, and I honor that. But you and I both grew up on urban fiction that was every bit as grown and explicit and still took its time. The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah. Eric Jerome Dickey. Zane.
Those books ran 350 pages and longer, and they used every one of them to build the characters, the tension, the plot, and to tie their loose ends before the last page. Their eroticism didn't come at the expense of the love story; it came because of it. That's the standard the genre already set, and it's a standard I know you can meet, because I can feel the writer in you on every page.
So here is what I, and I promise you I am not the only reviewer saying this, would love to see in a revamp (Warning! These are spoilers):
● Tie the loose ends. The book opens with Vision's family being murdered by the cartel, his pregnant wife shot in front of him on the same day he loses his mother, father, and best friend. He's shot too. But we're never told how he survived, why he was allowed to live when the cartel killed even their own member who'd been teaching him the trade, or how he got away. That thread is the emotional engine of his entire character, and it's left dangling. We also never see consequences for the unprotected sex; Sheraine never becomes pregnant, and the story simply moves on. Her younger brother, running with a gang and bringing his friends to their devout mother's home, is introduced and then dropped. The mother's harsh judgment of Sheraine is raised and never resolved. Each of these was a promise to the reader. I wanted them kept.
● Let us grieve with Vision, slowly. He visits his wife's grave. He thinks about his unborn child. But we live in those moments from the outside. I wanted to be taken inside his skin, into the years between the loss and the hardening, into what he did with his grief, into why Sheraine specifically caught his eye across all that time. Was it only that she's a Jehovah's Witness like his late wife? Give us more. The more interior detail you give, the more unforgettable, and honestly the more mainstream, this story becomes. I am a devoted fan of slow, detailed, three-hour-movie kinds of stories. Put me in the mind of every character. I live for it.
● Now the most delicate thing, and I offer it purely as craft. Vision is written snapping the neck of one of his former subs, Zarielle, and the book notes he'd done this three times that same month. I understand the intent: to establish him as hard, dangerous, untouchable. But for an intelligent millennial audience that has lived real trials, real heartbreak, and in many cases real experience with men, misogyny, patriarchy, and violence, it breaks the spell rather than deepening it. If he is capable of that violence toward other women, nothing in a grown reader's mind lets her believe he simply wouldn't turn it on Sheraine one day. It quietly undercuts the fantasy you built. And there's such an elegant fix available: let the violence come from his team, not his hands. Give Vision women among his enforcers, his shooters, who decide behind his back that these subs, who couldn't take no for an answer, who violated the terms of his lifestyle, who started stalking him, needed handling. Let them be the messy ones. It keeps Vision dangerous and powerful and in the streets, it removes the direct misogyny, and it actually makes his restraint more attractive, not less. Look at Midnight in The Coldest Winter Ever: deep in criminal life, right hand to Winter's father, and still written with faith, limits, and boundaries. A man can be a bad boy and still have a line he won't cross. That's what makes the fantasy hold.
● On Sheraine's faith. I want to say this gently, because I'm a deeply spiritual person myself. The heavy emphasis on her Jehovah's Witness beliefs didn't quite earn its place in the story. It's raised often, but it rarely changes what she does or shapes the plot, so at times it reads as preachy to an audience that mostly didn't pick up an erotica title to be preached to, especially in the middle of the very scenes the book exists for. I don't think the answer is to cut her faith. I think it's to let it cost her something, to let it genuinely war with her desire, so it becomes real internal conflict instead of set dressing. She even says she doesn't want to lie down beside a murderer. That's a thread with enormous power. It was never pulled.
● And a wish, from one woman to another. Sheraine is written as a sub, and I honor that dynamic. But it would have been beautiful, if the love story were given room to breathe, for there to come a moment where she gets to give him pleasure, where he trusts her enough to let her. That takes time to build. But it would make the eroticism reciprocal, more intimate, and frankly more erotic, because trust is the sexiest thing on the page.
There's a growing belief in the indie writing world that you can accomplish everything in just a few pages, that shrinking to fit society's shrinking attention span is the smart play. I understand the pressure. But I don't believe it, and I don't think you do either. We shouldn't feed the short attention span; we should do our due diligence and reward the reader who wants depth. An intelligent audience can always tell when it's been shortchanged.
And a millennial-and-older audience is not asking merely to be aroused. We're asking for substance. For layers. For a love we can believe in.
None of us would be writing these reviews if this book didn't have greatness in it. It does. The characters are alive enough that I can already see every path they could walk. All I'm asking, as one writer to another and as a genuine fan, is that you take your time, let them bloom, and give this beautiful erotic story the timeless love story it's clearly capable of becoming.

Where can I find a man like Vision? From his height, to eyes, and.locks but just his overall demeanor. Fighting back what he felt every time he was around Raine was slowly melting the ice built around his heart but because.of past trauma he knew he had to approach her differently or keep away which was becoming harder, until one of his friends birthday that he would be celebrating at his club, knowing the type of club he owned he.couldn't accept other men or women wanting her in that way thus he had to step up his game and he did just that which started their journey.
So happy he didn't try to take her away from her faith, and when she finally checked her mother I was so very proud of her, I would have made her get out of my home.sending her back to the house she was.allowing g her son to destroy but she kept the bills up. Her mother seem to hold her brother on a.pedestal but he kept disappointing her only for her to belittle Raine. Another great read.

Love At First Sight!!
Sheraine and Keoriah did a pop up Diego and got her own feelings hurt. She knew he was cheating with Sasha but to see it with her own eyes made it real. Then disfollowed from the Kingdom Hall it hurt her soul. She made a deal with Keoriah if she calmed down, she would go Tyce birthday party with her. Keoriah and Tyce are a lil nutty. Sheraine stepped into Vision world and got turned out. Zarielle had it bad, she knew speaking on Sheraine would send him over the edge. Vision has that effect on women. Sheraine had a heart to heart talk with Vision of what she would accept and wouldn't accept. He realized that he was infatuated with her. Then loves her, changed his ways for her. Going to see if he can get his sight fixed so he can see her clearly. Sheraine mama thinks he's a pimp. All that matters is Sheraine knows the truth and loves him for him.

I loved this book! Short, spicy with points that really had me thinking about what matters in life. This was a gift from my friend Nicole! And I’m glad she got it for me. I’d been really wanting a book about black love with size representation and real female bodies!!!
Vision finding his redemption in Raine after all he went through was so endearing for me. I wish it was shorter and longer at the same time hahaha. Makes no sense but there were parts where I’m like okay explain more.. for example her relationship with her mom and other parts when I was like take me to the next scene already.
All in all I really liked this book… although the Kitty🐱examination proposal really sent me 😂😂😂😂

This needs a trigger warning because this one will have you highly aroused
I love these BDSM books more and more. Vision and Shermaine shocked me definitely because the taste of them that we got from the Virgin Society books had nothing on this! Vision is officially Sir Bae in my eyes!! I like how detailed everything is with explaining as much of the Lifestyle and BDSM to the reader as possible. I was aroused from beginning to end so trust me, be careful where you read this and who you read it around. You might end up doing some things lol

This is what i expected and more from Vision. I feel like if they would have acted on their feelings at a different time things would have been different. I am glad they wanted when the time was right. It's so crazy to see Keoriah and Tyce family now because they are still funny to me. Both Vision and Sheraine had something for each other. She needed that unconditional love and he needed that nurturing love. I loved that for them. Even though it was short we got a lot out of their love story!!

I procrastinated reading this book. The beginning had me intrigued. I wanted to read about vision and his time after they murder his family.i did appreciate the religious aspect of the book. It's so many people who struggle with what they desire and their beliefs. I love the boundaries raine set with her judgy ass momma. And so she put into perspective how she sins as well too ! To be in a relationship let alone a marriage where your dom is your man your man your man.. ugh I wish !! I love that for raine and kee !!

I loved Vision and Raine’s love story and I’m happy Vision got his head out of his ass to love on my girl. This book was so spicy I’m happy that if Raine was going to sin and enjoy worldly pleasures like sex that she got to experience it with Vision but I wish she would have waited and lost her virginity to him not Diego ass. Her mama pissed me clean off but I do hope she comes around or she’ll be missing out on her future. I would love to see a holiday story with all the couples after marriage and kids and stuff that would be dope.

This book was excellent! Setoff from the jump. The first few pages get you all invested emotionally and then The spins and surprises at each turn will have you startled with your mouth hanging open from the shock of it all!! You don’t realize certain things are about to be revealed until they hit you smack in the face! I love a book that’s not predictable. In all honesty though 169 pages didn’t do this story Justice in my opinion. I could have read about vision and Raine for at least 300 pages. I hope the next book in the series has vision and Raine in it as well

Amazing Read!!!
Loved the flow of the story. It gives you to peek into the BDSM lifestyle… I loved the buildup of Vision and Raine lives and their love for one another… I like that Raine had someone who was already into it but didn’t force it on her but simply introduced it to her and allowed her to make her own choice. And despite what their past lives entailed they didn’t allow that to determine their future…. This was my first book from this author and I must say I truly look forward to reading more from her. Keep writing and I’ll definitely keep reading!!!!

Vision
The book was satisfactory; however, it does not represent Masterpiece's best work. Typically, her writing leaves me fulfilled, with all narrative strands neatly concluded. Unfortunately, this book did not achieve that effect. It felt underdeveloped and left numerous loose ends. Consequently, it did not inspire me to pursue the spinoff featuring another character. Nevertheless, I remain an admirer of Masterpiece's work and will continue to read her future publications.

Vision
When I first read Vision’s story in Virgin Society I was wrapped in! Knowing him in this light…i would submit! Knowing that he found light in darkness with Sheraine is enlightening! This is a HOT 🥵 read! I love that it doesn’t have much violence. I love the description of Raine’s body because a lot of people paint the same image of a BBW but Raine is very realistic! I can’t wait to explore Beamer! Keep the masterpieces coming!

So happy for Vision, that man is alpha male for sure! Raine is just who he needed, she was then only one to get him to open up! I truly loved how he was able to reconnect with his cousin, Vision was so vulnerable! I love how Raine had to distance herself from her mother, she provides boundaries necessary to be the woman she wants to be! I'm looking forward to Beamer story with hopes of seeing Vision and Raine wedding!

I absolutely loved Vision & I’m so glad he was able to accept the love he deserved. Vision intrigued me when he was introduced in Virgin Society and his story was truly heartbreaking. I understood why he didn’t want to love anymore and why he tried to stay away from Sheraine. But clearly that didn’t work for either of them 😅 They had so much chemistry & tension and I loved every part of it. I loved how they put their trust in one another to make it work ❤️

Love reading about Vision and Rain. Vision finally making peace with his past. Letting love into his life. Rain she is definitely doing better about setting boundaries with her closed minded, judgemental and I may say shameless mother. Rain deserves peace and happiness outside of the construct of male centered religious beliefs. Good Book and a good ending to a interesting series.

Vision
The story line was good. I didn’t get the whole Exile from the JW Kingdom Hall. Seems that took away from the story for me. The mother is so judgmental, I still never understood the issue with her and Raine or even her son. I did like Vision, felt there was some layers we missed with him.

Love this story!
I was worried he would give in to love but so glad he did! Glad he was able to release all his build up emotions and it took the beautiful Sheraine to do it!

I was so anticipated to read about Vision. But I have say I felt like this was rushed a bit. Everything happened so quick between Vision and Sheraine. Yes the sexual chemistry was there but I feel like that was all that was there. It wasn’t a bad read just needed more. I still recommend because I do love Vision.

I enjoy all your books. I didn’t too much like the plot of her being a disfellowship witness. I think the book still would’ve been good with her just being a church girl and not a disfellowship witness. Or even mentioning Jehovah Witnesses!
