They thought they could break me, but they had no idea how wrong they truly were.

I’m every Alpha’s worst nightmare. A Rogue Omega who can’t be tamed.

So when the government gives me a second chance with a new pack, I can hardly contain my surprise.

Except there is just one teensy, tiny problem; my new pack are major jerks. And the more time I spend with them, the more I want to kill them.

But I must control my Roguish impulses. If I kill my new Alphas, then I’ll be back on death row.

It’s just a shame that I have fallen head over heels for their new Omega.

Brody is everything I’ve ever dreamed of. But his Alphas, Theo, Kellen, and Alastor, won’t let me have him.

It’s fine, though. I was never one to back away from a fight.

That Omega is mine.

So, bring it on, Alpha jerks.

Sentenced is a contemporary Omegaverse that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. There is no choosing, and scenes of MM/ MMFM. Trigger warnings apply.

This was…an odd book.

And warning this is only book one of two.

So this is about Twenty-Two, an omega who was locked away for killing her abuser. She’s mentally unwell. And she is to be given to Theo’s pack as a last resort to handle her else she leave this world in death.

Parallel, we meet Brody, a male omega who is quite educated and living in luxury, who is meeting his pack, his Theo, his mate.

Both omegas gave different receptions, obviously. Brody is a wanted omega, whereas Twenty-Two is voluntold into this pack. Brody gets coddled and doted on by Theo and his fellow alphas Kellen and Alastor whereas Twenty-Two gets shackled and abused.

When Twenty-Two is given a room and a name (Ella), thanks to Brody, Brody sees Ella as his and she sees him as hers. And the Alphas aren’t fans, from Theo finding Ella just a corpse walking to Alastor considering her a plaything that he likes to Kellen calling her a Rogue.

And Brody is okay with that, apparently.

When the time comes for the pack to go to a formal ball as a unit, things take a turn for the worst: Brody goes into heat. And so, the Alphas rush their Omega away…and leave Ella to fend a mob by herself.

When Ella finally makes it back, Theo runs her off. And Brody, in the lull of his heat, finally realizes his Alphas will never be the pack he can trust when they refuse to accept and protect his Omega Ella. So Brody makes the call to leave and the pack has now crumpled.

So.

Let’s discuss.

THE GOOD

✅ I like Brody and Ella’s budding relationship the most.
Omega x Omega stories always have my heart. Any homodesignation story honestly. It shows you the spectrum of designations and gender expressions the most.

✅ I liked that Ella was a wounded bird who stayed wounded. She wasn’t cured all because she met Brody. She had her issues.

✅ I do like that the pack didn’t want two omegas. They were horrendously flawed but flawed nonetheless. The author did a good job of making me despise them. I like that the pack was also not a unit and had a lot of struggles.

✅ The fact that Brody left this pack during his heat? Phenomenal. I’m glad he did so. It truly showed that he could never be whole without Ella.

THE BAD

❌ The fact that Brody accepted Ella being mistreated is what kills my goodwill. This happens in a lot of stories where the Omega MMC is in a pack that takes in an Omega FMC: he dismisses the abuse she faces and doesn’t hold his alphas accountable until the end of the book if that. I’ll talk about what I hope for in my section “Wishes for Book Two”.

❌ Over the top animosity. I think the author pushed too hard in making Theo the asshole of the pack. This is a common why choose tactic, having a dedicated Asshole Among Men ™ MMC to force some sort of conflict and angst. Theo was the most flawed and I know he’ll be the least to atone.

❌ I needed more of Ella’s past to appreciate her present traumatic response. We gloss over it in monologues and then she also pants a bit over the alphas.

WHAT WOULD HAVE IMPROVED MY RATING

☝🏾 I wanted to see how Ella got here in full feature. I also didn’t want her to start panting over Theo nor really anyone. I wanted there to be nonsexual intimacy that built first. But omegaverse authors always have to push the narrative that this subgenre is inherently sexual when it isn’t. Had we had more time to explore Ella and Twenty-Two before she met the pack, this would have increased my rating. Same to exploring Ella’s trauma and having her have nonsexual intimacy with Brody.

☝🏾 Brody holding his alphas accountable and holding his affections hostage. I’m sorry, but Brody isn’t the perfect guy for Ella when he never really put the alphas responsible for hurting “his omega” repeatedly. Had he been more robust in this, my rating would have improved.

WISHES FOR BOOK TWO

💫 Ella finds herself a support system that does not include Brody, nor is it abusive or romantic. She finds people who are willing to give her the space to express herself and have a relationship with her trauma in a healthy way. She recognizes that Brody, while a shining light, was an accomplice in her mistreatment by simply turning a blind eye as it benefited him. She doesn’t easily forgive him. And with the pack, she doesn’t have any appreciation over their looks nor is she in lust with them. Alastor is the one to be ordered to hunt her down, so it’s plausible he finds her first and decides to stay near her. If so, I hope they become friends and he falls first while she takes her time. Because Kellen was big into nest building, I hope he builds her a nest. As for Theo, I would be okay if he and Ella never had a romantic relationship or it was one-sided (he loved her).

💫 Brody recognizes he should have done more if he truly cared about Ella. He also finds himself a different support system. He doesn’t go back to the alphas immediately. Alastor followed his orders, so him finding Ella would put him and Alastor in good standing. But I should hope he doesn’t easily forgive Theo nor Kellen, not until they atone and Ella acquits them. Only then should Brody be more accepting of them.

💫 All three Alpha have layers of reflection, accountability, and atonement. You made them assholes. You now need to show the work they do not to “start over” but to recognize their behavior and then improve independently and for Ella (and Brody).

💫 Focus on Ella. Omega MMCs in why choose worry me that this book will ignore the FMC. Too many times have I been burned by why choose book heterogendered with a male omega, and the book was secretly MMM+ while the FMC is just here to pop out babies and be a token vagina. So I hope Ella is given a lot more focus on her wants and needs.

OVERALL

It worries me with duologies like this. This book kinda exacerbates how unhappy the Alphas are with two omegas and makes Brody out to be the perfect love interest who is the only one who truly cares for Ella. So book two will focus on the runaway and redemption. But this can go very poorly.

It also worries me that Ella will finally have her heat and she’ll have the pack fuck her. I truly hope Ella being in heat doesn’t bring the pack together. I hope, if Ella’s heat happens, that if Alastor and Brody are there, she still decides to use a heat clinic instead. Let Brody also be punished for not standing up for her. And I also hope that Gryphon intervenes, punishing Theo the harshest for this and making sure Ella is properly housed, educated, and supported.

But I don’t have too much hope for book two. This reads as yet another omegaverse why choose that has an alpha-killer FMC, abusive MMCs, the “perfect”
Omega MMC who likes the MMC, and a heat that goes wrong.

And book two will probably not do anything different than those books.

But we’ll see.

Poor Ella! I hope those alphas grovel in the next book because as of right now they deserve to suffer and never earn themselves any forgiveness. I loved the book, couldn't put it down. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book.

3.5 ⭐️

Okay, as someone who rage-read 3 of the last 4 books, I was prepared to hate this book as well, and transparently, I did read this looking for problematic points to call out. Straight off the hop, there are some copy/paste tropes from Mila and Belle’s duets - a mean, abrasive pack alpha who’s obsessed with his male omega; another alpha in the pack who is alluded to early on as being “unhinged”; and the FMC and Omega Male are immediately obsessed with each other.

That being said, I enjoyed the fact that Brody and Ella were introduced to the pack simultaneously, as opposed to having the FMC join an already formed and solidified pack. I enjoyed the dichotomy of the pack welcoming Brody in and the contrast to Ella being rejected at every turn. It just feels like there’s proper plot tension amongst Brody, Ella, and the Alphas, which was sorely missing with the first two duets.

Plot aside, I maintain my previous comments that there needs to be more thorough editing/beta reading. I’m reading this for “free” (AKA through KU), but I would be pissed if I paid specifically for this book and found myself submitting multiple Kindle typo/plot error/etc messages within the first 20% of the book alone.

All in all, I think this is the strongest story so far, and I’m pleasantly surprised to say that I’m looking forward to book 6.

I’ve loved a lot of Violet Foxes books! But I think this book in particular has my heart. I REALLY love it so much. I stayed up till 3 am just to finish the book. I wish I could give this beauty a higher rating because I would if I could.

Twenty-two. My heart hurt for her so much! I wanted to wrap her in a bubble and keep her safe! But I love how protective she was of Brody her male omega. Although she never had experienced love, the way she was with Brody had me swooning so hard. Their connection was so beautiful.

Now the alphas. I want to kick them lol. Need to shake them and rattle their brain! They need to pull their head out of their a**. I can’t wait to see how they grovel and come back in the next book! I mean there was times I was bawling because I was like you have another connection!!! Don’t shut it out lol.

Spice? This book was low spice. But I love the sweet moments she has with Brody. They are seriously so cute! I’d say the spice level is about a 🌶️🌶️ in this one.

Overall, this book was soooo good! I highly recommend! You don’t have to read the other in the series. But if you do you get a little better understanding of the shared world. You meet some of the other characters from other books in this one. If you love omegaverse this is the one for you!

I absolutely LOVE this series! All of the Beta Trials books have been phenomenal! And now I'm going to go sulk because I have to wait for the next book...(if I had an omega nest I would go grab a stuffy, some coffee and snuggle...)

Ok, back to the book. Ella is one of the rogues - twenty-two to be exact - who was trained to be a killer. Although unlike Belle in the previous books, she didn't need the sound of a bell to trigger her to violence. While in her cell, Gryphon (books 1 & 2) and Jeremy (books 3 & 4) take her out and assign her to Theo and his pack. Theo is NOT happy about this as his pack JUST took in another omega - Brody - and they are committed to him.

Unfortunately for Theo, Kellen and Alastor (the alphas), they underestimated the pull of the two omegas to each other. Aaaand....cliffhanger. Darn you Ms. Fox!! (just kidding...love you and your books!)

Ella is so complicated and wonderful to see. She's vulnerable and innocent yet vicious, protective and absolutely able to stand up for herself if needed. And the alphas totally underestimate her. I love watching her and Brody together!

ugh

Brody is the only redeemable male lead in this. The three alphas starve and neglect the fmc, and literally are dumb af. So what if she killed one alpha? She’s literally been stuck in cells and was defending herself from r-pe. She didn’t even have a real name, like come on. 🤦‍♀️

They either hate her or think she’s a play thing. What happened to omegas are to be cherished? The entire book she didn’t even have her own clothes. Brody was the only one I liked but even then he didn’t kick the alphas and confront them on the full treatment of her.

Not worth the read when it’s filled with hypocrisy.

It’s a duet! I didn’t know and now I have to wait far too long for the next one!

I’m glad we’re getting the story of the other rogue, she was a curious character, but we really didn’t learn much about her past in this book. I was hoping for some more overarching plot progress and information, which unfortunately didn’t happen.

There was a bit of needless repetition in the writing for the inner monologues, mostly for the FMC, but the MMCs had their moments too. The multiple POV was great to have, and showed the minimal growth of the MMCs at this time, here’s hoping they figure things out in the next book!

I can’t wait to read the rest of this story!

I hate books ending on cliffhangers without a warning. It’s infuriating.

I avoid most “bully” romances because I clearly have a lower tolerance for what I feel is forgivable than the average romance writer choosing to live in that genre. This author has walked that line in previous books but I think this one may be over it for me.

The alphas are irredeemable in my view. Honestly, even the male Omega was lacking and I LOVE books where we get them. He held so much power but exerted almost none of it. So disappointing.

Our FMC deserves better than this whole pack - even with a personality transplant, how do you forgive this level of evil?

Sigh.

I do love a good underdog story and Ella (22) is kinda giving those vibes. No one fully expects her to succeed in her rehabilitation after the trauma she’s been through and the Alphas she’s sent to live with to help control her more violent impulses are definitely not helping matters. But I thoroughly enjoyed reading a setup where there’s a pack (omegaverse) without a longtime established dynamic between Alphas and their Omega having to welcome not one but two omegas for differing reasons and then seeing their differing interactions and how the other Omega quickly bonds with Ella’s near-feral self. It was just a fascinating dynamic that I’m intrigued to see how it’ll turn out in the second half of the story. I expect much groveling from the three Alphas.

My heart

This series just pulls at your emotions. Another great omegaverse with a traumatized rogue omega.

Number twenty two is a truly heartbreaking character. Only a few see that she can be redeemed and the alphas she's been placed with only see her as a threat. And of course it's the sweet omega that sees who she really is. His mate! Unfortunately is alphas don't see the same thing.

Glorious continuation

Of one of my favorite dystopian Omegaverse stories. You do t need to to have read the other books, though they are wonderful, to enjoy this one. The alphas are the very most detestable example of alpha holes I’ve read, and I can’t wait to see the redemption arc, because boy, is that a deep hole, they have dug. There is a cliff hanger, I have full faith this wonderful author will bring everyone back together, though I can’t wait to read it!

Rogue

I'm so here for the rogue omegas. 22 is my kind of psychopath. I can't wait to see how she blossoms!

Brody is shaping up to be a sleeper rogue omega. He has more steel in his spine than anyone is giving him credit for.

The alphas are truly less than desirable. Each one had potential, but I'm just not a fan of enemies to lovers troupe and it never feels like they grovel enough for me...

Twenty-Two is a beautiful omega who just needs a chance... after all it's not easy for a girl to be brainwashed and raised to be a weapon. Fortunately for her, she's given that chance. With sweet, protective, and lower spice moments.. Violet Fox has continued to write beautiful books.. and this series does not disappoint!

these alphas are not redeemable

Why is this 2 books? I wont be reading the second book this was almost dnf but kept thinking one of the alphas would get it together. The alphas treat both omegas like crap..There is very little plot development and the story changes very little from start to finish

This book broke my heart and blew me away. I have already started Scarred (part two to this story). Ella is a little badass but also so innocent and the world has been against her. I adore Brody! He truly cares and it was awesome to see him come into his own. Man those Alphas…. I wanted to hit them more than once like damn she is a person too.

Couldn't put it down

This whole series has been a roller coaster, one second cute, feet-kicking sweetness... then throat clutching, need-to-punch-an-alpha anger, and stomach dropping sadness... the next book needs to have some serious groveling, lol.

I like the ideas of the books Violet Fox has… (even if they’re very similar to others, let’s be honest.) and I read them mostly to scratch that itch…

But I just can’t get past the writing. I don’t know what it is about it that just makes it unbearable to read.

Anyways, at least they’re short enough that I can read them. Didn’t scratch that itch tho.

I know violet fox often writes awful alphas and in the 2nd book we get to see them apologizing, groveling and getting a redemption arc but this one just pushed it too far for me. I couldn't find a single redeeming quality in any of the alphas, they were all awful. Usually at least one is likeable. Not here. I didn't even find the romance and feelings for their chosen omega to be sincere since they only knew him for a few days, had no real or deep conversations and then immediately were assholes that the male omega chose to just ignore and spend time with our female omega instead over dealing with. I seriously could not find a single reason to care about them. 22 was compelling, she's been through so much and I really wanted to see her happy. Instead I'm treated to more torture porn. I would have liked to see her being more vulnerable with Brody as well. It's just hard for me to believe their feelings when they don't know anything about each other. Anyways, there is no sequel to this book that could redeem them or make them likeable in my eyes. The only actually happy ending would be if the two omegas could just be together without any alphas and we never see those unlikeable pricks again. Since I know that won't be happening I will not be reading the sequel and try my best to forget about this book. Which is a shame cause I did genuinely enjoy the other books in this series but I hated pretty much anytime anyone other than 22 and sometimes Brody spoke. Maybe it is a testament to the authors writing abilities that they were able to make me dislike the alphas so much. We are of course SUPPOSED TO think the alphas are assholes so it is even more fun to see them grovel in the sequel but there are just some things that no amount of groveling can fix for me and can't/shouldn't be forgotten. not to mention in the other cliff hangers for the first stories the alphas usually were already showing regret and growing feelings (if not fully invested) for the new omega but that's very much not the case here. They still can't stand her and maybe find her hot at best. This was a miserable read for me. I kept reading hoping there would be a shining moment of redemption for someone or I could finally see 22 happy but it just kept being awful.
