The Dark Throne #2

Awakening the Dark Flame

Rate this book
Still struggling to process the terrors forced upon her in the light alfar Kingdom of Urial, Genevieve Autumn arrives in the sadistic Kingdom of Doonak where her father, King Drezmore, has named her as his heir. Half-human, half alfar, Gen must train in the ways of politics, war, and diplomacy to stay ahead of those who find her unworthy to sit on the dark throne.

Finally reunited with her sister Lilian, Gen finds an unexpected home in the mountainous walls of the dark court, and an unexpected friend in Ambassador Erendrial Lyklor. As her fondness for Eren grows, Gen tries to reconcile her feelings for the male she has come to know with his cruel and conniving reputation.

Meanwhile, terrifying creatures continue to pour from portals around her new kingdom. Gen and Eren will need all their power, skill, and influence to face the growing threat. Surrounded by enemies both known and unknown, Gen must determine friend from foe while fighting an internal battle between her head and her still-tender heart.

I honestly was unsure if the second book would rival the first… I absolutely LOVED the first and was so obsessed that it was like coming down off a high after finishing it and I was almost depressed being done. But let me tell you… the second one does just that. Jessica somehow is able to write another book just as amazing as the first that is going to leave you emotionally wrecked yet dying for the next book. This book has a lot packed into it - you won’t want to set it down! As in her other series, Jessica does an amazing job weaving history and biblical beliefs into this incredible story. This book contains A LOT of emotions - you’ll cry, you’ll scream, you’ll laugh… I’m still sitting here processing everything in this book and am heartbroken over it. I have major hope for what is to come in book 3 and cannot wait to continue the story! I’m sure Jessica will continue to throw some major curveballs our way but I am here for it! This is a series you won’t want to miss!

Did I neglect every adult responsibility I had to be emotionally destroyed by a paper back?

Absolutely yes I did.

To summarize:
Otar is BFF goals, please plan the best revenge with me, claim my gift as your own and threaten our love interest for being dumb smelly boys.

Also dad goals, green flag, yes please.

Witty banter? ✓
Dark and handsome? ✓
Smut?✓
Betrayal?✓
Revenge?✓

I laughed, I cried, I sent reactions to my book bestie through her whole date because HOW DARE SHE NOT BE AVAILABLE AS MY HEART WAS RIPPED FROM MY CHEST, SMASHED TO A PULP AND SET ON FIRE!

AKA blew up her phone because obviously she's not Otar. (PS T, you know it's not personal and that date wasn't even that fun sooooo I just gave you some entertainment)

PS if your book bestie is unavailable please feel free to message me as your heart is destroyed in a vicious manor.

TLDR: Just go read it. Like right NOW!

Awakening the Dark Flame is a gripping followup of Book One. Genevieve Drezmore navigates her new surroundings as Princess of the Dark Alfar Court and, with the help of her guide and tutor, Ambassador Erendrial Lyklor, she slowly heals from the trauma she endured in the Light Court. I couldn’t put this down and read quickly as Gen reunited with Lily, made new friends, and learned valuable skills. She doesn’t realize how deeply she has fallen for Eren until it is too late. She finds herself emotionally attached to a male who refuses to give her “feelings and monogamy.” Just as Genevieve almost has mastery of court life and control of her future within her grasp, betrayal strikes and unimaginable tragedy unfolds. It seems that love and happiness were never in the cards for Gen and Erendrial?

ATDF is exciting and boldly dark, eliciting a full rollercoaster range of emotions. This is what I love about dark fantasy. This book didn’t hold back on deep plunges of lust, anger, sorrow, longing, and all those delectable feelings that fuel an emotional junkie. I kept reading because I truly wanted to know what happens next.

However, I found some aspects of Genevieve’s character development distasteful. I didn’t understand why she was critical of her sister Lily when they were reunited. After befriending Gaelin, Levos, and Erendrial herself, I thought it was a harsh of her to find fault with Lily being attached to a dark alfar instead of being grateful for Lily’s survival and happiness. She is indulgent with her creepy and fiendish demon, Otar. Although she has an intriguing dominance over Otar, as well as her dragon, Tarsyrth, many of these same interactions emphasize her unrestrained darkness. Yet, I am told that all the alfar are attracted to her “light” which I assume is a zest or vitality that is unique to her. As a result, I wasn’t fully aligned with her until the tragedy struck. Her tragedy is one that elicits maximum horror and sympathy. It was almost too visceral for me.

Erendrial was frustrating for the obvious reasons. I adored his arrogance and competency, and also his softer side with Genevieve. But openly sleeping with her rival and insisting that he couldn’t give her what she needed long term? Well, that’s going to lead you to the deep dark hole that you’ve dug for yourself, Mr. Ambassador of Lies and Manipulation. Good luck with trying to win her hand. You’re going to need it!

I liked this a lot, but didn’t love it as much as I hoped. As noted by other readers, there are noticeable and jarring grammatical errors and misused words. I know not everyone agrees, but mistakes that would otherwise be overlooked during an enthusiastic reading can become cumulative micro wounds when you are already struggling to overlook other faults. The most telling response is that I feel frustrated after finishing this and not ready to sign up for THREE more books of whatever star-crossed love exists between Gen and Eren. It’s a great book, but I’m not sure if I can continue with the series.

What do you mean the last 40% of the book wasn’t just some messed up dream or vision? Every time I started a new chapter I hoped for their fked up nightmare to end… WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT WAS REAL WHAT DO YOU MEAN???

Also: Otar is the best and no Otar slander will be tolerated 🥺

Holy hell. I can’t breathe. THIS WAS EVERYTHING. I think this is going to be one of my favourite series for 2024. No joke!!!

ARC review - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - huge thank you to the author for allowing me to be apart of the ARC team for this book.

The fact I was already laughing, smiling & crying on chapter 1 says it all.

So let’s see what I loved about this ARC read..

Otar!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 cracking. He is hilarious. I need more of him.

Chapter 15 - oh, this broke me.
Chapter 18 - I can’t cope anymore!

I couldn’t write down any more chapters that stood out for me because I was so invested in this book I couldn’t put it down & every chapter had something for me to love.

The emotions this book put me through. What on earth just happened. I won’t lie, this book was not going the way I expected with how book 1 ended but my gosh, it did not disappoint & it just was a ride.

I did not expect anything that did happen, to happen! I cried so much in the last 20% & the twists & turns made me feel even more broken! I just wanted to be there for both of them, if ya know, ya know😭😭

This book series is everything you need in a dark fantasy romance. It’s on the darker side so read those TW’s.

The ending.. as soon as he spoke those words, I knew it was coming & THANK THE HEAVENS it did. I am so excited for the next book now, this series is just going to get better & better as it goes on.

The fact we have THREE mores books in the series?! Gimme gimme gimme!!!

💚Enemies to lovers
💚Lovers to enemies
💚Magic & creatures & dragons & monsters
💚World building that isn’t overwhelming
💚Marriage trials
💚Lies, betrayals & twists
💚Spice
💚Strong FMC

This was simply amazing. I can’t wait to rave about this even more. Thank you & congratulations.

I loved the first book, the second was hard to swallow with everything going on. I didn't expect certain events to happen and couldn't understand what would come after, it was explained. This has a lot of triggers and is a hard thing to read so please look at the warnings.
There were a good amount of spelling errors and the wrong words used, but it was a good book and I'm kind of mad I have to wait to read the next one.

This is an absolute 𝙈𝙐𝙎𝙏 𝙍𝙀𝘼𝘿❤️How can I even rate a book that has captured my heart so completely? I'm utterly at a loss for words. The story resonated with me in unexpected ways, and I can only aspire to honor it with my review.

Jessica, your writing is enchanting. The characters you've created are truly remarkable. This book is infused with such profound energy that it has left my thoughts racing.

The chemistry between Eren & Gen is absolutely captivating, & I can’t help but express my awe without giving anything away🌶️😉.

Gen's journey of growth & her ability to conquer challenges really touched my heart; her resilience & brilliance are truly timeless. Eren embodies everything you desire in a morally grey mmc. While I sometimes wish I could knock some sense into him, I still find him to be nearly flawless. And let's not forget Otar—I'm completely enchanted by him & crave more of his presence!! Agh, I am so obsessed with this series & will be recommending it to everyone who hasn't read it yet.

Thank you so much For the ARC opportunity Jessica. I will be unwhole & broken until book 3. 😭😫

8/10 ⭐️ 3+/5 🌶️

Follow Genevieve on her journey to find who she is. After surviving torture and mutilation at the hands of another, she is brought to her long lost father who happens to be the Dark King. She must now take her place as heir to the throne and navigate the politics, culture, people, and new found freedom.

Apparently this is book 2 in a series and while at times I could’ve benefited from the backstory, I followed this story without any problems. I loved watching a broken FMC find her voice and follow her heart to open up to her fathers love and explore the option to love another. I did not expect the sudden twists and turns that happened. Once you reach part two- YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT THIS BOOK DOWN. So make sure your schedule is cleared out.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and will 100% be looking for the next in the series. Highly recommend to fantasy lovers.

This story takes you on a journey of overcoming trauma, finding new hope and love, friendship and recovery, as well as loss, heartbreak, and devastation. This story is a rollercoaster of a ride you won't want to get off.

I'm screaming! This book was beyond incredible! I did not want it to end. It was such a rollercoaster of a ride and the ending, well really the last half of the book, had me shook. The author did a brilliant job with this one. I experienced so many emotions while reading, I'm still trying to recover, but I can't get this one out of my head. I don't know how I'm going to wait for the next one. I need answers, I need to know what happens next. If you haven't already, you need to start reading this series. It does not disappoint.

The MFC Gen has gone through more trauma and torment than you can even imagine, and even then she keeps going. She's determined to find and keep her sister safe, even at her own expense. Gen really struggles in this one, but her change of scenery and the people she has around her helps her to recover. She has so much growth and gains so much in this book, yet also loses and goes through so much. The heartbteak, the terror, the everything that she feels you can feel through her as the reader. I'm so proud of our girl, yet so sad and sorry for her. I need to know what is going to happen to her, because the way she left off, I need to know!

The MMC Eren is to absolutely die for. He has definitely become one of my top favorite MMCs. I really liked him in the first book, but this one just sealed the deal. His charm, quirkiness, wit, care for Gen (even though it's hard for him to admit), just owns my heart and all my feels. I think that he had so much character growth in this one. And he just constantly made me swoon. I love in this one that we got to see some things from his perspective. He also is a little sh*t sometimes, and I wanted to yell at him and school him. What he did at the end though, ugh I cannot wait for more!

Can we talk about Otar?!!
I think he has become one of my absolute favorite companions of any book. He is so down right hilarious. The things he does and says in this book had me rolling at times. He is also so charming in his own way. His protection and admiration of Gen warms my heart. I can't spoil the part in my review, but when Otar learns about his gift and his dedication to it and Gen makes my heart so happy and welled me up with happy tears and giggles. I want my own Otar. Also his tiffs with Eren just enlighten the comical relief in this book. Overall, such an amazing character, so glad he plays a more significant part in this book.

The story line in this book gets so much more juicier. You think you know one thing and then you learn different. You think you can trust somebody, but can you? If I were Gen I would never trust anyone again. We learn so much more about the lands, the threats, the powers, and everything in between in this one. But yet still the author leaves us on the tips of our toes at the end of this one. Begging for the next one, for more of this incredible story. I rarely ever feel that the second book rivals the first, especially since the first one was great on it's own, but this one is marvelous and exceeds my expectations, and they were high to begin with. Overall this one will live rent free in my head, and I'm sure the next one will too.

Tropes:

• Dark Romantasy
• Strong MFC
• Enemies to lovers vibes
• Coming into one's power
• Found family
• Trauma rep
• Creature companion
• Dark and charming MMC
• Touch her and find out vibes

I really enjoyed the premise of this series and the vibes. This series felt similar to The Plated Prisoner series with the political drama and cruelty. I loved the fast-pace and easy world building. The writing style and plot were captivating.

*** spoilers below ***
Things that frustrated me were mainly in the second half of book 2. When Gen finally reunites with her sister, she yells at her about being with an elf and then hardly spends time with her. It felt strange because that was the sole reason she left the human lands was to save her.

I really liked Gen and Eren in book 1. So much so that I immediately downloaded book 2. But for many reasons, I didn’t mesh well with either of them in book 2. SAD Eren kept sleeping around and I felt like he was throwing it in Gen’s face especially with Gen’s cousin. Gen gets pregnant (not my favorite trope) and then she gets kidnapped and severely tortured and the demons tear in her abdomen and “eat” her baby. Gen is found dead, but she comes back to life in 3 days’ time with the powers of the dark flame. Her reincarnation was not explained very well. The second half of book 2 just didn’t vibe with me BUT I know it does with a lot of readers so if these are your vibes, please don’t hesitate to read this series. As I said, the writing style is amazing, and I loved the pace.

In short, these books are compelling. An emotional rollercoaster full of political/court intrigue, personal trauma, and healing. I liked these a lot, but didn’t love book 2 as much as I hoped. Great books, but I’m not sure if I will continue the series. I will definitely read more from this author.

I love this book, @authorjessicaanndisciacca has done it again, she has never let us down! Let me count the ways:

1. Otar was on fire. His one-liners, snark and devotion made him into the little demon of my heart. I love him forever.

2. The evolution of Gen from the broken shell of a woman she had become in the light court to the confident woman who took her life back and used all that feminine rage to her advantage to secure her place in the dark court.

3. Erendrial is a morally grey shadow daddy who used his sexuality and cunning mind to claw his way up the ranks to become the general and spymaster to the king. He never apologizes for what he had to do and uses his reputation as a shield to protect his heart from feelings that threaten everything he thought he wanted and needed. I loved seeing the evolution of his character.

4. The spice was spicing. 🌶️🌶️🌶️

5. The plot twist, holy shit! I almost had an aneurysm, but I decided to trust Jessica's vision and the twists and turns just kept coming right up to the very end.

6. That cliffhanger though!!!!! I was glad to see that Jessica is hard at work on book 3 because I don't think I can handle holding on to the edge for too long LOL

✨Personally, I have no triggers, but if you do then you may want to check out the list. I won't list them because I think it would spoil the story.✨

I stayed up all night to read this book and the emotional devastation left me in pieces.

We get to see Gen overcome the trauma she faced at the Light Court as she embraces her growing power, learns to fight and defend herself, navigates court politics and her human feelings, as well as her new expectations as heir to the Dark Throne. It’s dark, sexy, and brutal, but filled with amazing banter and some laughter.

Gen is the Fiercest FMC and seriously, no one deserves the brutality she faces, but she always comes back more powerful than before. She is a force to reckon with and I cannot wait to see her character grow and change the magical world as she embraces the extent of her full power.

Eren makes so many mistakes when it comes to Gen and I’m not his biggest fan, yet, but their banter and chemistry is *chef’s kiss!* He’s another man on that “too little, too late” train and he’ll live with many regrets because of it.

Otar, the creepy black skinned demon with yellow eyes, well he is the friend everyone needs! I laugh so much at his naughty escapades. The way he loves and protects Gen is so incredibly sweet. Of all the men in her life, this one never lets her down. I don’t have a single bad thing to say about him or Levos.

The betrayal in this sequel will leave you kicking, screaming and sobbing. I’m not even being dramatic… this was so intense and brutal! I’m still wrecked and the anticipation for the next installment has me going a little crazy over here. I am OBSESSED with this series!

I think I enjoyed this one a bit better than the first one. Though, "enjoyed" is still too nice a word for that.
Probably the main reason I found this one better is the developing relationship of the main couple, despite the ending, yes, and the fact there're considerably fewer elements like those which felt basically taken out of acotar in book one.
I reckon it was pretty decent in terms of making you go on with the reading, as I was determined to find out what happens next. One major plot twist almost got me crying my eyes out, I'm still kind of raw with emotions, considering the loss...I also don't exactly understand the necessity of that particular development of events. I mean, I guess, for the awakening of the dark flames and for Eren to finally act, damnit!!!
More than that I loved that we saw the gentle side of Eren's showing, but the best character in the book is Otar, you won't convince me otherwise:)
What was almost obvious from the start is the betrayal...And! I kind of guessed the outcome (I mean the very last moment of the book) right when the talk of the tournament began, let's see who'll win;)
A thing I didn't find enjoyable is that I honestly couldn't quite like Gen that much. She is a good FL with many boxes check out, but I was irritated with her constant personality changes. And I get the whole "life and experience changes a person", but I simply couldn't find this change. What I mean is, I needed her inner transformation to be more gradual, her inner feelings to maybe shown more plainly, I needed to see her experiences from her point of view in more detail, if that makes sense.

This is book two of her Dark Throne series. The first book leaves you begging to know what happens next and so does this one!

It picks up where book one left off so you do need to read Awakening the Dark Throne first! (Out now on KU) I’m blown away by the way Jessica writes! This is one of my fave romantasy series this year! I’m seriously OBSESSED!

Not only are you so invested with Gen, the bad a$$ FMC, but she makes you fall in love with the world they are living in (the dark alfar’s land). Her world building is top notch and not confusing! You really feel transported there! Eren the MMC will seriously become your new favorite book BF! I’m smiling over here just thinking of certain scenes, he’s the sweetest but only for her 😍

Also, all the secondary characters are just perfection! Otar, a vicious creature from the rift is hysterical! He’s kinda a sweet, Smeagol, type of creature that is so funny! Gen binds him to her life after she resurrects him and has him do her bidding!

Trust me when I say I couldn’t out this down! I had to know what happened! I was writing my friend and Jessica through saying WTF! I’m not okay! 😂 Jessica will hit you with all of the emotions and take you on an adventure! I loved this book so much, I it wish I didn’t have to wait for the next one now 🤣

Awakening the Dark Throne was absolutely incredible in every single way. Somehow Awakening the Dark Flame was even better!!! I could not stop reading these books...so much so I read the two in a few days time. The characters, the creatures, the places; all so filled with beautiful imagery and stunning finesse! Not only did I find Awakening the Dark Flame immensely full of amazing fantasy and magic, I found that it touched my heart and soul. There were many times I laughed out loud and gasped in surprise and wonder, and many times, tears sprang to my eyes. By the end, the tears were altogether flowing freely. As an author myself, to feel all of these emotions while reading a book, is EXACTLY want I look for and want in a story, and exactly what we authors are trying to achieve ourselves. I am so taken with Jessica's writing in every way! What a powerful and incredible writer she is. I LOVE these books! The highest of praise for "The Dark Throne Series"! I am INCREDIBLY excited and look eagerly forward to the next one. Read them, friends! You will never have a single regret! FANTASTIC!

💬I absolutely devoured this book! It made me laugh and even brought tears to my eyes. Jessica’s creativity shines in these stories, and I can't wait for more!

“Be strong. Be brave. Don’t let your weakness show. Bury your emotions. Be more alfar than human.”

I loved loved loved Awakening The Dark Throne so much I could not wait to read this book. The beginning of Awakening The Dark Flame does have more world building but picks up really fast once we learn more about the dark court and it had me in a chokehold.

I loved the characters so much more in this book. Erendrial was my favorite from the last and we got to see so much more of him, his backstory, his personality. I absolutely adore everything about him and so happy he was such a main character.

Otar, oh my lord. Never in my life did I think I would fall in love with a spiked, yellow eyes, murderous unhinged creature, yet here we are. His wit and humor and dialogue had me cracking up throughout this story and I could not get enough of him.

I adored Gen in the last book and I while I still love her, I think she is one that has had the most development, loss, change, and hardships that I have seen in once character. What this character is put through will make you go through all of the emotions and more.

The banter between Erendrial and Gen had me dying. So many times I caught myself laughing out loud and I loved it, I love them together so much. The dialogue between them, both serious and playful, and everything they go through together will forever be a top favorite of mine.

This book is fast paced, the story is well thought out and kept me interested the whole time. I laughed, I cried, I gasped at the twist and had my jaw on the floor. I think I loved this book more than the first one and I didn’t think that was going to be possible. I loved everything about it so much, Jessica did a great job creating this story and I can’t wait to see what happens in book three.

The release date is September 17th, I can’t wait for you guys to read this one.

Thank you so much to the author Jessica Ann Disciacca and to Dark Flame Society for letting me read this book!

That cliffhanger!!! Man this was just as good as Awakening the Dark Throne!!

This book takes you on a journey of Gen's arrival to get new home, her new title of Princess and her father. She not only gains a father, but an uncle and three cousins. Two out of the three cousins, Vena and Thoreon, are kind to her and help her find her footing. The third cousin, Icici, is awful and mean. Her Uncle Rythlayn appears to also love and support her. Welcoming her with open arms. Her charge, and Ambassador to the Dark Alfar, Erendrial Lyklor is not just a pain in her side, but her comfort. He helps her overcome her fears and helps her heal from her trauma she had to endure while in the Light Alfar's court. She slowly falls in love with him but does not realize she has until she comes into her power, which happens to come when she is with him. She becomes pregnant by Lyklor and is super excited but does not tell him. They go out on a hunt for a creature seen in the forest that regenerates, and while cleaning up, she gets captured... And sadness overcomes the Kingdom.

Three suitors are to compete for Gen's hand in marriage, a royal custom that she does not agree with. But Lyklor also throws his hand in the ring ...

I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!

2024:
“The greatest power comes from surviving the darkest of nights."
What a wild ride.
I loved everything about this book. Start to finish.
From the moment Gen steps into the Dark Court and she has to get her bearings whilst trying to deal with her trauma - the feels are level 10 activated.
This book just continues to build to a crescendo - never letting up on intrigue, action, and plot twists.
Some things I saw coming and easily.
Other things I didn't and wow. Weren't they just a knife to the heart?!
My love for Eren as my favourite character definitely continued to grow. I didn't expect the book to switch to dual POV, and I LOVED IT!!!
Connecting with Eren on that way was 100% everything I needed from this story.
I adored the moments Eren shared with Gen's Father, the King. That ending...superb. And all because of that relationship.
I have no idea where this series is headed, and I think that's great. It keeps the mystery alive. I can't wait to see where Disciacca takes our heads - and our hearts - next.

This series is really good but please read your trigger warnings- it is daaaaaark fantasy. There is a strong mental health rep aspect that deals with PTSD, sexual abuse and torture. This is not a full list of triggers so please read them prior to reading this series.

That being said, I really enjoyed these books. They are darker than I typically read and I also happen to be reading the Lady of Darkness series in tandem, so my life is ALL darkness currently lol. I really like the different magics and unique creatures in this story. The characters are well written and relatable.

Beware- this series is devastating! My jaw was on the floor from several things that happened. It lifts you up and then slams you back down. I'm ready for book 3 because I need to know what happens next. I hope it is in the works! If you like dark fantasy, this series is for you!

Thank you so much, Jessica, for allowing me to read and review your books! I can't wait to see who wins!

I was worried that Awakening The Dark Flame might not match the brilliance of the first book, which I loved so much it felt like coming down from a high. But Jessica Ann Disciacca has delivered another outstanding read that will leave you emotionally wrecked and craving the next installment.

The book is packed with twists, emotional highs and lows, and magical drama that keeps you hooked. Genevieve's reunion with Lily is intense and heartbreaking, and while I missed Otar’s witty remarks, the serious tone suits the high stakes.

Genevieve’s internal struggles and Eren’s protective moments add depth, and the revelation of her “gift” is a shocking twist. The symbolic elements and brutal cliffhanger only heighten the suspense and anticipation for the next book.

In short, Awakening The Dark Flame is a compelling, emotional rollercoaster full of magical intrigue and personal drama. If you love fantasy with high stakes and deep emotions, this book is a must-read.

Once again Jessica has written a phenomenal story with themes of strength, independence and belief in one’s self. Gen, the FMC, has cemented herself on my list of absolutely amazing female main characters. She is intelligent, fierce, and sassy. There is a lovely found family aspect to this series. I was also really excited by the multiple POVs in this story and getting into the MMCs head a bit more. Once again we are left of a bit of a cliffhanger and desperate to know what will happen next (I definitely have my preferences).

Highlights:
✨Fierce, Strong, Independent FMC
✨Broody yet supportive MMC
✨Light v Dark
✨Multiple POV
✨Found Family

Favorite Quotes: ““Every moment. I am truly sorry for what you had to endure to get here, but it is in the past. It doesn’t define you. You will rise from the ashes of this fire into who you were truly meant to be,”

“The greatest power comes from surviving the darkest of nights. This is your darkest night.”

Thank you to the author for this advanced copy. My opinions are my own.

Awakening the Dark Flame was an absolute feast! I devoured every single word and still wanted more. Seriously, once I started, there was no putting it down! This series has easily solidified its place as one of my all-time favorites, and this sequel? Perfection!!!!

Watching Genevieve heal from her trauma and adjust to life as a princess was such a wild ride—dark, exciting, and packed with all the feels. And then there’s Eren. His sharp, commanding presence and his softer side with Genevieve made him an absolute gem. I was glued to every interaction. The way he stood by her side, helping her conquer her fears - just made me look forward to his moments.

And let me just scream about those heart-crushing chapters for a sec… I could not believe what Genevieve had to go through. I was holding my breath, and my heart? Totally shattered. The emotional stakes are through the roof in this one.

The ending though? Jessica has mastered the art of the “happy cliffhanger” (if that’s even a thing!). She leaves you smiling but also crying for the next book like, “WHAT NOW?! How do I survive the wait?” I’m obsessed and literally counting the days until the next book drops. I NEED IT NOW!

If you haven’t started this series, what are you even waiting for?!

This book was so addicting. I don’t know how Jessica does it but she keeps me completely absorbed in Genevieve’s story.

Just like with the first book, I couldn’t put this one down and finished in about 1 day. If you thought Awakening The Dark Throne was dark, just know this book takes it even further. Please check the content warning before reading. There’s a lot of happy and funny moments too though. This book had me smiling, laughing, and even crying at times, and it takes a lot for a book to get me to cry.

The story picks up right where book 1 ended & I loved seeing Genevieve heal from the horrors she endured in book 1. The way Jessica writes about trauma is just amazing, it’s so raw and real.

Otar honestly ended up stealing the show, at least for me. He’s definitely one of my favorite characters now and I love the unique, slightly weird bond he shares with Genevieve.

After finishing this book, I had to take some time to process it. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking, and I can’t wait for the next one. If you are a fan of dark fantasy, I highly recommend!!!

My obsession with Jessica’s writing is at its peak.
She has an amazing character development, plot and so much more. My emotional attachment to Genevieve’s story is unreal and I cannot wait for book three. I want to know more and cry my eyes out more.
AtDF has so many levels to it, just like AtDT, this new release has surpassed what I could have imagined!! This book is emotional, spicy and so easy to read.. no seriously, I read it in two hours on a road trip lol. I couldn’t get my head out of the pages. I will continue to wait impatiently for book three and order myself a copy *hopefully I can get one signed* as it does come out on my birthday.

If you want a new ADDICTIVE book, you should read Awakening the Dark Throne, and then read this absolute masterpiece of a novel.

Thank you Jessica, for sharing your beautiful work ❤️

“"You were never broken. A little banged up, but never broken."

I read the first book of this series earlier this year and fell in love with the authors writing and the world she created. It was five star read for me and game me the same feelings as ACOTAR. This book was everything I hoped it would be! The world is pure magic and the plot kept me on my toes the whole time. There is also a unique magic system and so many mythical creatures! I love that so many things happen that I didn’t see coming. Just when I thought i knew what would happen I would get hit with a new surprise. We get to see a lot of the character we were introduced to in the first book and learn more about them and the dark court. I did like several of the new character and Otar has become one of my favorites! This book left off on a killer cliffhanger and I immediately need book 3!

OMG!!! Wowowow!! This book was freaking fantastic!! I was so excited when I got this book, I literally let out a big "squeeee!!!"

This is the second book in The Dark Throne series and I absolutely loved the first one too! Awakening the Dark Throne has been one of the most memorable books I've read this year and I was dying for the second book! Well, the second book did not disappoint and now I am dying to get my hands on the next one!! I mean, seriously, that ending!! There were so many twists in this one that I did not see coming!

I could gush about this book forever, I am loving this series so much! A demon named Otar ended up being one of my favourite characters in the book, he's completely chaotic and I adore him! I cannot wait to find out what happens next in this series!!

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

And once again the queen has done it.
I thought it couldn't get any better than book 1....I was wrong.

Oh wow where do I begin?
I loved getting to experience more of Eren's life, his personality, his strengths and weaknesses and the way his mind works (thank you very very much. Iykyk).

Gen is so broken. She's perfectly imperfect. That girl has been through so much I have no idea how she's still standing with her head held high.

I heart is in shambles! This book wrecked me so much. I desperately need book 3.

Like book 1, once again halfway through I guessed the big reveal BUT I only guessed to a certain point. I was very honestly surprised by part of it.

Fanfreakingtastic series! Please please please try this!
