Following the cliffhanger of the first novel, Noah seeks to reunite with his friends and undo the damage that Dr. Destructo is causing.

The illustrations are still fun and spot on, and most of the jokes land, especially with more villains to banter with. My one complaint is how this ending ignores all the points made in the first novel about a super-powered populace. Granted, this is a book written with some Dog Man levels of silly humor (or maybe more Super Diaper Baby), but it does feel weird to drop the central conceit of the first novel that the super stone is leaking power, thereby creating more powerful people and escalating "super brain" only to turn it into a shrug of "yeah it's fine." Most readers probably won't mind, but it took a star off for me. Maybe if the Cheneys do another novel they'll address that elephant in the room. It probably has invisibility powers like Rat.

As with the first book in this series, I think this would be great for reluctant readers. There's tons of action, but also a lot of heart and a great story. If you have a child who only loves graphic novels (which, I think they're great, don't get me wrong), then this series may be a good "gateway" book to the novel format. It has A LOT of amazing illustrations throughout that perfectly tie in with the text, but there are also some pages that are primarily text.

It's neat that the books are a collaboration of a husband-and-wife team.

My son and I had such a fun time reading this one! Hoping this duo keeps writing more! This series has been a perfect blend of graphic novel and chapter book. The illustrations did an excellent job keeping my son's attention and I found myself peeking ahead after he went to bed.
