In a world where magic potions can manipulate the heart, Cassie's been played. Betrayed by an ex-husband who bewitched her into love and blinded her to his deceptions, she's now gun-shy and aggravated.
Life doesn't pause for the weary. Cassie is thrust into a liaison role with the elves—a capricious race infamous for abducting mortals for their novelty.
As she navigates a labyrinth of enchantment, intrigue, and unwelcome surprises, Cassie must confront her past while fighting to not lose herself again. In a world where chaos reigns and trust is fragile, Cassie's biggest challenge might be to reclaim her own heart.
Cassie’s held a special place in my heart since we first discovered what a louse her ex was. Aiden was just fascinating to me. He’s a bit of a dichotomy, being both a fun-loving prankster and feeling a deep sense of duty and responsibility to his people. At this point I think it’s safe to say I love these characters; I love this series. There is something so charming in the middle of the chaos these supernaturals create. And while also being incredibly funny, these stories are also a mirror on our confused and confusing world. I can’t wait to see what the authors come up with for this intrepid band of heroes to face next. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
This is book five of the Monster Magic Dating Service series and the main characters are Cassie (Cassandra) Quinn, a human who has discovered an untapped magical power within herself recently, especially when having to deal as the elf liaison amid the recent freedom the elves have to come to this realm, causing no end of mischief, and Aiden Brighthand, the Elf King’s son, who made the deal with her back in Dream. The deal allowed innocent humans to be released back to Earth and the elves could now visit under Cassie’s supervision. Her sister Roma (Andromeda) Quinn, who deals with monster PR, is due to be married to the Goblin King, Bran, and Cassie has agreed to do all the wedding planning and organisation. It has to be carried out on Fellmere Island, as their sister Shay’s vision showed she would die of she got married anywhere else! Aiden, meanwhile, is getting a bit bored of the perfection of his home, Alfheim, unlike the ugliness of Earth and all its imperfections. He enjoys winding up Martellus, the Troll King and child of Dream, who has the most say in what changes Dream would allow, but it is Bran who is actually the king of Dream. Since Dream was awakened, it has become dangerous to traverse and not as entertaining as when it slept.
A new influx of humans have made Alfheim their home, which Aiden sees as the best way to preserve soe of Earth’s inhabitants, if the Formless Ones, the elves’ ancient enemies but also cousins, extend their foothold on the planet. They strip and destroy worlds before moving on to their next target! They have a hold over Franklin, Cassie’s former husband, who used her and bewitched her into loving him, making her blind to what he was doing, until she managed to break free. He made a bargain with them after Cassie’s sister exiled him from Earth, allowing them to possess him, and Cassie is a target for the Formless Ones, whilst also an attraction for Aiden. She is untrained in using these powers and this leaves her at a disadvantage. Franklin is planning to trade her to the Formlesss Ones, shifting his possession from him to her, something Aiden will not allow to happen if he can help it! Even Lady Luck (Fortuna) comes to visit him to inform him Cassie’s fortune is about to shift. Aiden travels via Dream to Earth, using the pact sealed by Cassie’s word, with his horse Cu, a magical beast who can appear as a dog whilst on Earth, or as the mists or clouds themselves, coming back when required. He has come for his own reasons, but also in answer to her latest request to an elf causing mischief on the beach and tells her she must appear in front of his father, the Elf King, to have her liaison role made official, so elves will all listen to her!
A side detour takes them all to MDS, the monster dating service office, where cat goddess Halo doesn’t look all that happy to be dragged along by Cathy, as his sister Matilda also tags along after almost causing a crash in the street. Roma used this service and Shay had suggested Cassie use it too, even though she is still deeply hurt by Franklin’s treatment of her and doesn’t quite feel ready for love! Franklin took her sister’s magic, allowing his fellow alchemists to siphoned it from her, hurting her deeply and even tried to force a threesome between them. Aiden is surprised Bran allows him to live, so he has decided to find him and bring him to justice. When he flies Cassie to the island to sort the wedding details, they are met by the being Dream, who wants to lure Cassie away to supposed train her in her new powers, but nothing with Dream is every without a cost! There is another wedding to prepare, this one with no fuss at all. Cathy and Roma want to invite the alchemists to the wedding, to have a meeting between them and the council to hopefully avoid war, but nothing will ever be easy when these two sides face each other. Aiden uses his magic to assist with various parts of the wedding planning that Cassie was struggling with, such as accommodation and even flowers, leaving her finding his presence a comfort and also an attraction growing between them. Aiden has fallen for her. She is so different from elven women and her untapped power draws him in. He wants to help her in any way he can and even allows her to draw up a list of rules for the wedding, for all the elves to comply with, so the big day can’t be ruined! She needs to learn to trust again, especially where her heart is concerned and at times tars Aiden with the same brush as other elves she has dealt with. Unfairly! The wedding will have chaos abound, as monsters, alchemists and elves mix together and old fears are raised as a new alliance is formed. Cassie will find her new powers absolutely necessary for the battle the celebration soon becomes and she will find Aiden right by her side, ready to protect her with his life and also offer her something very rare, as she realises maybe she does have a future to look forward to at long last!
I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This is an interesting story with Cassie, who has just recently become aware of her magic and Aiden whom is an elf that is aware of Cassie's magic and shares his homeland with Cassie, Alfheim, now that humans are allowed. There are other characters such as Luck, or Ms. Fortuna whom imparts some knowledge that may be useful for both. The antagonists, the Formless Ones, may cause some challenges as they do not have the same respect for Earth or humans as the elves do. Needless to say, it's up to Cassie to plan a wedding fit for royalty on an island that can provide for all manner of beings from Trolls to Goblins. Cassie's thoughts and struggles added a fun, almost human perspective to the story. In attempting not to add spoilers, this is a fun read with characters easy to relate to.
As each book is about a different couple is this world where monsters and humans exist I could be read as standalone, but there is a need for background of some of the characters interacted with and relationship between all the girls in the series so best if read in order. Dual perspective but for me feel like female characters are main characters of the two romantic leads and the series is fun, romantic, clean, enjoyable and supernatural adventure which began as dating service from monsters in book 1. I enjoy reading the books, the series and the concept.

Cassie is a human who just discovered her magic and Aiden is an elf. This is a fun paranormal romance with quirky characters, and an entertaining storyline with action, drama, chaos, magic, and humor. Evaluating the Elf is book five and a fun addition to the Midlife Magic Dating Service series. I can't wait to read the next book by these talented authors. Elf human romance. Lots of intrigue. Couldn’t put this book down. Although a lot of it did seem to be about planning a wedding the romance made those wedding planning moments even more interesting. That ending I definitely wasn’t expecting! Would definitely recommend reading this series!
I really enjoy this series and can't wait for the need installment! This one was filled with elves and fae, Minotaur and vampire, prankster and goblin. Kings all and with their love by their sure they will conquer evil.
3.9 quick serial read, (n17 sex) romance, violence
Can be read alone but better as part if the series for background and backstory. Some humorous moments, romance, self defence & revenge, magic, saving the world from despots conflict.
This series is so creative. It’s very easy to get re-immersed into this world. Hard to sometimes figure out who the bad guys are except it’s never the monsters. Loved Cassie and Aiden’s journey. Not quite complete. Looking forward to the next book.
I received a free copy to review. Evaluating the Elf is a sweet paranormal romance that doesn’t contain suspense. This is Cassie and Aiden’s journey to find love. The author does a good job including characters from previous books. If you are looking to relax with an easy, light hearted read, this is the book for you.
L.A. Boruff's "Evaluating the Elf," the fifth installment in the Monster Magic Dating Service series, is a spellbinding blend of magic, romance, and personal growth that truly resonated with me. As someone who loves narratives where chaos reigns and trust is fragile, this book delivered an engaging and heartfelt story that kept me captivated from beginning to end.
Cassie's journey is one of resilience and rediscovery. Betrayed by an ex-husband who manipulated her emotions with magic potions, Cassie’s wary and aggravated demeanor is both relatable and compelling. Her experiences with deception and heartache create a depth to her character that makes her struggles and triumphs deeply personal and moving. I found myself rooting for her to reclaim her sense of self and find genuine love.
The plot takes a thrilling turn as Cassie is assigned to liaise with the elves, a whimsical and unpredictable race known for their mischievous nature. The world-building in "Evaluating the Elf" is rich and immersive, drawing me into a labyrinth of enchantment and intrigue. The elves' capricious behavior adds a layer of suspense and excitement, making Cassie's journey through their realm both challenging and exhilarating.
Cassie’s interactions with the elves are fraught with tension and unexpected twists, perfectly capturing the theme of fragile trust. The constant balancing act between maintaining her own integrity and navigating the elves' unpredictable world kept me on the edge of my seat. Boruff skillfully weaves elements of magic and romance, creating a story that is as enchanting as it is emotional.
One of the standout aspects of this book is Cassie's personal growth. Her journey from a woman scorned and wary to someone who learns to trust and love again is beautifully portrayed. The themes of self-discovery and empowerment are woven seamlessly into the narrative, making Cassie's story one of inspiration and hope. I especially appreciated how she confronts her past, not only to find closure but to reclaim her heart and her sense of agency.
The romantic elements in "Evaluating the Elf" are both sweet and complex. The chemistry between Cassie and her new love interest is palpable, and their evolving relationship adds a heartfelt dimension to the story. The romance is not just a subplot but an integral part of Cassie's journey, highlighting the importance of genuine connection and trust.
L.A. Boruff's writing is engaging and evocative, bringing to life a world where magic and reality intertwine. The pacing is well-balanced, allowing for both intense moments of suspense and quieter, introspective scenes that deepen the reader's connection to the characters.
For anyone who enjoys stories where chaos and magic create a backdrop for personal and romantic growth, "Evaluating the Elf" is a must-read. Cassie's story of overcoming betrayal, navigating an enchanting but dangerous world, and finding true love is both captivating and heartwarming. Dive into this magical adventure and let L.A. Boruff's masterful storytelling enchant you.

CASSIE is fuming. There is an elf singing and causing the gulls to attack humans. When she finally gets the elf's attention she tells her to let Aiden know she wants to speak with him. She allowed the elves access to the human realm but she didn't plan on being a babysitter. Aiden is in his realm thinking of Cassie when Lady Luck arrives to tell him what Cassie's ex husband is planning. She needs his help. He will not allow her ex to sell her to the formless ones so he can get her power. So he heads to the earth realm and Cassie. He takes her to his realm where she needs to meet the King and be formally assigned her position. Then after conferring her title on her he hands his crown to his son Aiden. As he is helping her in the earth realm the more he hears what Cassie's ex did to her the angrier he becomes. He wants her. He has been drawn to her and loves her. Then he helps with the wedding plans. Then war starts. Will they survive? Will Cassie realize that Aiden is not like her ex? A beautiful story full of wonder and excitement.

As in other books in this series, questions are raised about who the true Monsters are - especially as those whose alleged goal is to protect and guide things seem so ready to fight or sacrifice others - whether for entertainment or just on general principles.
The MIIB men in brown suits are an ongoing and distressing addition to the weddings Cassie manages to guide in planning.
As spectacles, alliances, slaughter and betrayals collide, what powers are strongest and who and what might survive?
A great series to check out and see what happens next - even the seer cannot see or predict all.
Pro tip, read all the previous books before this one!
While this book definitely was one that pushes the over arching series arc, I still found my self invested in the main characters. Cassie is getting over what happened to her and Aiden is learning to aspects of his own character.
I loved the patience and warmth despite the scars of the past. Cassie refuses to play victim and I’m here for it.
This does leave more questions than answers. There is a nice happy for now that doesn’t push too hard, which I believe is apt for Cassie’s situation.

I’m so glad that this book was released! I really loved the Monster Dating Service series, and this one is based on Cassie who is helping plan her sister’s wedding. She also is the liaison between the humans and the elves – specifically with Aiden who is now the King. As she and Aiden work together, they start having feelings for each other, but she is still bitter from what her ex did to her.
Thankfully when things go wrong at the wedding, she is able to use her new powers to stop the fighting and save her relationship with Aiden. Lovveeddd this book, and I cant wait to read the next book!

Book 5 continues somewhat after the end of Book 4 as the elves have come for their sojourn on the Earth. It would be advisable to start with Book 1 and read sequentially to get the full impact and understanding of the story, characters, and universe. Now, from Callie’s and Aiden’s POV, the drama continues. A grand, OTT wedding, followed by an attack by enemies, Exciting action, and tender romances. The promise of another book to follow.
Book 5 of Monster Magic Dating Service Series and this is Cassie and Aiden's story. Cassie has to overcome past hurts to find love with Aiden. This is a poignant story of overcoming your past in order to have a future. I love these stories from L.A. Boruff.

This is the story of Cassie & Aiden. Lots of drama, intrigue, and personal growth in this one besides the usual trouble. And all this in between planning a wedding. I laughed and rolled my eyes at time but it was entertaining to watch it all play out as I rooted for Cassie & Aiden.
WOW....So much going on here. This woman is a dynamo with a project and she sure does have some horrid luck with men...well past men. Love this writer, love her entertaining stories and larger than life characters. RECOMMENDED PARANORMAL WRITER.

I rarely have high expectations of romantic comedies and initially I felt this would follow the same sweet but funny vein. I was pleasantly surprised to find such well written and likeable characters. Aiden has much more depth than most MMCs in books like this.
