Luna Battle: The Game

Rate this book
Elara has lived her life believing she was abandoned as a baby, only to be forced into servitude after the Alpha of her pack cruelly stripped her of her wolf. Enduring years of abuse and mistreatment, she seizes a desperate chance for freedom by entering the Luna Battle—a prestigious competition hosted by the royal brothers, King Darius and Prince Kellan, who seek their future Lunas.

Though Elara lies on her application, convinced she won't be chosen, fate has other plans. She soon finds herself among the fourteen contenders at the royal palace, each vying for the coveted position. As the trials progress, Elara’s unexpected strength and resilience bring her closer to victory, but her presence as a wolfless slave stirs resentment among the others.

Amidst the fierce competition, Elara's heart begins to waver as she develops feelings for both the King and the Prince. If she wins, the hardest choice will still await choosing between the two.

Indie author of Hot Fiction. Billiejo Priestley was born in 1987 in Leeds, she currently still lives in Leeds, UK and is a mum.

She focuses primarily on writing and publishing work than other career aspects. Billiejo writes books that are often taboo, dark and forbidden romance varieties.

Subjects that many steer away from through fear of others views. Her books are not for the faint of heart. Most feature aspects of BDSM, Polyamory, and often life issues, including mental health, addiction and abuse.

She writes things that can be seen as triggers, but her books also give lessons, teach people the signs of bad relationships. Reading is something that should broaden our horizons and open our minds.

Reading was never intended to easy, straightforward and reflect our own lives. Reading was intended to teach us things. Show us an insight into others lives, even if fictional, so when the day comes, we meet someone like the characters, we can relate. This is why many of Billiejo’s book features taboo subjects.

TW: SA, Abuse, Murder

Overall:
3/5 story
1/5 editing

This book requires some editing. There is random capitalization, lack of consistency with the dialogue and imagery, and repetitive use of words in multiple simultaneous sentences.

The story building is jarring. The first few chapters bounce around quite a bit so you’re not really connecting to the main character or the story that is unfolding.

Overall, it’s very stilted. I would like to see this book edited and remove a lot of the fluff. Then add back in some actual storytelling to create a bond between reader and main character. I felt like most of this book is me being talked at rather than falling into the story. There is potential for this book, but it’s just not quite there. It feels like a draft which makes it impossible to enjoy fully.

"Emotions are there simply to make you realize how something has impacted you. Whether it is happy, sad, angry, or disappointed. They are guidelines; they are not meant to be the weapon."
This quote lives in my head rent-free! 🧠✨

Now, where to begin with this book? The storyline was thoroughly enjoyable—a unique blend of a modern dating competition infused with werewolves 🐺 and fantasy ✨. It was refreshing and kept me hooked from start to finish. 📖

Final Thoughts

Despite the editing flaws, I loved this book and will definitely pick up Book 2. 📚 The characters, plot twists, and world-building kept me invested, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. 🥳 If you’re a fan of werewolf fantasies 🐺✨ with emotional depth and strong heroines 💃, give this a try (just be prepared for some proofreading hiccups)! 🚨

The Luna Battle: The Game by Billiejo Priestly is an emotional rollercoaster that I almost didn’t finish—but I’m so glad I did! At the beginning, I found myself unsure if I could get through the heavy themes of abuse and Elara’s heartbreaking past. However, as I kept reading, I realized that this story is so much more than just its dark beginning. It’s a powerful journey of survival, resilience, and love that completely won me over.

Elara’s transformation from a wolfless slave to a strong contender in the Luna Battle is nothing short of inspiring. Despite the odds stacked against her, she pushes through with a determination that had me rooting for her the whole way. The competition itself is intense and full of twists, keeping me on the edge of my seat as the trials unfolded.

The romance aspect is also beautifully done. Elara’s growing feelings for both King Darius and Prince Kellan add a layer of complexity to her journey, and I loved the tension between choosing love and fighting for survival. The way Priestly weaves these relationships into the larger narrative of the Luna Battle is masterful, making the stakes feel even higher.

Overall, The Luna Battle: The Game is a must-read for fans of paranormal romance and strong heroines who rise above their circumstances. It’s a story that will stick with you long after the final page. If you’re looking for a book that combines action, emotion, and a touch of romance, this is it. Don’t make the mistake of putting it down too soon—this one is worth seeing through to the end!

For the first time ever Goodreads led me astray. It’s not worth nearly 4 stars, it’s worth 2 at an absolute push.

There’s way too much going on at once and not a single aspect gets the focus it should. Multiple POVS are pointless if they don’t add anything to the story.

Kellan’s POV should have focused more on him discovering the main guy and how they find Elara’s wolf. Plus I don’t get why he kissed that woman on video. It wasn’t explained properly at all.

Then there’s Darius’s fight with a wolf I assumed was his dad but then we hear their dad’s casket was empty and Darius is surprised? Dude, did you not just get beat up by him??

Everything is way too easy. They trust all the right people, no one betrays anyone. There’s no complications getting Elara’s wolf - nothing they can’t handle anyway - and even the villains become nice at the end. Where’s the drama?

Way too many inconsistencies. It’s a nice idea, with an original storyline but the delivery falls flat. The characters don’t talk to each other normally, they’ll speak as though they’re narrating a story. It ruins the whole experience.

Everyone’s constantly laughing. Every other sentence and there’s a giggle from one of the MCs. Are they always high on something?

The writing is awful. Really difficult to follow with tenses changing, days going by without it being clear, characters appearing then disappearing, half the time I had no clue who said what and who’s giggling and wtf is going on. Not worth the read.

Yikes

Honestly, this is one of the worst books I’ve read in a long time. The female lead makes no sense at all—she’s supposed to have been brutally tortured and assaulted her entire life, yet she shows zero signs of trauma and spends the whole story recklessly throwing herself at the male leads. The plot is paper thin and so repetitive that I started skimming just to get through it. And the plot holes? Everywhere. The writing itself is awful--I thought I’d lose my mind if I had to read about someone “laughing” one more time. On top of that, there are spelling and grammar mistakes on almost every page and multiple times where the wrong character was referenced. It genuinely reads like something slapped together on Wattpad.

If your into shifters

I read several different genres from true crime, summer beach reads to books about shifters and vampires. This book had a refreshing take. There was enough of a "threat" to the main character to keep the overall story moving along at a good pace. The character development in most cases was done well. At the end, there were two time jumps to set the book up for the sequel.
I enjoyed this because it was a new scenario/storyline. It was explored well. It wasn't confusing and had a decent pace to it.
For those readers who enjoy this type of story, (i.e. werewolves), I would definitely recommend it.

Not a good example of a game used to choose a Luna, it’s more like a party game for wealthy friends, and it's distracting from the story. The story is also too wordy, it loses a lot of the intensity and power in this way and creates passages that keep it on the cusp of boring.

But on a whole the story is a good one, original, intriguing and interesting. Definitely not a quick read, but when you get through the boring parts, it’s well worth it. 4 stars for originality alone.

Luna Battle: The Game

The story just became so long that I skipped a lot of pages. The book wasn’t edited, quite a few mistakes with grammar. It is still a great plot but it’s easy to get bored. She is a great FMC but she’s being over powered and suddenly gets all this magic etc which does get annoying. I also got annoyed with both male characters, both just came across as really stupid/ dense like they couldn’t think for themselves. I think maybe just because this story was so long that I became annoyed with it and skipped a lot of pages to get to the point faster.

The first few chapters are hard going mainly because of the trauma Elara is going through, but it is so worth it!
Elara’s character development throughout the book is impressive. I love a strong female lead and Elara doesn’t disappoint.
This book has a very unique take on the competition which makes it a different and interesting read.
This story is choc full of tension, action and romance and is very much worth reading.

Plot was repetitive and drawn out, dialogue was not structured well and made the reader spend too much time wondering who was speaking. Spice was rushed and sloppy, overall editing was wildly lacking. Storyline was good but the expression of it was like swinging at a piñata blindfolded. Will not be continuing this series, I’m shocked I was able to skim through to the end of this book to begin with. No pride taken in the work to spend editing or offering a high quality product.

The story line was really easy to follow. I love that there isn't a lot of bouncing back and forth between person views, often repeating the same part of the story. The main character is fierce and honest, easy to relate to. I wasn't a fan of either of the 2 leading male characters to start with, but the character development is great. Very few grammatical errors. This was a very engaging and hard to put down!.

I feel like this has the potential to be a really good book. But there was a lot of editing that needs to be done. I had a hard time connecting with the main female character. And I could never fully get into the story because of how it was written.

Awesome

This book I started on a pay chapter site. I'm so glad I found it on Kindle. This book is wonderful as it is unlike any other shifter book with the plot. Keeps you engaged wanting more. The author did an amazing job and I am looking forward to reading her other books. I can't say enough praises for this author. I can't wait to read the next one.

addictive read

This book is one of those books that you feel exasperated at times with the characters yet you can’t put the book down because you need to find out what happens next! I enjoyed this book and will be getting the rest of the series to carry on with all their journeys and adventures.

I loved this book. The character development was superb. Had a good pace and twists. Somethings came out of the blue like an after thought. But it didn’t take away from the story.
My only real issue was the last plot point with childhood friend. It wasn’t necessary.
However I love a good epilogue and this had 3!
If you like modern day shifter fantasy, I recommend this book.

Oh my, this was cringe. From characters, to storyline, it was barely tolerable. 3 stars for effort as this was slightly better than similar stories i have had the luck to recently find, but it does not reflect the quality of story at all.

This book is overloaded with unnecessary scenarios and aggression towards its lead female characters it is difficult to get through. I read about 2/3 of the book and put it down.

I have really enjoyed reading this book, so much so, at times I didn't want to put it down and fell asleep reading it! It is a bit graphic in the beginning but I expected that and it enhanced the story line.

This Book 1 in The Luna Battle Book Series has an intriguing story which jumped around, a interesting world idea, characters that needed some filling out. This needs a little work, but I love the idea of the book.

Good, and a bit long.

I enjoyed it. The female is not a weak one, which is nice. I say this on Facebook and hunted it down. The ending was a happy one. I enjoyed it. There were some grammar errors but easily looked over as I skim read. All in all, it's worth a shot.

Absolutely Captivating

Lots of twists and turns kept this novel super interesting. Imagine the selection book series, but with werewolves. I can’t even imagine what could be in the second book, but I’m 100% going to buy it.

Pretty good for mindless reading. Not a pretty creative way to choose a Luna and to prove someone’s capabilities. A lot of things in the story didn’t make sense as well. Entertaining at most.
