Can they escape the crimson tide before it consumes them? The cult may be gone, but an even greater threat looms. The red sea from Elysian Garden is spreading relentlessly, threatening to consume the town—and ultimately, the world. As the crimson plague inches closer, the townsfolk must unite for a final, desperate attempt to halt its advance.

I really enjoyed this trilogy, a beautifully written and character driven story that explored the best and worst of human nature. A mixture of self sacrifice, leadership, kindness, love/hate, bravery, cowardice, cruelty and the overriding will to survive. At the end of the story I still don't know what the unnamed town, it's dilapidated twin and the frightening Elysian Garden were meant to represent. Why and how were certain individuals transported into their welcoming but highly disturbing embrace? Were the three communities a representation of purgatory, an allegorical tale of what lies behind the veil, a possible experiment resulting from alien abduction or just a good old fashioned sci-fi/ horror story? It's a long and drawn out tale but stick with it and enjoy the ride.
I read the trilogy one book after the other. It was incredibly entertaining. The genre is not my usual pick, but I couldn’t put this one down. I miss the characters now that I reached the end!
Tough one to rate as I enjoyed the series overall however I definitely felt this was the weakest book of the series by a large margin. So much time was spent on characters having long individual monologues about each of their respective relationship dramas, I was about ready to tear my hair out. Most of the monologues could have been covered in a single page instead of whole chapters. For the last book in a mystery/thriller series I was shocked at how much time was spent on relationships rather than action - it felt like only around 20% of the whole book was actually concluding the story. The ending felt quite hollow to me as a result :(
I really think with some tight editing these books could be phenomenal though and I’d definitely be interested in what else the author writes in future.
What a great ending to The Town That Shouldn’t Exist trilogy!!! I loved this series so much!!! ❤️
I have a newfound respect for the Amanda character now!!! She said things that I have been dying to say throughout this series!! Yes, girl!!!! 🙌
I did get a bit teary-eyed a couple times over a couple of characters, and I also wanted to slap a couple of characters silly!! 😂 So my feelings were all over the place!!
Highly recommend this series to horror lovers and fans of the show From!! 👏
Thank you to Boris Bacic for the opportunity to read the eARC in exchange for my honest review!! As always, I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!! ❤️
So many questions unanswered. Did the cult create the red monster? Who is the guardian under the church? Who are the townspeople that just walk around? Why two towns? And what is this red globby monster? People forever trapped? More chapters devoted tonstory rather chapters of characters self questioning and self incrimination.
The conclusion of the Town That Shouldn't Exist Trilogy. When I started the first book, The Town the World Forgot, I was unaware that it was the start of a trilogy. I ended up giving the book a 3.75/5 (rounded up to 4/5 for GR), feeling it was decent even if it was nothing special. I felt locked into reading the next two books, The Town Where Echoes Linger and this one, to get the answers about the mystery surrounding this strange town. The second book got a 3.5/5 from me (rounded down to 3/5 for GR). It was a bit of a step down from the first book, but I figured, there's only one more book to go, I'll just knock it down and get this series behind me. The first two books were all right. How bad can it be?
One star. That's how bad it can be. There was some relationship drama in the first two books, but this book just got ridiculous with it. At some point, every chapter became a vessel for exploring romantic and/or sexual relationships between various characters. Every. Damn. Chapter. A chapter could start with some serious life or death stuff, and I'd be thinking, "There's no possible way this chapter can turn into relationship drama." Then a character would be like, "I wonder if this other character back in the town really likes me or not."
There's relationship drama involving characters who aren't even a part of the story. In one chapter, a character enters an empty house to search it for clues about the "red stuff" menacing the town. (Don't look for a better descriptor than "red stuff" or "red thing" because this book doesn't contain one.) Wouldn't you know it, the empty house and bare walls trigger an extended flashback to the time this guy's wife left him prior to the start of the story. And just like that, a chapter that is nominally about a character searching for clues about the "red stuff" turns into a chapter about relationship drama.
It got to the point that I was looking at reading a few more chapters of the book every day as a distasteful chore. I badly wanted to DNF, something I've only done maybe twice in my life, but sunk cost fallacy set in and I figured I might as well finish it just to get the answers to the mystery. Did I get those answer by struggling through to the end? Well, I got some answers, but some big questions are left hanging. What is the origin of What is Who (or what) created the town in the first place? At the end,
I was glad to be done with this book so that I never had to read anymore about the relationships of the people of this town, or the weirdly graphic (albeit brief) descriptions of sex and masturbation.
The Town Erased by Time by Boris Bacic is an amazing conclusion to this series. I have become so attached to the characters, that I was delaying finishing the book because I really wanted my favorites to survive. It's been a while since I purposely took an additional weekend to finish a book just so I could savor what was left. That is how great this series was.
Even with a town full of characters, Boris Bacic somehow managed to tell a story with them all without confusing me as the reader. He eloquently moved between the perspectives and was still able to tell a cohesive story with no detail left out or confusing plots.
If you're reading this, and haven['t started the series, I would consider this series one of my favorites. I implore you to give the first book a try. This book as everything, from psychological, sociological conflicts, survival elements, horror, even hints of romance. There is room for every reader to enjoy this story.
The ending wrapped everything up perfectly. I felt like it left just enough open for the reader to create their own ideas on how things transpired next, while giving enough to have a solid end. 100/10 recommend.
From the first book to the last, page turner! Boris sets the stage, draws you in to become invested with the characters, and wraps it up in vivid details. I read all three books in a week, and I had to see how it all turned out for the towns residents. If I had one complaint, it would be the length of the 3rd book. I found it a little too long. Otherwise, this was a great series!!
So the biggest takeaway is that this series is two books too long. It's EXTREMELY similar to the tv series "From". Who stole the idea from who? Anyway, don't waste your time. The first book was mildly entertaining. The second book jumped the shark. The third book is monotonous and dull.
The Town Erased by Time is a strong entry in the survival-horror genre, blending mystery and psychological horror with supernatural elements. At its core, the novel plays on the fear of isolation, the unknown, and unraveling hidden truths that were meant to stay buried.
It investigates an abandoned town wiped off the map, only to discover the town is far from lifeless. Bacic masterfully paces the unfolding horror, starting with eerie silence and strange clues before building into full-on terror. The deeper it digs, the more the reader will be drawn into the town’s dark secrets. Each revelation feels like peeling back a new layer of nightmare, keeping the tension high.
Obsession with the truth, the determination to uncover the town’s secret mirrors the common horror trope of curiosity becoming a curse.
The abandoned town amplifies the sense of vulnerability. Bacic taps into the fear of being trapped in an inescapable, hostile environment.
The novel blurs the line between what is real and what isn’t, leaving the reader questioning the reliability of the narrator at times.
It is well-written, though some side characters are a bit underdeveloped, which is typical in horror novels where the focus is on survival and unraveling mysteries. It's chilling and unexpected, adding a unique twist to the story’s climax.
Bacic’s descriptive prose is one of the highlights. He paints unsettling images with detail that makes you feel like you’re right there in the abandoned streets. The novel’s pacing is tight, with short, punchy chapters that increase the intensity as the story progresses.
Overall, it’s a satisfying read for horror fans, especially those who enjoy stories about forgotten places and dark secrets. If you’re into claustrophobic horror and psychological twists, it’s definitely worth checking out.
That ending!! Ahhhh! Excellent. I LOVED all 3 of these books! I totally recommend this series to anyone who likes horror. it's got a few different horror elements in it too not just "things that go bump in the night". Each book was an atmospheric, beautifully written anxiety enducing story of survival. surviving the town and its residents as well as outside forces. if I could make one request to the author.. please make a story about my man Nathan and his life before coming to the town. I need more Nathan! I have another book by Boris Bacic on my kindle wishlist that I think I'm just gona go ahead and download. he's a solid horror writer and I'm happy I found him!
So many dialogues, inner monologue. Felt like, the author was dragging the story plus the ending was just not wht I expected. Why they can't leave the place? Nothing was explained. Didn't like it at all. I think I am being generous with the stars. Worst of the trilogy. Expecting more, but ended so abruptly.
Not one for reviews, but after a long year of 3 stars, this whole series has 2024 ending on a high note. Great series, very easy to follow characters as they grow across all three books, and nothing wasn't over the top and I didn't expect the ending, but I liked it. Few moments in all the books where I couldn't put it down. And very few publication errors lol
Wow! This is the final book in the series where the town meets the supernatural entity that has been tormenting them face-to-face. And, by the end, everything is explained and makes some horrifying sense. While the ending isn't a perfectly happy affair, it's perfect in a way that is difficult to explain in a review. As is always the case in these large epics, we also lose many of our favourite characters. But that only adds to the emotional impact that makes these stories so memorable. I highly recommend all three books in this series.
The Townsfolk are pushed into looking for answers as a new threat is slowly coming their way. Will they be able to stop it in time, or will the town become a ghost? Will they find answers that will allow them to leave, or will those answers raise more questions?
Great Series, in-depth characters, reminded me a lot of the T.V. series Lost.
I honestly can say this is the best series I have read in a very long time. I was hooked at the very beginning and was so sad to have it end. It is that good. Thanks to the author for allowing me this awesome read. I guarantee you that you have never read anything like this before. Enjoy.
Finally, a trilogy that ties everything up with no loose ends. It all makes sense, everything that happened had to happen that way. Nothing was just capricious, or arbitrary. A very satisfying read from that aspect alone - but also a really good horror story with characters that draw you in and make you care about them.
This has been an amazing series. I think if I was stuck there I would have offed myself long ago. Makes you feel sorry for the people that get trapped there. So much action that I couldn't put this book down. The ending is sad, not the way I wanted to see it end, but that is what made this book great. I recommend reading this book to all that love to get scared.
this trilogy ends with an AWESOME Stephen King style twist
I have to say , the ending really dazzled me! This trilogy is the perfect summer binging by the beach or any safe place you would find, because at night you’ll certainly dream of it !
I love this set of books. I'm sad that I'm finished with them because they were a wonderful read! I hope Boris comes out with another book for this set that he wrote! Awesome job!!!
the first two books were good. the second one was my favorite but this book? it SUCKED. the ending was a disappointment and i regret having read these 3 books at all just because of how this last book ended.
This series was one of the best ones I have ever read. I got the feeling that I was there. It would make an amazing movie! Mr Bacic is a consumate story teller! Love his books!
