The Heights #1

Dirty Secrets

Rate this book
Living in Hawthorne Heights wasn’t for the weak.
Crime and violence surrounded us, but we did what we had to in order to survive.
Not everyone made it out alive though when dodgy deals went wrong.
My brother had proved that when he’d been killed right in front of me when I was twelve.

I’d managed to dodge the foster system, thanks to my brother’s best friend.
Reid had only been a kid too when my brother had died, but he seemed so much older.
He’d taken charge, making sure my best friend Logan and I never went without.
We were a family.

Over the years, it became harder to ignore the revolving door of women.
Growing up as one of the boys meant I saw way more than I liked.
It didn’t bother me when they chased guys away from me, I wasn’t interested anyway.
Even when Zavier moved in and I got my first crush, I never acted on it.

Now at twenty-one, I just wanted my virginity gone.
There was no way the guys would let anyone touch me though.
Until one of them agreed to sleep with me, altering our friendship forever.
That one dirty secret would be the first of many, and it would tear us all apart.

*This is Raven, Logan, Reid, Ander, and Zavier’s story. Dirty Secrets is book 1 in a reverse harem/why choose trilogy. It contains dark content, adult themes, violence, and miscarriage.

pi-Zap-1 '𝐃I𝐑T𝐘 𝐒E𝐂R𝐄T𝐒' Is the first full length romance book within the (Heights) trilogy by author R.E. Bond. Spoken in 'multiple perspectives'

This was a solid start to this world the author has created, even though it’s got a follow through storyline and characters it’s easy enough to keep up and enjoy.

The very first few pages grabbed my attention and pulled me in straight away and from that point onwards made for a slow burn enjoyable read.

This group of misfits had a bond thicker than blond and the girl who was their glue.

Right in front of Raven's eyes at the age of twelve she lost her brother over a dodgy deal he'd done with the wrong guys. From that point onwards it was her and the three guys (Logan, Reid and Zavier) against the world as they all struggled over the loss of her brother and tried to keep a roof over all their heads, food on the table and utilities paid was a lot ot place on their shoulders but it's what they did to keep Raven out of the system.

This was the life they were dealt, as the years go by feelings start to evolve shaking the dynamics of this group to the core, one her best friend, the other loyal to a promise he'd made to her brother, throw in the other roomate he too had feelings for her he'd tried to keep under wraps.

Raven lost the most important person to her she was 12. Life was no picnic while her and the thee guys try to make ends meet, keep food in the house, roof over their heads and alive. Fast forward 9 years and feelings start to change. Secrets develop and feeling start to get in the way. In true RE Bond fashion this book will have you yelling at the men to wake up. This book does have some triggers so be sure to read them. This is the first book of 3 and ends on a cliffhanger.

Dirty Secrets, the first book in The Heights Trilogy and FINALLY we get Ravens story

and Reid's, Logan's, Zavier's and Anders (where are you boo?👀)

In all honesty Bond is incapable of writing anything bad, I devoured this book within 8 hours and was frothing for more, I need book two ASAP!! The cliffhanger we are left on had me wanting to throw my kindle with how up in the air everything was left!! all the emotions with this book, an absolute 5 star read for me

This is the definition of found family and friends to lovers. I loved learning more in depth about all these guys lives after getting snippets from Bonds other books.

The hardships these guys have faced and how they have stuck together and been there for each other was everything, who doesn't love a found family?

Logan really is more than what he's been portrayed to be and fingers crossed we continue to see this side of him and also see Ander, I need words with him. 😡

Would 100% recommend

This is another masterpiece from R.E. Bond. From page one, I got completely hooked with the book and characters, and didn't stop reading until the end.

The Heights Trilogy started off with Dirty Secrets, and it was the perfect beginning of their story. We have met Raven and her guys as side characters in previous books in R.E. Bond's WMB Universe, but now they finally have the main stage in their own trilogy. In Book One, we get to know them and about their lives in The Heights. The Heights is a town where you don't just live, it's a town where you have to survive daily, considering all the crimes, lack of laws, and more. Raven Pierce, Logan Donahue, Reid Barron, and Zavier Lopez are all survivors and characters that had a traumatic, hurtful life since their childhoods. Learning about each of their pasts was extremely heartbreaking and got me in tears many times. Every day they keep going and fight to survive, to not go without food or lose each other. The only thing they could always rely on was each other, and their bonds and connections are one of the most beautiful things in this book.

Through the book, we see friendships turning into more, secrets forming and later being exposed, ups and downs with each other and their past coming back, unexpected danger, heartbreaking moments, the hard life in the heights but also changes for the town. There are many mysteries that we can look forward to finding out, especially when it comes to Ander Lavaro himself. We met Ander in Pretty Little Psycho first and then in the Night Thieves Duet, but since the Thieves, he has basically vanished, and nobody knows where he is and why he is gone. And nobody expected the danger that he possibly brought, especially not me.

The interactions with the characters from R.E. Bonds' other books in this Universe were so beautiful, and every time I had a huge smile on my face. The friendship between them is something I love so much because these characters have each other's backs, genuinely care, and protect each other. Rory Donovan is many things for different people, but for Raven, she cared as the mom Raven never had, and Rory's and Raven's interactions made my heart go crazy and feel emotional. Rory has a different understanding for Raven since she also grew up in the heights. I loved how much she cared and supported her, it was one of the best things I've ever read.

The plot, characters, twists, and mysteries in R.E. Bond's Books are incredible but also the smut scenes she writes are so damn good and feel realistic, yet hot as hell.
The ending (which ends on a cliffhanger) is nothing I would have ever expected. It was crazy when you find out who is after whom and who is involved with each other. I'm so excited for Book 2 because something huge is coming, and I can't wait to find out what will happen after this shocking ending.
These characters have secured a special place in my heart. Raven is one of my favorite female lead characters, she is unique, which I love. Getting lost in RE's books is one of the best experiences I've had since I started reading. I've said it before and will say it again, R.E. Bond is an incredible author, and her books are so damn special, they take you on a journey every damn time. Her talent needs to be seen, and I hope many will love Raven, the guys, and the others. This is a must read for anyone, really.

What a ride this one was. R.E. Bond never fails to deliver a story that has you gripping the edge of your seat when it comes to action, suspense, drama and emotional impact that has you wanting more.

Raven has spent her entire life being surrounded by testosterone; Reid, Logan and Zavier are the only family she has ever had or needed but they are also smothering her. They all use sex as an escape but wont let a male within breathing space of her. Things get dicy when she decides enough is enough.

Add in a strange but oh so amazing friendship with the daughter of a ruthless street crew and things get really interesting. Until life throws a curveball none of them saw coming. The trust that was built is torn down in a series of events that leave you reeling and words are weapons that harm even the most hardened hearts. The past has a way of coming back to haunt you and this one may break them more than they can handle.

I've wanted Raven and her guys' book since they first popped up in this huge interconnected world, and it was well worth the wait! I loved all the character crossovers from the other series. This book is angsty, steamy, funny, and emotional.

Raven is sick of being the butt of everyone's jokes just because she's a virgin. Reid, Logan, and Zavier are her protectors but also her gatekeepers which is why she hasn't been able to date anyone. After watching the guys sleep around over the years and secretly wanting them, Raven finally decides enough is enough and makes her move.

From that moment on, it's one secret after another being kept from each other. If that wasn't causing enough issues, Reid's addict mom shows up, they have a run-in with the police, Ander is still MIA, and they have a car stalking them. This all leads to a huge incident that has irreversible consequences for all of them. Be prepared for a cliffhanger that will leave you on the edge of your seat!

Dirty Secrets had me hooked from the first page. This story is a gripping blend of raw emotions, complex relationships, and unforgettable characters. I first heard about these characters in one of R.E. Bond’s other books, and seeing their story unfold in this new series was such a thrill.

The writing pulls you into a gritty world where every decision carries weight, and the bonds between the characters feel real and unbreakable, even when tested. R.E. Bond’s ability to create tension and emotional depth is unmatched, and this book is no exception.

Without giving anything away, I can say that this story will keep you turning pages, balancing moments of vulnerability with high stakes and a sense of urgency that doesn’t let up. If you enjoy stories about found families, personal growth, and complicated dynamics, this book is a must-read.

I can’t wait to see what’s next in this series—definitely a standout read!

🎶 “Ooh, I care, I care, I care. Like ribbons in your hair. My stomach's all in knots. You got the one thing that I want 🎶

Growing up in crime-ridden Hawthorne Heights, Raven (h) lost her brother young but found family in his best friend Reid, her closest friend Logan, and eventually Zavier, the boy who stole her first crush. Together they survived the violence around them, but adulthood brings new battles, and at twenty-one she is determined to shed her innocence despite the protective wall her boys built around her.

—*•.¸♡ ★·.·☾ ゚。´THOUGHTS゚☁︎。`·.·★ ♡¸.•*⋆—

“You’re not a fucking hookup, Raven. I don’t want you to be like those girls who drool over fucking a roomful of guys. I’m selfish, and I don’t particularly want to share you,” he cut in, resting his forehead on mine. “Please say we can keep doing whatever this is for a little longer.”

I hated the other woman drama and how the MMCs openly slept with people in front of her while still claiming she was the only girl they were truly interested in and wanted. They slept with practically the entire town, and that was supposed to be them being down bad for Raven? At least Xavier had the decency to stay with her and not sleep with other people in front of her. The miscarriage scene WAS SAD. Instead of comforting her, Logan was busy having a pissing match with Reid. And Reid - he just makes me mad. He refuses to be with her because of some promise he made to Josh, her dead brother, and it feels like such a hollow excuse for pushing her away when she needed him most.

Logan was the first to be with her, starting as her best friend and someone willing to teach her everything. He tried to keep it a secret, but it was obvious it would come out eventually, especially as he grew more jealous when Xavier began making his moves. Reid then felt betrayed when he realized that everyone had been with her without him even knowing.

—*•.¸♡ ★·.·☾ ゚。´OVERALL゚☁︎。`·.·★ ♡¸.•*⋆—

She was struggling, alone and sad, and she needed someone to comfort her. Instead, they were arguing over who had her first and treating her like a prize. These boys are not charmers, let me just say that. I will continue the series for the sake of completing it, but I did not have fun with this one.

Captivating from Start to Finish: A Must-Read!

I could not put Dirty Secrets (The Heights Book 1) by R.E. Bond down! This book is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions, blending action, suspense, and heart-wrenching drama with moments of love, lust, and sheer intensity. R.E. Bond has once again delivered a gripping story that keeps you hooked from page one.

What I absolutely adore about R.E. Bond’s books is the interconnected world she creates. I love when familiar faces from past stories pop in and out—it’s like coming home! This sense of connection makes the experience even more immersive, and it’s a testament to the richness of her storytelling.

Raven quickly became one of my favorite characters. She’s a mix of sass, fierceness, and a vulnerable innocence that tugs at your heartstrings. Her bond with her found family—Reid, Logan, Ander, and Zavier—is the heartbeat of this story, and their protectiveness amplifies the stakes. Each character is layered and dynamic, pulling you deeper into their lives.

This book has everything: tragedy, angst, passion, and love, all balanced with just the right amount of grit. It will have you gripping the edge of your seat, fully immersed in Hawthorne Heights' raw and dangerous world. But take heed—this book comes with a cliffhanger that will leave you desperate for more. You’ve been warned!

Dirty Secrets is the perfect start to a reverse harem/why choose trilogy that pushes boundaries and keeps your emotions in overdrive. If you love stories packed with action, suspense, and deeply emotional moments, this is a must-read. R.E. Bond’s talent for weaving dark and compelling narratives is unmatched, and I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series! -

Ugh So good, need more now!

As always, this author knocked it out of the park once again. Can I say I was so excited to read more on Rory too!? She is amazing and just love her. Okay, now on too Raven's story.

Raven witnessed something horrible hapoen to her brother when she was twelve with her best friend Logan and her brother’s best friend Reid there with her. Now nine years later, she lives with Reid, Logan, and their friend Zavier and they live in The Heights which is a horrible part of town. She's a v!rg!n and is tired of pining after the guys when all they do is sleep around but won't let het be with anyone.

Each of the guys are trying to protect her and each have feelings for her too. Logan and Reid promised when they were younger not to touch her and Reid even promised his best friend but it's getting harder to keep said promise. Zavier has always wanted her but the guys won't allow it.

All of them have or had horrible parents and do what they can to survive. I enjoyed seeing Raven explore things witj one or more of the guys, read to find out who. Also there's the mystery of someone who is after one or more of them. Loved getting glimpses of chatacters from other books.

That cliffhanger, ugh, need more! Can't wait for next book!

MORE!!!

I thought that I was going to have a harder time getting into this book, I just wasn't super invested in these characters up to this point, but obviously I was still gonna read it. It's the law, don't look it up it goes to a different school, but it's totally a law.

Um, first of all, shame on me. ALL the shame, she never lets us down and I should have known better than to think I would be less attached by the end. I wasn't looking for slower with angst, but I got it and, once again, shame on me! We get what we NEED from Bond, every time!

Zavier was a favorite of mine in previous series and I think maybe I was subconsciously savoring his story. He's such a loud and strong side character, there was no way he wasn't blowing me away. You might think the whole RH thing would get old at some point, and I would have to bite my thumb at you. Every bond story, and every bond family, has been IMPECCABLE and I am more proud every time.

We're spoiled.

I can't wait for the next one!!! 😭

Actually far exceeded my expectations!

I will say, I think there were other books in this world that I should've read prior to this one to fully enjoy it. There were a lot of cross overs, at least it appeared that way, from the other series. It didn't take anything out of the reading experience, but I think it would've improved it overall.

The world building was phenomenal! The characters are pretty distinct in their voice and personality and have their own unique flaws. Quite frankly, I don't read to many down on their luck type books. But every one of the MCs was dirt freaking poor and barely getting by. It made for an interesting read but was a learning curve for me.

Really my only complaint with this book is the special snowflake, Virgin Mary aspect. I think the book would have to seal itself shut in solidarity if the FMCs virginity was mentioned even one more time. If we are on that note, the overly sexual nature of the guys was such a stark contrast that it really just rubbed me the wrong way.

I write reviews mainly for my own records/recollection.

Uunknown Threat…

We’ve gotten glimpses of Raven, Reid, Logan and Zavier in From the Ashes series. It’s not needed to read that series before this trilogy but if you want some history of them I would recommend it. Plus you’ll love seeing characters from those books.

Raven, Reid and Logan have had it rough, growing up in the Heights fending for themselves after the death of Ravens brother and Reids best friend. They collect Zavier along the way to complete their friend group.

This book has a lot of emotional angst and plenty of sexual tensions between the characters. Real life drama on trying to survive and make it day to day.

When an unknown threat comes for one of them will it bring them all closer or tear them apart? We get left on a cliffhanger where we get no answer to that question. Heartache and chaos will lead us into the next book. Can’t wait to see what the author puts us through next.

Dirty Secrets is filled with lots of drama, angst, secrets, revelations, heartache, all the feels(readers), twists, turns, things going sideways, and with so sooo much heat 🔥!! Dirty Secrets was anything but boring that’s for sure. So happy to have finally gotten to read all about Raven, Logan, Reid, and Zavier. I know it says Ander but he is only mentioned so far, he has not made an official appearance yet. Can’t wait to see when he does because I don’t see anyone being happy when he does especially after what just happened. I won’t say any more than that because if you want to know what happened then you need to read all about it! Readers who have read any of the Heights universe (Watch Me Burn, From the Ashes, and Night Thieves series) will absolutely become addicted to The Heights series and will want to read Dirty Secrets which is book one in the series. I know that I can’t wait for book two, Broken Promises!

I like this one

I like this book it was quick past. I love the characters. In this book. Of course, the ffc irritated me. But so far so good. This is the first book I've read by this author and I love the world-building as well as the characters in it. The character building of it, the audio could have been a little bit better. No, it could just have been better. Not a little bit, it could have just been better. The male narrators were talking so fast. It was like they didn't put any emotion into what they were reading. They were just trying to read it as fast as they could. And because of that, I didn't really like the audiobook of it, I'm waiting for the new one to come out tomorrow to see what it is. But yeah, I like this. I'm going to go ahead and start reading. And wait for the audio to come out tomorrow. And then I'll go back and start with y'all. Read out your own peril

🖤❤️‍🔥

I have been in a serious book slump the past few weeks and this is the first book that I have devoured in a while. R.E. Bond is one of my favorite why choose authors and she did not disappoint on this one! This book starts out with Raven losing one of the most important people in her life leading to 9 years later while she is living with the few friends she kept close. This book will have you frustrated at the stupid men, frustrated that she can't get out of her head and constantly lets her insecurities sway her decisions.. The spice is on point as usual and I can't wait to see what trouble Raven and her guys get into next. I don't want to say too much and spoil the book but if you're looking for a found family, friends to lovers why choose romance, you've found your book!

Raven

I don’t think I have ever come across a author who not only is amazing, but creates a world of books, that surround the same place, each series has a new generation or their friends or family members who are from the same neighbourhood or city. And it all started by the one of a kind Rory Donovan.

I mean R.E. Bond has been a huge part of my kindle/amazon collection experience over the years. I don’t think anything will ever beat the “watch me burn” series.

Raven definitely reminds me of Rory. And this series has been the best start.
I just love their world and how everybody comes together when there is a fight or a war. It’s never boring and always has you entertained from the get go, I’m so excited to get stuck into book 2. With a cliffhanger like that there is more to worry about, from shocks and twists, definitely didn’t see that coming.

I could not put this book down!! So many feels!

I could not put this book down!! I love the connected world that R.E. has created as I love when past characters pop in and out. It is like going home! Raven is a favorite charactor of mine! She is sassy, fierce with an innocence about her that is amplified by the protectiveness of her found family. Growing up, Raven has had crushes on both Reid and Logan and Zavier, new to thier family. We see the guys struggle with thier feelings, overwhelmed with guilt about letting a loved one down. I wanted to throat p*#ch the guys and I would like for them to get their heads out of thier butts! Can I mention the ending??? I need book now, right now!!!!

Sometimes the best love is tough love. Talk things through together and understand each other.

Awesome so far. Sorry I'm probably the only one but I felt bad for Reed. I understand his predicament. He wanted her but also wanted to stay loyal to his best friend. I knkw they will get their stuff figured out. They are a bunch a great protective obsessed guys. Who do love her very much. They just gotta figure out their brokenness to live a better life and make a happy family. They have some great friends (previous books series) and always lovely to see Rory back can't wait for book 2 to be released. I was going to wait til series was done but it got the better of me lol.

I absolutely love this shared world and I love each series that comes out of it. The first book is nearly always my favorite because we finally get time with the characters and you get your first glimpses of previous characters.

Even if you didn’t know anything about this world, the book’s description will hook you in. Who doesn’t love a good secret, especially when you know it’s going to lead to pure entertainment. For us the reader, definitely not the characters.

This book is full of delicious tension, spice, drama and RE Bond’s snarky dialogues. I knew there would be a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Raven

Dirty Secrets is the first book in this RH series. Raven is the FMC and life has been hard for her. She was abandoned by her parents as a child. Her brother tried to watch it for her, but the violence of their neighbor took him from her. Reid, his best friend, stepped up to take care of her...along with Logan, her best friend. Lopez would come along later to help out. One thing is clear...they are all in love with Raven.

But misunderstandings and hurt feelings will cause an explosion in their relationship. And with danger coming for them, it will be interesting to see what happens next.

I think everyone that's read Rach's stories loves the interconnected characters/overlapping storylines in this little world she's created. When we first met Raven and the guys the tension was *tense* and was something that just niggled at the back of the previous story until you knew you needed to know what was happening there.

We finally get a start at that with this book but in true Rach fashion she ends it on a cliffy . I can't wait to see where this story goes with the rest of the Heights trilogy though and will be waiting patiently for her to release the rest of it to us and knowing her book twos clif is going to be something that wrecks me.

Omg this story. Growing up in the poor neighborhood of The Heights isn’t for the weak. You had to be tough and be able to hold your own. Dealing , stealing etc. raven’s brother gets killed in front of her when she was younger and now years later her along with her bros best friend Reid and her two besties Logan n Zavier , they try to survive in her childhood home the best they can. Fighting their attractions for each other , people coming after them. Oh and you see old characters in this book from previous series. This book was amazing from the get go. And oh and guess what ? the second one is out now too. Enjoy peeps it’s a wild and crazy ride lol .
