Who knew I’d become an author? Not me. But when the opportunity knocked, I answered the door and welcomed it in. I approach life with as much positivity as I can—celebrating the hits and laughing at the misses. Nothing worthwhile is easy, and that includes everything in my life. But I have much to smile about—my lovely mother, a beautiful daughter, two precious granddaughters, my adorable dogs, and my sweet husband of over thirty years. He has always supported me—including uprooting to move to the other side of Charlotte, N.C. for a life change, just when we thought we were settled.

If settled means not going after my dreams, then I never want to be settled. I give my all to things I enjoy—and that includes writing. In 2021, I hit the USA Today Bestselling Author list, and recently, two of my books were named RONE Finalists!

I love to express myself to the point that my daughter avoids going to the movies with me because I’m that woman in the row in front of you who gleefully munches her popcorn and laughs at every hilarious scene. Loudly. Besides my family, I love chocolate, popcorn, laughter, and animals. I love animals so much that I frequently sprinkle them in my stories as secondary characters. They usually steal the show! British and American history have always interested me, so writing historical romances set in the U.K. and the US is where my passion is.

When I was barely three years old, my parents divorced, and my mom moved my sister and me from New York to South Carolina to live near her parents. Juggling a full-time job and full-time school, my mother became my first genuine hero—she never waved the white flag when things were tough. And things quickly got tough. My grandmother, who helped care for my sister and me while my mother worked, became ill with cancer, and didn’t survive the surgery, dying before I was seven. Losing Grandma devastated me. She read to me and taught me to read before I started first grade. I credit her for inspiring my love of reading, and I credit my mother for encouraging me to turn my ideas into stories.

When I was ten, my neighbor gave me her book club copy of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind and it remains one of my favorite books. But it was Kathleen Woodiwiss’ Shanna and Ashes in the Wind, that hooked me on historical romance and sparked my dream of becoming a published author.

While I primarily write Regency Romance, I enjoy almost any period in American and British history.

Traumatized by the attack that left her fiancée dead, Katie Latham suffers from nightmares and panic attacks. One year on her family persuade her to attend a ball where she meets Sebastian Soren and starts, with his help, to rejoin the world again. But the attack wasn’t as it first seemed. A lovely mix of mystery & romance. Lovely characters & a fast paced story made for an engrossing read

I loved this book. It engaged me from the very beginning and kept up the pace until the end. It was exciting and emotional with some great heartfelt moments.

The story starts out with Katie and her fiancé looking for Wendel’s carriage after attending some sort of theatre production. They were so happy together and planning their future. That feeling emanated from the pages, until tragedy struck and Wendel ended up dead.

Katie was devastated. She carried a lot of guilt over it, had nightmares, and shut herself off from society for a year. She knew she had to get back to living life and goes to a ball with her family,

Sebastian. Oh my, goodness, Sebastian. He is everything I look for in a hero. Tall, dark, handsome, chivalrous and quite taken with Katie. Her brother has asked Sebastian to keep an eye on her because he thinks she’s still in danger. Sebastian is all about it and goes further than merely keeping an eye on her. It isn’t sexual, but he teaches her things.

This is a love-at-first-sight trope, with a broken-hearted, guilt-ridden heroine and a patient hero that showed her it was okay to feel again.

This was an easy five star read.

I received an advance reader copy and voluntarily gave an honest review

A stand-alone book but with characters from “A Widow’s Perfect Rogue”. At the end of that book I posted in my review, “I hope his sweet sister and cousin get their own books.” Well, this book is about his sister. The characters are likeable. You are rooting for them. After a horrific year and a half, Katie is finally breaking out of her depression and once again circumstances are against her. Sebastian is rakish and daring and everything you would want in a rescuer. The dowager duchess is once again a hoot..

Kissed by a Scoundrel by Anna St. Claire
Miss Kathleen “Katie” Latham’s finacé and friend was murdered in front of her. Over a year later, she finally agrees to venture back into Society. Fear has kept her prisoner. Her life starts changing when she meets an intriguing man at the ball. Sadly, the nightmares she’d been having continued.
Lord Sebastian “Slice” Soren isn’t looking to be leg-shackled. Willing widows are enough for him. But something about his friend’s little sister keeps him spellbound. She’s an innocent, yet he can’t get her out of his thoughts.
A Widow’s Perfect Rogue is Katie’s brother Thomas Lathan’s story and gives more background to one of the villains in this excellent story.

Kissed by a Scoundrel is a bit deceiving -Sebastian is anything but a scoundrel! He’s handsome and dashing and very protective of Katie during the book. Swoon- worthy! Good story!

Great read. Had me engrossed from the start. I’m annoyed that I didn’t find this series until the fourth book. I now intend to to go back and read the previous three. Really recommend this book

This a sweet and easy to read novella. Katie has to get back on her feet after a horrid incident. Sebastian is tasked with protecting her and getting her back to feeling safe again. The plot is simple and easy to follow with no holes. The dialogue used by the characters flows well. It is an overall interesting story to read.

She lost her fiancé to violence but something more is nagging at her subconscious. He has been tasked to protect her and look into the murder case. While the mystery is unfolding, we get a peek into the progress in their relationship and demented mind behind the tragedy. Engrossing read!

I like that Katie is so unconventional. She was engaged and thought she had the rest of her life planned out and the tragedy struck. Since the men who accosted them were never caught, Katie lives in fear. Over a year later, she realizes she has to go out sometime. She meets Sebastian. He has agreed to watch over her for her brother, but there is just something about her that appeals to Sebastian. She isn't his usual type, but she is compelling. Sebastian agrees to teach her to fence so that she will feel some control over her life. Just as she is feeling more sure of herself, she is kidnapped by one of her earlier attackers. Can Sebastian find her in time?

Wow, this story has it all, a horrible robbery, the mystery of who did it and why, tons of suspense and the slow growing attraction between out couple. Lord Sebastian is every girl's dream, tall, dark and handsome as sin. With wonderful dark brown eyes too. Lord Sebastian Soren, Slice to his friends. He has no need to wed as the second son to a Duke. He has been asked by his friend, Thomas to watch over and protect his sister during the London season. Katie last year was engaged to Wendel and they were planning their wedding and future when he was killed in a horrible robbery. The three men who did it were never caught and Thomas worries about Katies safety. Since then, Katie has been a recluse afraid to leave the house for a year. She has suffered with flash backs and nightmares. But now her brother and sister-in-law have got her to go to the Dowager Duchess of Clarence ball. Unfortunately, an accident with pearls sets off her anxiety and memoirs of that night. Sebastian comes to her aid. As they spend time together both have feeling and desires neither have felt before. The villains are not gone but in hiding and still watching her and her family. With Sebastian and Katie spending time together with the help of the Dowager who is half fairy godmother and half matchmaker! Along with her friends as their feeling grow there is lots going on and danger is near. This is a fast-paced mystery with a slow pace romance. Tons of twists and turns with something I didn’t see coming. I haven’t read the rest of the books in series but plan to go back and read them now. This book works fine as a stand along. Be sure and not miss this one we learn so much of the working of the mind and what can happen to those who have horrible thing happen to them. I received an Arc from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

A little murder/mystery with romance and suspense thrown in for good measure.

Lord Sebastian “Slice” to his friends has no intention of getting married. He leaves that to his older brother. He’s happy travelling the world and having liaisons with willing widows.

As a favour to his friend, Sebastian has the job of keeping an eye on the sister during the London Society season!

Poor Kathleen “Katie”, she tragically lost her fiancé in a robbery! Terrified of the outside world, she became trapped in her own home! Nightmare and flashbacks keep her afraid of her own shadow!

Neither have plans to marry. Neither had plans to fall in love! Fate has a little surprise for them both!

Her brother and sister in law having been slowly getting her to come out of her shell, and now they want her to attend the Dowager’s ball! But attending gives her a horrible experience and a flashback! But before she can leave, Sebastian comes to her aid. They spend the evening together talking….

But unbeknown to them, they are being watched!

Spending more time together (being encouraged by their family and friends) the couple become close, and feelings that neither thought they would have have, grow.

A really good read. It has loads of fast paced action, but it is a really slow burn in the romance area. We have twists and turns, we also try to work out who killed Wendel (her betrothed) and why they still watch Katie!

This is part of a series, I haven’t read the first book. But it’s not a problem, as they are all stand alone reads.

I did chuckle at the Dowager, she’s definitely a matchmaker and had fun putting these two together 😃

But do we find out why Wendel was murdered? Do we find out why Katie was being stalked?
We….. Sorry!!! To find out, you’ll need to read the book 😉

This book has Katie Latham paralyzed with fear after a robbery and the murder of her fiancé whom she witnesses and blames herself for and becomes a recluse in her family’s home, not entering the society functions. When she finally agrees to go to a ball, she sees an incident which triggers her PTSD, and Sebastian sees and comes to her aid. Sebastian is a friend of Katie’s brother and also a security professional and recognizes her trauma immediately. Sebastian helps Katie at the ball and is hired by her brother to find the robbers and killers that have never been caught and to provide security to Katie. Sebastian agrees and along with teaching Katie some self-defense and fencing, he begins to fall for the strong lady.

A good suspense, tragic loss, quite a bit of danger and a clean romance makes up for this book. I was completely invested within the first chapter and even though I hadn’t read the previous books in this series, I had no issues keeping up. This is a shorter read and one of my favorite characters is the Dowager Duchess. I can see a romance brewing in the background, and would not be surprised if it’s the next book in the series.

The action in this book appears to follow right where "A Widow's Perfect Rogue" leaves off. I haven't read the first book yet, but I was still able to enjoy this story. Katie had mourned her fiancé for a year and she blamed herself for his death. She was living like a recluse because she was afraid to leave the house. Her family encouraged her to take fencing lessons from Sebastian to build back her confidence so that she could reenter society. Sebastian also began to investigate the murder. The villain of this story was rather sinister and there was some on-page violence. Thankfully, Sebastian and Katie got through it together and had their happy ending.
This story had interesting characters and lots of action. A future enemies-to-lovers romance was definitely brewing, so I'm eager to see what develops in the next book. I received a free ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

We have Captain Sebastian “Slice” Sorensen and Miss Kathleen Latham sister to Lord Thomas aka Viscount Latham!
Slice has been asked to keep an eye on her as she is just venturing out in society after the tragic loss of her fiancé a little over a year ago!
Katie is resolved to learn to defend herself and what better teacher than handsome enigmatic Sebastian or Slice!
They have a natural chemistry and Sebastian is an excellent teacher!
But the death of Katie’s fiancé was not by chance and there are sinister forces at work!
When Sebastian’s investigative work yields startling results and he realizes the woman he has come to care for is in grave danger!
It’s a race against the clock can he get there in time? All the thrills! Bravo would have loved a peak into the future!
I received an ARC copy for my unbiased review!

Lovely Historical Romance with Suspense

Katie’s world is shattered when her fiancé is killed during a robbery. Over a year later, she is trying to pick up the pieces of her life. She meets Sebastian and realizes that her heart beats still.

Sebastian agrees to protect his friend's sister, but he has no intention of falling in love or marrying. Does he have a choice? When deadly danger strikes, Sebastian realizes that he has no choice at all. What is the peril that strikes, and can Sebastian protect the woman he loves?

I enjoyed this story very much. I recommend it to those who like historical romance with mystery and suspense. This story follows “A Widow’s Perfect Rogue,” but it stands on its own. Even though I have not yet read that story, I did not get lost following the plot. Having read this book, however, I intend to read the previous one, which is about Katie’s brother.

This authors series are so mixed up its hard to know what to ward when, so I'm reading completely out of order. I suspect read our heroines brothers book first would have been a good idea.
So to this book, nice enough plot although a bit light on detail, great hero in Lord Soren, ex war hero, investigator, investor all round good egg who happens to be single and free to devote all his time to Katie, who spends her time drinking not chocolate, crying, and having nightmares after a bad incident in the past. Her ex fiance starts as a Mr but becomes a lord by chapter two, quite a feat for a dead man (who appears to have been a bit of a wimp).
All a bit rushed and light on detail where it most needed it, but could be not having read the previous book in the series may be the issue. But a book should stand alone, and this doormat quite.

What of Nelson and Katie's cousin?

A very romantic entertaining book from start to finish! I loved the different way the book opened. This is a fast-paced exciting book with two lovely main characters. Captain Sebastian Soren and Miss Katie Latham have a chemistry that is off the charts. There's a lot of danger for Katie and Sebastian steps up to teach her self-defense. During her lessons, they both realize that they have feelings for each other. The story evolves into an exciting race to catch the villains and get their HEA. It's a well-written love story with a few surprising twists and a great epilogue to tie it all together. I can't wait to read the first book of the series. I loved this book and you will too. I highly recommend it.

A sweet romance that evolved from tragedy.
Katie and her fiancé are robbed and he is murdered.
Katie goes into mourning, refusing society but eventually ventures to a ball with her family.
Sebastian is a friend of her brother who has asked him to watch over Katie.
Despite her survivors guilt, she becomes enamoured of him.
Their relationship is fraught with danger as the murderers are still out there.
Some excitement, plot twists, and a HEA.
Enjoyable read.
I received an ARC but the honest opinion is my own.

Is there life after loss?
When her fiancé was murdered in front of her, she very nearly suffered the same fate. Katie had been mourning him for a year, when her family convinced her to attend a ball. She has been living in fear, constantly reliving the horrible events in her nightmares, not daring to leave the house. But now, she has finally decided to try and live a normal life again. She hopes that learning to fence to protect herself with the assistance of Sebastian will help her. But the killer and his accomplices are still out there…

Katie Latham hasn’t ventured out into society since she witnessed the murder of her fiancé. Sebastien Soren has been asked to watch, guard, and help Katie rejoin life. They work together and get along. Sebastien helps her rebuild her confidence with lessons in defending herself. This story is an interesting mystery with villains who may not be quite sane, or finished with their schemes. It is also a lovely romance with a re-emerging heroine and a wonderful hero.

What a fantastic series, and all the stories keep you guessing. I'm finding I enjoy mystery and suspense with romance woven in. This has all that and more.

Both the MC are wonderful characters, and you can see them as a couple. The Duchess adds to the story, and I hope she lives forever! This series is standalone, but you will love this authors writing style and will grab the whole series.

Filled with suspense, nasty villains, sadness, joy, intrigue, some violence, twists and some romance. Great secondary characters and I can't wait to read their stories.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, just kisses but you won't miss the spice because the author makes you feel their romance without the steam. Story did end at the 85% on my e-reader - rest teasers.

I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you some extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. (ljb)

Ou heroine, Katie, becomes a recluse after being a victim of a robbery and attack that takes the life of her fiancé. Fearful to go out in public again, she decides to take lessons in fencing. Her brother asks his friend, an expert in foils, to teach her and watch over her in his absence. The two are instantly smitten with one another. She not only learns to fence, but falls in love at the same time. But those evil doers are still on the loose and Katie’s life may yet to be in danger. A most enjoyable read with a sweet romance and lots of mystery and intrigue as well!

This book had so many twists and turns I was jumping out of my seat and couldn't put the book down. Katie and Sebastian were a great couple. Sebastian helped Katie overcome her fears and protect herself when necessary. The Duchess was hilarious with her match making efforts. I hope Paula and Nelson get a book in this series b/c they were great secondary characters with some tension between the two. This was another great book in this series.

This book is a good mixture between murder mystery and suspense. The heroine’s fiancé is murdered in a robbery when they are walking to his carriage. She has withdrawn from society for a year and is riddled by guilt and fear. Her brother asks the hero to watch out for her and she asks him to teach her self defense. Then the action starts to happen. It was a good read and a good second book to the series.

This is such a beautiful, poignant story of Katie's journey through life. Beautiful, sweet, loving Katie losses her fiance one night in a horrible event. This will have you in tears within the first chapter. All of her joy, confidence and thirst for life are suddenly gone. With much encouragement, Katie takes up fencing and is taught by the amazing Sebastian. The story will keep you fully engaged, tied to each page and holding your breath to the very end. Beautifully, beautifully done.

An interesting and quick read. It had quite a dark start, but I enjoyed Katie's journey to a better future. The danger surrounding her from the beginning kept an edge to the story. Sebastian was so protective of her, and his attraction made it stronger. The tale was enhanced by the suspense side of the story, and it was a satisfactory ending. I look forward to more in this series.

Loved Katie and Sebastian's wonderful story full of adventure, mystery, attraction and passion with a kidnapping thrown in for good measure. Katie's late fiancé was killed by pick pockets who were never brought to justice. Sebastian is her brother's friend and tasked with keeping Katie safe, can he keep her safe from harm from would be kidnappers whilst fighting to keep her out of his heart.
