“A well written, suspenseful, fast pasted murder mystery with the unique complication of a hurricane. I loved the vivid descriptions stimulating a sensory or emotional response…A strong, haunted, intelligent female protagonist who is reckless at times. Her partner is equally competent and supportive.”

Sounds like it matches

This book shows how close police can come to getting an innocent person and ruin their lives due to coincidence. Well written and very likeable characters, Rory and Evan.

Someone is killing off young rodeo competitors across Wyoming and the body count is now rising. So just who has a grudge about these new rodeo competitions versus the old style rodeo shows? Rory Wood (I was expecting a big butch cop here, well rodeos) and Evan are having to work hard to find the killer of some of the youngest rodeo stars in the business, as the body count is definitely getting too high.

It was okay, quite a quick read and as I know next to nothing about rodeos in the States it was a bit of an eye opener about just how competitive it is for these young riders. They live eat and breathe horses and winning, second place won't cut it. The addition of Rory's past and regaining trust in her father also helped the book to move along.

The book did start well, but then logic seemed to have taken a leave of absence, and the story became a bit (more than a bit) unrealistic. The female protagonist, Rory, seemed to act on impulse, and changed suspects nearly hourly - trying to arrest them without any evidence at all.
That was a pity. because it seemed a good story initially.

3.5 stars.

I know it's picky but I had constant issues with her name. To me 'Rory' is a male name (82.5%) and so I had to constantly re-set my character image.

The rodeo leaning murders were well done but the name.

Murder of rodeo people is a quick read. You can’t guess who the serial killer is, but you follow Rory and Evan as they figure it out.

Weak writing and movement in the story.
