The Wielders Discovery follows the story of Nova Astor, her sister Raelyn and their elven bodyguards in the event of mass murder Kael Blackmore escaping from prison. This story features witches, elves, and humans in a fantasy world that explores the power structure between each race as a part of Nova’s own identity development and exploration of self.
Overall story was okay I felt as though the idea behind the story was very strong while the execution of the story was very lacking. The beginning pace of the story is very slow and difficult to get through, while the middle and end of the novel I felt picked up speed and is more engaging. I found the writing to be very simple, lacked complexity, over-explained things that should have been demonstrated through the use of literary imagery. The explanation of the story felt very rushed and forced throughout the novel, I felt like the story lacked clear world building necessary to tell the story to fidelity. Lastly the addition of the romance storyline felt very rushed and forced and could have benefitted from additional character development for both characters involved. I was able to guess the ending immediately at the start of the novel and the twists and turns throughout were very clear and predictable. This took away much of the enjoyment from this romantasy read for me. For those interested in the romantasy genre I think this is worth the read!

I won an audiobook giveaway and I’m so grateful to the author for sending me a gifted copy! This one felt like a palate cleanser after finally finishing a horror book I’d been reading on AO3 for two months.
The beginning was a little slow, but the world-building was steady. I also sneaked in a read of the novella The Rebel’s Rose, which helped me understand the story better. Things really picked up once the bodyguards were introduced, I loved Nova’s sister’s mischief!
Nova’s sudden decision to leave her safety net just to learn more about her power threw a bit of a wrench in the plot, but it was inevitable for where the story needed to go. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed this one, and the slow burn was well done.
I did see the plot twist coming, mostly because Luke’s behavior reminded me of a similar setup from Twin Crowns... but otherwise, it was a solid twist with great build-up. I half expected Blackmore to be killed after the reunion (as is often the case with these kinds of plots), so I was pleasantly surprised and relieved that he was still alive by the end.
I also read the bonus chapter in between, which turned out to be quite interesting too. I like where the ending was headed, and I might just pick up the next book soon.

I really enjoyed this one from my name twin! A fantasy world that has intricate world-building, witches, elves, humans, elemental magic, slow burn bodyguard romance, political intrigue, sisterhood, and a strong FMC on her road to self-discovery. You’ll also get forced proximity, one bed, and secret identity. The pace was great overall. Slow start that ended up pacing nicely throughout. I really enjoyed Nova and Flynn’s relationship development and that it didn’t steal away from Nova’s growth. I also really loved how mischievous Nova’s sister Raelyn was. She made me chuckle. Great book!!

This felt like such a cozy read for me! I loved Nova’s growth throughout and loved reading about her relationship with Fynn. However, I appreciated that the focus wasn’t solely on their relationship and more about Nova’s self-discovery. Definitely excited to read book 2!!

The Wielder's Discovery is a fast-paced, slow-burn story about an unconditional love between two sisters and how your magic comes from what is inside of you. I truly enjoyed the flow of this story and how well developed the characters and world are without too much info dumping. Nova and Rae's relationship is heart-warming and so relatable. The pacing of this story was well thought out. The action scenes were engaging and exciting while the scenes in between were just as well written and pulled the story along. I was very impressed with our villain in this story. Like, jaw-dropping, speechless, hate-to-love-how-well-written-he-is.
Meredith, you altered my brain chemistry with this epilogue. Please tell me we get book two soon!

🖤 VIBE CHECK: Where Magic and Politics Collide
The Wielder’s Discovery is a cozy romantasy with elemental witches, bodyguard elves, and a whole lot of political intrigue.
🔮 The Curated Plot
Nova Astor’s life is completely derailed when a criminal, Kael Blackmore escapes from Mistfell Prison putting her entire family in danger. Instead of the fun and carefree summer her and her sister expected, they are left feeling like prisoners, trapped in their apartment with two trained elves as bodyguards and so many questions.
🍪🍯🌶️ The Sisters: Sugar & Spice
Let’s talk about these sisters! Sisterhood is such a huge dynamic in this novel. I love how Nova and Raelyn were written, they complemented each other well. Nova’s earth magic is nothing special which probably led to her developing her people pleasing trait. Her parents are obvious with how they treat her sister, Raelyn, the stronger geo-witch. Raelyn is more mischievous. She doesn’t like to follow rules. Their lives are in danger, yet Raelyn wanted to experience a bit of adrenaline. Convincing Nova to lead their bodyguards on a small chase around the city was easy, and fun. Their bond was the emotional core of the novel!
🛡️☕ Protective MMC Vibe Check: Fynn
Oh, Fynn. Protective, yes but no red flags in sight! In the back of my mind, I’m waiting for him to betray her (I read too many dark romances) but he never does. He is like Nova’s big guard dog, always ready to attack if anyone tries to harm her. We explore an area of Fynn’s past, getting to know him better and explaining his protective side. It’s not easy for him, but he eases up and allows Nova the chance to protect herself. These two were together the entire time, and I did not get enough of them.
⭐ The Cozy Conclusion (Rating: 4/5 Curated Coziness)
I recommend this to any of my YA readers looking for their next magical epic fantasy with a whisper of romance. While the plot points were predictable, this wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, though. It’s the same cozy feeling when I am in the mood for an animated movie. No stress, no emotional rollercoaster, just comforting, curated vibes.

Nova Astor is a teacher and a geo-witch like the rest of her family. She and her younger sister, Raelyn, are anticipating a fun summer with trips to the beach and capital activities with their close friends. All hopes of relaxing are dashed when a notorious murderer and rogue witch- Kael Blackmore- escapes from an inescapable prison. As their father is the main reason that Blackmore was sent to prison and anticipating the powerful witch will want revenge on the Astor family, Nova and Raelyn are forced into lockdown with two elven bodyguards. Personalities clash and tensions build until it all comes to a head causing Nova to uncover a startling realization- one that she can’t come back from.
This book is aptly titled as it brimming with discovery: self-discovery, discovering that few things are truly as they seem, discovering the power of love - whether familial, platonic or romantic. The low-spice bodyguard romance is wonderfully well done. The world building is intricate and promises more to come with upcoming books in the series. There is acknowledgement of the prejudice and racism of the world in the story but it appears to be done in an effort to be set-up for resolution in upcoming novels.
Nova’s personal growth throughout the story is one of the best aspects of it. The love between the sisters is wonderful and their occasional conflicts and different personalities make it seem even more authentic. Fynn is a green-flag of a MMC without being bland in the least. The supporting cast is varied and interesting. The Wielder’s Discovery is a dynamic debut novel and leaves the reader wanting more.

For some reason I didn’t realize Nova was the main character but that is entirely my fault. I had to reread the book summary to make sense of who was the main character and once I did I fell in love with Nova.
Overall the characters felt real and the pacing was nice rather than too rushed or too slow. By the last eight or so chapters it starts to pick up and you don’t want to put the book down which I had to die to being in school while reading but I didn’t want to.
The magic system was well thought out, it made me think and rethink how my magic structure in my tale is laid out. It was wonderful, from the witches basic nature magic to non magical humans to elves with their primal magic that isn’t really magic. It was wonderful. Everything to do with the magic system was well done and easy to follow.
Nova: She was very personable and relatable for someone in her situation. If I thought I was powerless for the entirety of my life I too would have a few choice words to say to the person who kept my full potential from me. Her apprehensions in the end about who to trust and who not to was well done. While reading who her father is (I called it when Blackmore escaped) was such a great discovery. Together Nova and Fynn made sense, the work well together with a few minor hiccups but when is there not in a new relationship.
Fynn: He was nice, his personality flipped a few times which I wasn’t always for. He says he’s territorial but it doesn’t quite add up when Nova’s more a grump than he is (in terms of grumpy x sunshine) even though this is not a grumpy x sunshine I seemed to assign those roles to them. Even through I knew his name was Fynn the whole book I still tripped up and called him Flynn like Flynn Ryder from Tangled and to be fair it’s kinda suits him, personality wise.

This was my first read by this author and oh my gosh, I absolutely loved this so much!
This is the first book in The Witches Of Astria series and as expected with this genre, we are left on a bit of a cliffhanger....so be prepared!
We follow the story as Nova starts the summer with a visit to the family cottage - but as news comes that the alleged murderer, Blackmore, has escaped Mistfell Prison, things must change to keep the city and it's dwellers safe.
This story unfolds gradually and I loved learning about Nova and her sister Raelyn and their childhood.
They had such a great relationship and when things got rough, it was clear to see that their bond was strong.
When we meet Flynn and Esta, I just knew that we were going to see a touch of romance and I was all there for it!
I loved the mischievousness of the girls and the way that Flynn easily jumped in as protector every time.

The self-discovery and coming into power, the twists within her life and of course the romance was just perfection and I was hooked from start to finish!

I just couldn't put this down and was jolted back to reality the second it finished and felt bereft!

This is the first book in The Witches Of Astria series and as expected with this genre, we are left on a bit of a cliffhanger....so be prepared!
We follow the story as Nova starts the summer with a visit to the family cottage - but as news comes that the alleged murderer, Blackmore, has escaped Mistfell Prison, things must change to keep the city and it's dwellers safe.
This story unfolds gradually and I loved learning about Nova and her sister Raelyn and their childhood.
They had such a great relationship and when things got rough, it was clear to see that their bond was strong.
When we meet Flynn and Esta, I just knew that we were going to see a touch of romance and I was all there for it!
I loved the mischievousness of the girls and the way that Flynn easily jumped in as protector every time.

Murderer hunting down the governors family. Targeting 1 sister over another. Being caged like an animal in your own home under constant supervision. Your freedom taken away similar to the escaped convict who is targeting you. You’re a weak witch, barely a witch. More human than witch. No protection beside the Elf assigned to protect you. Needing to breathe freedom from your parents, your life and can’t even escape to the one place that grounds you. Something isn’t right. Too many questions. No answers. So you run. Run to the Goddess of magic seeing if the holy grounds can provide answers. To help the thing that’s coiling in the pits of your stomach. Pieces of the puzzle slowly fitting together. Lies. Half-truths. Nothing is as it seems.
Interesting world between Witches, Elves and Humans. Story has brief moments of racism - a short story here and there. It was a very quick read, an easy read. Found myself wanting more background history in the beginning. Really felt like the storyline picked up in the last half of the book. Found myself relating more to Raelyn, the sister, rather than the main character. Romance relationship seem to move fast but then realized it might be more of a story for younger fans (teens and younger adults). Will read the next book. I want to find out more and am hopeful that we learn more about the human and Elves realms/areas of the world.

This was such a good book for a debut novel, I am so impressed.
Right from the start, we are already getting to know the main characters and the important things we should know moving about the characters, worldbuilding and history.
This book portrays a good example of a unique magic system. The different culture were sewn into the story so elegantly and with perfect timing, I enjoyed reading about the cultural backstories so much, but what I enjoyed the most was the found family aspect of this book.
I loved the awareness brought to racism, xenophobia, corrupt leadership, superiority and self discovery. The bodyguard, slow burn romance had me giggle although I would have loved more tension between Nova and Fynn.
The dialogue? I feel needed a little more work. The pacing? I loved it. The chapter lengths? Not too long, not too short… perfect. The banter? Hmm, yes! The character developments? Had me smiling. The worldbuilding, magic system and different cultures? ATE IT UP.
There were a few things that felt unfinished and almost everything tied together at the end. This book will have to so focused on thinking you know what the plot twist and every other surprise catches you so off guard.

Nova is not a very powerful geo-witch (a person who can manipulate earth), unlike the rest of her family. They’re pretty well off so they’re in the public eye, so when they learn of a prisoner escaping looking for revenge, their dad hires security for her and her sister to tail them night and day. Nova’s security detail is Fynn, and together they all accidentally discover Nova’s hidden power, and try to figure out why this escaped prisoner is targeting them.
There are lots of popular tropes here - forced proximity, bodyguard, one bed, slow burn, and elemental magic. I loved Nova’s relationship with her sister, and that Nova knows what she wants and says it rather than messing about for the whole book. I did kiiiinda see the plot twist coming but I enjoyed getting there either way and am looking forward to reading book 2 and getting more Nova and Fynn time!!

The Wielder's Discovery is a sweet and captivating romantasy with a fresh take on magic. The world building was easy to follow and the elemental magic was fun and unique. Meredith is a fantastic writer and makes you feel like you're living the story alongside the characters. In particular, the hot spring scene was so well-written and had me wishing I could visit there myself! That scene will stay in my mind for a long time.
Caring, protective, respectful and smitten--everyone needs a Fynn in their life. He was Nova's biggest cheerleader and their love story was just the cutest. Nova was very relatable and I loved watching her self-confidence grow with every chapter. The strength of her relationship with her sister was really heartwarming as well. The pacing during the first half was a bit slow for my personal preference, but once it picked up in the second half I couldn't put it down!

ARC Review: a fast-paced, slow burn book about a society with witches, elves, and humans, and a beautiful found family element. i did enjoy this book quite a lot, i was interested from the very first chapter and due to the plot and fast pace i stayed hooked. i really liked the plot and worldbuilding of this book, and they’re the highlights for me, but also nova’s relationships with people were also something i really liked. her and raelyn’s sisterly love was so sweet, and im glad they had little moments of conflict as well- it made it seem so much more realistic. nova and fynn were so so cute, dancing around each other until they finally gave in, and i loved fynn’s character.
this book did read more YA in my opinion but i liked that because it meant i was able to read it in large chunks without getting bogged down by heavy worldbuilding. i found the ending slightly rushed but i enjoyed it nonetheless. overall, a really good debut book and a fun and enjoyable read, thank you for the ARC!

In a world filled witches, fae and humans, the powerless witch of a governor finds out the man her dad locked away has escaped and is hunting their family to get his revenge. She and her sister are given fae body guards to protect them until things go awry and she discovers she’s had the powers of a wielded her whole life that were hidden. She must now work with her fae body guard to make her way to the rest of the wielders to harness her powers and protect herself from the man who’s after her.
This story was an exciting fast paced read that delved into the growth of the FMC nova on both a personal level and in her powers as she grew more confident in herself. I enjoyed following along on her journey and also her relationship she developed with those around her, especially the MMC Flynn and their developing feelings for one another. There were many exciting twists and reveals and that ending had me reeling, and I cannot wait for the next book so justice hopefully gets served! Overall I enjoyed this book and my rating 4.3/5!

ARC Review: What a beautiful read.
Let’s start with the writing… Kasian has such an intriguing way of bringing her world to life. Sometimes I felt the writing to be a bit much, but as I continued reading I realized the realism she brings was so vital to the storyline.
Secondary, the storyline… I absolutely loved the world building in this book. It started out a bit slow, but about halfway through I COULD NOT put this book down. The depiction of Witches, Elves, and Humans navigating the division history has created was absolutely amazing. Something I noted in my reading was empathy towards humans, which is not my first thought when different species are intertwining.
I am so excited to see what the next books hold in this series!

Kasian has written an excellent debut! The world- building and the magic system of the witches and the elves was phenomenal. I sincerely appreciate the attention to detail on the magic and world building.
I love to hate some duplicitous people doing dirty, and Kasian does not disappoint here even slightly. I shall not spoil exactly who, but Nova has absolutely every right to her fury. I feel like there are subtle undertones of commentary on family structures as well as, perhaps, the patriarchy and I enjoyed seeing that.
On the note of romance, Fynn and Nova were a well-matched and classic dynamic that give off grumpy and sunshine vibes. The banter and sass between them was nice.
I really enjoyed the family element of this story and the fast-paced plot and I would recommend this to anyone who loves low spice romantic fantasy.

I listened to the audiobook and it was very well done. The narrator’s voice was soothing and warm which made the listening experience really enjoyable and cozy.
The idea of the story was great. Witches, elves, humans, political intrigue and plenty of twists along the way. I did guess the main twist pretty early in the book but it was still interesting to see how everything unfolds.
The writing was simple but smooth and easy to follow. The pacing felt a bit uneven though. The beginning was quite slow, but later the story became much faster paced.
The slow burn romance between Nova and her bodyguard, the elf Fynn, was nicely done. I also really enjoyed Nova’s personal growth throughout the story.

Meredith’s story had me guessing the whole time!! Some of my guesses were correct, and I love when that happens! FMC Nova has secrets revealed that upend her life and how does she handle it? BY BEING A BADA$$! Oh and her supportive sister is right there at her side! Love the support for strong women!
Explores themes of raci$m between elves, witches and humans. Political machinations abound. And throughout, the theme of sisterly love. 💕
Slower paced at the beginning to help with worldbuilding but then it picked up and I had trouble putting it down! Oh also, I’m a sucker for a bodyguard romance 🥵🥰😘

If you love a romantasy filled with revenge, forced proximity, discovery of power, new love, and unlikely alliances you’re going to fall head over heels for The Wielder’s Discovery by Meredith Kasian.
From the very first chapter, this book hooked me. The world-building is rich, the characters are complex, and the emotional stakes just keep climbing. Watching the main character grow into her power while navigating trust, betrayal, and unexpected romance had me flipping pages late into the night.
Meredith Kasian did such a beautiful job blending magic, heartache, and hope into a story that feels both fierce and deeply emotional. It’s the kind of book that lingers long after you’ve finished it and now I’m absolutely counting down the days until the next one.

Wow.
This is honestly such a unique story, world and the characters have been created incredibly well with plenty of points that are relatable whilst still making them super interesting and people you want to follow and be apart of !
The magic within this one is so different I don’t think I’ve read anything like this and Meredith did such an awesome job building it all up it was fresh, new but not overwhelming.
For a one line review - this is a breath of fresh air the fantasy magical book world needs with a mix of witches, humans, elves and more. The FMC was brilliant and she felt like she was REAL!

This book was so original with such authentic characters and a really solid structure of progression. The world building, character development, and plot progression were so well balanced throughout, and the pacing of the book was perfect (to me). The way each chapter ends really leaves you wanting more in a dramatic build-up of events and twists, and it ended with a perfect setup for Book 2.
I craved more of a tension in the build-up to Fynn and Nova's relationship, but that's purely personal preference.
I would recommend to fantasy lovers interested in the tensions between witches, elves, and humans.
