A Luxa will wake the Beast…
A Luxa will unbind him…
A Luxa will destroy us all…

Vale Tenebris has a big problem–she needs to get her and her sister out of the Perder Lucem like yesterday. Living with a bunch of cave-dwelling magic hunters wouldn’t be so bad if she wasn’t hiding what she is from the very people sworn to kill her.

Her escape plans crumble to dust when she has to choose between the freedom she longs for and saving her sister from the clan leader’s son. Forced to use the unruly magic, she exposes the one thing that would mean her execution.

Being put to death isn’t the worst part, either. No, that comes in the form of two dragon shifters who come to her rescue, claiming that she is the key to unbinding their king and saving the realm from extinction.

Betrothed to the Beast and thrust into an unknown world filled with daggers at every turn, Vale needs to learn how to use her magic–and fast. Because that ring on her finger won’t save her if she can’t figure out how to help the king, nor will it stop her attraction to the shifters who pulled her from the brink of death.

And the magic brewing under her skin could very well be the end to them all.

**Ruined Wings is a spicy dragon romantasy set in the Severed Flames universe. You can expect three sinfully hot, super growly shifters who will do anything to keep their woman alive. Mature themes will be present. Reader discretion is advised. **

4.5⭐️ the way this deserves SO MUCH more hype is insane. Like, the writing is SO good it pulls you in immediately and then we have dragon shifters, magic, WHY CHOOSE, fated mates, & the one bed trope?! Plus, I loved Vale, she was a bad bitch thru and thru and I always am a stan of a bad bitch FMC. Like from beginning to end, she did what she has to do! Also not Xavier having a FILTHY mouth. Like, idk why, but i was expecting that from Kian or even Idris, but Xavier? OHHh OKAY THEN. BABY, i was SAT for this book and i can’t wait for the next one.

3.5 stars because the insta-love is just way too much for me!

Three possessive dragons and one malnourished witch who doesn't know how to use her magic. What can possibly go wrong?

Oh, and did I mention she's basically mated to all three of them?

This series is going to be wild.

Okay... This book makes no sense. It feels like there are parts of the book missing. The important changes in the personality of the characters and their relationships that happen throughout the story seem unnatural in comparison to the relation of the time this story takes place in.

Previously I've only read one Annie Anderson series but I absolutely loved it. I was pretty sure lightning would strike twice and I was right. Ruined Wings is the first book in Annie's Severed Flames series and it was so incredibly good.

What a great bunch of characters. Vale (love her name by the way) and her "never say die" attitude. The woman never gives up even when it's hopeless. All she cares about is her little sister, how could I not root for her?

This is a RH so Vale has her own group of hot dragon shifters. This was a bit of a fast burn, Vale connects with them pretty quickly. Kian is a bit of a jerk at first, mainly because he doesn't process his feelings well. Xavier is a sweetie pie, I love him to pieces. Then there is Idris who is a darn incubus (in all the best ways) and no one can tell me different. Now, all that being said, my favorite character is Rune. Omg, I love the sassy dragon so much, he most definitely put a smile on my face.

This was a paranormal fantasy with all the fixins. I'm talking about different kingdoms, and a variety of supernaturals that include vampires, witches, fae, and of course, dragons. Everything seems to be centered on a curse, I would love to know what went down in the past that started all of this. Vale certainly seems to have her hands full with broody dragons, assassination attempts, a rescue mission (we still don't know what happened to her sister), and new powers. I still have a few questions including some of them about Vale herself.

Ruined Wings was amazing! Enemies left and frecking right, it hard to know where the danger is coming from and what would happen next. The story was over before I knew it, the pages just flew by. The twists were so good I can't wait to find out what happens next.

If you're into fast-paced, why choose/RH, dragon shifter romantasy, Ruined Wings is a fun, vibe read that might be right up your alley.

What to expect:
❤️ Fantasy ROMANCE
🗣️ 1st person, multi POV
🔥 why choose/RH
🐉 fire breathing dragons
👑 bada** FMC
✨ hidden magic

Spice rating: 🌶🌶🌶 (insta love & lust)
Ruined Wings is book 1 in a completed trilogy, all on KU.

Annie Anderson's writing style is casual and easy to follow, which was fitting for this style of book and the characters' personalities.

The plot moves FAST—especially the romance—which, if you've read why choose romantasy, won’t be too surprising. Characters falling head over heels the second they look at each other? Yep. But let’s be honest, there's just something about a possessive dragon calling the FMC "mine" as soon as he can like she's a treasure in his hoard that makes me giddy.

Ultimately, the romance is the focal point of this book. The fantasy elements serve more as a backdrop, with hints of deeper world-building and a magic system that I hope get explored more in the next two books. I don't feel fully grounded in the world yet, but the character dynamics kept me entertained.

There’s also a mystery woven into the plot–Vale is trying to break a curse on the dragons. It’s pretty predictable, but it serves its purpose (keeping the pace up in between dragons obsessing over Vale, our FMC).

A lot gets introduced in this book. I’m curious to see how it all develops, especially our four main love interests. There’s plenty of room for growth, and I’m looking forward to it.

A sincere thank you to Annie Anderson and The Nerd Fam for gifting me a finished copy of this book. I chose to read this on KU to support the author.

I suppose this was a fairly decent romantasy book with a reverse harem element. Not that our FMC has fully formed her harem by the end of this book, but it's there loosely. I don't think I've ever read a book that had so many details, but made so many assumptions about the reader knowing what was going on when THOSE details hadn't really been provided ... if that makes sense. The entire feel of the book is that these characters have a sense of intimacy and closeness, or like history with one another, when in reality they have only just met one another. They went from having just met one another to a level of familiarity that seems unlikely after only have known one another for such a short amount of time. I like the idea of this plot, but it didn't really feel fully formed. So I suppose that I liked this book, but I wanted more density to things so that I felt like I could fully understand everything. I'm hoping the next book is more fully formed and explains more of what is going on. Because I wasn't so confused that I won't finish the series, but might stop halfway through the next one if it gives off the same vibes.

There are three spicy scenes in this book, and while I feel like there could definitely be more, the ones that are in the book are delicious and descriptive. There's orgasm denial, a MMF group scene, and lots of skilled "eating." Our FMC apparently is a quick learner because she hadn't done anything EVER until her first threesome with Kian & Xavier and becomes a pro at most things in quick succession. There definitely could have been more spice, and I hope that the next book has more of it.
I don't know how hooking up after a person has gotten disgustingly sweaty is a turn on for any of these people. There's no amount of longing that would get me to go down on a person who had just finished a 6 hour workout before they cleaned up. And they're usually wearing leathers, so honestly, that's just making the sweat issue even more prominent. That's disgusting. And they have running water and plumbing is seems ... so go take a shower before you slurp at each other.

Vale (our FMC) has been trapped under a mountain (for her entire life) mining minerals that are poisonous to her since she has magic and the rocks she mines stifles her magic. She keeps hidden to protect her sister, but knows that she's some kind of witch (aka a Luxa). Witches are destroyed once found out in the kingdom that she's stuck in. She has plans for her and her sister to escape, but ends up getting caught and puts herself in the line of fire to save her sister from potential harm. As she's resigned herself to dying up on the top of the mountain, she's rescued by dragons. These dragons are tasked with taking her to the king of the realm, since a Luxa can break the curse that he and magic wielders suffer from. These dragons (Kian & Xavier) catch feelings quickly and after knowing her for like no time at all, decide that she's "theirs," and they don't want to doom her to the fate that other Luxa have preceded her. Spoiler alert: they all die during the trials they have to face to prove they're worthy or some shit.
King Idris is mentally connected with Vale and has been sending her messages via mink link or whatever. And that also apparently translates to them being able to hook up in the dream world. After a steamy beginning of a dream hook up with Idris, Vale wakes up and without really asking her if it's okay with her, she has a threesome with Xavier & Kian. Now they're absolutely hooked and have decided that they don't want Vale to go to the king and decide what's best for her is to run away and book a ticket on the ferry to leave the continent (with them of course).
Vale is rightfully pissed, she doesn't need these men making choices for her and she has her sister to think about. If she doesn't complete whatever these Luxa trials are, there's every possibility that when her sister comes of age, she'll also be a Luxa and then be forced to go through these trials herself. And Vale is all about protecting Nyrah (her sister). So she gets away from the guys and makes it to the castle following the voice in her head (which she thinks is Idris). She makes it to the cave of ANOTHER dragon and that's when Kian and Xavier show up again. The two of them intervene and when its clear that they're in danger - Vale steps in to defend them, only for this new dragon to get possessive of her as well. It's then revealed by Idris (who swoops in at the very end of the fight) that Vale has unknowingly just passed the first trial and that this dragon, Rune, is his other half and that is his curse - to be separated from his dragon, his soul has literally been ripped apart.
Now Vale is stuck in this kingdom, wanted by all of these dragon shifters AND a territorial dragon (how is that going to work btw, not sure that she can hook up with a dragon) and none of them are super keen on sharing. By the way - the fact that they're basically treating her like a shiny toy is annoying, but Vale only seems to be irritated with Idris about it and I feel lowkey bad for him. She's convinced that he only sees her as something to possess, like a new toy and that as soon as he gets what he wants (free from his curse) that he'll toss her aside. Weird that she's okay with Kian and Xavier being possessive, but not Idris.
People try and murder (multiple times - an attempted stabbing, poisoning, causing her to almost burn out by using to much of her power in an attack) her just for what she is and then all these guys get even more possessive. The possessiveness has a reason though, and is the reason why Vale can hear Kian, Xavier, Rune, & Idris in her head - they're fateborn mates. She's connected to all of them and we've got ourselves a why choose situation now. The best kind of situation.
The ending of the book was very confusing. Not really sure how Vale put together the information that indicated Fenwick as the culprit or how all of the guys are suddenly in peril. The whole council is in on it except Dorian and now there are additional witches? Are they the witches that have fallen to their death and they're being magically manipulated to use as dead puppets? And where the heck did they pop up from?
And apparently, to break the curse, a mate bond has to be completed, so the answer is to obviously marry Idris as soon as possible. And then the book ends on a cliffhanger. Next book comes out in November. Hopefully I remember all of these confusing as hell details by the time the next book comes out.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

dragon shifters x fated mates x why choose

I’m feeling a reading slump and what better thing to fix it than a why choose dragon romantasy? This is very easy to read with faced paced writing, multiple pov, more focus on spice and jealous MMCs than a deep plot, and ends on a minor cliffhanger.

Read this if you’re in the mood for…
- why choose
- dragon shifters
- fated mates
- the chosen one
- hidden magic
- bad guy rebellion

Overall, I enjoyed the story! It was a bit predictable and expected but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment. The FMC can be a bit whiny at times and expects to be protected etc which I didn’t expect from her upbringing in constant danger. I wish we got a bit more from her! The MMCs are classic possessive fated mate vibes.

Here are a few of my favorite things…
- the moment each of them realizes she can hear them
- Rune is so grumpy and reminds me a bit of Tairn

I will be continuing but unsure if I’d recommend yet! It wouldn’t be my first thought but maybe!

This book has pulled me straight out of a book funk.

Vale is a person you fall in love with straight away. She isn’t a superhero, just a woman protecting her sister. You stumble through the revelations of her world with her and stand shoulder to shoulder with as she bravely meets every obstacle. The dragons are tender but overbearing and vampires make tenuous friends.

By the time I read the last page I felt like I was doing 70mph on the motorway but then suddenly had to switch to 30! I actually gasped at the end.

Annie Anderson writing just gets better and better.

Helt ok.

Ruined Wings (Severed Flames #1)
by Annie Anderson

***5 sinful stars***

WOWZA! Let me just start by saying... this story is on the hot train express, and it will literally melt your screen! It's also action-packed and full of twisty turns at every corner.

Vale is the epitome of girl power. When her sister is put in the line of danger, she is thrown into unforseen events. Ones that will literally change her entire life, and what she thought she knew.

With the surprising help of some smoking hot, dragon shifters, she just might make it out of this mess in one piece. We can only hope!

I can't wait to see what comes next in this series, and I already know it'll be fantastic!

I couldn’t put this book down! Another Annie Anderson hit!
A Spicy Dragon fantasy why choose romance.
This book is full of a sassy heroine who takes no crap from anyone. She may be battered, beaten down and used as forced labor but Vale has no problem verbally punching you in the face if needed. Xavier, Kian and Idris steal her away to help break a curse on the kingdom. Little do they know her true power!
This book has drama, a strong, take no sh*t FMC and a cast of characters that will have you laughing, and cheering them on.

This was just really random in my opinion. Kind of all over the place and reminds me of a bunch of main stream fantasy books out there currently and I would kind of rather read those. Over no hate and it was alright.

“I wound her braid in my fist, tilting her head back as my hips shifted. “I need you again, oroum di vita.” My life until death and beyond. My fated one. I knew it as soon as she’d screamed at me on that mountaintop. She was mine “

Did someone say Dragon shifters and not one but 3 hotties!

This was such a fun read that I flew through it . It was a pallet cleanser for me. I enjoyed the adventure and went straight into the next book. I’m a lover of why-choose and fated mates so I ate this book up.

I really liked our FMC Vale … we start her journey being introduced to her rough up bringing so it’s super satisfying watching her grow into her strength. I didn’t find her annoying like I tend to when it comes with some FMC’s.

Each one of our MMC’s are unique and you have a hard time finding a favorite lol they’re all delicious.

This book doesn’t have a lot of complexity but it does ensnare you and doesn’t let go . Just a fun, easy read .

Tropes -
⭐️Forbidden Magic
⭐️Forced Proximity
⭐️One Bed
⭐️Badass FMC
⭐️Dragon Shifters
⭐️ Fated Mates
⭐️ Reverse harem
⭐️Spicy MMC
⭐️Arranged Marriage
⭐️Palace intrigue
⭐️ Witches , Shifter , Vampire , Fae + More

Oh my goodness that was amazing!!! A new genre for Annie and as always she grabs your brain and pulls you into this amazing new world where sexy dragon shifters are waiting, ( no choosing in this book thank you very much, we want ALL the dragons) and a Kingdom is crumbling. Fast paced action, beautifully described so you feel you are there, characters that grow and evolve but still keep true to themselves and Annie’s amazing writing made this a book I could not put down. The relationship between Vale and her dragons is steamy hot and the males are unbelievably sweet under those gruff exteriors but I especially love the bond she shares with Rune.
Plenty of twists and omg moments and the supporting characters all add to the overall plot and kept me hooked.
This is a medium burn multiple pov why choose with caution for language and explicit content. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait for the next book!

Let’s get the fire started!

Annie Anderson does it again with her book Ruined Wings! I cannot wait for the next book to come out, more secrets to undercover and battles to fight. I loved Vale the strong and fiercely protective FMC. Her courage in the face of fear was inspiring, she will do anything to protect her sister and her three dragon shifter mates, she Is finding she can’t deny.

Her mates Kian, Xavier, and Idris will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Even if sometimes they can’t stop putting their foot in their mouth. Men sometimes! I found myself wanting to reach through the pages and give them a good smack. Add the fiercely loyal dragon Rune, vampire Freya, and brownie Briar and you have a group ready to bring down the house. Dive into this story with dragons, witches, and vampires for a spicy adventure you do not want to miss!

Unlike any Annie Anderson book I have read before (and I've read all of them), but easily as good. With Dragons, Vampires and Black Magic. Fated Mates and Curses, Jealousy and Selfishness and Love and Family. Ruined Wings is dark and delicious. It's terrifying and heartbreaking, but above it all there is hope.

The world building brought harsh mountains, lush forests and castles in the sky. The characters were all fully formed, not just the MCs. Vale is amazing. Strong, resourceful and full of courage. Xavier and Kian heroic, but fallible and Idris, flawed, broken, but determined. By far my favourite character though was Rune. All the Stars

Annie is one of my favorite paranormal romance authors so when I first saw she was starting this series, I was so excited, and of course DRAGONS! What’s not to love? It did not disappoint! Vale is a well thought out character that absolutely stands all on her own, but with her two dragon shifters that save her and the powers she is slowly starting to learn to use she is formidable. I was on the edge of my seat, my heart racing right along with hers as I watched her become more secure with herself and her capabilities. I was rooting for her the whole time and excited to see what she would be able to do next. This book is beautifully written and I already can’t wait for the second book! This book is everything a paranormal shifter romance should be!

My favorite paranormal author of all time has pulled out a new series totally different from anything else she has written. Dragons! As usual, she weaves the characters to be so interesting and lovable that you can’t get enough. I started this book last night, and would not get out of bed until it was finished. My day is starting late and I’m tired, but it was worth it. I could not stop until I finished. Looking forward to the next in this series.
