She’s desperate to find her son. I’m determined to keep my distance. But we share an unexpected connection that could either make us or break us.

Damaged. Broken.

Words I never thought I would associate with myself.

Until The Controller got a hold of me.

Now I am a mere shell of the man I once was. The Controller’s insidious pull still a poison in my veins.

Not wanting my dreg brothers to see me this way, I hide out in a small cabin in the woods.

But the loneliness gets to me, and I crave a woman’s warm body and gentle touch.

Anyone will do.

Until my eyes clash with the gorgeous and sexy bartender at the Northern Pike.

And I’m hit with a startling truth: she’s just like me.

Can she be the one to heal me?

How am I to know she will bring the danger back into my life? Or that she will turn my world upside down?

But now it’s too late.

The Controller is back.

And this time, he’s not letting me go.

📚 Book Review: The Enforcer (The Dregs, #8)

Author: Leslie Georgeson
Genre: Military Romance / Genetically enhanced Super Soldiers

🦸🏻‍♂️ The Hero: Luke (a.k.a. The Enforcer)

Luke is one of The Dregs, a band of genetically altered soldiers whose childhoods were stolen by cruel experiments. Injected with strands of animal DNA, each boy developed a unique ability — Luke’s gift, or curse, is his extraordinary empathy. He can read thoughts and drown in the emotions of others, a skill twisted into a weapon by the General, who forced him to torture and interrogate until truth was wrung out of his victims. To survive, Luke built walls around his mind, shutting out not only strangers but even his closest brothers-in-arms. Haunted by what he was made to do, he has withdrawn into isolation, convinced that his presence is dangerous to those he loves.

🦸🏼‍♀️ The Heroine: River

River is also an empath, though her life has been marked by different scars. Once married to Marcus, a soldier who died in service, she now raises their son Andrew alone. But when Andrew is kidnapped in the dead of night, River is thrust into a nightmare: the ransom demand is not money, but murder. To save her child, she must kill a man. River’s resilience is remarkable — she lost part of her leg years ago in an accident, yet refuses to let her prosthetic slow her down. She runs a bar in a quiet Idaho town, armed with the skills her late husband taught her, but her heart remains steadfastly against violence. Now, with her son’s life hanging in the balance, she faces an impossible choice.

📚 The Plot

Four months earlier, Luke’s mind was hijacked by The Controller, a villain who can infiltrate thoughts and twist them into submission. Broken and mistrustful of himself, Luke has lived in seclusion after his fellow Dregs found love and built new lives in Idaho. Though he plans to open a mechanic’s shop with Ryan, loneliness gnaws at him, and one night he seeks distraction in a nearby bar. There he meets River — the woman behind the counter, whose quiet strength draws him in. What he doesn’t know is that River has just received her orders: her “target” matches Luke’s description perfectly. Their collision sets the stage for a tense, emotionally charged story where survival, trust, and love are constantly at war.

🌟 What Worked

• The bond between Luke and River is electric. Their shared empathic abilities create a connection that feels deeper than words, a raw intimacy neither has ever experienced.
• The Controller is a chilling antagonist. His ability to invade minds makes him not only powerful but terrifyingly insidious, a villain who lingers long after the page is turned.
• As the finale to The Dregs series, this book delivers. It ties threads together with emotional weight and gives fans a satisfying, powerful conclusion.

💔 What Fell Short

• Luke’s refusal to read River’s mind, even when he knows she’s hiding something, felt frustrating. While it speaks to his desire to respect her privacy, it also left me wishing he had acted sooner, sparing them both unnecessary pain.

💬 Final Thoughts

This installment is a gripping blend of action, emotional intensity, and moral dilemmas. Luke’s tortured past and River’s desperate fight for her son intertwine in a way that makes their love story both fragile and fierce. The empathic bond between them is not just a plot device — it’s the heart of the novel, showing how connection can heal even the deepest wounds. As a closing chapter to The Dregs, it’s one of the strongest entries, leaving readers with both closure and the lingering ache of saying goodbye to characters who feel like family.

Luke was broken when the controller got in his mind and messed with it so he stayed away from everyone. He didn’t want them to know how bad he was. The controller was River’s dad, he stole her son to try and make her kill Luke. But her and Luke got close and he told that the dregs would help her get her son back. River’s husband Marcus had been Luke’s friend before the general took them both, so he was working with controller and had faked his death. They finally caught the controller and Luke interrogated him and they get rid of him, and the FBI exonerated the dregs so bounty anymore. Andrew River’s son thought that Luke was his hero for saving him. Another great book by Leslie!!

Well ~ this is it! Now that Luke has met his match in River, I am so very sad that this ‘world’ is ending ~ I continue to simply be in awe of the different scenarios Ms Georgeson has managed to orchestrate as she guides the (8) Dregs out of their 'old' lives and into new ~ will there {gasp! PLEASE?!?!?} be a future visit to glimpse their ‘new lives’??? I’d love to see how the gym and the bounty hunters and all the kids grow up ~ I’d love to visit them all! A final THANK YOU and KUDOS to Ms Georgeson for creating this amazing DregWorld!

I loved this series of books… I loved the guys of course, drool worthy imaginary yum-Yums. I really don’t know who was my favorite character personality but all books are well worth the read…
I enjoyed the origina lity of the Dregs and the story behind their training and was furious with the abuses they endured.
I had a hard time putting each of the stories down I spent most of the week on many short sleep nights… but well worth it.

The Enforcer

Luke has hiding from everyone because he is embarrassed about breaking down while being tortured by the Controller. River's 6 year old son has been kidnapped and to get him back she has to complete a mission. She is not a soldier she owns a bar and doesn't know how she can complete a mission with no training.

Luke is one of the dreg. He's known as the enforcer. He's turned into an empath by the Company when he was sixteen. The dregs escape and fight to stay alive. Luke gets captured by the Controller who tries to control him to do what he wants. He run from the dregs to keep them safe while he hides from the Controller. He meets River a bartender with secrets. She might be his salvation but the Controller finds out where he is and is coming for him. I really enjoyed this book.

I just finished The Enforcer. It was such a great addition to the series. It was Luke and Rains story. It is the eighth book in this series. You can read it as a stand alone but it will make so much more sense if you read them in order. Luke is hiding from himself and from others, from his brothers and their families. Being an empath and broken is to much. He meets Rain shocked she is an empath too. The Controller kidnapped her son making her do things she did not want to do. Rain and Luke have a connection that is strong. Can they both destroy the controller, get her son back, bring Luke back to the living and find their happiness together? This is well written, interesting and such a great storyline. The characters are wonderful. I fell in love with this series it pulls you in makes you see and feel what is happening. It is full of strong alpha males and kick a** female characters. Strong bonds and family love. I recommend this to all. Leslie Georgeson is such a good writer she has several other series I recommend them too. Thank you Leslie for being such a chameleon and doing such a good job with different genres.

This is book eight and the final one in The Dregs series. This is Luke and River's story and they also pull all the strings together and tie them up into a big neat red bow for the series. All the dregs have moved to Idaho and have adapted to what most view as a 'regular' life. Luke is struggling and feels that a simple one night stand to break up the loneliness is in order. But he learns that the person you pick can turn things upside down, in this case, worse than what they are. Another story full of twists and a few turns to keep it exciting and smooth. As I mentioned earlier it's the last book in the series and makes a really good conclusion. Enjoy!

The Enforcer is the eighth and final book in The Dregs series and is a great conclusion to this series.

Luke and River are amazing characters, both empaths that belong together if he will allow it. The storyline is well written and kept me on the edge of my seat as The Controller came back to try to bring Luke back into his fold. There is drama, danger, suspense, the Dreg family, and a chance for romance.

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
