Abba: Revealing God’s Personhood, Parenting & Purpose

Rate this book
In writing this book, I have attempted to introduce you to God as Father; to experience His personhood. In revealing God as Father, the Bible uses many descriptive words that relate to our own physical existence. Words like hand, eyes, voice, ears, etc., helps us relate to Him, but does not define Him. For some, the idea of God the Father creates an image of an old, bearded man sitting on a cloud in Heaven. At least this is the image that Leonardo da Vinci conveyed in painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. This is man’s feeble attempt at seeing God in our own image. But, we need
to make it clear, God is not physical; He is Spirit.

God is Father, but not human. Maleness in the human body, refers to sexual organs and biological reproduction. God is Spirit. In Genesis 1:27, it “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Mankind’s male and femaleness comes from God for the purpose of filling the earth and enjoyment of intimacy with one’s spouse. Our physical bodies, as is marriage, are for this earth, not for Heaven (Matthew 22:30). To understand Fatherhood, we must look beyond the physical and into His self-revelation as found in the Scriptures. It is from this revelation that fatherhood can be replicated in the lives of fathers and families here on the earth.

The idea of father, for so many, has been tainted by their own experience with their earthly fathers. Everyone has a biological father, but not everyone has been fathered in a godly way. This is a sad reflection on the current state of our world, yet it is where many are living. To come into an intimate relationship with God as Father, we must tear down many preconceived notions and set aside the hurts of the past to allow the Spirit to reveal Himself to us. To approach the Father without the filters of negative experiences is a gift of grace. It comes from a revelation that God is Love. John wrote that anyone who does not love does not know God (1 John 4:7). So, if the word father brings to the surface memories of abuse, abandonment, and rejection, you need to separate it from who God is. As Father, He will heal you and bring you into your inheritance as His beloved child.

In this book, I will explain God’s Personhood, His Parenting and His Purpose. Much time will be spent on our development into intimacy, seeing that we have been adopted into His family. Being adopted implies that we bring into our relationship a lot of soulish baggage. We are children legally, a new creation legally, yet growing into this reality as we are progressively
being transformed into our sonship, by conforming to the image of His Son, Jesus. First, we grow down, into childlikeness, and then we grow up into Christlikeness. This transformation carries with it growth pains as we learn to “let go” of our own will and ways, as well as the relief and joy in finally coming home to our safe place in the arms of Abba Father.
