A delicious enemies-to-lovers romance with angst that you can't resist!
Some wishes come true, some become toxicSome wishes come true, some become toxic
We met on the verge of losing our lives. Somehow, the tattered strings of our tragedies tangled into an unlikely bond. All the stars were aligned, or maybe it was the breaking point of our addictions that brought us together. It was our love for music that solidified our bond, and he became my best friend. We had the same birthday. 11-11. We made wishes to each other that felt more like promises. The biggest one of all was to get married to each other by the age of 22 if we both weren't already. Then tragedy struck, and I was forced to deal with the consequences.
Five years later, I’m back in my hometown, where the pain feels just as familiar as the memories. When I find myself caught in the middle of my parents' failing marriage, I’m willing to do anything to stay away from them.
When my friend comes up with a solution, it all seems too good to be true. But my long-life wish quickly becomes my nightmare when I’m forced to live with the landlord, who also happens to be the quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals.
I despise football players.
But that’s not the worst part... He’s also my dead best friend's older brother.
OK ladies and gentlemen you need to buckle up for this one……. To me this is basically Abigail Asher story, and Blake and Cole were just part of the journey, but then of course this is just my opinion
Abigail’s first leg of the journey started on hers and Blake 16th birthday in a hospital room , they both shared together…. This is where she met her new best friend Blake
Abigail’s second leg of her journey was 4 years after she left for college ,but than she returns home for the summer, and she met the sexy quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals and her best friends older brother Colt Killian and his adorable son Brody
In between the years that had passed since that first meet between Blake and Abigail there were so many emotions that clogged my mind as I read this sad but sweet story..... here are just a handful of emotions that I felt reading this Sweet but tragic Love story there was anger, heartbreak , sorrow, lost , gain , growth …… there were those what the heck moments as well
I did wonder at times how in the heck could somebody do that to another person but then of course the crazy world we live in answer that question for me
I could tell you all about all the different characters in this book that I despise with all my heart but the list would probably be too long then there are the handful of the characters I just love to Peaches. But the one who I love the most was Brody ….. I know he is the 6 year old little boy who stole my heart from basically the beginning of his appearance in this book

Toxic Wishes is the first book in The Killian Brothers series. Although it was not an easy read, it is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking stories I have encountered. The fast-paced narrative keeps readers engaged with themes of love—especially self-love—intrigue, loss, forgiveness, and friendship. The author's heartfelt and touching writing style creates a bittersweet and captivating tale. It is a compelling, gripping, and raw wild ride that I enjoyed from beginning to end. The story is filled with heart, emotion, unique situations, and jaded, relatable characters.
I don't want to reveal too much because readers should experience this story on their own. The narrative revolves around a deep bond formed between two individuals who met during a difficult time in their lives. Their shared love for music and the fact that they share the same birthday strengthened their friendship, leading to a promise to marry by the age of 22 if neither of them was already married. However, Abigail was left to face the aftermath alone. Five years later, Abigail returns to her hometown, grappling with her parents' troubled marriage and seeking an escape. A friend's suggestion to live with a landlord seems ideal until she discovers that he is not only a football player, whom she dislikes, but also her best friend's older brother, Colt. Both Colt and Abigail are flawed and complex characters. The book explores their intense passion and the challenges they face in being together. The build-up of their relationship is perfectly written, as are their intriguing dynamics, witty banter, and humor. There is something about their attraction and connection that feels real, touching, and honest. Colt and Abigail's emotional story hits the reader straight in the heart, wrecking them in the best possible way, and then slowly piecing them back together. Seeing them thrive and heal together is beautiful.
This books deserves the 5 stars because I love the tropes and the topics she used. The girl is having an eating disorder so yeah. For this book I shed so many tears,I loved it so much and I am waiting for the next book. The way she described the actions is so good, like she's a pro at this so you should really read her boom, you won't regret it
Toxic Wishes by Nadia Braeckel is the kind of book that grips you by the heart and doesn’t let go. It’s a beautifully intense story that feels like an elephant sitting on your chest—heavy, emotional, and deeply affecting, yet it offers just enough glimpses of hope to keep you turning the pages.
Abigail, the main character, is someone you can’t help but root for as she navigates the pain and challenges life throws her way. Braeckel has crafted a story where Abigail goes through the wringer, and as a reader, you feel every bit of her struggle right alongside. It is my first book by Braekel but the compassionate storytelling makes Abigail’s journey incredibly relatable,.
What makes Toxic Wishes truly special is the delicate balance between heartbreak, angst, tension and hope. Just when it feels like everything is falling apart, Braeckel offers a sliver of light, a moment of connection, or a small victory that keeps both Abigail, Colt and you as the reader going. It’s this blend of raw emotion and resilience that makes the story so powerful and memorable.
The relationship at the heart beyween Colt and Abigail is one you can’t help but cheer for, even when the odds seem stacked against them. Braeckel writes with such empathy and understanding that you find yourself deeply invested in the outcome, hoping for the best despite the overwhelming challenges the characters face. And Bodie?! That's my MVP!😅🫣
In short, Toxic Wishes is a heartbreakingly beautiful read that will leave you emotionally spent but satisfied. It’s a story of pain, endurance, and the small sparks of hope that keep us going, even in the darkest times.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving the ARC didn't affect my opinion of the book.
-NFL Playing Single Dad -Forced Proximity -Opposites Attract -Multi POV -Enemies to Lovers
This was pretty good. Abigail is such a strong woman. She pushed through everything and made it out alive and well. Colt had his own issues that he dealt with but he was always there for her. Together they’re super cute. The writing style was really good. Something different. The twists and turns through me around. Definitely recommend.
This read by Nadia was my first of hers and she didn't disappoint!
The story starts out with Abigail in high school meeting Blake while they are both in the hospital. They developed a connection which turns into a beautiful friendship throughout the rest of school. Blake and Abigail couldn't be more opposite in regard to their friend group, but their love of music made them closer. Abigail finds comfort in learning astrology and fills Blake in on their birthday and the time 11:11 so they start sharing wishes with each other daily but neither of them shares the wish that they secretly want each other. Abigail lacks confidence and finds herself thinking Blake doesn't like her past a friendship when he does.
As time goes on tragedy strikes and Abigail finds herself going to college and trying to make her way supporting herself without getting help from her terrible family who has never treated her well. She ends up needing a place to stay to save up and finish her degree when Blake's older brother Colt comes into the picture. He offers her a place to stay and even through Abigail hates to take anything from anyone else she agrees. As Colt and Abigail manage living in Colt's rental house together, they go from hate to love, and you can't help but root these two on.
Toxic Wishes will have you going through all the emotions with this roller coaster of a book! At one point I had my mouth on the floor because I couldn't believe what I just read and had to do a re-read. I am giving this book four stars because I wish there was a chapter on Abigail between high school and college showing that time period vs just jumping into college life. The conversations between some of the characters at times were hard to follow as far as who said what but overall, this book was great!
Check trigger warnings before reading as it covers eating disorders, substance abuse and r*pe (just mentioned from the past, no detail)
Just finished Toxic Wishes by Nadia Braeckel. it follows a girl in high school who has an eating disorder. Who while at the hospital meets a teen who is an addict. They become best friends to slowly start moving into a romance. But when the worst thing to happens happened, she leaves town. Until she is forced to come back to her home town where it’s full of her trauma and the memories of her past. I loved this book. I literally cried during the letter but this book is so well written, I laughed at some of the banter, I teared up at parts I had the butterflies during the sweet parts. And the spice! So good!! I cannot wait for the next book.
I liked this book. She's a new to me author. This is Abigail's story & it wasn't an easy read. She's been through a lot of trauma, she meets a friend then tragedy strikes. This book is about her strength, her fortitude in the face of so much tragedy. She's truly been through a lot. A lot of secrets come out here. Please keep in mind, this isn't an easy book to read, this book deals with a lot of real-life situations. I love her & Colt together, but they had to go through a lot to get their HEA. This is also a really long book, so keep that in mind as well. Recommend this book & author.
Abigail and Colt What an emotional journey this book took me on! I felt so many different things. Filled with secrets, heartache, betrayal, but also healing and love. This story will make you feel and fall in love with both Abigail and Colt. They were always meant to be. While the road to get their happy ending was not smooth. They do finally get it!! Overall, I think this was an emotional and beautiful read.
Omgoodness, this was a thick book for sure, and I read it in 2 days. Abigail had such a hard home life and ended up with an eating disorder and went to the hospital where she met blake, who is there because he has drug issues. Abigail is into astrology. And Blake is into music. However, when Abigail find out, they share they share birthday which is Nov 11th. 11:11, she tells Blake about the wishes. And they become bestie and make wishes every day at 11:11. Then, round charter 8 or 9 Nadia broke my heart and Abigail. Then we go to 4 year later when Abigail come home to her mother and father fighting all the time, and she end up finding out why they treated her the way she did. She also learns that the house she is staying out of is her bestie, Blake, older brother house. Colt and Abigail have to deal with the loss of Blake, but some how end find each other in the middle and fall in love by the end of the book. My broken heart is whole.

Toxic Wishes is a dark romance, it contains some heavy topics and scenes so I recommend checking the TW/CW before diving in. The story follows Abigail who meets Blake in hospital, both are in low points of their lives, they develop a connection which turns into a beautiful friendship. The story then jumps to Abigail going to college where she meets Colt.
Wow, this book was an emotional roller coaster, it seriously pulled on heartstrings and hugging a box of tissues. I really don’t want to say too much as I really think this book should be experienced. Nadia did a fantastic job with the characters and plot, you really feel the emotions and struggles of the characters, which I loved. The story really dives into a journey of betrayal, friendship, loss and self love. It really was beautiful written and I definitely recommend.
I absolutely loved this book. I was rooting for Abigail and Blake, mainly because I just wanted to see two people who were such a mess make it together. I was not prepared for the twist in the story, but I was not mad at it at all. I cried, was heartbroken, and somehow made it through the book. I laughed at all the banter between Abigail and several of the characters, my mouth dropped at several parts because I just could not imagine the scene (the drunk text), and I cried at 11:11 and the significance it had throughout the whole book. This was my first time reading from this author, and I can say with certainty that it won't be my last.
I don’t even know where to start. This book had me in all of my feelings. From how Abigail meets her best friend is tragic for both situations in their lives. Some romance blossoms and they make a pact, but he doesn’t follow through. Abigail leaves town, only to have to come back some years later to deal with her family drama. This is where she meets Colt and their story is emotional for sure there is heartache angst lies secrets but there’s also love real genuine love. Don’t let me leave out the spice. It is on point. This book has real life struggles so please check or trigger warnings. Roller coaster for sure but beautifully written highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Oh Brody, you stole my heart and wouldn’t give it back. What an adorable character and the perfect kid to help bring together our main characters for their well deserved HEA. This book had me on a rollercoaster of emotions from the get go, with unexpected twists and turns along the way. Please check your triggers before going into this as it covers some sensitive topics, but it does it so well.
I hadn’t read anything by Nadia before this and I’m now very much a convert to her writing style.
DNF at 8%. This book sounded like it had good potential but it DESPERATELY needs to be run through a thousand rounds of editing. Sooooo many errors, both grammatical and punctuation. Also not a fan of how everything seemed over explained and yet somehow not explained enough.
Update- I ended up trying to read this again after I slept on it and because I’m stubborn and hate not finishing books. It didn’t get better. In addition to the above, dialogues were hard to follow, and it seemed like whole sentences were cut and pasted from a different part of the book entirely. Characters names would just change randomly and carelessly, and I felt no connection or chemistry between them. There just needed to be MORE to build the relationships.
Struggling to find the words to describe this rollercoaster of a story, you follow Abigail’s journey on self love, grief, heartbreak and betrayal. It pulls at every heartstring, with relatable moments for the readers to connect with the characters, you will feel all the emotions 🩶
Toxic Wishes is the first book of the year that has completely shattered my soul and put me back together, only to have me bawling for another 30 pages or more. I want to say this book is a beautifully written, emotional roller-coaster, but that would truly be an understatement and an injustice to the author. Because there are absolutely no words to describe this novel and how it made me feel without you picking it up and experiencing it for yourself. Yes, you will cry both happy and sad tears. You may even ugly cry like I did. But you will also feel the emotional angst two of the main characters go through. You will feel the trauma of the characters as if it were your own. You will feel their pain, devotion, and their love. You will cheer for them, cry for them, and be happy for them. This book truly makes you feel every emotion humanly possible, and I highly recommend it.
Just started this and I'm finding waaaay too many mistakes such as words being hyphenated, misspellings and incorrect words being used. Now this may not be an error but I personally prefer using “Yeah” over “Ya.” I’m not Swedish and I don’t think the characters are either. Even so, the story itself is compelling enough that I’m going to keep reading it. Both Abigail and Blake are damaged due to their upbringings.
The reader gets a pretty good idea of their tumultuous emotions. Other times it seems that a situation just appears from out of the blue.
All the below are Blake: Chapter 1 “Let’s see, my mom is dead.” Chapter 2 “I don’t have a mom. She died when I was eight.” “I, on the other hand, have been dragged all over the place with my mom.” Chapter 3 “It’s bad enough my mom didn’t want to have anything to do with me...”
I get conflicting views about Blake’s mom. I don’t doubt that she died when he was eight but then he says she didn’t want to have anything to do with him. I assume she got custody during a divorce. Do we know how old he was at that time? Being dragged around with her sounds a lot more recent than having spent the last eight years living with his father.
Plot changes could be explained better. Blake wants Abigail in the band then suddenly she’s out and there’s never a reason given. What caused Blake’s death?* Did she attend his funeral? The story just skips ahead four or five years with no answers.
Okay, I’m giving a lot of misspellings, misuse of words and questionable plot twists a pass but this one was too blatant to not make note of:
Chapter 23 When I walked in on him with Heidi, he was fully clothed so I left the rest to my imagination...
So I’m thinking, hmm, that doesn’t sound right. I went back to check, and sure enough:
Chapter 16 He slipped out, tossed the condom in the trash like it was just another piece of garbage,** and pulled his boxers up. ...By the time she turned, Colt was already dressed.
I don’t think I’m wrong in believing that Abigail saw Colt buck naked.
Why are Abigail’s cousins stuck in high school mean girl personalities? They’re in their mid to late twenties, FFS.
Mel, short for Melanie, was named after Donald Trump’s wife. I hate to be the one to point this out but her name is Melania.
Other then the obvious editing errors there were two plot points that I found hard to swallow. There’s no way the mean cousin could/would withhold information that would devastate Abigail, especially once she and Colt started hooking up. The other is Colt’s totally unresonable guilt concerning Abigail. Yeah, she and his half brother had been kinda/sorta high school sweethearts but Blake is dead! It's not like he was around to have his feelings hurt and odds are he won’t come back to haunt them.
Overall I really liked this and the way the characters were presented. Not just Abigail, Blake and Colt but the supporting cast had believable personalities. This is probably the only book I’ve ever finished that had so many errors that I didn’t set it aside and dnf. All the author needs is a good editor or at least a proof reader for me to give this 5 stars.
*Eventually revealed **I don’t know about you but I consider used condoms "garbage.” She makes it sound like an insult to used condoms everywhere.
“She was toxic to my soul, but in a way that could be considered my antidote.”
OMG!! My heart never hurt so much as it did while reading this incredible story.
This was a heavy story that was filled with so much emotional turmoil, angst, heartbreak and unbearable pain and anger. My heart was instantly in a chokehold and it was being squeezed and squeezed until there was nothing left.
Abigail is such an incredible young woman. What she has had to endure with the constant self loathing, hatred and bullying while growing up would make anyone’s mental state be on shaky grounds. What I love about her is that she has such a fierce and strong determination to survive that she pushes through the toxicity and hate and survives every gut-wrenching moment of it, coming out stronger than ever.
Blake is young man with so much pain and demons in his life. But the incredible bond that he forges with Abigail transcends space and time and will forever keep them connected no matter where they are.
Colt has many demons in his life too and is used to just running away from them. But when a spirited young woman comes into his life, everything he though he knew gets turned upside down.
The intense passion and chemistry that Abigail and Colt have instantly just oozed off the pages. But there were so many heartbreaking and painful challenges in front of both of them before they could ever open up their hearts to love.
The banter was perfect and the spice was incredible.
The writing was brilliant, gripping, raw and just beautiful in its poignancy. Every word was heartfelt and written with such passion. I felt each and every emotion that the author was trying to convey. I laughed a whole lot, I cried a hell of a lot more, and I fell hopelessly in love with Abigail and Colt. These two have dug themselves a place deep in my heart and I never want to let them go.
Nadia, did you really have to make a girl ugly cry 😭. Triggers check is an absolute must as this book starts off quite heavy. It's a book of 2 halves and I was not prepared for the emotional heartbreak. First half is about Abigail and Blake when they were 15/16 yrs old. They both meet at the lowest point of their lives. She is in for her anorexia and he is an addict. My heart hurt for Blake, so much loss and neglect that his demons were beyond saving. Abigail is an introvert with no friends and confused why her family despise her so much. Which has led her to her condition, she is constantly told she is ugly amongst a family of good looks. Second half is about Abigail and Colt (Blake's older half brother). This was 4 yrs later. She despised him and they started of as enemies. They're chemistry was fire but she doesn't think she is pretty enough for him. I really disliked her superficial cousins and family. This was very emotional and the battles both Abigail and Cot fought was hard. But I loved how their relationship built up. Absolutely adored Bodie, Colt's son. Colt did annoy me at times, purely because of how he managed Naiomi his ex and Abigail's evil cousin. He could have handled it better and it made him look weak. Also because of the way he hurt Abigail. I understood that part but still. I do think Abigail needed that as it made her so strong. They both still struggled with their issues but we're working together in healing. He was an amazing dad though and when he was with her it was swoon worthy. The spice was wow. I loved it. This book broke me, healed me and made me fall in love. If you don't have triggers, definitely give it a go as it really was a wonderful story.
"I can’t believe I found her, my dream girl. She was never supposed to be mine, but I can’t imagine her being with anyone else now."
“My brother got all your wishes, but I want all your kisses. Now, and forever more, Abigail Asher."
Ok so it’s just about 4 am in the morning and I just finished reading Toxic Wiishes . One of the most beautiful and heartbreaking love stories I’ve read all summer . A journey about self love , loss , friendships . Betrayal and second chances . Abigail and Colt OMG how these two touched my heart in ways I was not even prepared for . Two people who have suffered through a terrible tragedy and are brought together in the most unexpected of ways . Could it be that fate had a plan all along and they were meant to be together? There are no words just no perfect words that could possibly do this epic love story enough justice . You simply need to read it for yourself. What I can say is that I I was wrecked in all the best ways , there were so many moments I found myself utterly speechless, others I was yelling outta pure frustration, I smiled , I laughed, I sobbed like a baby , and I rooted so freaking hard the whole way through. I cannot really put into words what it was but the connection I felt to both Colt and Abigail was like non other I’ve felt in a really long time. . Almost like a moth to flame . They literally grabbed onto my heart so tightly and refused to let go . The angst , the humor , the witty banter , the love ,the loss the passion , the second chances , the off the charts chemistry, the dark , raw and gritty moments, the secrets , the drama , the obstacles, the struggles, the family and friendships. I really was just taken on the ride ot my life and completely blown away , prepare yourself for all the feels , prepare yourself for the unexpected, prepare yourself for a very long night of reading because once you start I can guarantee there is absolutely no way you’ll be getting much sleep 💜💜💜💜💜💜
I think I stayed mad during this entire book. Let’s start off with how this book needed to be edited. There were so many grammar and spelling errors, oh and chapters that were listed under the wrong character.
The book it’s self. The FMC (Abigail) was honestly annoying the entire book. I am aware and familiar of eating disorders and her reactions are normal for her. But it became so repetitive the entire book. I also got extremely tired of how negatively she viewed her self. She showed no character growth. The first MMC (Blake) was an accurate description of someone doing drugs however how he acted and treated Abigail and she just allowed it was just a big NO from me. The fact that she was head over heels for him didn’t make sense. He was garbage. Then we get to our second MMC (Colt), I’ll be honest I don’t know that I have ever disliked a MMC more than in this book. The lack of respect that he has for Abigail is insane. The OW drama, the mix of emotions, the rash decisions. The fact that he allowed everything to happen.
There was no groveling and there should have been some damn good groveling after what she was put through. The families minus Nora and Josh were horrible and cruel.
So I will say the book was a good book if the goal was to piss you off. I could have really liked the plot line but him not cutting things with Naomi or standing up for Abigail makes him a sack of shit to me.

Abagail meets Blake while they were both in the hospital for their addictions. They went to the same school, but never interacted until now. They started to hangout with each other until fate had other plans. She leaves town and doesn't return until she graduates from college. She has no choice but to return to a family that always treated her differently especially her mom. She tries going home but can't stand to be there. One of her friends says she could stay at his brother's lake house. Unknown to her she's staying with Blake's older half brother, Colt that she didn't know. She finds out that her new friend is also Blake and Colt's half brother. She doesn't want to stay there because she doesn't like football players and he's in the NFL. Colt gets her to stay there. He didn't know she knew Blake and they start to talk about him, but it's hard for her to open up. During her summer there things progress between them, but Colt goes from hot to cold on her. He feels that he's betraying his little brother even though they were just friends. This poor girl has so much pain and heartache in her life. Not to mention the trauma. Even thru all my tears and swollen eyes I had a hard time putting myself his book down. I'm hoping that there will be more books with her friends.

You had Abigail and Colt, two troubled individuals who have a strong connection while dealing with addiction. Seeing these two go through so much and still have such a connection that is touching, strong, and so honest. Seeing them come out in the end was everything and I loved seeing their healing journey. Such an amazing reach and I would recommend this!
An emotional rollercoaster, raw, and intense story between two individuals more damaged than you can believe.
I was captivated with this story because of the complexed narrative of the story, the things these characters had in common and what they went through, the struggles, the withdrawn stages of their lives. These individuals went through a lot in the time they knew each other but they worked well together, they understood each other and found solace in each other.
I fell in love with the characters, the way my eyes would fill with water at reading the raw parts of the story and also brought a smile to my face when happy events occurred as well.
I highly recommend if you can handle strong themes and heavy triggers. Please read them before reading. I absolutely loved it as I can handle just about anything and the fact that this book had events that people go through in real life made it even more believable.
first want to start off by saying absolutely read the trigger warnings am sure some of them will hit home for people. Once you start reading this book make sure you have tissues handy. This book absolutely blow me away, I didn't want to put it down. The author had me on a emotional roller-coaster throughout the book. The characters are well written and very relatable. Am a firm believer everything happens for a reason but man some of the blows Abigail recieved was heartbreaking. Colt at first I wasn't sure if I was going to like him but man did he step up. I don't want to give to much more away you have to read this book.
This was truly a lovely story. Unfortunately, there were a few cons for me - the H didn't feel very protective of the h, he walked away from her a lot, that's not going to be great for the future especially when things get hard for him. Their conversations lacked a bit of depth too. I just think more needed to happen towards the end? It felt rushed. Besides that, I did appreciate that the h didn't just get over her eating disorder.
@Author - please get an editor, the spelling and grammar mistakes were really annoying, some instances I had to even guess what the words could be.
